I recently built a new computer and it runs a wired connection. I was having problems with dns dropping.until i set static ip and dns. But now whenever my computer is on my router doesn't broadcast a wireless signal and none of my devices can connect to wireless until I turn off my computer. The router is a linksys wrt54g2

I presently have a WRT54G2 wireless-G router and have configured it to an IP address that works with my AT&T(Bellsouth) broadband modem (Westell). When I reconnect it to my new computer, should I first just connect the ethernet cable to the modem as if I don't have a router (like I did for years) and then go into the instructions for setting up the router via the DVD but enter the IP address as I have it working now?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using the WRT54G2 connected to a cable modem that requires a PPPoE login. I followed the Service Providers instructions and cloned the modems MAC address to the WRT54G and setup the PPPoE user id and password. I can then plug my PC into one of the Ethernet connections on the back of the WRT54G and everything works as expected. First I connect to the WRT54G2 and then I open a PPPoE connection in my network settings and it logs into the service provider and everything works as expected. But when I connect to the WRT5G2 wirelessly I connect to the AP fine. When I open the same PPPoE connection to the service provider it fails, the message says I have the wrong userid or password or that the protocol is not supported. Of course I know the userid and password is correct because it works when connected with Ethernet cable. I have tried disabling the security on the wireless network but that did not seem to work.The modem is a HomePNA HCNA Voice Endpoint.I am at the latest firmware 1.0.04.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy WRT54G2 v1 does not automatically connect to the internet on computer start-up. The computer will say "Connected, No Internet Access" In order to fix it I have to unplug the router and then plug it back in. This happens to any computer that tries to get online from a cold start-up. The router must always be unplugged, then plugged back in, then it will have internet access (and will generally maintain it throughout the session and even if the computer is restarted, i.e. warm boot). I have downloaded the latest firmware uprade.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've lost connectivity with all but one of the ethernet ports on my E4200 router. My desktop PC was connected to Port 1 but stopped working. Network troubleshooting via my Windows 7 Dell 8300 said I was not connected and to check the cable. I did that with several different cables and tried the usual router and modem reset. Only through trial and error did I find that I could connect to port 4 which is why I am able to write this post. What could have changed to disable ports 1-3 and can I get them working again? No issues with wireless connectivity.

I also just bought a Linksys Valet Plus M20 that will be my router once I get it in the mail. The problem is I want to hook up my downstairs Satellite receiver to the internet but it only has a LAN port. I cannot run a LAN cable downstairs. Is there any way to link these routers up wirelessly and then run a LAN cable to my SAT receiver? Or do I need to buy a different product?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just now installed a new EA4500 Router. It installed itself automatically without a problem, by running the setup CD. No devices other than my hard wired computer and modem are connected yet.
When I went into Start > Cisco Connect to look around and check it's version, etc., I immediately got a "There's an important update for your router" notice. My concern is not wanting to install The Cloud at this time (although I wouldn't rule it out later). There has not been a trace of it so far.
I currently have Firmware Version: 2.0.36.126507 and Software Version: 1.4.12100.0. What this Important Update may be? Is it the "dreaded" Cloud? I'd rather avoid the whole rolling back to pre-Cloud issue for now, if possible.
Yesterday my wireless internet just appeared to stop working completely, it has always worked fine up unti now!I have checked all the usual issues, it is nothing to do with my router as i can use other laptops/desktops to access the internet fine.I am using a Pavillion DV6-1215sa which has a Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter.It has full strenght but just says Limited Connectivity, so it is picking up the wireless network but wont actually let me connect to the internet via it.
I am able to access the internet when i hard wire the ethernet cable into my laptop, but the just wont work for wireless.I have tried lots of different suggestions so far, but still cannot access the internet.
In our area Comcast has increased the internet speed to 50mb. I have a six year old WRT54GL. Can this router pass 50mb through to the computer on a wired connection?

I am with Virgin media (UK) and have the 20mbps fiber optic connection. My area has recently been having problems with the broadband and Virgin has recently fixed these problems. However I used to get around 19mbps now that the problem is fixed my computer which is wired to the router gets about 0.4mbps downstream... However the 5 wireless computers all get 16mbps which is pretty good for them. Windows tells me that its a firewall issue and I currently can't use two programs, spotify and steam. They both have firewall issues, even if I turn off my firewall which is the windows one. I also have avast, and when I turn that off, still no good. I used OpenDNS, stopped using that flushed my DNS, that didnt work. I tried to optimize my computer settings, by changing various values in Regedit.All of this has done nothing. I should add that I have recently re-installed Windows 7 so on this fresh install it has never had decent internet speed. Which I thought was weird.. I have basically had these problems since the fresh install. All of my drivers are up to date.

During the power on and all the test the led is flashing in various colors pretty ipnotizing :-) When it bacame operative, the led stops. If i issue the test led flashing console command it works.

Last week, the wired network stopped working. I checked the wiring and plugged my wire into all four of the ports in the back of the router with no success. I followed the troubleshooting procedure that I found and changed the MTU setting. I tried to update the firmware but the screen seemed to lock up and I was unable to complete the task.

after year and a half of using TL-WR741 ND router, it suddenly stop working during the night. I have no problems with router before this happened (I think only one or two reset in 1 year and 6 months). System led light does not flash (some sytem error) and I can't access to 192.168.1.1 router setup site. I tried almost everything, unplug power, reset etc. for almost 100 times, reconnect the router with modem and PC in all posible ways, but still can't establish connection or even access to router's setup. Obviusly internet works fine?
After an hour on the phone with the Linxys support people I'm feeling like I've been scammed.I have a 2 year old, almost to the day, Linxys Wireless-N Broadband Router, model # WRT160NVZ, which decided to stop working today. I contacted Linxys support and was told since it is 2 years old it's no longer under warranty, ok. If I choose I can pay for a service call and the tech may be able to fix the router, no guarantee. I had another option to purchase a service plan but again no guarantee repairing the router. My third option was to purchase a brand new wireless router for a discounted price, if I chose this option the tech would attempt to repair the router at no charge. I expressed my concern that it would take a few days to receive the new router and what would I do while waiting. I was then assured the router I have now could be repaired and would be able to hold me over until I received the new router.So I chose the 3rd option purchasing a M20 wireless router to be shipped to me within 3 days. After providing my credit card number and billing/shipping address the technician was now able to work with me in trying to repair the current router. He had me access the Linxys website, he instructed me in resetting the router and resetting the settings for it on the website and PRESTO, my 2 year old router now works again.but feel that this is a scam, programmed in the router to occur within 2 years of purchasing where the settings entered no longer work but once changed works perfectly well.
View 6 Replies View RelatedFew days ago the wireless in my son's Dell Inspiron 620 went bad. It does connect to my old router (WEP), but speed is terrible and connection goes bad after some time. I can also see my modern router and enter the key successfully (WPA2), but it won't connect. Connection to both routers went well for months before, and still goes well from all other devices in the house.
I read the issue with McAfee that was posted late August and followed the steps. Connection in safe mode didn't work. Then I removed McAfee from the PC, no difference. Then I restored the PC to a couple of days before the issues began, removed McAfee again (as it came back through the restore), no difference.
I reinstalled the drivers of the Dell wireless card, no difference.
I am using a Windows 7 machine and I'm pretty sure the ethernet cable that I'm using is functional, considering that I'm using it to connect to the Internet right now.I've been trying to get my router going for a while now and I'm pretty sure I've tried everything that the internet has advised. I've screwed around with the card speed, 10 mbps Half Duplex didn't work or anything. I've manually set the IP and related stuff to 192.168.1.x and the works. I've tried to manually run the setup, although that definitely didn't work considering that my computer can't even detect the dang router. I've screwed around with the wiring and restarted my router and modem constantly.

This includes my laptops, iphone, ps3 and other desktop. However, if I or anyone else connected to the router had a stream running on youtube, a file that is downloading, a game running online or voicechat with ventrillo, nothing happens to those processes. I just can't start a new download, or open a new tab, or start anything that requires internet connection.I've tried using different browsers, I've tried updating my computer, using different ports both on my computer and the router, shutting off all my firewalls, factory resetting my router and nothing works.I've narrowed the problem down to an issue with my computer as this would never happen to any other or device. This problem ONLY happens when I surf the web or view/open websites.The only way I can fix the problem is by walking up to my router and restarting the router (the router only) and waiting a minute for my computer to reconnect.I've noticed that the router stops working when I go to sites or links that have on screen popups of flash or java. we have two desktop Pc's both hard wired to a Linksys router. One P.C is on Windows 7 system the other is on Vista. The windows 7 is connecting O.K. The one on Vista is showing " Does not have a wireless network adaptor, install & configure. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Century Link DSL connection in my house and its working fine. I just got a new Linksys BEFSR41 v.3. I am trying to set it up for my PC, Xbox360 and BD player. Everything works fine when I plug them in to the DSL modem 1 by 1 but when I try to put the Linksys "in the middle"... nothing... So I'm pretty sure its not my DSL modem or connection.All the lights come up on the Linksys as they should (power, internet and the Ethernet) but for some reason it seems the internet not getting trought the router. When its connected and I pull up my internet browser I type 192.168.1.1 and it takes me to the linksys config site. Without the router in the same address go to the Westell site as thats my DSL modem. Everything looks fine on the config site. All the correct IP, MAC, DNS address are there and still no internet access on any of my device.
