View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased an E2500 router today and it worked perfectly for about 4 hours. Now it drops my internet connection constantly. I can connect and load maybe 2 pages before that little yellow triangle of doom appears. Then after 2 or 3 minutes I am good and can reconnect. This cycle just keeps happening.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought and set up an E2500 wireless router this evening. Using the default settings (as applied by the Cisco setup CD), I was experiencing pitiful range, with signal dropping to 2 out of 4 bars just one room (about 20 feet away). (Previously, using the exact same physical setup with the same computer and a single-band Belkin n150 router, I always had 4 out of 4 bars in that room).
I entered an online live tech chat, and after some back and forth, the tech rep had me change the settings as follows:
(1) Rename the SSID to separate the two bands: One network SSID for the 5GHz band, another for the 2.4GHz.
(2) Turn off auto-channel for both networks: Set 5GHz to stay on channel 36. Set 2.4GHz to stay on channel 1.
(3) The 5GHz is set to use 20/40 MHz width, while the 2.4GHz is set to use only 20MHz width, but I believe those were the defaults already in place.
Then he promptly ended the chat, so we didn't get to finish. Nonetheless, with these settings in place, I am now getting a steady, uninterrupted 4 bars in the next room, using the 5GHz network SSID. Because we were disconnected, I have a few questions remaining:
(1) Is it normal to get such terrible range using the default settings (that's make for a lot of unhappy customers and a lot of extra calls to tech support)? Or does this indicate a problem with my router? (This was a Cisco certified refurbished model)
(2) Which change 'fixed' the problem: Was it separating the two bands into different SSIDs, or locking the channels rather than using Auto channel?
(3) Was this just intended as a test to troubleshoot the problem, or am I supposed to leave the router configured this way? (Since we were disconnected, I didn't get to follow up with the tech rep after changing the settings.) With it configured this way, I'm connecting devices that can find the 5GHz network to the 5GHz network's SSID, and the other devices that can't find it, I'm connecting to the separate SSID for the 2.4GHz network. Seems unnecessarily messy to have 2 SSIDs.
Currently running Windows 7, with internet explorer. I have most recent firmware installed on my e2500. The unit drops wireless connectivity on an intermittent basis. Sometimes after 5 minutes and sometimes after 20 or 30 minutes.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIn the last three weeks I replaced a Linksys WRT54G wireless router with a new E2500. The only reason this was done because the store salesman indicated I should get much better performance over my router that was probably 5 years only.
Since the install I have had nothing but issues. I could never get on PC runing XP to connect. It worked one day and the next morning I could never get it to connect again. I even removed the encryption and went to WEP with no luck. My laptop that I loaded the software on and initially did the connection I didn't have an initial problem. The problem I now have is the wireless connection is constantly dropping. In the course of an hour the connection probably drops 3 to 4 times. If you leave the PC for several hours, you may need to sign of your user and resign in to get the wireless connection to work. This is an experiment gone bad. My old router never dropped a connection and every PC in the house stayed connected forever. This new router is located the same distance as my original one was, but is nothing but a series of failed connection.
My E2500 Linksys has never been consistant with its signal to my MacBook Pro.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just bought an e2500 to replace my WRT54g, hoping that it would fix my call dropping problem. I had tried installing some friend recommended third party firmware on the WRT54g that he said would fix my problem, and with my infinite technological wisdom and experience ended up bricking it.
My problem is that randomly during skype calls with my family back home, I will lose internet connection. It drops the skype call and then I cannot open a web page or anything for about 60 seconds. My internets dead, then it just starts working normally again by itself. I can have anywhere from 60 seconds of connectivity up to 20 minutes or more while skyping. This all happens over a wired connection. Changing the router didn't change a thing, the problem still happens in exactly the same way. I have good bandwidth and all that stuff. Also, I watch netflix on my Xbox 360 over a wireless connection. Sometimes it will just lose connection in the middle of a show. However, the difference is that I can reconnect almost instantly after an interruption on that device. I have fixed the settings on the two different channels according to one of the other post I found in this community, and have not tried those settings out yet. This doesn't worry me as much as the wired connection issues.
I bought the new E2500 Router about 5 months ago and it was great until one day the wilreless part would not give me any speed at all. I ran a wired test of the router and I would get full 30Mbps speed that I'm supposed to get. So after firmware updates and everything else I took it back and got another one.It has worked great for a month and today it's now doing the same wilress slow down issue. I can run a lan connected test and get full speed. But wireless is bouncing around at 5Mbps~13Mbps. No where near the 30Mbps I'm supposed to be getting. What is causing the wireless to bomb like this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my WRT54N to an E2500 in November 2011 and I am now having problems with a slow signal that oscillates according to Speedtest.net. Results with the router are a ping of 300-500 ms and a wide variability on download speeds in a single test of 0.5 Mbps to 3 Mbps. When I bypass the router my results improve to a ping of about 65 ms and a constant download speed of about 4.25 Mbps which is the extent of what my ISP can offer due to my rural location. My network has two desktops (one Mac, one PC), an occasional MacBook Air, an occasional PS3 connection (though the variable signal has rendered the PS3 useless for online play), and my iPhone when I'm home.
So far, I have reset the router and ensured the latest firmware is installed. I also relocated the router to another section of the house, thinking it may be experiencing interference. Interestingly enough, I can unplug the router for 10 seconds, reboot it and it works great for about 30 seconds or long enough to run Speedtest a couple of times. Then it returns to the same slow, oscillating pattern.
I've just upgraded to FIOS quantum service. (50 MB down, 25 up). I have a Linksys 2500 connected to the FIOS router. The FIOS (ActionTec) router provides the full advertised speeds with any speed test service I try. But with the 2500 connected to the FIOS router I get download speeds about 3MB. The MTU on the linksys is 1500. It's connected correctly and is running it's own DHCP server. (Why am I doing this? I try to avoid the ActionTec routers, they have broken many services in the past.)The 2500 firmware is up to date. I've tested on the wireless and wired (ethernet) interfaces.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have on Desktop wired to the router which is my main pc. When I access internet the website load really slow, but when I connect the pc directly to Comcast modem, it's blitz fast. My internet speed is 15 Mbps. I have another desktop and laptop. None of them have the problem. What settings I have to change to get back to speed I used to have before.I messed up some settings on the Cisco Connect and accidentally reset the router. After re-installing the router the problem started.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using an E2500 router and an EA2500 adapter (to update my desktop from 802.11 g connection to 802.11n). I've connected my notebook to the network and the connection speed for the notebook is approx. 5.5 Mbps compared to 21.5 Mbps for the desktop connection. why the notebook connection is so much slower?I've just reinstalled both the E2500 and EA2500 tonight. I'm not sure whether or not there was such a vast difference in speed between the two before the reinstallation.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed the E2500 wireless router, and it works great for all devices we've tried so far. Here's the thing: we have a laptop that has been humming perfectly along for more that 12 years because we have never let it be touched by the internet. It has built in wi-fi, but we've never connected it. It has no viruses, no Microsoft creep, we've never had to purchase a virus software update and it has outlasted every piece of computer equipment we've ever owned. We'd like to keep it that way!
But now that the wireless printer is working beautifully, we want to know if there's a way to send the laptop through the router to the wireless printer, but not expose it to the internet. Is that possible?
I install the E2500 router with my modem. it works fine with other compaq desktop and gateway laptop. But the HP Pavilion dv6910 can not get online. I try my hp laptop at starbuck shop, and it work fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought the 2500 about two weeks ago and simply plugged swapped it out with my old wirelessG router. I did nothing for set up and everything worked fine. But after about a week I started having signal strength issues. I went online and saw that I needed to set up my router a certain way, so I am trying to do that now.

E2500 wireless N router (2 of these)

I am planning to set up a Wi-Fi network for a single story motel. It is C-shaped; about 300 feet along the longest side with "legs" of 120 and 70 feet.Until now I have only used that single WRT54g in the office for the entire property and it covers about half the property (left side.) My plan starts in the office (bottom left) with a WRT54g connected to the DSL modem as it always was. That would be connected to one of the E2500s in the middle so it can cover the most area. From there two others would shoot out to each corner (the other E2500 and the WAP54g). They will all be wired together with Cat 5e "riser cable". The routers will be placed in a wide open attic.
1. I have heard that N routers have a range of 150ft in every direction so that's why I'm putting one in the middle. Keep in mind that while the attic is open and wood constructed, the walls between rooms are concrete firewall and they haven't been wi-fi friendly.
2. Does starting with a B/G router at the modem mean the N routers will revert to B/G?
I have an E2500 running as a router/DHCP server. For reasons beyond the scope of this question, I am replacing the router and DHCP functions with a SonicWALL device. I would like to continue to use the E2500 as a wireless access point only, providing WiFi connection to the SonicWALL. How do I set up the E2500 for this purpose. I assume I switch off the DHCP server and NAT within the device. Is there a dedicated "access point" mode?

I have a Cisco e2500 dual band router.I have a cable modem pulling down 55mps.When I put it through my router I get 22mps wireless and 55mps wired. I want my wireless speed as fast as it can go!I have changed channels, I have gone with just wireless N I have done just Mixed. I contacted customer support and they won't talk to me since I am out of warranty (I just not got internet this fast). One small caveat - when I take the channel selection off auto and change to a preffered channel my one laptop drops connection a lot. We have two laptops and both get the same speed. (No I am not running speed tests with a bunch of other things running etc)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an existing home network with a D-link wireless router, IP 192.168.0.1. In the past, I set up another of the same model Dlink router as a WAP to extend my network by simply disabling DHCP and setting its IP to 192.168.0.100. Used the same SSID and passwords, worked flawlessly. Now, my WAP-router has failed and I purchased a LINKSYS E2500 to replace it in that function. I'm trying to configure it the same way but am having problems. The Linksys' IP is 192.168.1.1 by default. I hooked its LAN port to my laptop and accessed the setup page at 192.168.1.1. I changed the router IP to 192.168.0.200 and disabled DHCP. I saved settings, the router reset, and since, I am unable to re-connect to that router setup screen at either 192.168.0.200 OR the default 192.168.1.1. I reset the router to default and tried this multiple times but could never get back to the setup page (didn't even configure any wireless settings yet) after I made the IP change and disabled DHCP. With my previous router, this worked easily and flawlessly.
1. What am I doing wrong (ok, other than using Dlink components)?
2. Should these two different brand components work ok together llike this or is that a problem?
3. Why should unticking DHCP and/or changing the IP address as described make the device unreachable?
Just replaced a WRT54GS with an E2500. It seems that anytime a connected device goes "idle" for a while, the connection breaks or severely reduces and it's nearly impossible to get the connection back without performing an action at the device in question. Let the wireless connection on my laptop go unused for some period and it reduces to 1Mbps and you can't get back on by just using the link more... you have to do a "repair".
Let more than a few minutes pass since you've printed something on the wireless printer and you MUST go to the printer to re-establish the connection by turning the antenna off and then on again.Basically the same problem with my blueray/DVD getting on the network. When I shut the screen off on my phone, the wifi dies and receives NOTHING over that link while the screen is off.
None of these behaviors existed with the WRT... just the 2500. Background/facts - current firmware, DHCP with reservations, WPA2/per, MAC filtering in use, UPnP disabled. MTU/Beacon/Frag threshold/RTS threshold set per recommendations on this site.
I have a cordless phone which broadcasts on 2.4ghz - when the phone is being used it cuts out the wifi. I thought that with the E2500 being a dual band - I wouldn't have this issue as I thought the router would switch to the 5 Ghz frequency if there was interference on the lower band. Maybe I am not understanding how the dual band works.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded my Linksys router from an older one to the E-2500 about a week ago. Everything is working great on my wired desktop and 3 wireless laptops except the printer will no longer work from any of the computers. I've checked the printer wireless settings and they are correct (ssid and password) and it says it's connected to the wlan. Each of the computers shows the printer is active and set to default BUT the port light on the back of the new router is not on. I have changed cables and still no light, the printer is set up for sharing and it did work a couple days ago but port light was on then.
I have not added anything that wasn't hooked up on my old router, I"m just trying to get what I had on the old router to work on the new one. Everytime I call support, they have me change something that messes up what a previous agent had me do. Now they want me to pay for a direct connection so they can upgrade my router firmware...they didn't even ask what version I already had which happen to be the same version that is available on [URL] so if I had agreed, I would have paid for nothing. I had already paid $29.99 for additional 14 day support on my old router only to find out I needed a new one.
I've been using Linksys routers for quite awhile but I'm just about ready to change brands. I would really like to give this E-2500 a chance.
I have a new e2500 router and want to use my old WRT54G2 to expand the range of the wireless to reach my detached garage. My house is wired with category 5e cabling, but not the garage, which is why i want to wireless to get expanded. I was hoping the the new e2500 would reach, but it doesn't. How I can do that?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using an E2500 as an access point, which is working fine. I have an Ethernet cable on one of the LAN ports of the E2500 connected to a LAN port on my gateway router. The LAN address of the E2500 is 192.168.7.3 and the LAN address of the gateway router is 192.168.7.1. Clients on the E2500 wireless network have no problems getting to the Internet through the gateway router. Clients on the E2500 wireless network can reach the E2500 local management port at 192.168.7.3 on port 80. On the gateway router I am forwarding WAN port 8083 to LAN address 192.168.7.3 at port 80. But I cannot access the E2500 local management interface via the gateway router. The E2500 should see the request as from 192.168.3.1 due to NAT in the gateway router, right? I can reach any of my actual access points this way, just not a router being used as an access point. Security/design limitation of the router?

View 9 Replies View Relatedi've recently upgraded from E3200 as i wanted slightly faster and more reliable router, only to find out this one is more troublesome then the older model.
Upgraded to latest firmware:
EA Series Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Firmware
11/19/2012
Ver.1.1.39.145204
i've excellent WIFI reception - setup 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks (diffrent SSID). i've few apple computers on the WIFI, and ipod touch 5th gen with iOS 6.01.Seems that often when i browse web on the ipod, the WIFI drops (takes about 60s to reconnect - almost as if the router is rebooting). But it's not conclusive and unpredictable. It also happens just with the computers when browsing web.
I purchased the linksys 3200 dual band router recently. I am a huge cisco and linksys supporter so for me this is disappointing. Aside from being slower at times than my previous router I am having issues with the 5Ghz wireless. My issue I am facing is it seems multiple times throughout the day the router somehow drops its 5ghz wireless ssid or its gone..not sure. The only way I can get it back up and running is to reconnect with the Cisco Connect software and re-establish the settings and then reconnect any wireless devices. This seems to happen sporadically and is insanely annoying considering this router should be a big upgrade.
It seems to me the 2.4Ghz band seems to be more stable. I am on the latest firmware for the device and I am using a 5ghz compatible wireless device to connect to it.
