So I have installed my new E4200 version 1 and I am disappointed with the speeds. My computer has a wireless N card and gigabit Ethernet compatibility. I am currently getting a miserly 54 mbs wireless and 100 mbs on the wire (connected with cat6 all the way)... Anything I should try to get close to advertized speeds?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently installed an E4200 router/AP and, on one desktop, an AE2500 USB Adapter. All the other devices on the LAN work fine and the laptops, even show improved tranfer rates. The desktop, with the AE2500, shows good or very good signal strength, but the speed is down around 5.5 Mbps. Running a full backup of the HDD proves the slow speed.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just ran some speedtests om my PC on the advice of my isp to see if my Linksys WRT54G router might be bad. As a result, I found that the router might not be entirely bad, but it might not be entirely good, either. I got .77 Mbps dowload and .17 Mbps upload on the first speedtest. I got .43 Mbps download on the second speedtest and the speed test hung hear the end. When I connected an IMac to the cable modem with an ethernet cable, the IMac ran strong. So the tech thought I should get a new router.
But wait a minute, isn't there a network adapter in the PC that the router talks to? Might the adapter be the problem, not the router? So I speedtested the wireless network to the IMac. That speedtest was fine, tiptop, like the ethernet direct connection test noted above. Did that tell me that the problem is in my PC network adapter, not the router? Then, I retested (speedtested) the connection on the PC and it was fine...excellent. Good up and down speeds, no hangs.Then, I checked the PC adapter (a Belkin). I saw three adapters on Device Manager, including the Belkin. I downloaded new drivers for the adapters (except for the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Minipoty Adapter - because it got a warning that the download software wasn't signed and might harm my computer).
Which is the wireless speed of this router? No speed infos are present in the official web site. In the web some sites say it's a 300, others say it's a 150, others 248...

I looked through these threads and tried disabling the 2.4Ghz band and it still remains at 130Mbps. There was no change, also read I can try set up a secondary SSID. I really don't know much about routers or configuring them

I have Hotwire fiber service and the plan is supposed to provide 20 megabit downlink speeds.
I just bought a Linksys/Cisco E4200 to replace an old Dell TrueMobile 2300 from 2004. With that router I got the full advertised downlink speed.
Now, when I run a speed test with the E4200 in place, the downlink speed is only 5168 kbps or so. Watching the speed test meters, I see the data arriving in bursts, every few seconds a whole lot of it gets through, then for a second or two nothing. It's pretty regular.
But, if I run a speed test with the ONT cable plugged right into a laptop, I see 19001 kbps - close enough to 20. This is the same cable that plugs into the back of the router.
With E4200 in place Direct into laptop what I can check or configure in the E4200 to change this behavior?
I'm running a Cisco E4200V2 router with the latest firmware (2.1.4.12284) on an iMac running OS X 10.8. My ISP is providing 15Mbps to my modem, which I've confirmed by connecting directly to it without the router. Once I put the router back in the path, my broadband speed drops to about 6 Mbps. Is this the best I can expect from this router?

We have successfully implement the primary router with 2 x 4 Mbps MPLS circuit. Site is having two computer room CR1 and CR2 and distance between both room is 200mts. CR1 is having primary core router and primary core switch where the service provider terminated the new MPLS circuit and we have done the successful implementation. CR2 is having Secondary core router and secondary core switch where we needs to have the termination of Ethernet link but service provider has delivered the Ethernet link on the CR1 which is incorrect DMARC Location.
Both the computer rooms are connected via optical copper can we use that copper to connect the circuit on CR2, as per my understanding we can use the optical fiber to connect the wind circuit on secondary router on CR2 by using the media connector.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my cable modem from the Motorola Sufboard 5120 to the DOCSIS 3.0 capable 6120. Provisioned it with Comcast and their "Blast" service (supposedly it caps at 16 down, 2 up).
I had, in the past, used my desktop via N-format wireless (DWA-525 N-format PCI adapter and DIR-655 N-format router) to do a speedtest.net test. I was getting 16 down and 2 up (as advertised). When I switched to the 6120, I did a speedtest.net test again to see what kind of gains, if any, I was getting. Turns out, I was getting 20+ down (nice improvement) and 1/2 Mbps up (a fourth of what I used to be getting?). Called Comcast. They "sent signals" (don't they always?) and claimed that it fixed it. My download speeds increased a smidge (about 22), but my upload speeds were still .5. Called Motorola, they had me do a few things and now I get 1 Mbps up and 27 - 30 down via wireless.
My download speeds are great. I'm content with that. If I hardwire from the cable modem directly to a ****py old laptop, a speedtest.net shows 4 Mbps up. So why do I get such a high upload speed when hardwired (4 Mbps), but a fraction of it (1/4th) when wireless? I'm not using any other devices to sap bandwidth (some are connected -- i.e. another desktop, my Droid phone, etc., but aren't actively pulling packets). And why would it go from 2 up (on my desktop via wireless in the past) to only 1 up (via wireless now) when the setup is the same across the board (as best I recall) other than upgrading my cable modem.
Since I get 4 up when hardwired straight off the cable modem, I assume my DIR-655 is slowing me down somehow. How to pick up the pace a bit? I've already tried the standard "power cycling", etc.
Oh, and the reason I go wireless -- my cable modem and wireless router are in my game room in the basement for my PS3. My desktop computer (and the wife's desktop computer) are two floors directly above it in our "office". Signal strength is "excellent" ... always has been. And again, pretty much everything is the same.

Set up my new E4200V2 last night, everything appeared to be working but while streaming videos over wired LAN I get short hiccups over wired. While streaming videos, a few second long pause is really, distracting, this is a deal breaker and my previous router (DIR-655) had no issue streaming any videos. Whoa, 10 ms over gigabit LAN. This is crazy, but doesn't tell us much. The 10 ms was one out of hundreds of pings, so its only intermittent. This might explain the hiccups, but this router doesn't appear to log anything, so its hard to say.Next was scp transfers, which never exceed 15MB/s, in either direction. For gigabit, wired LAN this is awful, with my previous DIR-655 I would get at the very least 40 MB/s, in all situations.Next up, iperf. I set up iperf on the two hosts, and iperf reports reasonable gigabit speeds. [code] Tonight I am thinking of reverting to an old firmware, doing a hard reset and seeing if it persists, and if no ideas come up in this forum, it is getting returned, 15MB/s over gigabit lan is terribly broken.

I am seeing something pretty bizarre: when trying to copy files between two computers (both Windows 7 SP1 64bit), both physically plugged into the back of the E4200, I see extremely slow transfer speeds: 1.0-1.1 MB/sec. Both computers are fast (i7-2600K, both using SSDs) and both have gigabit ports (and the 4200's web UI shows both ports in question as operating in gigabit mode).
This is so slow as to be sort of funny. Each of these computers see speeds well in excess of that when transferring between the computer and outside internet sites...so it's kind of funny that two computers plugged into the same switch in the back of the 4200 see 1 MB/second.
All I want is functional Wi-Fi in my house like the rest of the world. Unfortunately, I cannot have that for whatever reason.
Now that I said that, Let's me get down to explaining my issue. I orginally owned a Linksys WRT350n. This router worked fine for years, untill one day I decided to do a speed test on my new Motrola Atrix. My Wired computer gets ~22000kbps down and 4000kbps up... My wireless speedtest on my Atrix yielded 2000kbps down and 4000kbps up. I assumed it was the phone, so i went and tried every other wireless device in my house. Everyone of them got the same result.. 2000kbps down.. 4000kbps up.
At this point I went into my router settings and tried every available channel, all of them yielded the same result of 2000kbps down and 4000kbps up.. At this point, I assumed it was the router. Ive had it for a few years and figured it was just reaching EOL. I rushed to my nearest bestbuy to pick up a brand new Linksys E4200. I brought it home, hooked it up and was eager to test my new wireless speeds. Unfortunately the same results of 2000kbps down and 4000kbps up was the yield. Once again, I've tried every possible channel with no change to my speeds. At this point I called up Linksys/Cisco support.. They were POSITIVE it was a hardware issue and had me exchange the router, even though I informed them i had the same issue with my older router of a different model. I went along with it anyway, and exchanged my router. Same issue. I called Cisco/Linksys back up and informed them, and basically they told me "they'd make a note of the issue and call me back at a later date."
I downloaded a WiFi Analyzer on my cell phone. Theres only two other dectable networks in my area, and they are low low low signal. So, I don't believe it's heavy saturation. The router is in the same room as 3 of the wireless devices that get 2000kbps down/4000kbps up. So it's not range either.
I have a Netgear CG3100 modem hooked up to a Netgear WNR2000 router. Both are sending out signals, the CG3100 on channel 11 at 40 Mhz and the WNR2000 on channel 1 at 20/40 Mhz. I keep the WNR for legacy devices while the CG is for N devices only. They don't seem to interfere with each other much.Currently my computer is the only device connected to the modem wirelessly, with the only wired connection being the router. As I write this, the connection has actually dropped to 26 Mbps in the Wireless Network Connection Status window. I understand that this number drops under network load, but there doesn't seem to be any at the moment. If I go into the control panel and simply click apply, the connection jumps back up to 150 Mbps. However, this always drops back down, sometimes immediately, sometimes after a few minutes. It usually settles down at 72 Mbps, sometimes 54 Mbps.My wireless adapter is an ASUS PCE-N13 with v3.2.7.0 Ralink drivers. OS is Windows 7 64-bit.

If I plug into the back of the e4200 I can download at roughly the raw speed of the powerline 7 MBps. So I know the powerline connection is just fine and the routing function of the e4200 is just fine. When I use my laptop my speeds are wildly variable on both 2.4 and 5 ghz. With a clear line of sight to the router (maybe 7 feet away) they seem to hover around 1.5 MBps but have reached as high as 5.5 MBps twice. Using my much cheap older Buffalo router I routinely get speeds in the 4.5 MBps range which I would consider acceptable (although it has other, separate issues). I have followed all of the advice I can find on the forums. The range is also pretty terrible. If I'm 20 feet away and no longer have a clear line of site to the router I will frequenly have almost no signal and miserably slow download speeds in the kbps.I have made sure that I am using wpa2 with AES, I have changed my MTU to 1365, I have updated the firmware to the one released in March, and I have explored setting different channels on the router to no avail. I also contacted tech support which I'm only marginally sure understood that I was talking about the LAN connection and not the internet.
Contrary to what i have been reading, i have a DOCis 3 Modem, on Comcast, with an internet connection of 1GB. My wireless connections are in the 150-300 Mbps range thru a Linksys 4500N router

View 9 Replies View RelatedI currently own a LinkSys-WRT54GL 802.11a/b/g wireless router, and my ISP is Comcast Cable providing me with 15 Mbps (that's bits per second, I believe) download speed. I am wondering if there is any benefit with using an 802.11n wireless router to access the Internet? The maximum theoretical speed of the WRT54GL router is 54 Mbps (802.11g), which is faster than the 15 Mbps provided by my ISP.
I know that 802.11n has a max bandwidth of 300 Mbps, and it would work for intra- house transfers, such as streaming video from one computer to another.
But is there any benefit to 802.11n for Internet activity, such as web browsing, gaming, and streaming video from Netflix.
Why my E3200 is (for lack of a better word) "throttling" my internet speeds.I'm signed up for my ISP's 50Mbps data plan. When I hook up my laptop directly to the cable modem (via LAN cable), I see close to 50Mbps as the internet speed (measure via speedtest.net). When I hook up my router to the cable modem, and connect via LAN cable to the router, the internet speed comes down to around a maximum of 26Mbps. NOTE, that I am still talking about a wired connection and not a wireless access. Speed tests with the wireless access do yield the same results as well. To rule out the obvious, I've confirmed that there aren't any other devices on the network and no other bandwidth hogging applications running while I performed these tests.

Dual Band- 2,4 and 5 GHz
2,4 in 20MHz only - 5 GHz in 40 MHz only
2,4 Mixed - 5 Ghz only N
WPA2 personal in both
Channel - automatic (both)
I have checked that the 5 Ghz network can only use 4 channels: 36, 40, 44, 48. Where are the channels up to 100 (or more)? How to get all the power of the router?
I recently purchased the 60Mb superhub plan from Virgin media but for some reason I am only getting 1-3Mbps when I test it on speedtest.net using 2.4GHz wireless band and I get 10-25Mbps using the 5GHz wireless band. I tried testing my laptop on the 2GHz wireless band and put it in the same location as my PC and get around 35-40Mbps. On the computer downstairs which is closer to the router I also tried testing it and get 50-60Mb. (I can't test it on 5GHz on my laptop or the other computer because they don't support 5GHz)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just upgrade my service with Comcast so I can now get up to 50Mbps, however the modem when directly connected to the PC can obtain these speeds, it does not when the PC is connected to the E4200 router. In fact the Cisco Connect speed test shows the upload speeds (10+ Mbps) to be faster than the download speed(4.82 Mbps). I upgraded the firmware to the latest level but it did not make a difference.

They got on my mac and changed the Ethernet setting to "manually" instead of "Automatic", then changed the speed to 10mbps instead of "autoselect". Now the internet is going at the 10mbps im supposed to be getting, but when i plug it into my router (wall>router>laptop) i get the .90mbps again. So do i how do i change the same setting on the router?
