I have the E4200 with latest firmware . When I connect my computer to the E4200 and that to my modem im getting about 50mb speed. If I disconnect the E4200 and connect my computer straight to the modem I get about 95mb speed?I have the Virgin Broadband 100mb service and all is working fine at their end.
View 2 RepliesI have an E2000 Wireless N Router setup to use WPA2/AES. I have Comcast cable internet service and I just upgraded to the 50Mbps speed. I have a Motorola Surfboard modem (DOCSIS 3.0).
If I connect my computer directly to the modem or to one of the ports on the E2000 I get great speeds sometimes up to 60Mbps but on average I am getting 45-48Mbps which is acceptable.
When I try to connect the same computer to the E2000 wirelessly my speed tests return a horrible 18-22Mbps. When I run these tests the computer is in the same room as the router. As I move throughout my house the speed tests are the same. My wireless connection speed to my laptop is good 144Mbps and 300Mbps depending on the band (2.4 or 5.0).
I have tried to use the 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz using different channels. I have also tried different "N Transmission Rate" settings. One of them (5 - 52Mpbs) does increase the speed to around 25-26Mpbs but that is all.
Strangely (or maybe not) the upload speeds are consistent on all of the tests at around 12Mpbs.
I am using Speedtest.net and Speakeasy for all of my tests.
Is there anyway I can get my wireless download speed up to around 40Mpbs? Or am I going to have to run cables through my house to the devices where I need these high speeds?
I also have upgraded to the latest firmware version.(1.0.04)
In our area Comcast has increased the internet speed to 50mb. I have a six year old WRT54GL. Can this router pass 50mb through to the computer on a wired connection?

I have 1Gb connection from my ISP, and my old Netgear router gives me about 350 Mbps WAN speed, but with new E4200 I only got 110 Mbps max download speed.Cisco live support tried suggested to change MTU from Auto to 1400 (and try different wlan channels, even that I don't use wlan). This MTU size change makes no difference with WAN speed. I have latest firmaware installed, router reseted several times, tried different cables etc. Also with same cable sets my old Netgear still gives about 3 times better WAN speed.WAN port (and all LAN ports) seems to negotiated at 1000 Mbps at both ONT (optical network terminal) and Linksys settings page, but unfortanately there is no way to change the setting from auto to manual at E4200 settings (and it is not possible to change any settings of ONT by user). I was thinking that if somehow it won't auto negotiate properly (even if the setting page says its ok) but maybe it actually negotiated 100 Mbps port to WAN.

Same hard drive directly connected to my Mac Book Pro Unibody produce 30MB/sec. However my internet connection thru the router fairly shows 12MB/sec.It sounds funny, but for me is 4 times faster to download file from the Web rather the from hard dive that I'm holding in my hand.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a newly formatted (i.e. empty) 2TB WD my book elite which when i connect it to my computers usb port, can transfer a 6gb video file at over 100MB/s according to the win 7 detail box. However, when i connect it to the usb port on the back of the e4200 and try to transfer the same file, it only goes at 8MB/s max ... it appears to be going at usb 1 speed. i've got the latest firmware on both the e4200 and the my book 1111 and everything seems to be working fine for both, except this transfer rate when connected to the e4200.granted, cisco doesn't specifically list this drive as being tested, but the router does recognize it and shows it as usb 2.0, but yet the transfer speed is just too slow.8MB/s is just not workable...i could just connect the drive directly to the computer and share it that way, but connecting it to the e4200 was one of the reasons i bought the e4200.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIm trying to optimize my E4200 settings and Ive noted that ping and download speeds are extremely slow for the internet service I signed up for. Ping speeds are consistently more than 1000ms and dowload speeds typically are less than 3Mbps. These are for both wireless and wired connections to the E4200 router.
When I disconnect the router and hardwire my laptop directly to the the modem, ping speeds are less than 100ms and download speeds are 20Mbps.
Simply put, webpage loading is at a snails pace with wireless and wired connection the router, but blazing fast when hardwired directly to the modem.
On a seperate issue, the iMac I have is also **bleep** slow even when hardwired directly to the modem. Is there an obvious router setting Im screwing up? Router is updated with the latest software.
I have recently purchased a Cisco E4200 to replace my D-LINK DIR-655, which I thought was defective because I was getting slow wirless file transfer speed, regardless of setting, location and client.Using the E4200, when I transfer a file from a PC to another, both connected at 300mb on the 2.4ghz band, the file transfer rate reported by windows 7 and networx is from 2MB/s to 3.5MB/s. I think those transfer rates are not acceptable. Is that a good assumption ? I would expect something in the range of 10MB/s (which is what I get with a cheap dlink router, wired)
I also had great difficulty finding a channel. I had to try them all one-by-one as the auto channel selection made my PCs connect at 130mb.The E4200 is setup as follows:

-802.11n only
I have tried 3 different computers with different network adapters and they all underperform (IMO..).There are no other wireless networks in my area.I also took the E4200 to my office which is very crowed. Every single channel is occupied by several wireless networks. I get a file transfer speed PC to PC of about 2MB.I basically could have kept my DIR-655 as the speeds are identical.
I have a problem with my download speed. I'm supposed to have a speed of 60 MBPS and when I collect my computer direct to the modem I received it but with my e2000 router, the 3 computer connected to it can't reach more than 30 MBPS. I just updated the firmware of the router to the newest version but nothing changed.

The HDD is definitely capable of at least 80MB/s if plugged directly into the PC. Is it meant to be this slow or there's a fix somewhere which I'm not aware of? Thought it's suppose to be the top of the line products but seems so inferior if I were to compare with other high end routers in the market which performs better, faster and definitely much cheaper.

All the other devices on the LAN work fine and the laptops, even show improved tranfer rates. The desktop, with the AE2500, shows good or very good signal strength, but the speed is down around 5.5 Mbps. Running a full backup of the HDD proves the slow speed.

When I run a speed test on my comp I get 10-13 mbps download on average. Here's the issue, upon visiting my mothers house and running the same speed test I got very similar results. She is running a Lynksys G router on a DOCIS 2.0 cable modem with 12mps connection. My question is, how can this be so, am I at the limits of my comps g network card? as a disclaimer I would like to note I am connected to the G band on both routers.

I checked on Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and it gives me 0.20 mbps it is not going to the max my max is 3.00 mbps it is not the wireless usb adapter because i checked on another computer and it went to the max 3.00 mbps and i putted it in the same location as my computer so than i realised that it was my computer that is giving slow download speed and it can't find much connections.

I have home theater equipment that uses the newer N signal so I purchased a Linksys E3000 Wireless-N Router. I have one of the LAN outputs on the Actiontec feeding the Linksys input and Wi-Fi turned off on the Actiontec. This is working good for my wireless home theater equipment but I am having problems with my wired speed. It has gone from averaging anywhere from 20 to 30 mbps on numerous test sites when plugged into the Actiontec to averaging around 10 mbps when plugged into the Linksys.
1) Is my wireless N speed going to top out at 10mbps or less since that is all the router is showing on wired? Shouldn�t N be broadcasting a faster speed if given the ability?
2) I have my computer currently plugged directly into the Linksys verses the Actiontec. This makes it easier to program the Linksys router. Since I am no longer using the wireless part of the Actiontec there really is no need to be plugged into it. Is there anything I can do get the speed higher on the Linksys, a setting I can change? Will I have to plug the computer back into the Actiontec to get the higher speed and then move it every time I may need to make a change to the Linksys?
I bought the new E2500 Router about 5 months ago and it was great until one day the wilreless part would not give me any speed at all. I ran a wired test of the router and I would get full 30Mbps speed that I'm supposed to get. So after firmware updates and everything else I took it back and got another one.It has worked great for a month and today it's now doing the same wilress slow down issue. I can run a lan connected test and get full speed. But wireless is bouncing around at 5Mbps~13Mbps. No where near the 30Mbps I'm supposed to be getting. What is causing the wireless to bomb like this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just purchased an e1200 wireless router. Wireless speeds seem to be very slow. I'm trying to transfer 1 file to my media server, and am only getting 221kb/s. Also, internet connection seems to be slow as well (though if I plug directly into the router or the modem, I get speeds of 25Mbps, however when connecting wirelessly via the router I get speeds closer to 2Mbps (according to speedtest.com).I've played around with the settings as per other posts, and seemed to get the best speeds with the following config (however it is still very poor):
- security mode: WPA2 Personal
- network mode: B/G (have also tried N, which gave worse speeds)
- channels 1,3,6,9, and 11
I am using WRT54G linksys router. When connwcted through the router my download speed is very slow(~700K). If i plug in the LAN calble directly to my laptop the speed is ~4M
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a EA 3500 router and my speed is going only half the speed it was without the router.I have charter 100 meg internet, and a alienware Pc with a gigabit card.I wa going 100 megs and now I am at 38-50.I have tried hard reset with the bottom button, I have turned off all firewalls, I have changed my MTU to 1400 and 1500, I have went to speedguide.net and ran a optimizer., I have tried just about everything I can think of. firmware is up to date.
Is there anything I am missing, or am I not going to get these speeds with this router, I was told when I bought it, it was what I needed, Was I duped?, or is there just some setting i need to fix i am not aware of?

I've used Netgear & other routers for years; I was able to see the devices connected over ethernet & wifi through the router configuration utility. Cisco's interface looks poor; there is no way to see the connected devices.Many of the devices I have have a 5 Ghz radio and some don't so i need to see at what speeds they are connecting at.Or does Cisco not provide this utility? I am surprised that a high-end product from Cisco does not have this function.
