Linksys Wireless Router :: 100 Mbps Speed Dropped By Half When Connected Using HG8240?

Aug 16, 2012

I've recently subscribed to a 100Mbps fibre broadband service with the bundled Huawei EchoLife HG8240 ONT modem and speed-tested it with an achievable speed of almost 100Mbps (uplink and downlink)  on my desktop PC.However, when I connect my new Cisco Linksys E1200 Wireless-N Router to it, I noticed the speed dropped by almost half  (about 50Mbps  both ways) when I conduct a similar speedtest .

note that I'm using wired cable and there's only 1 single PC connected to it and it is not shared. This includes upgrading the firmware to the latest version, disabling the IPV6 setting and configuring QOS.My current hardware/ firmware version is as follows:

H/w ver : 2
F/w ver : 2.0.03

Internet Speed Has Dropped By More Than Half

Sep 18, 2012

A few days ago I sent my ISP an email and a few days later they called my house and talked to my mom about the support issues I had addressed with slow speeds. They directed her to www.att.com/speedtest and our internet speed was reading 6MB/s down and 512kb/upload as it should be.The problem is, outside that test I am not seeing the performance. Let me put it to you like this, right now the internet is so slow that Speedtest.net consistently gets errors when trying to connect for a test. Any website that isnt text based like say Reddit, takes ages to load. Youtube videos? Streams? Forget about those, 240p buffers as slow as 720p.When I finally manage to get Speedtest.net to do a test after numerous internet resets I barely crack 1MB/s down IF AT ALL, and .12kb/s upload IF AT ALL.

Its maddening. Its actually affecting my siblings college work as their online tests have been failed due to disconnecting.Something I should have mentioned earlier is that I do have a router. Its a Linksys WRT54GS with the latest firmware. Something that is also annoying is that when I plug my internet directly into my computer, it wont work, but if its plugged through the router it works just fine. This has never happened and its making me draw a blank.AT&T support suggested the we upgrade our Modem to one of the newer ones that are a modem/wireless router combo which we plan on doing. Right now we have a Speed stream 4100 that weve had since we got the internet in 2006 and I guess they don't even make them anymore.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - .77 Mbps Download And .17 Mbps Upload Speed

Mar 11, 2013

I just ran some speedtests om my PC on the advice of my isp to see if my Linksys WRT54G router might be bad.  As a result, I found that the router might not be entirely bad, but it might not be entirely good, either.  I got .77 Mbps dowload and .17 Mbps upload on the first speedtest.  I got .43 Mbps download on the second speedtest and the speed test hung hear the end. When I connected an IMac to the cable modem with an ethernet cable, the IMac ran strong.  So the tech thought I should get a new router.

But wait a minute, isn't there a network adapter in the PC that the router talks to?  Might the adapter be the problem, not the router?  So I speedtested the wireless network to the IMac.  That speedtest was fine, tiptop, like the ethernet direct connection test noted above.  Did that tell me that the problem is in my PC network adapter, not the router? Then, I retested (speedtested) the connection on the PC and it was fine...excellent.  Good up and down speeds, no hangs. Then, I checked the PC adapter (a Belkin).  I saw three adapters on Device Manager, including the Belkin.  I downloaded new drivers for the adapters (except for the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Minipoty Adapter - because it got a warning that the download software wasn't signed and might harm my computer).

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA2700 Signal Dropped To 5 Mbps / No Internet Access

Dec 8, 2012

I've had this router for about 3 weeks.  It's only 20 feet from the computer, but my computer on 2 or 3 separate days had trouble staying connected.  The signal dropped to 5 Mbps and had a little yellow symbol that said no internet access and when I looked at the properties it said, "limited or no connectivity."  I got impatient and purchased a 75 ft Ethernet cable online with plans to possibly return the router as I don't really need wireless anyways and since I spent $100 on this router I expect it to work at 20 ft distance.

For the last few days it has remained at 54 Mbps or more sometimes all the way up to 108 mbps.  But now since it got pretty low a few times I don't trust it enough so I might return it anyways.IPv6 connectivity says no network access.  This might be because when it asked for administrator password to recognize it as a trusted home network I closed it instead of putting in the password.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Valetplus M20 Cuts Speed Near In Half

I did a test to check the speed of my connection with my PS3.  First I checked the speed straight from my internet providers modem and I get 18.9 Mbps.  Then checked it through the Valetplus router and the speed results are 8.5 Mbps.  Both tests were wired in with same cable. Why this happens and if that is common with wifi routers?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 N Clients Connect At Half Speed

Sep 16, 2011

I've just set up my E4200 and none of my wireless N clients connect at full speed. Irrespective of what wireless settings I use they all seem to connect at around half speed. My laptop for example insists on connecting at 144.4 Mbps though it supports 300 Mbps. Periodically it will connect at 300Mbps, but the next time the I reconnect or I make a settings change on the router (irrespective of what the change is) the speed drops back to 144.4. Clients that support 150Mbps connect a consistent 65Mbps.I'm running FW 1.0.02, though the problem existed with 1.0.01 (I hard reset before and after upgrade) and I've tried re-flasing the 1.0.02 firmware.Any combination of channel, width, mode and security type etc doesn't seem to influence the performance. Nor does distance (the client above is 3ft from the router). My previous router was located in exactly the same place as the E4200 and I had a solid full speed connection all over the house.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 - Wifi Speed Is Half Then Wired?

Jul 18, 2012

I've got a 2 month old e3000 with the latest firmware. (1.04 i believe) I have run speedtests from wired and wireless machines on my network. All of the wired connections show a speed of around 15Mps (which is consistent with my providers guaranteed speed) but when I test any of the wireless connections I get somewhere between 3 and 7 Mps. I get the same degradation in speed when I stand directly next to the e3000.

Other then SSID and Passphrases I have everything set to the default settings. I have rebooted multiple times with no change. The e3000 is mounted on a 2x4 with several feet of clearance all around and is also located in the coolest part of the house. I am using Speedtest.Net for all the tests.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Downlink Speed Limited To 6 Mbps

Dec 30, 2011

I posted this in the wired forum, because it's the wired speed that is limited, but it looks like there's more E4200 expertise over here, so here it is again:

I have Hotwire fiber service and the plan is supposed to provide 20 megabit downlink speeds.

I just bought a Linksys/Cisco E4200 to replace an old Dell TrueMobile 2300 from 2004.  With that router I got the full advertised downlink speed.

Now, when I run a speed test with the E4200 in place, the downlink speed is only 5168 kbps or so.  Watching the speed test meters, I see the data arriving in bursts, every few seconds a whole lot of it gets through, then for a second or two nothing.  It's pretty regular.

But, if I run a speed test with the ONT cable plugged right into  a laptop, I see 19001 kbps - close enough to 20.  This is the same cable that plugs into the back of the router.

With E4200 in place Direct into laptop what I can check or configure in the E4200 to change this behavior?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1000 Speed Drops Down Significantly To 8 MBPS

Aug 11, 2011

I purchased a new router - cisco e1000. Currently, i have 2 laptops wirelessly connected to this router. When i do a broadband speed test, the speed drops down significantly to 8MBPS while if i connect it to the cable modem  directly (wired) i.e., without router, i'm getting 15 MBPS download speed. I did a couple of times this speed check and the results are same. I tried changing the advanced settings in the router (which was specified in one of the post in this forum) but no luck. Is it that i need to buy e4200 to match the wired speed of 15 MBPS or what other things I can do to get the same speed of my cable modem (provided by my ISP)?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Get Download Speed Up To 25 Mbps Before Switch Back To E1000

Oct 9, 2012

I just "upgraded" from an E1000 to an E1200 wireless router.  I had good performance with the E1000, and I only upgraded to the E1200 because it was on sale.My only complaint with the E1200 is the slower download speed on my desktop PC that is connected directly to the router.  My normal download speed on the desktop PC was 25 Mbps with the E1000 model.  After I disabled the WMM on the E1200 as others suggested, the download speed on the desktop machine immediately increased from 5 Mbps up to 15 Mbps.   Any other suggestions to get the download speed up to 25 Mbps before I switch back to my E1000? The E1200 router is connected to my Arris TM602G modem.  Both modem and router were reset during the installation process. I setup parental controls for a couple of iPods and configured Open DNS, but other than that, the router is using default settings.  All wireless devices in the house seem to be performing fine with the E1200.

Flashing it with the lastest firmware worked but still, I don't get all my speed as I has with my WPG54GS (with DD-WRT).Second, speed is really unstable, like if it was working by burst of data.Third, I got a gigabit port on my computer, plugged in the router and still, I can't make more than 10megs/sec WIRED (!) between my computers. I desactivate the ipv6 from my network card but still, no luck.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2000 Max Wireless-n Speed 72 Mbps?

Sep 13, 2011

I just bought a refurbished E2000 wireless-n router with 1 Gb LAN ports (from Cisco online). This router is meant to replace my Netgear wireless-n router that only have 100 Mb LAN ports.I have 10 devices in my home network, 6 of them are using wireless (1 'g' and 5 'n') and 4 are interconnected with cat5e cables (trough the router). The devices have some different operating systems and their network adapters are from different brands. When I set up the Netgear router I didn't have to adjust anything for the wireless network to work fine. All wireless-n devices worked at 150 Mbps (sometimes going down shortly to 130 Mbps). The wireless-g device worked at 54 Mbps. For the last 2 days I've been trying to set up the E2000 to achieve a wireless-n speed higher then 72 Mpbs... without success.I tried all the suggestions that I found in the Cisco Knowledge Base.

- Upgrading the firmware to the latest version

- Trying different channels and channel widths

- Different wireless security methods and many others.

Also trying different settings on the different devices doesn't work.Changing the distance between router and devices as well as changing the location of the router don't affect the results.Switching on only 1 device at a time doesn't change anything either. It looks like the E2000 is set to not transmit on a higher speed than 72 Mbps, when it's actually supposed to achieve a wireless-n speed of up to 300 Mbps. I would be lucky if I get the half of it, but not if it's only one fourth.

AR680W Router Slows Download Speed To Half?

Jan 16, 2012

I am on a point to point internet connection that is rated at 2mbps. With my PC connected directly to the modem or through an old Airlink101 (model AR680W) router typical DL speeds are 1.9 to 2.4 mbps. However the Airlink router has to be reset 2 to 3 times per day.

I am trying to replace this router, however every router I've tried cuts the download speed in half (about 0.9 to 1.3 mbps). So far I've tried two Ultra Speed wireless N routers; two D-Link DIR 615's; and one Linksys E1200. When I talk to their tech support after testing they say that the routers must be faulty, but what are the odds of getting 5 bad routers from 3 different manufactures.

My IP does not know of any compatability issues with any routers.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Speed Drops When Connected Through E3200

Mar 7, 2012

Got a Linksys E3200, and a gigabit card, even two, Realtec and Intel, have a connection ggbit. If the power cord plug directly into netcard, all at great, the tracker up to 80 MB per second, shakes on speedtest.net, shows 780 240 + Mbps. When i connect my inet through the router, the speed drops to 12 MB(100 Mbit) and speedtest the same, but in the the web interface in the statistics shows that everything is connected to a gigabit.

Plus, when I ping my ISP's website (ip -t ) and assume [URL] click on the test, the router with 1ms pings are beginning to rise to 30 ms, and when it is directly in netcard, it stable 1ms.... When through the router, torrent shake it just do up to 100ms jumps. I have all the settings , and set up his hands, and a manager, all for nothing. It started five days ago, before that everything was ok. Can a router burn? Rather it gigabit controller?

Wireless Connection Speed Reduced By Half?

Aug 3, 2012

I noticed my wireless connection was decently fast for my needs which was 13-15 up /5 down. I am in the next room from my study and around <10 ft away from the modem in the study. However today the internet was extremely slow for everyone in the house so I went to reset the modem. After resetting the modem I noticed that the internet speed went a bit up and so I used speedtest.net to see how fast the connection was in the study. The computer in the study is connected with a ethernet cable to the modem. I was amazed that the speed in the study was nearly double the amount. I understand that wireless connections are undoubtedly slower than a wired connection, but is it normal for the speed to drop by half when I am <10 ft away from the modem?

Transfer speed for sending or receiving files from a USB external HDD connected to the router is slow? Speed ranging from 2MB - 4MB/s. The HDD is definitely capable of at least 80MB/s if plugged directly into the PC. Is it meant to be this slow or there's a fix somewhere which I'm not aware of? We are currently paying for a 7.5 Mbps download speed. The computer upstairs and my girlfriends computer which is 10 feet away, get speeds between 7.5 Mbps and 10 during boost. My computer during a speed test will spike to 7.5 Mbps and remain anywhere from 2 Mbps to 3.5, roughly have of what they have. I have tested both wireless devices on my computer and my girlfriends, no improvement. She is running a device plugged via usb, I'm running a wireless card. Tried her usb, no success. Went into Task Manager and processes looking for other programs that would eat bandwidth, no success. And played around for a little bit with the channel settings on my card. It is Asus 802.11n WirelessLanCard.
