In our area Comcast has increased the internet speed to 50mb. I have a six year old WRT54GL. Can this router pass 50mb through to the computer on a wired connection?

If I disconnect the E4200 and connect my computer straight to the modem I get about 95mb speed?I have the Virgin Broadband 100mb service and all is working fine at their end.

View 3 Replies View Relatedam having speed issues on the wireless side of my WRT54GL v1.1 router.When I hook up a laptop to the wired port, am getting roughly 5.4mps down when wired, but only 1.2mpbs down on wireless. I am tried doing a factory restore. I have made sure that no QoS is in place. I have tried multiple devices to make sure it is not something on the device side causing this problem, but all the devices perform just as poorly on wireless but as well on wired.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWe have almost identical networks in two offices, with the only difference being, one uses an RV042 and the other an RV082.The setup is: two WAG54GS ADSL modems carry PPOA ADSL connections with static IPs to the two WAN ports of the RV0XX.The WAG54GS routers are configured to DMZ all incoming traffic to the relevant WAN IP of the RV0XXs. VPN pass-through is also set on them. The RV0XX port forwarding is set to forward a selection of traffic such as, PPTP, HTTP, HTTPS, RDP, POP3, SMTP and Remote Desk to the external adapter of an SBS 2003 server which processes all operations including ISA and Exchange.Mail for Exchange arrive through both ADSL connections for redundancy. VPN connection requests from remote users to the SBS come in through both ADSL connections.The office fitted with RV042 works fine and does all the following without problems.The office fitted with RV082 has issues. Remote VPN requests comming from ADSL to WAN port 1 of the RV082 connect successfully to the SBS2003 server, but the VPN requests coming from ADSL to WAN port 2 fail to connect! Similarly, incoming mail destined for Exchange don't get through if coming from ADSL of WAN port 2.I have updated the firmware on both RV042 and RV082, but the RV082 still has the above issues.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an E2000 Wireless N Router setup to use WPA2/AES. I have Comcast cable internet service and I just upgraded to the 50Mbps speed. I have a Motorola Surfboard modem (DOCSIS 3.0).
If I connect my computer directly to the modem or to one of the ports on the E2000 I get great speeds sometimes up to 60Mbps but on average I am getting 45-48Mbps which is acceptable.
When I try to connect the same computer to the E2000 wirelessly my speed tests return a horrible 18-22Mbps. When I run these tests the computer is in the same room as the router. As I move throughout my house the speed tests are the same. My wireless connection speed to my laptop is good 144Mbps and 300Mbps depending on the band (2.4 or 5.0).
I have tried to use the 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz using different channels. I have also tried different "N Transmission Rate" settings. One of them (5 - 52Mpbs) does increase the speed to around 25-26Mpbs but that is all.
Strangely (or maybe not) the upload speeds are consistent on all of the tests at around 12Mpbs.
I am using Speedtest.net and Speakeasy for all of my tests.
Is there anyway I can get my wireless download speed up to around 40Mpbs? Or am I going to have to run cables through my house to the devices where I need these high speeds?
I also have upgraded to the latest firmware version.(1.0.04)
I recently had to unplug my Linksys WRT54GL wireless router when doing some rearranging and now i'm unable to get a internet connection. I've confirmed the modem is actually working by connecting my laptop directly (which worked), but when I connect the Linksys WRT54GL wireless router to my modem the internet connection goes away. The connection is lost when connected via wireless and hardwired to one of the back ports. I've tried resetting the modem, router and computer and read every forum out there trying to find something, but i'm still stuck.

Both routers are set to provide DHCP.DSL modem: Verizon Westell Wirespeed B90-210015-04 I have no idea whether this modem is also a router, but everything used to work. OS: Windows 7 Professional N x64, SP1 My computer has two ethernet ports, but only one is in use at a time. I also have VMWare Workstation installed, so there are a couple virtual adapters in the mix, but VMWare is not running during any of these tests.Yesterday (Sat, 10-Mar-2012) I replaced my old router (A) with the new one (B). The A router has been working fine for many years; I just needed wireless access. After the initial setup, the B router worked fine, using hard lines connected to the switch ports, and the wireless access features (laptop and Android phone) - for about a day. It suddenly dropped the internet connection early this afternoon, Sun, 11-Mar-2012, ~1220hrs PDT. I heard it go out because I was streaming NPR at the time.Using the B router, my desktop computer (connected via a wire) can still talk to my laptop (wireless), but neither of them can see the internet.When I swap back to the A router (wires only), it now has no internet connection either! But the desktop and the laptop (both wired) can still see each other via the (wired) router.When I remove the router from the network and connect the DSL modem directly to my desktop computer, I have internet access; it works fine! But not if a router is in the circuit.
(1) Router B seems to work because my wired desktop and my wireless laptop can communicate locally.
(2) Router A still works because my desktop and laptop can communicate with each other using a wired network hosted by the A router.
(3) The DSL modem seems to work because my desktop has internet access when connected directly to the modem.
(4) Neither of the routers can communicate with the internet through the DSL modem.
I spent an hour in a chat with Verizon tech support. I've power-cycled everything. I've reset both routers to default specs and reconfigured them. I've reset the DSL modem via its button. I've used different cables. It appears that neither of the routers can successfully communicate through the DSL modem to the internet. But they both used to. Why would it just suddenly stop connecting through the modem?

I just got my fathers old linksys WRT54GL. I Have resat everything, and made my own name, password etc.When i try to connecet, i can get on the network, but there's no internet connection. Even when i put an ethernet cable between, it does the same. i have internet connection when i connect directly to the router though.

I upgraded my Internet speed with my ISP to 60Mbit/s and I get following download results at speedtest.net:Is there a way to speed up my wireless connection with this router? On the sticker it says 54Mbps, so I would guess it should be possible.
I've had my WRT54GL for a few months now and have two computers that are wired and 3 that are wireless. I started having problems with conflicting IP's a couple days ago on one of my wired computers which was set for auto DHCP so I changed the settings and made it a static IP, this is when the problem started. I have Network Magic on all computers and even though it says I'm connected to the internet and the network, I am not able to get online. My other wired computer has been on Static IP for months and works fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSince buying and using this router about 1 month ago, I've had latency problems. With my Linksys WRT54GL, my latency has always been consistent. However, pinging to google (as a benchmark), my ping is a good 50-70 higher than directly plugging into my router. Directly into my modem I get 10-20ms pings; through the router, I get minimum 60ms up to 100ms spikes. When using the Linksys router, my ping would be 20-30s. I really hope it's just a settings problem. I've turned off QoS and wireless to isolate the connection to just wired, but it still persists. I really hope I can fix this problem, else I am going to buy a different router over the weekend. I can't play FPS games like Bad Company 2 with such high latency.

I guess I want it to act as a wireless NIC for the desktop while also operating as a repeater. Is this possible? If not, will one of the other AP settings like Bridge allow the wired connection to connect to the other side of the network and give wireless access to wireless devices? I've hacked up and attached one of Linksys's diagrams to show what I'm trying to do. It seems to me the easiest thing to do would be to buy a wireless NIC for the desktop.
I have a problem with my download speed. I'm supposed to have a speed of 60 MBPS and when I collect my computer direct to the modem I received it but with my e2000 router, the 3 computer connected to it can't reach more than 30 MBPS. I just updated the firmware of the router to the newest version but nothing changed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just now installed a new EA4500 Router. It installed itself automatically without a problem, by running the setup CD. No devices other than my hard wired computer and modem are connected yet.
When I went into Start > Cisco Connect to look around and check it's version, etc., I immediately got a "There's an important update for your router" notice. My concern is not wanting to install The Cloud at this time (although I wouldn't rule it out later). There has not been a trace of it so far.
I currently have Firmware Version: 2.0.36.126507 and Software Version: 1.4.12100.0. What this Important Update may be? Is it the "dreaded" Cloud? I'd rather avoid the whole rolling back to pre-Cloud issue for now, if possible.
We have a new 50/10MB Comcast Deluxe connection we are trying to set up in our environment. We have a single static IP and the Comcast provided SMC-3DG router/modem has been set to "bridge mode" by Comcast. This is then plugged into one of the interfaces and that interface has the static IP defined on it with a default route to the Comcast provided gateway IP. I wired the 2851 into our layer 3 switch, set up some static routes on the 2851 back to our existing subnets and everything traffic-wise is flowing between our existing subnets and this new router.
Since the default route on our layer 3 switch is defaulted to our older 2811 router (that I'm intending on replacing with this 2851), I set up a static route on our layer 3 switch to guide all traffic for speedtest.net and comcast.speedtest.net out to the 2851 router. Doing speed tests show 12 MB down, .5 MB up. Connecting a laptop directly to the Comcast SMC modem and setting it's IP to the static IP shows full speeds again, so the issue has to be with our configuration/equipment.
Can a Cisco 2851 support this 50mb Comcast connection and do I just have it configured wrong? Or do I need a different router altogether? At first I tried the 2811 but that had slow speeds, so I figured the 2851 with twice the throughput would do a better job but for some reason it is not currently. I have played with duplex settings (100, full, half, auto) and nothing changed. I updated the 2851 to the latest 12.4 firmware and also no change.
I have a WAP54G in my basement shop, wired to our main router upstairs, which is a Linksys BEFSR81. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the WAP or the router.
I only use the laptop computer in the shop every couple of days, but I leave the laptop plugged in and on most of the time. I used to have the power settings such that it didn't power down completely even after a long time. With that setup, if i didn't use the computer for several days, it would find that the connection to the router had died. The wireless link would report that it had a solid connection, but I couldn't connect to anything. Power cycling the WAP always fixed this.
Recently, I decided to save some wear & tear on the laptop drive, and adjusted the power settings to go to standby after a couple of hours. Now, it seems I can't even go one day without losing my connection.
I am running the latest frimware in the WAP, and the router is version 3.1. I can't check the firmware version on the router at the moment, because the web interface is giving me a blank screen. I know from past experience that I will have to power cycle it to get it to talk to me again.
In any event, it seems like the router connection to the WAP is timing out. I set the router "client lease time" up to 10000 a while back when I first had this problem, but that is clearly not doing the trick.
I am using a Windows 7 machine and I'm pretty sure the ethernet cable that I'm using is functional, considering that I'm using it to connect to the Internet right now.I've been trying to get my router going for a while now and I'm pretty sure I've tried everything that the internet has advised. I've screwed around with the card speed, 10 mbps Half Duplex didn't work or anything. I've manually set the IP and related stuff to 192.168.1.x and the works. I've tried to manually run the setup, although that definitely didn't work considering that my computer can't even detect the dang router. I've screwed around with the wiring and restarted my router and modem constantly.

I have a very unusual issue though.
I can connect my iphone and Xbox wirelessly through my router with no issues on their side. However, any time I do so, it kills my wired connection on my PC. I'm not doing huge downloads or P2P or anything like that. In fact, the speed drops immediately on my PC the moment I connect my phone to the wireless network regardless of what i'm doing on the phone (checking email or loading a webpage).
I have an E1200 acting soley as an AP. Everything works just fine, but when I try to copy files from one wired computer(both Windows 7) to another one on the same router(the E1200 in this case), the network utilization is only about 4%. If I take one of the computers off its wired connection and make it wireless, the utilization goes up to about 50%. Also if I take one of the compuyters off this router, and make a wired connection to my main router(which is connected via a wired connection to the E1200), the network utilization goes up to 50%.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys E1550 Wireless Router that is fast as can be on the wired connection, getting 30mbs from the cable modem connection. If I switch to using wireless on the same PC, the max connection speed I'll get is 2mbs. I've changed all sorts of settings trying to get this working right, and it still stays at 2mbs.As an additional note, this router was previously working fine at 30mbs on wireless as well, then out of nowhere this weekend, it started running at 2mbs. I went and purchased another of the same model and it is doing the same thing as well.
What is the secret to having this run at it's correct speed, not this slow 2mbs that it is now? I have configured this the same as every other Linksys router I've had in the past, and it is running horribly slow..I'm on the newest firmware as well, have already verified that. The old router was updated to newest firmware as testing to resolve this, and the new router came with it installed already.
I have the WRT54G router for years and use it to provide both a wireless network for our home computers and a wired network for by internet phone that connects me to my office phone system and for my work computer and printer. Last week, the wired network stopped working. I checked the wiring and plugged my wire into all four of the ports in the back of the router with no success. I followed the troubleshooting procedure that I found and changed the MTU setting. I tried to update the firmware but the screen seemed to lock up and I was unable to complete the task.

After determining that my cable modem was connected and working correctly, I pulled the e3000 and put my old wrv54g router in place. Wireless worked, but all wired connections showed link but no other apparent connectivity. Neither of my desktops could get a DHCP lease.
At that point, I purchased and manually installed a new e4200 router. All worked fine. Both laptops connected via wireless and both desktops via my house LAN. Until this morning (Monday). Wireless is working just fine, but both wired computers show 100 Mbs connections on an unknown network with no DHCP. Checking status shows packets going out, but nothing coming in. Checking LAN status on the router shows that both ports are connected, but it does not appear to receive anything from either desktop. All was fine last night. Oh, the router is on 1.0.03 firmware.
I have tried about everything I can think of. Configurations both on the router and the desktops (one Windows XP, 64 bit and one Windows 7) and all seems fine. I have disabled and reenabled the network connectors, rebooted both the router and the computers, etc. Nothing seems to work.
I have a problem with my new router. I connected't my iMac (27" 2010) and NAS Synology 1511. My problem is the slow connection between mac and router - only 100Mbit (ethernet port on mac is 1Gbit), strange thing... my NAS have 1Gbit with no problem, and the mac is not. I trying manual configure - forcing speed to 1Gbit, but then is no connection at all. I'm also trying changing wires, but no change. Im buying special ethernet cable cat 6 - also no change. Changing ports on router - result the same.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just had Comcast setup my internet and it is really fast. 30 down, 10 up, 40 ping, my connection to my computer (wireless) is very fast and my online gaming (wired) is not laggy at all.The problem lies with the connection dropping when I am online gaming. I connected directly to the modem and there's no problem at all. I connect to my Linksys EA3500 and once I start playing in an online game, I disconnect from Xbox Live and am dropped from the game... anywhere from right away until about 10-15 minutes into the game. This is the only time where my connection falters at all, otherwise it is great. But I play online a lot, and competitively, so I obviously need a stable connection.I have not had this issue with my previous ISP in New York, Time Warner and that connection was much worse. I'm thinking it must be a setting on the router that is causing this, but I can't pinpoint what. I tried automatic AND static connections from my xbox to the router. On the static connection, I even put a DMZ on it, but to no avail.
