i am a using a WRT54GH linksys router.. which was working fine for a year.. there was thunderstorm and lightning a few days back.. since then my routers internet port (the first port which says internet in yellow) has stopped working..

View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased an e4200 about 6 months ago and it worked great until the other night the Internet stopped working on my laptop (wireless). I tried unplugging both my modem (Motorola Surfboard) and router and plugging them back in, but no luck. I can accesss the Internet when plugged directly into the router (with both my PC and laptop), so it looks like the issue is with the e4200. To make matters worse (and I fear much worse), I can't even access the admin page to the router through either the Cisco Connect software or through the IP address. I've tried resetting it, I've tried the 30/30/30 reset (holding the reset button while doing an unplug and pluging back in), and reinstalling the Cisco Connect software, all to no avail.
I've found threads where others have not been able to access the admin page, but they still had access to the Internet url... I haven't found a similar thread where the router doesn't seem to work at all. A few other bits of information I can think of (let me know if there's other information I can provide):The Cisco logo light flashes slowly after reset which I believe is expected.The lights in back of the router seem to work as intended.Running Windows 7 Diagnostics finds the connection "doesn't have a valid IP configuration" and "The default gateway is not available."
There is no "blinking light" indication on my E3000 at the Internet (Yellow label) and Ethernet port no 4. I tried plugging in 2 cables at all of the ports. I got the blinking indication at Port 1 through 3. The same cable's have no response at Port 4 and Internet port. As a result my I am not able to connect to the internet.

I used another computer to hook up with the ethernet cable because that wouldn't work wireless for some reason. A little while after that, the Linksys network stopped working completely(all three computers could not access the internet). Now I can only connect to the internet if I use a ethernet cable from the modem.

I no longer saw my router listed in my available wireless networks, and neither could my girlfriend from her computer. I unplugged the router to see if one of the available networks had disappeared in case my router had somehow been reset, and nothing changed so my computer isnt even seeing my router. Right now, I am wired through the router so I know the router works, but the wireless part doesnt for some reason. I was looking up stuff in the FAQ, and think the firmware is corrupted since the LEDs are all blinking. I was trying to update my firmware following the instructions I found using tftp.exe, however it failed. One problem is that I can't set up a static IP address since I need to access the web-based utility to check my DNS server but I cannot access the web-based utility anymore (maybe cause of the corrupted firmware?). On a related note, there is someone else in my building using a linksys with the default network name of linksys. I had changed my network's name and security-protected it, though that is all likely gone now since I tried to reset the router. My question is what will the network name of my router be if I saw it since "linksys" is already taken. or will there just be two of them?

Came home after work last night and couldn't connect to the internet. Called Charter cable this morning and their troubleshooting showed I can connect to the internet fine if I bypass the router, so the issue must be with the router (and of course not their problem...). How do I trouble shoot this? I've tried powering down the router and releasing and renewing IP addresses but it hasn't worked.

It wouldn't make that much of a difference, but I already purchased a new LInksys Cisco EA3500, but I cannot get it to do my port forwarding. I have tried everything and nothing works. Have spent hours on the phone with tech support with no solution. My old WRT54GS just simply worked. The port forwarding worked perfect. I have tried the exact same setup in the new EA3500 and no luck no matter what I try.
So, is there anything I can do to get the old WRT54GS working? I have tried holding the reset button in for 1 minute and then unplugging it
My M20 Valet Plus stopped working suddenly last night. Now no power lights will come on and it now longer transmitts as a connection point . No apparent sign that it's alive. I've owned it troublefree for just over a year, but it is out of warranty. Any way to tell if there is hope of reviving it or if I'm just out of luck? Nothing happened at my end to cause this -- no power interruptions or other odd occurrences.

Then today my computer shut down and when I turned it back on there was a connection but my computer was not responding to any commands. The icon shows full connectivity excellent connection. When I try to go to a web page it shows Connection Error and cannot get to any web pages.I am able to get on other wireless connections from neighbors but not mine. I have gone thru different directions on here and I am not technical and don't understand what is being said. I try to go to 192.168.1.1 and it asks for a password which I don't have. Last week, the wired network stopped working. I checked the wiring and plugged my wire into all four of the ports in the back of the router with no success. I've tried connecting the modem directly to my Mac and it works just fine (that's how I'm sending this message now). But when the modem is connected to the router, I get no data. It connects to both the 5 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz networks, but it refuses to send data through the pipe. I've tried power cycling both the modem and the router to no avail.

I have an external drive connected to a mac mini which is shared on the network. When transferring folders to or from that external drive, our internet connection stops working until the transfer finishes, then comes back up. I've tested this in a variety of ways. Any transfer of data from shared folders in any combination of devices causes internet to stop working both on wired and wireless devices until the transfer is done, then they all work again. View 1 Replies View RelatedI was changing the port forwarding configuration when suddenly the router stopped working, and now the "D-Link" light is constantly on, and the power light and the 4 LAN lights are flashing. Nothing worked, resetting, or unplug and plug again in a short time.
I disconnected it for 12 hours, and when I plugged in again, it kinda worked, and the settings where factory defaults, so when I tried to connect it to DSL via PPoE, when ( I believe ) it reboots to accept the changes, it starting flashing again and completely stopped working.
So I waited 12 hours more unplugged, plugged it and it worked, and the setting from 12 hours earlier were still there. But when trying to connect to the DSL it stopped working AGAIN.
Now I don't know what to do. I guess I am going to keep trying connecting with little differences, until something.
I believe it still has warranty but since the is no official service in Uruguay, it isn't economically viable to send it overseas.
I am currently connected directly to the DSL, sharing connection to other computers through a switch and hosting an ad-hoc wireless network, but the performance is terrible and the wireless range is minimal.
I got the computer in 09 with windows vista and the internet worked correctly. i upgraded to windows 7 in 2010 or 11 and the wireless was still working. Last year all of a sudden my wireless internet stopped working and had to use a cable to connect to my router. A few months went by and i randomly got my wireless internet connection back for about 2-3 months now all of a sudden my wireless is out again. i ran tests in other threads posted on this subject and the only way they got it to work was to buy a usb connection. is this the only way im going to be able to get wireless back?

I used windows Xp and now I installed windows 7. After that i cannot connect to the router. I tried with 192.168.1.1 in my browser and with the setup CD. I just cant enter to setup the router.
