my e4200 updated with latest 1.00.1 firmware is constantly dropping connections from the outside to existant lan servers running low traffic services when my machine is using torrent or internet gaming.( call of duty modern warfare )
View 9 Repliesmy E4200 is dropping connections several times a day. I'd be working on my laptop, go to a webpage and bang, no connection. A minute or so later it would reconnect. It even appears to be doing this with a computer that is hardwired to one of the ports. So it doesn't seem limited to just wireless. Happens to both N and g channels as well.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn the last three weeks I replaced a Linksys WRT54G wireless router with a new E2500. The only reason this was done because the store salesman indicated I should get much better performance over my router that was probably 5 years only.
Since the install I have had nothing but issues. I could never get on PC runing XP to connect. It worked one day and the next morning I could never get it to connect again. I even removed the encryption and went to WEP with no luck. My laptop that I loaded the software on and initially did the connection I didn't have an initial problem. The problem I now have is the wireless connection is constantly dropping. In the course of an hour the connection probably drops 3 to 4 times. If you leave the PC for several hours, you may need to sign of your user and resign in to get the wireless connection to work. This is an experiment gone bad. My old router never dropped a connection and every PC in the house stayed connected forever. This new router is located the same distance as my original one was, but is nothing but a series of failed connection.
I have gone through 2 of these routers now. The first time I was told I had a bad router so it was replaced. The problem is that it randomly disconnects all wireless devices. All I can do is wait for them to reconnect. I am very disappointed that I have not been able to find any solution to this problem. I have seen other posts for similar issuse but no resolution

I am getting over 10% packet loss from the wired conenctions.I can not even connecct to the web ui reliably over wired connections.I upgraded to the latest firmware release with no real change at all.

I have a brand new EA3500 (three months old) that has worked fine until recently. For some reason the wireless keeps dropping all connections every few minutes. I have checked the internet connection and that is not it as I can be hardwired to the router and the internet never drops. This happens to every device in the house (two Xbox, tablet, multiple PC's) at the same time, or randomly between. The devices are a mix of G and N so it is not associated with just one particular band. I have verified the wireless phone, microwave, or anything else that might interfere with the signal is running. One thing I have noticed is that when the wireless connection drops, the actual signal does not go away, I can still see it with a wifi analyzer. This is very frustrating as I just replaced a previous Linksys router with this one for the very same reason. Perhaps I should have bought some other manufacture.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI seem to all of a sudden be having some strange issues with my E4200. I am running Firmware Version: 1.0.05 . I am also using a Dlink DAP-1522 gigabit bridge. The main machines I am noticing the dropouts on are my main windows computer (connected to network via ethernet cable plugged into DAP-1522 bridge) and my wifes ipad. What happens is it drops connectin for about 3 minutes then comes right back. I am really perplexed as to what could be causing this. At first I would have thought it was a bridge issue but thats up to date and my wifes ipad dropping (which is connected via wifi) shows there is something else going on here.

So i got on the phone with cisco they determined the router was no good, mind you my laptop would connect wired. So they sent me a "refurbished" one, so i set it up. The new setup was wonky because it said the same message "Your connected to your router but..." then after trying to get the connection its self and failing it came up with "congratulations you are now connected to the internet". That lasted 3hrs and 45mins then died, so i went upstairs to power cycle it, it decided to connect with the old settings. That lased 25mins then died, so i reset it and reconfigured the router. Wouldnt connect, i checked my mac address and it was using my wireless one and kept turning on my wireless connection durring the install. So i cloned my wired mac address and got the internet for roughly an hour... then it died. So i reset it again and kept the wifi off got it going and decided to go to sleep. I wake up and its still working after 8hrs, i go down stairs with my tablet and i dies again. This time it refuses to reconnect, refuses to reset back up just doesnt want to work.

Then I can watch a few more minutes and it stops again. And again, and again......I have cable inernet service (Brighthouse Communications), with the E42000 connected to the cable modem. Then I have a Panasonic WiFi adaptor (DY-WL10) plugged into a USB port on my Panasonic Viera TV. I have the latest firmware on the router (1.3.03, build 14).I have done the routine of re-cycling the network by re-setting the router (and re-setting it up) and the modem.The chat session guys had me do the following:
1) Uncheck “Filter anonymous request”.
2) Click on Setup Tab - Here you will see MTU.
3) Select Manual & set the size to 1364
4) On Wireless tab, clicked on manual, change the Channel for the 2.4 Ghz network to 9.
5) When we tried it on the 5Ghz wireless they had me set the channel Width to 40MHz Only, and set to channel – 161
I also tried setting up port range forwarding. He knew the port information, and walked me through it.I have re-set the router to factory default settings, re-installed the software, and tried the previous steps twice more (except the port forwarding, because without my friend, I am not sure exactly how) I know enough to not have multiple WiFi devices going at the same time while trying to watch Netflix, but I know that I get good WiFi download speed tests at the location of the TV with an iPad (3.6 MBPS).I have done troubleshooting on the internet service. It has a good, strong continuous uninterrupted speed.I have tried this on two different TVs (similar Panasonic models, bit with the same WiFi adaptor). Problem persists on both TVs.I tested it with a 50’ LAN Cable running from the router to the TV. View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an E4200 and noticed that the wireless speed keeps dropping as it stays connected.As soon as I power it on, my iPhone and notebook connect at 54Mb, but as they remain connected, the speed keeps dropping to 48, 36 and one morning, my phone was oscillating between 5 and 11. The iPhone was almost at the same spot, and the signal was around 85~95%. On my 3 year old DIR-300, the speed don't change at all, and it's in a place where I can see around 15 connections. On the E4200 I can only see 2 other networks.I've already tried switching channels, fixed and auto channel, updating firmware and a few other common configurations. At first, I thought it was my repeater, but I turned it off and it didn't work. Turn my cordless phone off didn't change it also.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've had my 4200 for about 1.5 months now and it was working great until 8 days ago. I was playing WoW over wireless (like I always have) and noticed that I was lagging a bit. I brushed it off as possibly my internet connection. The next day I was surfing the net and at random times webpages wouldn't load or would take longer to load. I checked my wireless connection properties in windows and noticed that the link speed drops out every now and then. It'll start at 54Gb (only have G in the house, so I disabled the 5GHz and set 2.4GHz to B/G only), then it'll drop to 48, 36, 11, 1. Meanwhile the signal doesn't drop a bit. I'm still connected to the router just the link speed drops out and it just started. It's very annoying having to go old school and hook up wired on my laptops just in order to chat online or anything. I'm still using v 1.0.0 firmware, so I guess I could try upgrading to .03 and see. But I personally doubt that is the issue since this just randomly started happening. I ordered the router through newegg.com and I do not have the box for the router anymore so I don't think I can return it. And I can't be without a router for 4-6 weeks while Linksys/Cisco repairs mine.
View 5 Replies View Related I lost all Internet connnecitivity on my Linksys e3000. After determining that my cable modem was connected and working correctly, I pulled the e3000 and put my old wrv54g router in place. Wireless worked, but all wired connections showed link but no other apparent connectivity. Neither of my desktops could get a DHCP lease.
At that point, I purchased and manually installed a new e4200 router. All worked fine. Both laptops connected via wireless and both desktops via my house LAN. Until this morning (Monday). Wireless is working just fine, but both wired computers show 100 Mbs connections on an unknown network with no DHCP. Checking status shows packets going out, but nothing coming in. Checking LAN status on the router shows that both ports are connected, but it does not appear to receive anything from either desktop. All was fine last night. Oh, the router is on 1.0.03 firmware.
I have tried about everything I can think of. Configurations both on the router and the desktops (one Windows XP, 64 bit and one Windows 7) and all seems fine. I have disabled and reenabled the network connectors, rebooted both the router and the computers, etc. Nothing seems to work.
My E4200 seems to be dropping connections throughout the day. For wireless it'll still show full signal and connection, but there will be no internet activity for about a minute. Then after a minute things will work just fine again. For wired I notice it in my XBox mainly when I get dropped from games as constant as the wireless drops.I believe my modem isn't the problem since the old router never dropped connections on the hard wired devices. Occasionally my old D-Link router would drop wireless, but never this frequent,I am running 1.0.02. I've rebooted the router/modem several times. I even reinstalled the entire setup with the current version of Cisco Connect as the tech person suggested, but still no luck. The first week or so using this router was flawless, but ever since then it's been dropping connections several times throughout the day to any device connected (wireless or wired). The problem seems that the router just hiccups the connection very quickly, so quickly that Windows doesn't even recognize the connection has been lost, but long enough to drop a multiplayer game on XBox or to have me mashing refresh on my internet browsers.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased a e4200 in hopes that its dual band capability would allow us to run a 2.4ghz network for certain devices and a 5ghz for everyone else. I am able to setup the router and connect but it seems when the 2.4ghz network drops the router drops all connections.
At first I had the networks setup with the same ssid, then changed the 5ghz network to a new ssid but was still losing connection when the 2.4ghz network dropped. This may be a simple routing issue i am overlooking (bit of a network newbie).
Had an E4200 for a couple of months now and have not been able to resolve an issue with the router dropping an Apple iPad 2 at random times.The E4200 is replacing a Cisco Aironet 1200, which never dropped any clients, iPad 2 or others, and never displayed any of the issues below.
TECH DETAILS:The E4200 is being used purely as an access point. All extras are not in use and are disabled.

BASIC ISSUE:The E4200 drops an Apple iPad 2 off the 2.4 Ghz Mixed (B, G, N) network. The user must then select the network to rejoin. Rejoining occurs without incident. The same issue occurs when the network is restricted to B, G. The drops occur at what appears to be random intervals - sometimes 10 minutes apart, sometimes hours apart. We can have as many as 6 drops in an hour. A ping to the apple ipad shows the device stops responding to pings about 10 seconds before the user is prompted to rejoin a network. Meanwhile, a ping to the E4200 itself from a laptop connected via the E4200 on the same radio as the ipad continues to work without fail during this incident.
1. The iPad 2's cannot connect to the 5Ghz radio. I believe iPad 2's are supposed to support 5Ghz.
2. Both our Apple TVs do not connect to the 5Ghz radio: they fail with a "There was an error connecting to the network. Check your settings and try again. (-3914)" error. Apple TV supports 5Ghz.
3. The admin interface for the E4200 is very slow sometimes. Probably over 20 seconds to render some pages when it gets really bad. As a comparison, Internet-based pages on fast sites that delivered via the E4200 itself load in less than 2 seconds.
4. The HTTPS version of the admin interface can only be connected to via Safari browers. Both Internet Explorer 9 and Chrome 16 fail to connect with a "Connection reset" error. In Chome, it says "Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): The connection was reset." This is across multiple devices. There is no issue with straight HTTP.
All other devices - including Macs and PCs - connect fine with the E4200 on both 5Ghz and 2.4 Ghz radios, even if they cannot access its admin interface via HTTPS.I've presented quite a few issues above, but the main one is the drop outs for the iPad 2 devices. I'd present logs on drops, but the thing doesn't record any useful logs.

I have a home network with a Linksys E4200 connected to the ISP's fiber box. The problem is that when I'm connected to the Linksys, either wired or wireless, the connection to the internet will drop after what seems to be a random amount of time (normally anywhere from 2-10 minutes). I can restore the connection by doing any of these things:-reboot Linksys-disconnect and reconnect cable from router to fiber box-if on wireless connection, make changes to the router wifi settings, like change the wifi channel.The internal network stays up, and I can ping both the internal and external ip of the router, but not the fiber box. I have also had the same behavior with an Edimax Wifi AP and less frequently with a Edimax router (once every 1-2 days). I have done everything I can think of:-changed the wifi channels-changed the ip ranges, subnets, turned router DHCP off and back on-booted the fiber box-changed cables-updated all routers to the latest firmware, the network cards with latest drivers...and loads other things that I don't remember right now. For the wifi side of things, there are no other networks in range that could interfere. The same problem occurs on both my and wife's Win 7 laptops and on the iMac (latest OSX). Here's a fun detail: while the Linksys has lost its connection to the internet, I can still access the internet through the old Edimax router connected to the same fiber box, either wired or wireless.

While currently only laptops.Before doing any of these I have another cisco modem router DPC3825 which worked fine with giving wireless access.I first attemped to leave the modem router has is and connected the E4200 (ethernet 1 to internet), and changed ip to x.x.0.1 and x.x.0.2 while disabling wireless on the dpc3825 and the DCHP on the e4200 and have default gateway to x.x.0.1. My laptops can connect to wireless on E4200 but it couldn't get internet access.
Then I tried turning the modem to bridge mode & resetted E4200 (factory setting x.x.1.1, auto DHCP), and then connected my devices to both wireless bands. At this point I see router status obtained ip from ISP and Internet reached full speed per ISP's mark but the connection only held up for about 1 minutes. I noticed all the devices still maintained connection to router wirelessly but the router loses internet connection (lost the ip and couldn't get it back).
I'm trying to fix the network at a student housing building and the system is kind of a mess. We bought a new E4200 to replace our old Linksys router which no one knows the admin pw to. We have four switches for 50 connections throughout the four story house and when switching the connections over to the new E4200 all of the wired connections no longer work. Switch back to the old router and presto. How do I need to change the settings with the E4200 to get it to work?
Also, as it's a thick old house the E4200's wireless only covers maybe half of it...I purchased two wireless repeaters to put on the 3rd and 4th floors, are these simple to install with the router?
My router was working just fine forever, the only computer that will connect VIA wire is my desktop, everything else for it to connect to my network it has to go wireless. Things like my blu ray player just will not connect. I am not an expert at all, but why is only the wireless working? I can use the Cisco connect and adjust the settings if need be.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have my RVS-4000 configured using static IP addresses in the LAN configuration. The users use DHCP to get their addresses (for the most part, a couple may have static IPs set on the computer). I have the maximum number of DHCP users set to 1 to restrict the ability of people to log in to the system. That one address is locked down.
Almost daily one or more of the users will lose their IP address and a hard reset of the router is required. The user this happens to seems random and it may be more than one but seldom all of them. The network includes Windows7 (Home & Pro), a FreeNAS, Macs (Leopard and Snow Leopard) and an AirPort Extreme used as a WAP (DHCP is disabled). The AirPort is plugged directly into the router and has a staic ip on the RVS-4000 but is set to DHCP. It seems to be the most common problem child.
For a few weeks now, my router has been dropping WiFi connections, seemingly at random. When trying to watch BBC iPlayer is terrible, as it keeps dropping every 5 minutes.
Tonight my iPod Touch (iOS5) was connecting okay, while my son's iPod Touches (iOS3 and iOS4) would not. My MacBook Pro would not connect either.

My E4200 router no longer accepts any WIRED connections. I can connect from the modem to the computer and everything works as expected. I can connect other computers wirelessly to the router. I cannot connect any laptops WIRED to the router. Nothing has changed on the systems to restrict internet access. There is something wrong with the router and the WIRED ports. I tried going through the troubleshooting on this site but it was of little to no assistance. The Cisco Connect utility doesn't appear to accomplish anything either. My guess is because I cannot connect to the WIRED ports on the router to connect to the internet to allow for whatever troubleshooting that needs to be done.
View 2 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago I began having issues with my 615 arbitrarily dropping connections and so on which turned out to be an overheating router, due to sudden hot weather here in the UK, and I just wanted to share how I solved it. My solution was to dremel a hole in the case just big enough to fit a small, silent 12v brushless fan I salvaged from a wrecked computer's PSU, which would then rest on the PCB without any real fixtures. I even drilled some small holes in the side of the case for air to exit. This was fine though because the router is never moved around. Rather than solder the fan onto the power jack socket connections inside to use the unit's own supply, I used an old, disused multi-adaptor and ran the fan cables out of a small hole at the back. The benefit of that was that it didn't add any strain to the router's PSU as this was already under some load after messing around with transmit power in dd-wrt. Another small advantage is that I get voltage control on the fan for slowing on cooler days.
