Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Extending Wifi Network Beyond Firewall

Dec 6, 2012

I am trying to extend the wireless network at our church beyond a firewall to another area of the builing. We have a cat 5 cable run through the firewall to the other side. I have a brand new Linksys E2500 router. Can I assign an IP to this router and connect it's WAN "Internet" port to one of the ports on the main router that is connected to the cable modem and use it to extend our network?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Extending Range On E2500?

Jul 10, 2011

My wireless router in my downstairs office won't reach an upstairs bedroom on the other side of my house.  I'd like to extend the range.  It is not clear if my best option is to get an antenna to boost the range (such as an Alfa 500mW AWUS036H USB Wireless Adapter 802.11 b/g Network Radio Card. Includes 2dBi Omni Antenna ), or to get a repeater to repeat the signal, such as a Hawking HWREN1 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Range Extender.     I also don't know if Linksys has a product for either application that works with 802.11n standard. Finally, since the Linksys E2500 has no antenna or antenna port visible, I am nod sure if an antenna such as the Alfa listed above or a Hawking HSB2 HiGain Signal Booster would even work with the E2500.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 - Set Up Wifi Network

Feb 25, 2013

I have the following equipment
E2500 wireless N router (2 of these)
WRT54g router (B/G)
WAP54g access point (B/G)

I am planning to set up a Wi-Fi network for a single story motel. It is C-shaped; about 300 feet along the longest side with "legs" of 120 and 70 feet.Until now I have only used that single WRT54g in the office for the entire property and it covers about half the property (left side.) My plan starts in the office (bottom left) with a WRT54g connected to the DSL modem as it always was. That would be connected to one of the E2500s in the middle so it can cover the most area. From there two others would shoot out to each corner (the other E2500 and the WAP54g). They will all be wired together with Cat 5e "riser cable". The routers will be placed in a wide open attic.

1. I have heard that N routers have a range of 150ft in every direction so that's why I'm putting one in the middle. Keep in mind that while the attic is open and wood constructed, the walls between rooms are concrete firewall and they haven't been wi-fi friendly.

2. Does starting with a B/G router at the modem mean the N routers will revert to B/G?

Linksys Cable / Dsl :: Wag160n Extending Wifi Network

Feb 9, 2011

I replaced my old separate modem and router yesterday for a Linksys WAG160N. Basically , my next door neighbor is paying their ISP a fortune and hardly uses their internet at all. Ive offered for them to share mine (With both of us providing full consent , i'm not doing anything dodgy!) as i have a very big download quota and it would save them some money.

Now the 2 houses are separated by an alley but distance from the router to their computer is about 6m. Strangely , my WAG160N doesn't reach that far as my wireless network doesn't even appear when they in their house on their laptop! So after reading up on wireless bridges / wireless range extenders and all sorts of things i'm now very confused.

Im basically looking for the most cost effective way of extending the signal from my WAG160N , possibly through the use of a second router in my garage) to allow the neighbor to get a good signal. I cannot reposition my modem/router from its current location and also cannot connect a second router using an Ethernet cable , it must be done wireless. So , is there a way i can wireless connect my WAG160N to another wireless router in order to extend my signal for my neighbor to use? I was looking at the Netgear WN2000RPT and the WRT160N as someone else had previous success with using this as a repeater.

Extending A Network With Additional Wifi Router?

Jul 25, 2012

As my original Innbox V50U modem/router does not have a strong enough wifi signal I had to add in an additional wifi router - I used a Cisco Linksys E4200.The problem is that if I connect my laptop to the cisco router I can see the Innbox router but not vice versa. There is an additional problem as I have a wireless printer that is connected to the Cisco router. If I connect to the Innbox router I cannot use this printer as I cannot see its IP address.I read somewhere it might be down to the subnet mask. both are set to 255.255.255.0Apologies if this is n00b stuff but I have not had this problem before, I just naturally though the two networks would be able to talk to each-other.

Extending Wifi Reach With Linksys Ap Or Router?

Feb 25, 2012

Goal: extend the reach of my WiFi to multiple floors with keeping in the basement the DSL modem - Actiontech M1000 and Actiontech W1000. I have a Linksys Access Point and Linksys Router. I was told by CenturyLink (only allowed support for Actiontech) that the modem would need to be put in bridge mod that would disable the Actiontech W1000. Whereas I want to keep access in the basement and add coverage to upstairs.

being able to config the Linksys(s) or using DD-WRT operating system?

Wireless :: Extending Signal Range Of Wifi Network

Feb 8, 2013

Sending WiFi signal about 1/4 mile from my home to where my daughter lives so she can use her Samsung Galaxy2 Tablet on WiFi.There are homes, condos and trees in between us, so it is not a clear path.So far this is what I have done.I am using a modem and a Netgear WNR834B Wireless N Router.I connected a Hawkins Laptop Extender (HWREN Wireless 150N Mini Extender * single antenna outlet) into the router and connected a WiFi cable from the Hawkins to my tower outside above my roof and have attached a 10 dbi gain Trendnet antenna (omnidirectional) to the cable. But still the WiFi signal doesn't seem to be very strong at all when I test with my phone. And obviously, my daughters tablet does not see my router when she has her tablet search for WiFi.I also tried a 14dbi WIfi ASUS directional antenna and basically came up with the same outcome... she could not see the WiFi signal..My daughter lives in a condo and is not capable or allowed to install any outside antenna system whatsoever.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Extending Same Network In 2 Different Rooms Using E3000?

May 11, 2011

I have a Linksys e3000 and a Linksys WRT120NVery simple setup. the 3000 is in my office. There is a cable that goes from this routerto the living room across the house, it is just laying there. Since I cannot get a wireless signal into that room,I would like, using the cable that is hanging there to make use of the other linksys and provide a wireless signal to the living room, all under the same network. In essence, extending the wireless network using the cable in the living room that is connected to the main router in my office. My question is, without touching the master router, how would I set the 2nd router in the living room up?I understand that DHCP on the 2nd router needs to be turned off, and a channel selected so that it does not overlap. Same SSID, Sam WPA2 key.Or would there be a device better suited for this?I do not want to extend the 2 rooms wirelessly I want to use the cable, then use the wireless in the living room for wireless devices etc.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Extending E4200 Network With Apple Airport Extreme?

I've recently purchased an E4200, and while it works great, I'd like to use my Apple Airport Extreme (2nd generation) to extend my network to another part of the house that doesn't get as great of a signal.  I've become very frustrated trying to accomplish it, and I'm not sure if the problem is more from the Linksys end, the Airport end, or if it's just me.

Netgear N300 Dgn2200v1 Adsl2+ Modem Router / Extending Wifi Range For Home Network?

Dec 11, 2012

how to properly configure 2 different hardware devices to extend the current wifi signal of my home network.I'm using a Motorola SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem as my primary access point (AP) and a Netgear N300 DGN2200v1 ADSL2+ modem router which will function "behind" the SBG6580 in repeater mode. I previously had DSL for my internet connectivity but recently switched to broadband cable for faster speeds.Due to the layout of my home, I cannot physically connect the Netgear router to the Motorola modem via ethernet cable and need both devices to communicate wirelessly. I have already done extensive reading on this subject and best practices suggest that, whenever possible, both units should be the same brand/manufacturer. The Netgear appliance does have the capability of being configured as a repeater so if I don't have to buy a "network extender" that would be my preference.I understand that both units must be configured to have the same SSID, subnet, wireless channel and security encryption. In repeater mode the Netgear router can't be configured to use WPA2-PSK so I need to use WEP instead.

I would like to continue to use the E2500 as a wireless access point only, providing WiFi connection to the SonicWALL. How do I set up the E2500 for this purpose. I assume I switch off the DHCP server and NAT within the device. Is there a dedicated "access point" mode?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Using E2500 Wifi Access Point?

Dec 13, 2012

I have an existing home network with a D-link wireless router, IP 192.168.0.1.  In the past, I set up another of the same model Dlink router as a WAP to extend my network by simply disabling DHCP and setting its IP to 192.168.0.100.  Used the same SSID and passwords, worked flawlessly.  Now, my WAP-router has failed and I purchased a LINKSYS E2500 to replace it in that function. I'm trying to configure it the same way but am having problems. The Linksys' IP is 192.168.1.1 by default. I hooked its LAN port to my laptop and accessed the setup page at 192.168.1.1.  I changed the router IP to 192.168.0.200 and disabled DHCP. I saved settings, the router reset, and since, I am unable to re-connect to that router setup screen at either 192.168.0.200 OR the default 192.168.1.1.  I reset the router to default and tried this multiple times but could never get back to the setup page (didn't even configure any wireless settings yet) after I made the IP change and disabled DHCP.  With my previous router, this worked easily and flawlessly.

1. What am I doing wrong (ok, other than using Dlink components)?

2. Should these two different brand components work ok together llike this or is that a problem?

3. Why should unticking DHCP and/or changing the IP address as described make the device unreachable?

I thought that with the E2500 being a dual band - I wouldn't have this issue as I thought the router would switch to the 5 Ghz frequency if there was interference on the lower band. Maybe I am not understanding how the dual band works.

Linksys Wireless Router :: New E2500 Port Light For Wifi Printer Not On?

Aug 18, 2011

I have just upgraded my Linksys router from an older one to the E-2500 about a week ago.  Everything is working great on my wired desktop and 3 wireless laptops except the printer will no longer work from any of the computers.  I've checked the printer wireless settings and they are correct (ssid and password) and it says it's connected to the wlan.  Each of the computers shows the printer is active and set to default BUT the port light on the back of the new router is not on. I have changed cables and still no light, the printer is set up for sharing and it did work a couple days ago but port light was on then.

I have not added anything that wasn't hooked up on my old router, I"m just trying to get what I had on the old router to work on the new one. Everytime I call support, they have me change something that messes up what a previous agent had me do. Now they want me to pay for a direct connection so they can upgrade my router firmware...they didn't even ask what version I already had which happen to be the same version that is available on [URL] so if I had agreed, I would have paid for nothing. I had already paid $29.99 for additional 14 day support on my old router only to find out I needed a new one.

I've been using Linksys routers for quite awhile but I'm just about ready to change brands. I would really like to give this E-2500 a chance.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Local Management For E2500 As Wifi Access Point

Jul 19, 2012

I am using an E2500 as an access point, which is working fine. I have an Ethernet cable on one of the LAN ports of the E2500 connected to a LAN port on my gateway router. The LAN address of the E2500 is 192.168.7.3 and the LAN address of the gateway router is 192.168.7.1. Clients on the E2500 wireless network have no problems getting to the Internet through the gateway router. Clients on the E2500 wireless network can reach the E2500 local management port at 192.168.7.3 on port 80. On the gateway router I am forwarding WAN port 8083 to LAN address 192.168.7.3 at port 80. But I cannot access the E2500 local management interface via the gateway router. The E2500 should see the request as from 192.168.3.1 due to NAT in the gateway router, right? I can reach any of my actual access points this way, just not a router being used as an access point. Security/design limitation of the router?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Can't See Other Computers On Local Network

May 1, 2012

I have a E2500 connected to a cable modem as the base of my home network. Hard wire connected to the E2500 is an linksys 8 port hub and a couple of computers. The 8 port hub is connected to a couple of computers and a xbox. I have the hub as a distro point to cut down on wiring. Wirelessly connected to the E2500 are a variety of laptops, netbooks, ipods, an ipad, a playbook, an iphone, a android phone, a wireless printer and a Ps3. Most of the devices are just using the wifi for internet access. Most devices have been setup with their own ip addresses to avoid ip conflicts. The computers and laptops/netbooks are running either Windows XP, Windows 7 or Mepis Linux. Up until now everything was going as good as can be expected, all the computers could see each other and most could transfer files between each other except when Windows gets picky. In the last few days no computers can see each other. Windows or Linux.Everything can accsess the internet and wirelessly print still just can't see each other. I reset the E2500. I updated the firmware on the E2500. I installed the Cisco Connect software (just in case I was too stupid too setup a router). Still nothing. I can ping other machines from a command prompt in windows or a terminal in Linux and get a good ping back. In the router setup via a browser I can go to the status page and see other devices on the local network but most are just ipods, ipad, playbook and the wireless printer, If I go to the administration page / diagnostics I can ping other computers and get a good answer. I just can see them from each other. I think I've rebooted every thing at least once. Yes the workgroup names are all the same (workgroup) and yes file sharing is turned on on all computers.

Extending Wireless Network With Second Router?

Apr 29, 2013

I live in a house with three floors. I have a Virgin Media Superhub on the ground floor with the 30MB package. Whilst the wireless signal quality and speed is good on the ground and first floor, it is intermitent on the second floor and my son wants to connect his PS3 with a wired connection for speed.

I have a N wireless router that I was using before I receiced the new Virgin Superhub. I want to ask if I can connect the old wireless router in my son's room on the second floor and connect it with a Cat5e ethernet cable to the Superhub on the ground floor. This way, I will have a wired connection on the ground floor for my desktop computer, my son will have a wired connection for his PS3 and laptop and his own wireless network.

I just want to know if this will work with an ordinary cable wireless router? Or do I need some sort of special access point? If this will work, do I connect the cable from the Superhub to the WAN port of the old router, or to one of the four other ethernet ports?

Extending Wifi Range Using Another Router Mn-700?

I want to share my pc's wifi connection with a neighbor across the street. But i have been un-able to confirm that it can reach the net. With the configs i have tried.I have cloned the mac addy for the wifiAP i have shared. This should be enough. And i should be able to walk it across the street and have it act as the same wifiAP. And he should have the net, via my pc. I tried to use another wifi device to connect to the shared IP...And the router itself...But there was no internet. have tried to configure this router to work as a repeater as well using it's setup. This resulted in no internet connectivity over lan, and no wifi service listing. These is no way for me to tell it which router or device it should be repeating from...

I have tried manually configureing the mn-700 To use the same ip the other router does for it's services. The mn-700 doesn't keep the settings. When it does there is no internet or wifi services. When i have it setup on it's own, no config changes...It'll connect over wifi to the router but there is no net. I can connect a lan wire going to the other router and renew it's lease. This will give the mn-700 an ip addy as if it were another pc. It uses this as it's WAN config
