Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Constantly Dropping Connections

Sep 27, 2011

In the last three weeks I replaced a Linksys WRT54G wireless router with a new E2500.  The only reason this was done because the store salesman indicated I should get much better performance over my router that was probably 5 years only.

Since the install I have had nothing but issues.  I could never get on PC runing XP to connect.  It worked one day and the next morning I could never get it to connect again.  I even removed the encryption and went to WEP with no luck. My laptop that I loaded the software on and initially did the connection I didn't have an initial problem.  The problem I now have is the wireless connection is constantly dropping.  In the course of an hour the connection probably drops 3 to 4 times.  If you leave the PC for several hours, you may need to sign of your user and resign in to get the wireless connection to work. This is an experiment gone bad.  My old router never dropped a connection and every PC in the house stayed connected forever.  This new router is located the same distance as my original one was, but is nothing but a series of failed connection.

All I can do is wait for them to reconnect. I am very disappointed that I have not been able to find any solution to this problem. I have seen other posts for similar issuse but no resolution

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Drops Constantly On IMac?

Aug 1, 2011

I set up my new E2500 last week, and it works fantastic with every device (iPad, 2 iPhones, iMac, DLink usb, ...) EXCEPT my iMac.  That connects, but loses the connection very frequently (say at least every half hour) and I need to turn wifi off and on to get it to reconnect.

I've ensured that the iMac has all system updates, and I've checked that the E2500 is the latest firmware.

I've reverted to my old WRT54G for now, I'll have to return the E2500 if it won't work consistently with the iMac.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt120n Constantly Dropping Link Speed?

Jun 27, 2011

I have a toshiba a215-s7437. I bought this router upgrading from the usual netgear router that everyone and there mother has(wrt54g or something?). The routers are in the same exact spot...less than 6 feet from the computer with no obstructions. No matter WHAT i do, even if i put the router on top of the laptop keyboard, over time, usually a matter of minutes, it starts dropping my link speed. My old netgear ever went below 54, EVER. Even if i was out on the porch. It will connect at 54 mbps, then go to 36, etc etc until we get to 1mbps. I have had other friends bring laptops over, same exact thing happens to them. I am viewing the link speed through windows task manager to get these readings.  Though i can't see the link speed on my android phone or xbox, it seems over time they get slower also. I have tried googling the hell out of this issue to no avail. I do have the latest firmware. I have also tried searching these cisco forums and have not found any topics pertaining to this (maybe i just suck at searching). I have comcast at 15mbps and i do know that whether it is 54 or 36, it's not gonna be any faster. But just the fact that it falls the whole way to 1 is not acceptable. My fix for this at the moment is just disconnecting and reconnecting real quick, and i always start back out at 54 mbps. Sometimes I will get lucky and it will stay at that point for 20-30 min?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Constantly Drops Connections

Sep 5, 2011

My E4200 seems to be dropping connections throughout the day.  For wireless it'll still show full signal and connection, but there will be no internet activity for about a minute.  Then after a minute things will work just fine again. For wired I notice it in my XBox mainly when I get dropped from games as constant as the wireless drops.I believe my modem isn't the problem since the old router never dropped connections on the hard wired devices.  Occasionally my old D-Link router would drop wireless, but never this frequent,I am running 1.0.02.  I've rebooted the router/modem several times.  I even reinstalled the entire setup with the current version of Cisco Connect as the tech person suggested, but still no luck.  The first week or so using this router was flawless, but ever since then it's been dropping connections several times throughout the day to any device connected (wireless or wired).  The problem seems that the router just hiccups the connection very quickly, so quickly that Windows doesn't even recognize the connection has been lost, but long enough to drop a multiplayer game on XBox or to have me mashing refresh on my internet browsers.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 - Signal Dropping

Mar 28, 2012

I just bought and set up an E2500 wireless router this evening. Using the default settings (as applied by the Cisco setup CD), I was experiencing pitiful range, with signal dropping to 2 out of 4 bars just one room (about 20 feet away). (Previously, using the exact same physical setup with the same computer and a single-band Belkin n150 router, I always had 4 out of 4 bars in that room).

I entered an online live tech chat, and after some back and forth, the tech rep had me change the settings as follows:
(1) Rename the SSID to separate the two bands: One network SSID for the 5GHz band, another for the 2.4GHz.
(2) Turn off auto-channel for both networks: Set 5GHz to stay on channel 36. Set 2.4GHz to stay on channel 1.
(3) The 5GHz is set to use 20/40 MHz width, while the 2.4GHz is set to use only 20MHz width, but I believe those were the defaults already in place.

Then he promptly ended the chat, so we didn't get to finish. Nonetheless, with these settings in place, I am now getting a steady, uninterrupted 4 bars in the next room, using the 5GHz network SSID. Because we were disconnected, I have a few questions remaining:

(1) Is it normal to get such terrible range using the default settings (that's make for a lot of unhappy customers and a lot of extra calls to tech support)? Or does this indicate a problem with my router? (This was a Cisco certified refurbished model)
(2) Which change 'fixed' the problem: Was it separating the two bands into different SSIDs, or locking the channels rather than using Auto channel?
(3) Was this just intended as a test to troubleshoot the problem, or am I supposed to leave the router configured this way? (Since we were disconnected, I didn't get to follow up with the tech rep after changing the settings.) With it configured this way, I'm connecting devices that can find the 5GHz network to the 5GHz network's SSID, and the other devices that can't find it, I'm connecting to the separate SSID for the 2.4GHz network. Seems unnecessarily messy to have 2 SSIDs.

Linksys Wireless Router :: VPN Connections On A E2500

Jun 26, 2012

I am working with vpn setups for the first time. I would like to be able to connect to a computer on a home network through a linksys E2500 router. I have found alot of documentation on connecting to an external vpn from a computer on the lan side of the router, but nothing on connecting from the outside in. The router does have a static ip address with my internet provider, so I can contact the router from the outside. But makeing the connection to the computer on the other side of the router is where I am missing something or I dont realize that it is not possible. On the LAN side I am using DHCP to assign the address to the computer I want to connect to. Perhaps I need to make it have a static address also? I realize that when I configure the connection from the outside that I need to direct the connection to the remote computer in some way, unless vpn connections are fully passed through the router and the connection issue I am having is with the "inside" computer.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Dropping Skype Calls

Apr 6, 2012

I just bought an e2500 to replace my WRT54g, hoping that it would fix my call dropping problem. I had tried installing some friend recommended third party firmware on the WRT54g that he said would fix my problem, and with my infinite technological wisdom and experience ended up bricking it.

My problem is that randomly during skype calls with my family back home, I will lose internet connection. It drops the skype call and then I cannot open a web page or anything for about 60 seconds. My internets dead, then it just starts working normally again by itself. I can have anywhere from 60 seconds of connectivity up to 20 minutes or more while skyping. This all happens over a wired connection. Changing the router didn't change a thing, the problem still happens in exactly the same way. I have good bandwidth and all that stuff. Also, I watch netflix on my Xbox 360 over a wireless connection. Sometimes it will just lose connection in the middle of a show. However, the difference is that I can reconnect almost instantly after an interruption on that device. I have fixed the settings on the two different channels according to one of the other post I found in this community, and have not tried those settings out yet. This doesn't worry me as much as the wired connection issues.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Incoming Packet Loss And Dropped Connections?

Dec 23, 2011

I've been fighting with my E2500 since I got it back in June with lag, dropped connections, etc. It's a bit intermittent but can hang around for hours at a time when it kicks in. Restarts but the issue always comes back. Most noticeable while gaming online or on a VOIP program such as Team Speak. Generally when it happens If I'm monitoring my Team Speak connection the incoming packet loss shoots up between 20-30%, starting to drop out every other word or so. No out going packet loss. The connection drops are random between computers (I have one mac and one pc in the house) where one will be fine and the other wont, or when the whole system will stay connected and drop all transfer. In the case of this last one it's not my ISP's connection as any streaming happening between one computer and an Apple TV device will also cease. I've also swapped back to my old router (an older model linksys) and all problems have stopped. Fully rebooted and reconfigured the router about 3 or 4 times and am on the latest version of firmware (1.0.003). It was much worse on 1.0.002 but still very noticeable on 003. Also no difference with a different wireless adapter. I've tried the chat technical support but all they did was take 45 minutes to tell me how to reboot my router after telling them I already had.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Dropping Connections Several Times A Day

my E4200 is dropping connections several times a day.  I'd be working on my laptop, go to a webpage and bang, no connection.  A minute or so later it would reconnect.  It even appears to be doing this with a computer that is hardwired to one of the ports.  So it doesn't seem limited to just wireless.  Happens to both N and g channels as well.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA3500 Dropping Connections Every Few Minutes?

Sep 16, 2012

I have a brand new EA3500 (three months old) that has worked fine until recently.  For some reason the wireless keeps dropping all connections every few minutes.  I have checked the internet connection and that is not it as I can be hardwired to the router and the internet never drops.  This happens to every device in the house (two Xbox, tablet, multiple PC's) at the same time, or randomly between.  The devices are a mix of G and N so it is not associated with just one particular band.  I have verified the wireless phone, microwave, or anything else that might interfere with the signal is running.  One thing I have noticed is that when the wireless connection drops, the actual signal does not go away, I can still see it with a wifi analyzer.  This is very frustrating as I just replaced a previous Linksys router with this one for the very same reason.  Perhaps I should have bought some other manufacture.

Linksys Wired Router :: RVS-4000 Dropping Ip Connections?

Apr 19, 2012

I have my RVS-4000 configured using static IP addresses in the LAN configuration.  The users use DHCP to get their addresses (for the most part, a couple may have static IPs set on the computer). I have the maximum number of DHCP users set to 1 to restrict the ability of people to log in to the system. That one address is locked down.

Almost daily one or more of the users will lose their IP address and a hard reset of the router is required.  The user this happens to seems random and it may be more than one but seldom all of them.  The network includes Windows7 (Home & Pro), a FreeNAS, Macs (Leopard and Snow Leopard) and an AirPort Extreme used as a WAP (DHCP is disabled).  The AirPort is plugged directly into the router and has a staic ip on the RVS-4000 but is set to DHCP.  It seems to be the most common problem child.

Wired / Wireless Connections Constantly Disconnecting And Reconnecting?

Jul 17, 2011

I've been having a problem the past several days with my wired connection where every 2-3 seconds it will disconnect, then reconnect, then disconnect, and so on without stopping. There doesn't seem to be any reason for it, and it's not the internet connection but rather the physical connection that seems to be lost (the network will do the entire identifying...unidentified network > identified network thing).

Naturally, I've already tried upgrading my network card drivers + uninstalling/reinstalling when it didn't work. I've powercycled the router/modem and rebooted the comp, but I can't find any way to fix the issue. It's not a problem with the router, since this only happens on my computer, and the other computers connected to the router have no problems at all. Even if I disconnect the router and connect my computer directly to the modem, it still has the issue.

Normally I'd assume it was something wrong with my network adapter, but my computer has no problems connecting to a new router/network it's never been on before. This only happens with networks that my computer has connected to in the past.

Recently I've just been using the wireless connection since it was only the wired connection having issues, but a few days ago my wireless connection started doing the exact same thing. It'll disconnect/reconnect ad infinitum without stopping every few seconds, so it's impossible to get on the internet.

Here are the results of my ipconfig:

D-Link DIR-825 :: Constantly Dropping Internet Connection - 3 Macs / 2 Wireless / 1 Wired

Feb 16, 2011

I setup a D-Link DIR-825, VB1, Firmware V2.00NA about a month ago. We have 3 Macs here at home - 1 brand new iMac, a G4 Powerbook, and an old G4 / 933 Tower. The G4 tower is connected via ethernet. The other two through Wi-Fi. My problem is that I can barely use the internet for even a few minutes on the G4 tower, connected via Ethernet, without losing my connection. I can be in the middle of loading a page or an image, and suddenly it will say "Waiting for xxx.com". Then if I try to go to Google.com or something I will invariably get "Looking up xxx.com". The connection usually returns on it's own, but it can take up to 3 or 5 minutes. When I get this message on the ethernet G4 tower, I will also have lost connection on the wireless Macs. For the first couple of weeks the tower was not connected and we were just using the two wireless Macs, and they were working well. It seems that as soon as I hooked up the G4 tower via ethernet, connections became very flaky and intermittent all of a sudden. All the Macs are configured for DHCP. We have a Time Warner cable modem. The G4 tower had previously been used at my office with it's own dedicated DSL modem / router, and it worked flawlessly for months at a time without dropping a connection.  I've tried rebooting the modem, then the router, then turning all the Macs back on, several times. Same result.  I just tried loading the new firmware but it didn't work. Said the Gateway was too crowded or something.

D-Link DIR-615 :: Arbitrarily Dropping Connections / Overheating Router

May 27, 2012

A few weeks ago I began having issues with my 615 arbitrarily dropping connections and so on which turned out to be an overheating router, due to sudden hot weather here in the UK, and I just wanted to share how I solved it. My solution was to dremel a hole in the case just big enough to fit a small, silent 12v brushless fan I salvaged from a wrecked computer's PSU, which would then rest on the PCB without any real fixtures. I even drilled some small holes in the side of the case for air to exit. This was fine though because the router is never moved around. Rather than solder the fan onto the power jack socket connections inside to use the unit's own supply, I used an old, disused multi-adaptor and ran the fan cables out of a small hole at the back. The benefit of that was that it didn't add any strain to the router's PSU as this was already under some load after messing around with transmit power in dd-wrt. Another small advantage is that I get voltage control on the fan for slowing on cooler days.

Asus G74sx Internet Connection Dropping Constantly

May 26, 2012

I'm running an Asus G74sx, and it keeps losing connection to the internet (e.g. Youtube videos stop loading, disconnecting from online games constantly, my voice fizzing and breaking on VOIP programs like TeamSpeak 3 or Skype, etc). While the laptop clearly loses connection to the internet, it doesn't loses connections to the router (The signal strength remains excellent) and I've also tried using the cable, which doesn't fix the problem. The other computers using the same router work fine, though. These problems started about a week ago and I can't perform a system restore as the restore point available is from 05/26 (Yesterday). While I'm not an expert in the area, I've looked on several forums to see if there was a possible solution and done the following to try and solve the problem (none of which worked):

1- Restarting computer
2- Restarting router and modem
3- Opening the cmd and typing "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew"
4- Using a cable connection instead of wireless
5- Updating my wireless driver (Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 6150)
6- Unchecking the "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" on the driver configurations
