I'm running a Cisco E4200V2 router with the latest firmware (2.1.4.12284) on an iMac running OS X 10.8. My ISP is providing 15Mbps to my modem, which I've confirmed by connecting directly to it without the router. Once I put the router back in the path, my broadband speed drops to about 6 Mbps. Is this the best I can expect from this router?
View 2 RepliesI purchased a new router - cisco e1000. Currently, i have 2 laptops wirelessly connected to this router. When i do a broadband speed test, the speed drops down significantly to 8MBPS while if i connect it to the cable modem directly (wired) i.e., without router, i'm getting 15 MBPS download speed. I did a couple of times this speed check and the results are same. I tried changing the advanced settings in the router (which was specified in one of the post in this forum) but no luck. Is it that i need to buy e4200 to match the wired speed of 15 MBPS or what other things I can do to get the same speed of my cable modem (provided by my ISP)?

I have Hotwire fiber service and the plan is supposed to provide 20 megabit downlink speeds.
I just bought a Linksys/Cisco E4200 to replace an old Dell TrueMobile 2300 from 2004. With that router I got the full advertised downlink speed.
Now, when I run a speed test with the E4200 in place, the downlink speed is only 5168 kbps or so. Watching the speed test meters, I see the data arriving in bursts, every few seconds a whole lot of it gets through, then for a second or two nothing. It's pretty regular.
But, if I run a speed test with the ONT cable plugged right into a laptop, I see 19001 kbps - close enough to 20. This is the same cable that plugs into the back of the router.
With E4200 in place Direct into laptop what I can check or configure in the E4200 to change this behavior?
I recently installed an E4200 router/AP and, on one desktop, an AE2500 USB Adapter. All the other devices on the LAN work fine and the laptops, even show improved tranfer rates. The desktop, with the AE2500, shows good or very good signal strength, but the speed is down around 5.5 Mbps. Running a full backup of the HDD proves the slow speed.

I am currently getting a miserly 54 mbs wireless and 100 mbs on the wire (connected with cat6 all the way)... Anything I should try to get close to advertized speeds?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just ran some speedtests om my PC on the advice of my isp to see if my Linksys WRT54G router might be bad. As a result, I found that the router might not be entirely bad, but it might not be entirely good, either. I got .77 Mbps dowload and .17 Mbps upload on the first speedtest. I got .43 Mbps download on the second speedtest and the speed test hung hear the end. When I connected an IMac to the cable modem with an ethernet cable, the IMac ran strong. So the tech thought I should get a new router.
But wait a minute, isn't there a network adapter in the PC that the router talks to? Might the adapter be the problem, not the router? So I speedtested the wireless network to the IMac. That speedtest was fine, tiptop, like the ethernet direct connection test noted above. Did that tell me that the problem is in my PC network adapter, not the router? Then, I retested (speedtested) the connection on the PC and it was fine...excellent. Good up and down speeds, no hangs.Then, I checked the PC adapter (a Belkin). I saw three adapters on Device Manager, including the Belkin. I downloaded new drivers for the adapters (except for the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Minipoty Adapter - because it got a warning that the download software wasn't signed and might harm my computer).
I bought a Linksy E4200 yesterday and set it up fine, but I only seem to be able to get 130 Mbps on my Wi-Fi. I looked through these threads and tried disabling the 2.4Ghz band and it still remains at 130Mbps. There was no change, also read I can try set up a secondary SSID. I really don't know much about routers or configuring them

I had good performance with the E1000, and I only upgraded to the E1200 because it was on sale.My only complaint with the E1200 is the slower download speed on my desktop PC that is connected directly to the router. My normal download speed on the desktop PC was 25 Mbps with the E1000 model. After I disabled the WMM on the E1200 as others suggested, the download speed on the desktop machine immediately increased from 5 Mbps up to 15 Mbps. Any other suggestions to get the download speed up to 25 Mbps before I switch back to my E1000? The E1200 router is connected to my Arris TM602G modem. Both modem and router were reset during the installation process. I setup parental controls for a couple of iPods and configured Open DNS, but other than that, the router is using default settings. All wireless devices in the house seem to be performing fine with the E1200.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've recently subscribed to a 100Mbps fibre broadband service with the bundled Huawei EchoLife HG8240 ONT modem and speed-tested it with an achievable speed of almost 100Mbps (uplink and downlink) on my desktop PC.However, when I connect my new Cisco Linksys E1200 Wireless-N Router to it, I noticed the speed dropped by almost half (about 50Mbps both ways) when I conduct a similar speedtest .
note that I'm using wired cable and there's only 1 single PC connected to it and it is not shared. This includes upgrading the firmware to the latest version, disabling the IPV6 setting and configuring QOS.My current hardware/ firmware version is as follows:

I just bought a refurbished E2000 wireless-n router with 1 Gb LAN ports (from Cisco online).This router is meant to replace my Netgear wireless-n router that only have 100 Mb LAN ports.I have 10 devices in my home network, 6 of them are using wireless (1 'g' and 5 'n') and 4 are interconnected with cat5e cables (trough the router).The devices have some different operating systems and their network adapters are from different brands.When I set up the Netgear router I didn't have to adjust anything for the wireless network to work fine.All wireless-n devices worked at 150 Mbps (sometimes going down shortly to 130 Mbps).The wireless-g device worked at 54 Mbps.For the last 2 days I've been trying to set up the E2000 to achieve a wireless-n speed higher then 72 Mpbs... without success.I tried all the suggestions that I found in the Cisco Knowledge Base.
- Upgrading the firmware to the latest version
- Trying different channels and channel widths
- Different wireless security methods and many others.
Also trying different settings on the different devices doesn't work.Changing the distance between router and devices as well as changing the location of the router don't affect the results.Switching on only 1 device at a time doesn't change anything either.It looks like the E2000 is set to not transmit on a higher speed than 72 Mbps, when it's actually supposed to achieve a wireless-n speed of up to 300 Mbps. I would be lucky if I get the half of it, but not if it's only one fourth.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy E4200 seems to be dropping connections throughout the day. For wireless it'll still show full signal and connection, but there will be no internet activity for about a minute. Then after a minute things will work just fine again. For wired I notice it in my XBox mainly when I get dropped from games as constant as the wireless drops.I believe my modem isn't the problem since the old router never dropped connections on the hard wired devices. Occasionally my old D-Link router would drop wireless, but never this frequent,I am running 1.0.02. I've rebooted the router/modem several times. I even reinstalled the entire setup with the current version of Cisco Connect as the tech person suggested, but still no luck. The first week or so using this router was flawless, but ever since then it's been dropping connections several times throughout the day to any device connected (wireless or wired). The problem seems that the router just hiccups the connection very quickly, so quickly that Windows doesn't even recognize the connection has been lost, but long enough to drop a multiplayer game on XBox or to have me mashing refresh on my internet browsers.

I am constantly getting dropped and timeouts accross all of my devices this has been hapening for several months now I think ever since I upgraded to 1.0.04
It says no internet access when the wired computers have it fine. Android phones, windows 7 pc, and chromebook.
We recently purchased a Linksys E3200 router, because our old router didn't take advantage of our internet speed. The router works fine, though the internet speeds again isn't as much as expected.
With a wired connection, we only get 80 Mbit/s of our full 120 Mbit/s, according to Speedtest.net. The Cisco Connect built-in speed test is even worse; only 40 Mbit/s. When we directly plug the computer into the modem, we get the full 120 Mbit/s, which indicates that the modem does have the connection speed. The router just doesn't give it to the computers attached.
I don't know about my wireless speed, as my wireless card in the laptop clearly is the bottleneck (it can only connect at 65 Mbit/s). Atheros AR9285 ftw.
We tried different cables, the one included with the router gives the same speed.
Got a Linksys E3200, and a gigabit card, even two, Realtec and Intel, have a connection ggbit. If the power cord plug directly into netcard, all at great, the tracker up to 80 MB per second, shakes on speedtest.net, shows 780 240 + Mbps. When i connect my inet through the router, the speed drops to 12 MB(100 Mbit) and speedtest the same, but in the the web interface in the statistics shows that everything is connected to a gigabit.
Plus, when I ping my ISP's website (ip -t ) and assume [URL] click on the test, the router with 1ms pings are beginning to rise to 30 ms, and when it is directly in netcard, it stable 1ms.... When through the router, torrent shake it just do up to 100ms jumps. I have all the settings , and set up his hands, and a manager, all for nothing. It started five days ago, before that everything was ok. Can a router burn? Rather it gigabit controller?
I have a brand new E4200 with two desktop computers using it with no problems. I also have a work Thinkpad laptop that I use a couple of times a week from home. Since day one of installing the new router, I have experienced the blue screen of death numerous times during the day (the number of times varies from 1 to 6 on a really bad day). I believe this is happening when I lose my connection to the router. I can see it trying to reestablish itself but the VPN will drop the connrection before it has a chance. I never lost my VPN connection until the day I installed the new router. Yesterday, at least one time it was unable to reestablish connectivity with the router and I had to reboot the laptop to get it connected. Could this have something to do with the IP address? I do not have any issues with the laptop when I am at work using a docking station.
So, I am wondering why I am constantly losing connectivity on the laptop only. The laptop has Windows XP and I am using AT&T Global Network Client to access the work network. Is there a setting somewhere that will fix this? Our IT folks rebuilt my laptop and I am still experiencing the same problem. I checked and I have the current version of the firmware for the router.
When we stream movies in two different rooms at the same time we drop our netflix or vudu connections. Can I enable or disable any settings on my router that would work. I love this router have 35 Mbps on internet speed so I don't think that is the problem. Range runs from 35 up to 45 Mbps all the time. I know how to access my router settings and navigate where to go and what to change if I can. I have 3 laptops, 1 wireless printer, two blue-ray devices attached.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically I use the WDTV to stream movies from my PC and external harddrive (which is plugged straight into the router) to my TV. The WDTV has a "Network Shares" section and my PC and harddrive usually appear here.
The only way I can get them to show is to reboot the router each time I want to use the WDTV player.
Is there a setting on the router which I need to enable/disable which will prevent the network shares drop?
2 days ago my e1000 died, so I went big and bought the e4200 (due to newness, its already loaded with Firmware 1.0.03 build 14) to aleviate my networking woes. I'm running into an issue where I'm utilizing both the 2.4Ghz bands and the 5Ghz band. My desktop as an AE1000, and I'm utilizing that on the 5Ghz band. Everything else in the house (Dell laptop, 2x iPhone 4 and an HP printer) are all connecting to the network wirelessly.
I have had 0 network issues with regards to my wired connections, or my 5Ghz connection. But my 2.4Ghz connection will continuously be unavailable. I have both bands set to brodcast, they have different names so my AE1000 can connect via 5Ghz band. Both yesterday evening, and this morning, my phones, laptop and printer cannot connect, and for the most part, the network doesn't show up on available networks. When it does show up, the devices can't connect.I'm proficient enough to do the general home networking, but I'm at a loss as to how to fix this, without a daily reboot of the router (which seems excessive and unwarranted for a 2 day old e4200 [or any router to be honest]).
I have four E4200's doing the same. I have FiOS 15M download and 5M upload. As soon as QoS is turned on the upload speed drops down to usually 300k and it never exceeds 1M.At the same time any VPN connection gets dropped often.I also configured one E4200v1 as router and the second E4200v1 as Access Point (HDCP off) hardwired to the first one.Any VPN connection gets dropped when changing location. I.e. if VPN was established with the router, the connection gets dropped when in the location where AP is -- and the other way around too. There is no coverage gap between the two locations, to the contrary - they do overlap heavily.On Dec 21, 2011 the level 2 Linksys/Cisco people advised that they will forward the two issues to engineering and that resolution will be within 24-48 hours.

Both are sending out signals, the CG3100 on channel 11 at 40 Mhz and the WNR2000 on channel 1 at 20/40 Mhz. I keep the WNR for legacy devices while the CG is for N devices only. They don't seem to interfere with each other much.Currently my computer is the only device connected to the modem wirelessly, with the only wired connection being the router. As I write this, the connection has actually dropped to 26 Mbps in the Wireless Network Connection Status window. I understand that this number drops under network load, but there doesn't seem to be any at the moment. If I go into the control panel and simply click apply, the connection jumps back up to 150 Mbps. However, this always drops back down, sometimes immediately, sometimes after a few minutes. It usually settles down at 72 Mbps, sometimes 54 Mbps.My wireless adapter is an ASUS PCE-N13 with v3.2.7.0 Ralink drivers. OS is Windows 7 64-bit.

This only happens when my laptop is on a wireless connection and this phenomenon repeats itself untill the download is complete. During the connection crash I am not able to access any site.
My laptop is an Asus G series with Win7 64bit SP1, and I use utorrent for P2P downloads.
I have a problem with new E4200 WAN speed. I have 1Gb connection from my ISP, and my old Netgear router gives me about 350 Mbps WAN speed, but with new E4200 I only got 110 Mbps max download speed.Cisco live support tried suggested to change MTU from Auto to 1400 (and try different wlan channels, even that I don't use wlan). This MTU size change makes no difference with WAN speed. I have latest firmaware installed, router reseted several times, tried different cables etc. Also with same cable sets my old Netgear still gives about 3 times better WAN speed.WAN port (and all LAN ports) seems to negotiated at 1000 Mbps at both ONT (optical network terminal) and Linksys settings page, but unfortanately there is no way to change the setting from auto to manual at E4200 settings (and it is not possible to change any settings of ONT by user). I was thinking that if somehow it won't auto negotiate properly (even if the setting page says its ok) but maybe it actually negotiated 100 Mbps port to WAN.

The last 3 weeks speed drops intermittently through the day.Up graded to latest firm way yesterday 11-10-11 still have the issue, i.e. first thing this am had 15mbps and 1 hour later was below 1mbps. Have not added anything new equipment or software wise in the house during this time.
