Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 V1 - Access PPPoE Modem With Wired Ethernet?

Oct 13, 2011

I am using the WRT54G2 connected to a cable modem that requires a PPPoE login.  I followed the Service Providers instructions and cloned the modems MAC address to the WRT54G and setup the PPPoE user id and password.  I can then plug my PC into one of the Ethernet connections on the back of the WRT54G and everything works as expected.  First I connect to the WRT54G2 and then I open a PPPoE connection in my network settings and it logs into the service provider and everything works as expected.  But when I connect to the WRT5G2 wirelessly I connect to the AP fine.  When I open the same PPPoE connection to the service provider it fails, the message says I have the wrong userid or password or that the protocol is not supported.  Of course I know the userid and password is correct because it works when connected with Ethernet cable.  I have tried disabling the security on the wireless network but that did not seem to work. The modem is a HomePNA HCNA Voice Endpoint.I am at the latest firmware 1.0.04.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 Can't Get IP From PPPoE Server

Sep 19, 2010

I installed a Linksys WRT54G2 router earlier this year and set my Siemens modem from AT&T(Actually from SBC before the two merged) in bridge mode.  I did this so I could change the NAT setting on our internet, which was interfering with my Xbox.  It worked for about 4 or 5 months with little to no problems.  Recently, however, the internet has been disconnecting and when I check the status page on the router it says it is disconnected.  Sometimes clicking on the connect button will work, but usually it will say "Connecting" and keep refreshing the page for a little while without any change, then give me a message saying it couldn't get the IP from the PPPoe server.  Turning it and the Siemens modem on and off and fiddling around seems to solve the problem, but only temporarily.  Interestingly enough, I don't think it ever interferes with my Xbox.  Until recently, the Xbox was set as the highest priority on the QoS page, but I changed the computer to the highest priority and it hasn't worked.  In addition, the small, thin green light bar just below the Linksys logo on the top of the router has just recently started changing to orange occasionally

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 - Cannot Get IP Address From PPPoE Server

Sep 20, 2012

I have been working on this for hours and getting frustrated!   This router has been set up for over a year with no trouble, but recently had trouble connecting with my wireless devices and was kicking my wired (ethernet) laptop off when it is usually on all the time.

Now,  my wired connection works through the router, the wireless devices all connect to the network but do not have access to theinternet.    From the router's setup page, when I enter my PPPoE information and go to status and connect, it tries to connect a few times then gives me the error message 'cannot get IP address from PPPoE server"

I have tried updating firmware, resetting, restarting, recycling power, chat support with ISP and chat support with Linksys.   Have verified my username and key and those are correct otherwise I'd have no internet access at all.  I do have wired access but not wireless.   The wired connection does go through the router.

Bridging - my modem is a bridging modem only, so it shouldn't be that.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 Ethernet Cable Not Connected

Feb 17, 2013

I'm using a refurbished WRT54G2 v1.5 router.  I've had the router for two and a half years and have never had a problem. I recently unplugged my DSL modem and this router to move them, and when I plugged them in again, the router stopped picking up the internet signal from the DSL modem. I'm able to get internet when I hardwire directly to the modem though. I tried resetting the router and setting the router up from scratch again, but now I just get error 321 Ethernet cable not connected when I try and run the setup cd.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 - Connect Ethernet Switch (for Hardwired Connections)?

Dec 29, 2011

In my main office, I have a cable modem which is connected to my main E4200 router. All of my equipment (except my Ooma) is served by the E4200. The E4200 broadcasts a wireless network. In my basement, I have a Wii / entertainment center. The E4200 signal from upstairs isn't strong enough to stream video.

I bought the WET610N and have successfully set it up to interact with the E4200 wirelss network. I can hardwire my laptop to the WET610N and verify the internet works greatHowever, the Wii must connect over wireless. I have other equipment in the basement which would benefit from an internet connection. So, I want to A) connect the ESXS88W 10/100 8-port workgroup switch I have to the WET610N *AND* also broadcast a wireless signal in my basement (assuming the wireless network I see in the basement is the same "old" one from upstairs which has not benefited from the WET610N).

How can I set up my WRT54G2 to broadcast a wireless signal in the basement so that it leverages the E4200 signal served by the WET610N, while also having the workgroup switch offer hardwired connections to my other equipment (like Dish Network receiver)? It doesn't seem to work by just plugging the WRT54G2 into the workgroup switch.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 Disconnecting From Cable Modem

Jun 10, 2011

Our router is connected through a cable modem and If I connect my computer directly wired to the cable modem, I have no problem, it does not disconnect at all.In comes the router in between, when I connect the router and connect my computer through the router WRT54G2, it works initially then I get disconnected after about 1-2 hours.  This is very regular.  I have a temporary solution by resetting the router via two ways:

1.  Go to the admin page, and perform a release and renew IP method.

2.  Simply power off the router and then on again.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT120N / PPPoE - Bridge Modem And Connect To Internet

Dec 6, 2011

I recently changed my internet connection to DSL from Cable, so now I'm using PPPoE type of connection.

Right now my router is configured as Automatic DHCP with the modem doing the PPPoE connection. All is fine and well.

Since I own a PS3, and Nat Type 3 conection is really bad for my online gaming, I would like to bridge my modem and connect to the internet through my router. That way I can properly forward my ports, use QoS and effectively get a better connection on the PS3.

I was able to successfully bridge the modem, but the PPPoE config on the router isn't able to connect to the internet.

Modem and router have been reinitialized after the configurations were changed. I do have the username and passwords, and they were properly put on the router.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 When Connect PC Directly To Modem / Configure PPPoE Connection

Mar 8, 2013

I have rather huge connection at home. DL speed 80Mb, UL speed 3Mb.When I connect my PC directly to modem and configure PPPoE connection, I get 81Mbits/sec. When I connect my old ASMAX $30 router, I get 78 Mbit/sek. And I find it OK.But when I connect my EA6500 I get 28 MBits/sec. Same result on wire as on wireless connection. Of course If I enable prioritisation, I get even less, 12-15 Mbits/sec.I tried already even configuration with ASMAX as wired router and EA6500 connected to its LAN port. It gives me 50Mbits/sec.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 / No Internet Access

Oct 28, 2011

I have a WRT54G2 router and when I try to connect to the internet, both wired and wirelessly, my network icon gives me a "No Internet Access" yellow sign icon. I have successfully connected to the internet by directly connecting to the modem and I have connected to other wireless networks using this computer so I have pretty much narrowed the problem down to the router. I have already perform a firmware upgrade to the latest version and did a hard reset of the router and setting it back up, to no avail. One problem I ran into while I was setting up though was that I can't even set it up with the WiFi-protected setup so I had to set up the password and stuff manually, as I have always done successfully in the past. I've never had a problem with this router in the past and so I think this router may be due for a replacement. I have contacted support through live chat and all the options they're giving me is either pay $25 to talk to someone about this or go through troubleshoot section.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 - Unable To Access It Via Webpage

Feb 28, 2013

I have a continuing problem with my WRT54G2 wireless router.  I set up my network, changing the password for the router, and I change the SSID, as well as the encryption password.  When I set it up, and after changing passwords etc.  I always log off, go back and log on, and it works fine.  Once I set up the network, over time, I'll notice a device will no longer connect via wireless.  When that happens, I try to log on to the router, and can not connect to the router using either Firefox or IE.  When I try, I get Internal Server Error, or just nothing.  I can ping the router, and if I run an IPCONFIG at this point, the default gateway does show 192.168.1.1.    Every time this starts to happen, I must do a hard reset of the router.  Once  I do this, I can connect, and log on using the default settings, and re-set everything.  This is a HUGE pain, as it takes a lot of time, and happens way too often.

Cisco WAN :: 5505 PPPOE Access Via VDSL Bridge Modem?

Apr 25, 2013

I just bought a 5505 to learn from and am trying to attach my VDSL modem as a transparent bridge. It goes....

Laptop   >>> (VLAN1) Cisco 5505 (VLAN2)  >>> VDSL modem >>> internet
X.X.X.10 >>> (X.X.X.254) ------ (Y.Y.Y.254)    >>> Y.Y.Y.10        >>> A.B.C.D.

I'm using the ASDM, if I configure VLAN2 with the IP address of the VDSL interface I can ping the modem from the console session via Putty. If I take that off and configure up the PPPOE client I can't ping the VDSL modem, I'd expect that. If I then add in an IP address to the PPPOE client config like I assigned to VLAN2 it doesn't ping either. If I can't ping the VDSL modem I don't expect it would work but it seems I can only either give it a static address which pings but has no pppoe or give it a PPPOE config which means I can't ping the VDSL. why I can't ping the VDSL modem when the interface is set as PPPOE with an IP address?Presumably if I'm on the ASA console doing pings from there to the modem then I'm ruling out problems with the routing from the laptop (trying to isolate where the issue is)
