View 7 RepliesAll I want is functional Wi-Fi in my house like the rest of the world. Unfortunately, I cannot have that for whatever reason.
Now that I said that, Let's me get down to explaining my issue. I orginally owned a Linksys WRT350n. This router worked fine for years, untill one day I decided to do a speed test on my new Motrola Atrix. My Wired computer gets ~22000kbps down and 4000kbps up... My wireless speedtest on my Atrix yielded 2000kbps down and 4000kbps up. I assumed it was the phone, so i went and tried every other wireless device in my house. Everyone of them got the same result.. 2000kbps down.. 4000kbps up.
At this point I went into my router settings and tried every available channel, all of them yielded the same result of 2000kbps down and 4000kbps up.. At this point, I assumed it was the router. Ive had it for a few years and figured it was just reaching EOL. I rushed to my nearest bestbuy to pick up a brand new Linksys E4200. I brought it home, hooked it up and was eager to test my new wireless speeds. Unfortunately the same results of 2000kbps down and 4000kbps up was the yield. Once again, I've tried every possible channel with no change to my speeds. At this point I called up Linksys/Cisco support.. They were POSITIVE it was a hardware issue and had me exchange the router, even though I informed them i had the same issue with my older router of a different model. I went along with it anyway, and exchanged my router. Same issue. I called Cisco/Linksys back up and informed them, and basically they told me "they'd make a note of the issue and call me back at a later date."
I downloaded a WiFi Analyzer on my cell phone. Theres only two other dectable networks in my area, and they are low low low signal. So, I don't believe it's heavy saturation. The router is in the same room as 3 of the wireless devices that get 2000kbps down/4000kbps up. So it's not range either.
I get about only 500 KB/s for accessing files (as a network drive), regardless of the size of the file (even full 4GB iso)If I watch a video via media server however I get around 3MB/s.My firmware is currently on 1.00 and I am not upgrading due to the notorious media server problem.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi just replaced my malfunctioning E4200 with the new EA6500 and the speeds are almost like dail-up. I haven't changed ANYTHING in regards to the setup, so I don't see what I could possibly be doing wrong. I even went as far as hooking up the old E4200 to my laptop while having the EA6500 hooked up to my desktop so that I could cross-reference the router settings. They were exactly the same.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just purchased an E-3000 and when I log into the user interface it seems changing pages and saving settings takes forever. I click on a section in the router menu and it takes what seems like 30 seconds for the page to change or accept the new settings. It's not my browser it's definitely a Linksys Router issue. I updated to the latest firmware and latest Cisco Connect software as well. Is this slow user interface a normal thing with these routers?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've set up PPPoE on my EA4500 router with a Vigor 120 modem in bridged mode and it says an internet connection is established, but the connection is extremely slow on all my devices. When I run the speed test within the EA4500 firmware it appears fine, but I cannot load any web pages on my laptop or other decives because the connection is so slow. The connection is slow with both wired and wireless connections. I've tried changing the MTU settings with no success. I've also tried using a different router and connecting the modem directly to my laptop and using PPPoE within the laptop and these both work fine, so I think it's clear there is a problem with the EA4500 router itself.
I'm just using the Vigor 120 to authenticate and connect to the internet itself, with the router in DHCP automatic configuration mode. I think this is causing a double NAT.
I am having a problem with my newly purchased Linksys E1000 router, I am having terribly slow network speeds while on that network.
Here are my network speeds with The e1000: (wireless) And here are the speeds with my old wrt54g: (Wireless) Here are the results directly hooked up to the modem: (wired)
I've tried setting the MTU to 1500, did a RMA with Linksys to see if it was a hardware problem, did a firmware update to the e1000, disabled DHCP and SPI, reseted my router and my modem....none of those things have worked
My ISP is comcast and I have a Arris TM502G modem
For the last 4 years I’ve been using the Linksys Router, model WRT150N V. 1.1 and never had any problems—until now.Yesterday I noticed that my wireless devices (i.e., two computers, tablet and Internet radio) either don’t work at all (the Internet radio) or the pages load extremely slowly—for example, the tablet has become, for all intents and purposes, unusable. Since my ‘main’ computer is connected directly to my cable internet, I know that there is nothing wrong with the Internet connection itself, only with wireless connection.I disconnected the Linksys Router for 2 minutes and reconnected it, but to no avail. I know that I have not made any changes to any software/hardware that might affect the speed.Since I also happen to have access to another wireless Internet connection (a different provider), I connected to that network and all my wireless devices were working perfectly. Therefore, I think the problem must be with the router. I am using Windows XP (on the main computer, where the router and Internet cable are attached).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to figure out what channel my Linksys E4200 is CURRENTLY using (at the time I check it)I am having issues with occassionally losing my connection (mostly from the computer furthest from the router) and it may be caused by a cordless phone , in the room with that computer as I think the problem only occurs when on the phone in that room.So I am trying to determine what channel that it may be using at the time of the drops ...(so I can set it NOT to use that channel)I'm pretty sure it it something on the 5ghz (40mhz)side .but I don't really want to set the router to use 20mhz only as the speed greatly drops when on 20mhz only (i.e. 50mbps vs up to 200mbs when 5ghz is activated)
Checking my Router set up page, I see only what channels is CAN use, not what is currently being used.Is there anyway to identify what channel it is currently using so I can see if it is a specific channel causing the issue and not have to switch off 40mhz?
I currently have a Linksys E1200 router and I am getting anywhere from .3-.5 of a megabit per second download speed while upload speed ranges from 2-5 Mbps. This is very strange to me as I have never seen a connection this slow or one that had a higher upload speed than download speed.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with new E4200 WAN speed. I have 1Gb connection from my ISP, and my old Netgear router gives me about 350 Mbps WAN speed, but with new E4200 I only got 110 Mbps max download speed.Cisco live support tried suggested to change MTU from Auto to 1400 (and try different wlan channels, even that I don't use wlan). This MTU size change makes no difference with WAN speed. I have latest firmaware installed, router reseted several times, tried different cables etc. Also with same cable sets my old Netgear still gives about 3 times better WAN speed.WAN port (and all LAN ports) seems to negotiated at 1000 Mbps at both ONT (optical network terminal) and Linksys settings page, but unfortanately there is no way to change the setting from auto to manual at E4200 settings (and it is not possible to change any settings of ONT by user). I was thinking that if somehow it won't auto negotiate properly (even if the setting page says its ok) but maybe it actually negotiated 100 Mbps port to WAN.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have brand new Cisco E4200 and WD Passport 500Gb.When it connected to router wireless (802.11n 300Mbit/sec) file transfer speed is around terrible 3 MB/sec. Same hard drive directly connected to my Mac Book Pro Unibody produce 30MB/sec. However my internet connection thru the router fairly shows 12MB/sec.It sounds funny, but for me is 4 times faster to download file from the Web rather the from hard dive that I'm holding in my hand.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed the E4200. Internet works fine, and the internet connection is maximum performance. But if I copy a file between laptops, or to my mediaplayer (AC Ryan HD2), the connection is 3MB/s tops. I changed to the 5gHz and N settings, still no change.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently bought the E4200 thinking it would be the latest and greatest, and I wouldnt' have to worry, but after just a simple test of transferring files between my Home Server, and my PC (Both connected over Gigabit ethernet using CAT6 cables, with only the E4200 inbetween).I use to get anywhere from 40 MegaBytes/second to 50MegaBytes/second on my D-Link 655.But now I am lucky to barely get 20 MegaBytes/second. Is there an issue with this router? or am I expecting too much from Linksys?

I am seeing something pretty bizarre: when trying to copy files between two computers (both Windows 7 SP1 64bit), both physically plugged into the back of the E4200, I see extremely slow transfer speeds: 1.0-1.1 MB/sec. Both computers are fast (i7-2600K, both using SSDs) and both have gigabit ports (and the 4200's web UI shows both ports in question as operating in gigabit mode).
This is so slow as to be sort of funny. Each of these computers see speeds well in excess of that when transferring between the computer and outside internet sites...so it's kind of funny that two computers plugged into the same switch in the back of the 4200 see 1 MB/second.
Recently purchased a Linksys E4200.Computers on network:Two hard-wired gigabit desktops: one Windows XP, one Windows 7One hard-wired 100mbps desktop running Windows 7One laptop with an Intel 4965AGN running Windows 7.File transfer rates between any of the desktops and the laptop is very slow: ~2 megabytes/s
File transfer rates between the gigabit desktops is good (~50 megabytes/s, hdd bottleneck), transfers between the 100mbps desktop and one of the gigabit machines gives ~10 megabytes/s.Currently running on the 5Ghz band, connected with N at 300 megabits, good signal strength. Disabled mixed mode on this band, enabled N-only.Use a scanner tool, I can tell that there are no other networks on 5Ghz band. Also, tried 2.4 Ghz band and got similiar low speeds. These transfer rates are much below what other people report for real-world throughput. Any ideas? I know there is an Advanced Wireless config page, is there a setting there that might work if adjusted?
i have a newly formatted (i.e. empty) 2TB WD my book elite which when i connect it to my computers usb port, can transfer a 6gb video file at over 100MB/s according to the win 7 detail box. However, when i connect it to the usb port on the back of the e4200 and try to transfer the same file, it only goes at 8MB/s max ... it appears to be going at usb 1 speed. i've got the latest firmware on both the e4200 and the my book 1111 and everything seems to be working fine for both, except this transfer rate when connected to the e4200.granted, cisco doesn't specifically list this drive as being tested, but the router does recognize it and shows it as usb 2.0, but yet the transfer speed is just too slow.8MB/s is just not workable...i could just connect the drive directly to the computer and share it that way, but connecting it to the e4200 was one of the reasons i bought the e4200.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have cable @ 15Mbps down, 2Mbps up. The cable line comes into the crawl space in my daylight basement. I have 3 Cat-5 cables running through the house. 1 to the TV downstairs, and then 1 each to 2 bedrooms on the second floor (one of which is my home office). In the home office, this Cat-5 is connected to a 24-port switch. I plug my printer, NAS, computers, etc into this switch.I have a WRT54G2 v1 that I was using as my Router/AP.I have a 1st & 3rd generation iPad. The iPad 3 plays YouTube videos in HD. About 6 weeks ago I started to get slow YouTube video playback on my iPad's. They would play a few seconds, then pause to buffer, etc. It used to be that videos started playing almost immediately and would never buffer.
Using Wifi Analyzer for Android, I noticed my neighborhood is saturated with 2.4Ghz wifi. So, I figured it must be that the 2.4Ghz band is saturdated and if I moved to a 5Ghz band, the YouTube buffering would be fixed. So, I purchased an E4200 (v1 I think) from Amazon. I bought this Router/AP because it supported the 5Ghz band. It also I connected it to my cable modem and setup everything. Still slow YouTube, and now YouTube videos are slow on my laptop (connected via ethernet). I still get ~15Mbps over ethernet or wifi using the speed test page provided by my ISP, but YouTube videos are VERY slow.
Just upgraded my E4200 to firmware 1.0.03 (from 1.0.01). I have some new issues, questions, and some outstanding issues.
1) Web interface over https is now painfully slow.
2) Does DDNS work in bridge mode? DynDNS allows the sending of an update without an IP address, so it should be able to work.
3) Does accessing the management interface in bridge mode count as local or remote?
4) I'd really like to be able to get WOL working through the router. I managed to create a static DHCP reservation for 192.168.1.254 to ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff, but I don't think the router added that entry to the ARP table, is there any way to do this.
(I think have WOL forwarded to 192.168.1.254). 5) Should the router be providing some local dns hostnames? For example I have the device name set up in the local network setup, but it won't resolve. Similar for connected devices, especially those with with a DHCP reservation. 6) In bridge mode, does it matter which port is used to connect to the other network device? Does it have to be the WAN port?
Im trying to optimize my E4200 settings and Ive noted that ping and download speeds are extremely slow for the internet service I signed up for. Ping speeds are consistently more than 1000ms and dowload speeds typically are less than 3Mbps. These are for both wireless and wired connections to the E4200 router.
When I disconnect the router and hardwire my laptop directly to the the modem, ping speeds are less than 100ms and download speeds are 20Mbps.
Simply put, webpage loading is at a snails pace with wireless and wired connection the router, but blazing fast when hardwired directly to the modem.
On a seperate issue, the iMac I have is also **bleep** slow even when hardwired directly to the modem. Is there an obvious router setting Im screwing up? Router is updated with the latest software.
I have the E4200 with latest firmware . When I connect my computer to the E4200 and that to my modem im getting about 50mb speed. If I disconnect the E4200 and connect my computer straight to the modem I get about 95mb speed?I have the Virgin Broadband 100mb service and all is working fine at their end.

When I connect my netbook to the network it gets 0.7mbps on speedtest.net, when I use my girlfriends laptop it gets 16+mbps. I have tried everything, I am at my whits end. I have updated my firmware, updated windows to the the limit and reset the settings on my router. If I connect my netbook directly to the router I get 20+ but wireless is 0.7 and upload speed stays the same. I am using an HP Mini 210-2000 with windows 7 starter, I have updated it to service pack 1 and have all the windows based drivers installed. I have not tested it on another wireless network to see if it gets the same terrible connection. I don't know if its something with my computer, windows 7 starter, or the way my computer talks to the router
View 3 Replies View RelatedI saw one post recommending to changing the MTU from 1500 to 1400. That did absolutely nothing. My comcast internet is now slower than 14.4 dial up modem I had 16 years ago. The strange thing is I can sometimes download at over 2 mbps with torrents. It's mainly loading websites where the speed is so bad.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased a Cisco E4200 to replace my D-LINK DIR-655, which I thought was defective because I was getting slow wirless file transfer speed, regardless of setting, location and client.Using the E4200, when I transfer a file from a PC to another, both connected at 300mb on the 2.4ghz band, the file transfer rate reported by windows 7 and networx is from 2MB/s to 3.5MB/s. I think those transfer rates are not acceptable. Is that a good assumption ? I would expect something in the range of 10MB/s (which is what I get with a cheap dlink router, wired)
I also had great difficulty finding a channel. I had to try them all one-by-one as the auto channel selection made my PCs connect at 130mb.The E4200 is setup as follows:
-WPA-Personal
-Channel 5
-802.11n only
I have tried 3 different computers with different network adapters and they all underperform (IMO..).There are no other wireless networks in my area.I also took the E4200 to my office which is very crowed. Every single channel is occupied by several wireless networks. I get a file transfer speed PC to PC of about 2MB.I basically could have kept my DIR-655 as the speeds are identical.
So recently my wireless speed on my desktop had dropped considerably. I have a 3Mb/s connection, but I am getting speeds ranging from 0.2-0.5Mb/s in speed tests(Actual Mega bits, not Bytes). Last week I set a static IP so that I could do some port forwarding. I don't exactly remember what day I did the static IP, and what day it started going slow, but this is my prime suspect. All of the other computers on the network are running at full steam. I even changed the settings on my wireless adapter back to obtain IP/DNS automatically, but the problem still persists.
I am using a TP-Link wireless USB adapter with up-to-date drivers. [URL]. I already had the ports forwarded in my router. I reformatted my PC a few weeks back and finally got around to setting the static IP again. The forwards were saved already in the router, I just set the IP to the one I had used before.
I have an Asus RT_N12 that works great(12-20mbps) hardwired. It also has a "excellent" connection when connected wirelessly but slows down to 50Kbps.I have restarted/started, reset(all multiple times). I contacted ASUS customer support they told me bad router or firmware update. I updated firmware same thing took the router back and exchanged router. Same problem. I then went into router settings and changed from "Auto" to channel,1,2,3,4,etc. No luck. My buddy that is a "Tech expert" says that since I live in high density(12 unit) apt building someone has something interfering. My only problem with that is I used to live in a 48 unit building with wi fi supplied by the building and never had this problem.

They are connected wireless (distance is about 10 mt, signal is good).PS3 ip is in DMZ (connection doesn't work with only Upnp), and ip fragmentation is enabled.Everything seems to work (NAT type 2), but downloading on PS3 is extremely slow. My ADSL is a 6Mb, download speed on PS3 seems like more than ten times lower (I don't know how to test it..). Plus, downloading a 100 MB patch is almost impossile, cause sooner or later I get an error and i have to restart. Two of my PCs are connected wireless, so I guess wi-fi is not the problem.
View 3 Replies View RelatedDownload speeds, per speedtest.net and speakeasy, are about 20mbps.When the speed test gets to the upload part, it usually hangs or takes a long time before giving me a result of about 0.04mbps. Basically, it's so slow, it sometimes just gives up and times out. This translates into a real shoddy internet experience because something as simple as choosing airline tickets requires your computer to "upload" your choices. And of course, if that doesn't happen within a certain amount of time... Timeout! I have tested the connection without my Netgear FVS336G Dual WAN router in the way and it is much better so I'm certain it's the router. When I tell the router to use WAN 2, which is where my AT&T DSL connection is on, the upload works just fine (about .4 mbps - I'm provisioned at 512kbps so it's fine). Also, this is the case on ALL computers on the network - wired, wireless, PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, you name it. So, it's definitely not device specific.
