Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Dropping Apple IPad 2 At Random Times
Feb 8, 2012
Had an E4200 for a couple of months now and have not been able to resolve an issue with the router dropping an Apple iPad 2 at random times. The E4200 is replacing a Cisco Aironet 1200, which never dropped any clients, iPad 2 or others, and never displayed any of the issues below.
TECH DETAILS:The E4200 is being used purely as an access point. All extras are not in use and are disabled.
Firmware 1.0.03
Hardware version 1.
BASIC ISSUE:The E4200 drops an Apple iPad 2 off the 2.4 Ghz Mixed (B, G, N) network. The user must then select the network to rejoin. Rejoining occurs without incident. The same issue occurs when the network is restricted to B, G. The drops occur at what appears to be random intervals - sometimes 10 minutes apart, sometimes hours apart. We can have as many as 6 drops in an hour. A ping to the apple ipad shows the device stops responding to pings about 10 seconds before the user is prompted to rejoin a network. Meanwhile, a ping to the E4200 itself from a laptop connected via the E4200 on the same radio as the ipad continues to work without fail during this incident.
1. The iPad 2's cannot connect to the 5Ghz radio. I believe iPad 2's are supposed to support 5Ghz.
2. Both our Apple TVs do not connect to the 5Ghz radio: they fail with a "There was an error connecting to the network. Check your settings and try again. (-3914)" error. Apple TV supports 5Ghz.
3. The admin interface for the E4200 is very slow sometimes. Probably over 20 seconds to render some pages when it gets really bad. As a comparison, Internet-based pages on fast sites that delivered via the E4200 itself load in less than 2 seconds.
4. The HTTPS version of the admin interface can only be connected to via Safari browers. Both Internet Explorer 9 and Chrome 16 fail to connect with a "Connection reset" error. In Chome, it says "Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): The connection was reset." This is across multiple devices. There is no issue with straight HTTP.
All other devices - including Macs and PCs - connect fine with the E4200 on both 5Ghz and 2.4 Ghz radios, even if they cannot access its admin interface via HTTPS.I've presented quite a few issues above, but the main one is the drop outs for the iPad 2 devices. I'd present logs on drops, but the thing doesn't record any useful logs.
Basic wireless config:
5Ghz:
Network Mode: Wireless-N Only
Channel width: Auto (20 or 40 Mhz)
Channel: Auto (DFS)
SSID Broadcast: Enabled
I check all of the settings and changed the channel to see if it works. For some reason it disconnects my wireless internet at random times and i know before it never use to do that before with a older router. There is nothing blocking it, it worked before, and my computers can connect except two. The only thing i can guess is my wireless card.
my E4200 is dropping connections several times a day. I'd be working on my laptop, go to a webpage and bang, no connection. A minute or so later it would reconnect. It even appears to be doing this with a computer that is hardwired to one of the ports. So it doesn't seem limited to just wireless. Happens to both N and g channels as well.
I have a brand new Dell laptop running windows 7 connected to a sky router wirelessly. My internet connection randomly just drops. At 1st I could just click on the yellow triangle and troubleshoot and it would reset the network adapter. I cannot do that now - Im having to disable the adapter and the enable it and Im back on the internet.I have set it up so I am connecting via a manual IP address as I wondered if when the kids PS3 was connecting it was pinching my Ip address.
The wireless drops specifically from my laptop constantly at random times. When the wireless drops in order for me to be able to reconnect i have to restart the router itself. There are also random times where the Wi-Fi stops broadcasting altogether. I have a computer connected via Ethernet and it does not lose connection during these times. All the computers are running Windows 7 and the Router is up to date on firmware.
I have an EA3500 that I installed recently to replace an old NetGear Router, everything works fine like a charm and suddenly is like the router goes down, both wired and wireless connections go down, no connection at all to the router, no internet, no nothing, the power stays on, but you can see the Leeds on the back blinking like when you do a reboot, then after a couple minutes everything comes back again, till the next drop...it happens several times a day, sometimes 3 to five times in an hour, some other times just happen 2 or 3 times a day... I have tried everything possible, changing the settings, factory defaults, firmware upgrade and roll back, MTU, different channels, even different power outlets to no avail.I wonder is I have a lemon, the worse part is I can't return to the store since the UPC code is gone (rebate) and links says they can't take it back as RMA.
My WRT400n has started dropping the wireless signal 4 to 5 times a day. Somet times it fixes itself but most of the time I have to re-boot the router to connect a wireless signal.I looked for a firmware upgrade but there hasn't been one since 2009.
The hardwired connections are fine, but at random the Printer, laptop and wireless Xbox connections will drop out and i'll have to reboot the router to get it working again. I've tried everything I know of (i.e., Static IP, Port Forwarding) as well as a factory reset, but I continue to have this issue.
Network running about 60 computers, most of which are running windows 7 professional. Some are on a domain, some are not.At (seemingly) random times, some computer on the network will lose the ability to browse websites (including the web interfaces of networked devices). I can't identify what circumstances cause this to occur. I only find out about it when someone calls me.From the affected computer:I can ping sites I can ping our Cyberoam UTM (which acts as our DNS, DHCP, and firewall)disabling/enabling connection doesn't fix the problem releasing/renewing ip doesn't fix the problem flushing dns doesnt fix the problem uninstalled antivirus on two test machines, problem still randomly manifests.replaced the Cyberoam with newer model users have claimed that if they wait a long period of time (40+ minutes) the problem sometimes resolves.rebooting the computer resolves the issue until it randomly occurs again changing the computer's mac address also resolves the issue until it randomly occurs again.
I've recently purchased an E4200, and while it works great, I'd like to use my Apple Airport Extreme (2nd generation) to extend my network to another part of the house that doesn't get as great of a signal. I've become very frustrated trying to accomplish it, and I'm not sure if the problem is more from the Linksys end, the Airport end, or if it's just me.
I am now on my second E4200... But still the same failure.. It looses the internet connection 5-6 times a day, and then I have to switch it off and on to get connection again.
I started using E4200 few months ago. It used to have frequent disconnection with E4200 when it's running on router mode back then. After playing with the MTU from 1492 (recommended by ISP) to 1364, it's seems to be quite ok until recently. It is getting worst than before. It disconnect my internet almost few times in 5 minutes. [CODE]...
I have a E4200 updated to the latest firmware I have problems with the wifi on the 2.4GHz band, in fact, at power on, many times wi-fi on the 2.4GHz band doesn't work but the 5GHz band works normally. After some reboots the wi-fi operating normally on both bands.
I have an E4200 wireless router which is connected via USB to my Canon MX 308 printer. I am able to print from Windows computers that are connected to this router (via WiFi of course). My iPad 2.0 is able to connect to the internet via the router. However I am not able to print content from my iPad via the E4200 router (via Wifi using Cisco Connect software).
My iPad cannot connect to my network wireless through WPA2 using router E4200 the way my Macbook is connected. Only using guest access i can get internet contact. Is this a known problem with this combination and/or is it meant to be, that only guest access gives an iPad connection?
I just got an e4200 refurbed router, and it's been working great except for one problem I'm having. I have Comcast cable with Ubee D3.0 modem. For some reason, there will be a random 4-8 second delay when going to certain websites. While this normally wouldn't be a problem, it occurs quite frequently with Google.com and we definitely can't have that. I've updated to latest firmware. Ran ping test to find optimal MTU, went with 1500. To be sure it isn't a DNS issue, tried accessing Google by IP addy and getting the same delay. The delay seems to occasionally occur with Facebook as well, at one point I couldn't even get to Facebook and had to release/renew ipconfig. I have Mac address cloned if that makes a difference.
I have configured my e4200 to block traffic at certian times uses both the Parental Controls and the Intenet Access Polices. Neither one seems to work though. [code] I have the same MAC addresses specified in each rule. Initally I had only the first two rules. Those didn't work, so I added rule 3 and 4 (they do the same thing as rules 1 and 2 but from the opposite direction). There are no compliaints, but they don't stop any traffic.
I started with the Parental Controls, they didn't work either. The page in there that lets you pick which machines you want to block seemed next to worthless. I have about four rows listed as "Network Device." REALLY LAME! As the MAC addresses are accesible and these weren't working I went to the IAP.
I have a Wag 160n router which works fine with desktop pc connected by ethernet & wirelessly to laptop. My nokia phone finds the wi-fi signal but apple i-phone & ipad dont!
The router is being good so far. I have a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO router with windows XP operating system. This has been going on for a couple of weeks now and I really want it to stop because it is stopping me from doing things that require the internet.
I seem to all of a sudden be having some strange issues with my E4200. I am running Firmware Version: 1.0.05 . I am also using a Dlink DAP-1522 gigabit bridge. The main machines I am noticing the dropouts on are my main windows computer (connected to network via ethernet cable plugged into DAP-1522 bridge) and my wifes ipad. What happens is it drops connectin for about 3 minutes then comes right back. I am really perplexed as to what could be causing this. At first I would have thought it was a bridge issue but thats up to date and my wifes ipad dropping (which is connected via wifi) shows there is something else going on here.
my e4200 updated with latest 1.00.1 firmware is constantly dropping connections from the outside to existant lan servers running low traffic services when my machine is using torrent or internet gaming.( call of duty modern warfare )
Had E4200 for several months worked great. The last 3 weeks speed drops intermittently through the day.Up graded to latest firm way yesterday 11-10-11 still have the issue, i.e. first thing this am had 15mbps and 1 hour later was below 1mbps. Have not added anything new equipment or software wise in the house during this time.
I have a 2911 router hanging/freezing at random times, could work fine for a week then crash, or sometimes, could only go a few hours, completely random with timing. The onyl fix is to manually pull the power and reinsert. When this happens, all services/access stop working, including nothing on console access. This was on 15.2.1.T1 which im aware, has a few bugs, so i upgraded to 15.2.1.T2.The issue continued, so I swapped out the 2911 with a brand new one. The issue is still present.
One interesting thing, is when the router crashes/freezes, all lights appear to remain on working as usual, but when i unplug any of the ethernet links, the lights still continue to remain flashing and on for the ethernet LEDs, even once i have fully removed the cat6 cable.
I bought a e4200 router about 3 weeks ago and after a power outage it decided it didnt like being connected to the internet anymore. So i got on the phone with cisco they determined the router was no good, mind you my laptop would connect wired. So they sent me a "refurbished" one, so i set it up. The new setup was wonky because it said the same message "Your connected to your router but..." then after trying to get the connection its self and failing it came up with "congratulations you are now connected to the internet". That lasted 3hrs and 45mins then died, so i went upstairs to power cycle it, it decided to connect with the old settings. That lased 25mins then died, so i reset it and reconfigured the router. Wouldnt connect, i checked my mac address and it was using my wireless one and kept turning on my wireless connection durring the install. So i cloned my wired mac address and got the internet for roughly an hour... then it died. So i reset it again and kept the wifi off got it going and decided to go to sleep. I wake up and its still working after 8hrs, i go down stairs with my tablet and i dies again. This time it refuses to reconnect, refuses to reset back up just doesnt want to work.
I just got an E4200 and have a SBG6580 cable modem. I cant seem to set this up properly and my connection keeps dropping. What is the proper set up ? I would like to configure it so the cable modem handles the DNS and the E4200 handles the wireless.
When watching Netflix, I can get 5 to 15 minutes of a movie no problem. Then I will get an error message:Cannot connect to Netflix. try again later. If the problem persists
- try again - exit
Then I can watch a few more minutes and it stops again. And again, and again......I have cable inernet service (Brighthouse Communications), with the E42000 connected to the cable modem. Then I have a Panasonic WiFi adaptor (DY-WL10) plugged into a USB port on my Panasonic Viera TV. I have the latest firmware on the router (1.3.03, build 14).I have done the routine of re-cycling the network by re-setting the router (and re-setting it up) and the modem. The chat session guys had me do the following:
1) Uncheck “Filter anonymous request”.
2) Click on Setup Tab - Here you will see MTU.
3) Select Manual & set the size to 1364
4) On Wireless tab, clicked on manual, change the Channel for the 2.4 Ghz network to 9.
5) When we tried it on the 5Ghz wireless they had me set the channel Width to 40MHz Only, and set to channel – 161
I also tried setting up port range forwarding. He knew the port information, and walked me through it.I have re-set the router to factory default settings, re-installed the software, and tried the previous steps twice more (except the port forwarding, because without my friend, I am not sure exactly how) I know enough to not have multiple WiFi devices going at the same time while trying to watch Netflix, but I know that I get good WiFi download speed tests at the location of the TV with an iPad (3.6 MBPS).I have done troubleshooting on the internet service. It has a good, strong continuous uninterrupted speed.I have tried this on two different TVs (similar Panasonic models, bit with the same WiFi adaptor). Problem persists on both TVs.I tested it with a 50’ LAN Cable running from the router to the TV. Netflix worked when wired!Next test I want to do is to stream Netflix on the iPad, right at the TV and ensure that works. To me, this seems like a wireless router setting issue or an issue with the Network Adaptor, or an issue of communicating between the Router and the adaptor.
ever since i had a power failure losing all power in my apartment, my router has begun regularily losing connection to the internet, I have to go into the router and renew ip address which is quite annoying
I recently bought an E4200 and noticed that the wireless speed keeps dropping as it stays connected. As soon as I power it on, my iPhone and notebook connect at 54Mb, but as they remain connected, the speed keeps dropping to 48, 36 and one morning, my phone was oscillating between 5 and 11. The iPhone was almost at the same spot, and the signal was around 85~95%. On my 3 year old DIR-300, the speed don't change at all, and it's in a place where I can see around 15 connections. On the E4200 I can only see 2 other networks.I've already tried switching channels, fixed and auto channel, updating firmware and a few other common configurations. At first, I thought it was my repeater, but I turned it off and it didn't work. Turn my cordless phone off didn't change it also.
my e4200 wireless. I have internet connection speed of 40mb and I have epc 3925 working in bridged mode as modem and E4200 as router. When I connect my laptop with wire on e4200 I am getting 37-38 Mbps on speedtest.net which is perfectly fine. But on wireless I am having a lot of dropping of speed: I have 2mps then jumping to 5-6 Mbps and so on it never goes more than 5-6 Mbps. When I disable WMM Support in QoS I am having perfectly constant 20mbps but... I have only g network 54mbps. [code]
I've had my 4200 for about 1.5 months now and it was working great until 8 days ago. I was playing WoW over wireless (like I always have) and noticed that I was lagging a bit. I brushed it off as possibly my internet connection. The next day I was surfing the net and at random times webpages wouldn't load or would take longer to load. I checked my wireless connection properties in windows and noticed that the link speed drops out every now and then. It'll start at 54Gb (only have G in the house, so I disabled the 5GHz and set 2.4GHz to B/G only), then it'll drop to 48, 36, 11, 1. Meanwhile the signal doesn't drop a bit. I'm still connected to the router just the link speed drops out and it just started. It's very annoying having to go old school and hook up wired on my laptops just in order to chat online or anything. I'm still using v 1.0.0 firmware, so I guess I could try upgrading to .03 and see. But I personally doubt that is the issue since this just randomly started happening. I ordered the router through newegg.com and I do not have the box for the router anymore so I don't think I can return it. And I can't be without a router for 4-6 weeks while Linksys/Cisco repairs mine.
