My router was working just fine forever, the only computer that will connect VIA wire is my desktop, everything else for it to connect to my network it has to go wireless. Things like my blu ray player just will not connect. I am not an expert at all, but why is only the wireless working? I can use the Cisco connect and adjust the settings if need be.

I can still go online using my laptop via wifi, but when I connect a network cable to the laptop and turn off wi fi, connection does not work. View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased an e4200 about 6 months ago and it worked great until the other night the Internet stopped working on my laptop (wireless). I tried unplugging both my modem (Motorola Surfboard) and router and plugging them back in, but no luck. I can accesss the Internet when plugged directly into the router (with both my PC and laptop), so it looks like the issue is with the e4200. To make matters worse (and I fear much worse), I can't even access the admin page to the router through either the Cisco Connect software or through the IP address. I've tried resetting it, I've tried the 30/30/30 reset (holding the reset button while doing an unplug and pluging back in), and reinstalling the Cisco Connect software, all to no avail.
I've found threads where others have not been able to access the admin page, but they still had access to the Internet url... I haven't found a similar thread where the router doesn't seem to work at all. A few other bits of information I can think of (let me know if there's other information I can provide):The Cisco logo light flashes slowly after reset which I believe is expected.The lights in back of the router seem to work as intended.Running Windows 7 Diagnostics finds the connection "doesn't have a valid IP configuration" and "The default gateway is not available."
My E4200 router no longer accepts any WIRED connections. I can connect from the modem to the computer and everything works as expected. I can connect other computers wirelessly to the router. I cannot connect any laptops WIRED to the router. Nothing has changed on the systems to restrict internet access. There is something wrong with the router and the WIRED ports. I tried going through the troubleshooting on this site but it was of little to no assistance. The Cisco Connect utility doesn't appear to accomplish anything either. My guess is because I cannot connect to the WIRED ports on the router to connect to the internet to allow for whatever troubleshooting that needs to be done.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the WRT54G router for years and use it to provide both a wireless network for our home computers and a wired network for by internet phone that connects me to my office phone system and for my work computer and printer. Last week, the wired network stopped working. I checked the wiring and plugged my wire into all four of the ports in the back of the router with no success. I followed the troubleshooting procedure that I found and changed the MTU setting. I tried to update the firmware but the screen seemed to lock up and I was unable to complete the task.

We bought a new E4200 to replace our old Linksys router which no one knows the admin pw to. We have four switches for 50 connections throughout the four story house and when switching the connections over to the new E4200 all of the wired connections no longer work. Switch back to the old router and presto. How do I need to change the settings with the E4200 to get it to work?
Also, as it's a thick old house the E4200's wireless only covers maybe half of it...I purchased two wireless repeaters to put on the 3rd and 4th floors, are these simple to install with the router?
I have an E4200 router & am trying to get it to work with ATV2 through HomeSharing & iTunes. It works fine when my PC is wireless & the ATV2 is wireless. BUT, when the ATV2 is wired via ethernet & the PC is wireless -- nothing!

I posted my complaint on Amazon.com recently. My E4200 router stopped allowing traffic through ports completely. I was able to unplug the power and allow the router to cool, and the router would work for a while then stop after about 10 minutes. I assume that the unit was overheating, but I do not have the equipment of a test facility.I bought a Belkin AC 1200 router which is a bit of an upgrade from Amazon.com. I do not think that there is anything that Linksys can do for me as my warranty expired. I just thought that when I spent what was to me a lot of money the router should have lasted longer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI purchased and set-up the EA4500 on Thursday. Friday my ISP (Charter) was out and worked on connection for over 2 hours due to slowness issues. Connected directly to modem I get normal ping times on whichever computer is connected. When I get the computer connected by the router (hard wired) I get very long ping responses up to 900ms. They are all over the place 30ms (I can live with that), up to the 900's. I contacted Linksys support last night, who had me update to the cloud firmware and change MT U to 1300, have not noticed a difference. I did end up doing a hard reset on the router last night after I lost tech support. We were disconnected with router rebooted, and I didn't have the patience to connect again last night.

I have an e2000 wireless router and have several devices connected by ethernet cable including private data on an external hard drive. I am planning to allow a tenant in another building connect via an ethernet cable connected to my router. Can I limit that computer (tenant's computer) from accessing all other devices connected by ethernet cable to my router? I know can password protect wireless access and limit access to the internet that way -- but my question is specifically to connections by ethernet cable.

I used another computer to hook up with the ethernet cable because that wouldn't work wireless for some reason. A little while after that, the Linksys network stopped working completely(all three computers could not access the internet). Now I can only connect to the internet if I use a ethernet cable from the modem.

I no longer saw my router listed in my available wireless networks, and neither could my girlfriend from her computer. I unplugged the router to see if one of the available networks had disappeared in case my router had somehow been reset, and nothing changed so my computer isnt even seeing my router. Right now, I am wired through the router so I know the router works, but the wireless part doesnt for some reason. I was looking up stuff in the FAQ, and think the firmware is corrupted since the LEDs are all blinking. I was trying to update my firmware following the instructions I found using tftp.exe, however it failed. One problem is that I can't set up a static IP address since I need to access the web-based utility to check my DNS server but I cannot access the web-based utility anymore (maybe cause of the corrupted firmware?). On a related note, there is someone else in my building using a linksys with the default network name of linksys. I had changed my network's name and security-protected it, though that is all likely gone now since I tried to reset the router. My question is what will the network name of my router be if I saw it since "linksys" is already taken. or will there just be two of them?

Came home after work last night and couldn't connect to the internet. Called Charter cable this morning and their troubleshooting showed I can connect to the internet fine if I bypass the router, so the issue must be with the router (and of course not their problem...). How do I trouble shoot this? I've tried powering down the router and releasing and renewing IP addresses but it hasn't worked.

It wouldn't make that much of a difference, but I already purchased a new LInksys Cisco EA3500, but I cannot get it to do my port forwarding. I have tried everything and nothing works. Have spent hours on the phone with tech support with no solution. My old WRT54GS just simply worked. The port forwarding worked perfect. I have tried the exact same setup in the new EA3500 and no luck no matter what I try.
So, is there anything I can do to get the old WRT54GS working? I have tried holding the reset button in for 1 minute and then unplugging it
My M20 Valet Plus stopped working suddenly last night. Now no power lights will come on and it now longer transmitts as a connection point . No apparent sign that it's alive. I've owned it troublefree for just over a year, but it is out of warranty. Any way to tell if there is hope of reviving it or if I'm just out of luck? Nothing happened at my end to cause this -- no power interruptions or other odd occurrences.

Then today my computer shut down and when I turned it back on there was a connection but my computer was not responding to any commands. The icon shows full connectivity excellent connection. When I try to go to a web page it shows Connection Error and cannot get to any web pages.I am able to get on other wireless connections from neighbors but not mine. I've tried connecting the modem directly to my Mac and it works just fine (that's how I'm sending this message now). But when the modem is connected to the router, I get no data. It connects to both the 5 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz networks, but it refuses to send data through the pipe. I've tried power cycling both the modem and the router to no avail.

It even appears to be doing this with a computer that is hardwired to one of the ports. So it doesn't seem limited to just wireless. Happens to both N and g channels as well.

For wireless it'll still show full signal and connection, but there will be no internet activity for about a minute. Then after a minute things will work just fine again. For wired I notice it in my XBox mainly when I get dropped from games as constant as the wireless drops.I believe my modem isn't the problem since the old router never dropped connections on the hard wired devices. Occasionally my old D-Link router would drop wireless, but never this frequent,I am running 1.0.02. I've rebooted the router/modem several times. I even reinstalled the entire setup with the current version of Cisco Connect as the tech person suggested, but still no luck. The first week or so using this router was flawless, but ever since then it's been dropping connections several times throughout the day to any device connected (wireless or wired). The problem seems that the router just hiccups the connection very quickly, so quickly that Windows doesn't even recognize the connection has been lost, but long enough to drop a multiplayer game on XBox or to have me mashing refresh on my internet browsers.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased a e4200 in hopes that its dual band capability would allow us to run a 2.4ghz network for certain devices and a 5ghz for everyone else. I am able to setup the router and connect but it seems when the 2.4ghz network drops the router drops all connections.
At first I had the networks setup with the same ssid, then changed the 5ghz network to a new ssid but was still losing connection when the 2.4ghz network dropped. This may be a simple routing issue i am overlooking (bit of a network newbie).
I just installed a brand new e4200 replacing my WRT54.Wireless works good with a noticable performance improvement over my old wireless.However, the wired conenctions are not solid at all. I am getting over 10% packet loss from the wired conenctions.I can not even connecct to the web ui reliably over wired connections.I upgraded to the latest firmware release with no real change at all.

I have an external drive connected to a mac mini which is shared on the network. When transferring folders to or from that external drive, our internet connection stops working until the transfer finishes, then comes back up. I've tested this in a variety of ways. Any transfer of data from shared folders in any combination of devices causes internet to stop working both on wired and wireless devices until the transfer is done, then they all work again. Router firmware: 1.0.03.

I had a number of problems with the unit disconnecting from wired and wireless connections erratically anywhere from 1/2 hr to 10 hrs. of operation. Troubleshoot thru Linksys chat. Ended up replacing router. Now I am having the same problem with replacement router. I've updated my windows XP, SP2, updated Ethernet driver and manually reconfigured router per Linksys advise. Wife and my laptops have N adapters, primary PC is wired in. It seems to disconnect all connections at same time, totally random. The only way to reconnect is to power down router for a few seconds and then power up.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo whenever i plug in my computers with an ethernet cord to my router i get an older, different ssid name displayed in local area connections instead of the one being displayed on the wireless network. For one computer it displays the old ssid name 3011, with a 2 right next to it (i think thats because i had another router with the same name), i changed the ssid twice, but when i plug it into the computer it still displays 3011 2. The other computer displays the first newer ssid but not the official one listed on the wireless network. Either way neither of my computers display the name i have as the ssid when plugged into the router with a cord. do i need to do something else so the names match? i reset the router and updated the firmware before writing this, it didnt do anything. i have windows 7 business for both machines.

Today i wanted to connect 2 wired computers to it via lan and whatever i do dosnt connect. Dosnt even let me acces the 192.168.1.1 page to router settings.I am on firmware 1.0.02, i also did a full reset and then did set up with cisco connect, did try that thing with the cisco usb connect and still no joy with the LAN conection.
One comp uses win 7 the other is on win xp. I can connect both comps succesfully to other router via the gigabit ports but not to this one.
I see on the control panel that there is MAC filtering for the wireless connections. I don't see a similar control panel for computers that are wired directly to the router. Where do I find this?
