Motorola SB5100 Modem / Linksys WRT54G2 Router - Internet Speed Slow?

Mar 22, 2011

So I've had this problem before and normally I solve it by simply unplugging everything from my modem and router but ive tried that this time several times to no avail. The internet suddenly cut out one day and when I did my usual unplugging thing it came back unbearably slow.Right now I'm running off a motorola SB5100 Surboard modem and a linksys WRT54G2 router and its not my computer, everyone in the house is getting terrible speed.

Motorola SB5100 / Losing Internet Connection At Cable Modem?

Mar 19, 2012

Trying to figure out if I have a bad modem or bad wiring leading to the modem.I'm losing connectivity usually in the evening when I'm sure everything is more loaded.he reason I'm concerned about the modem is that when I lose connectivity, I can't access the modem through my browser. It won't respond. This isn't just for a moment. I'll unplug the modem and plug it back in. I can access the modem after that with my browser, but more often than not, I don't regain connectivity. It keeps trying and failiing.its a Motorola SB5100 from 10 years ago. how to seperate bad wiring from a bad modem?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Incredibly Slow Internet With WRT54G2?

May 13, 2012

I recently purchased one simply because we needed a wireless router with my roommate using a new laptop. Installation went by without a hitch but when it came to actually using the internet, it was so sluggish that it was impossible to use, on either computer. In fact, I had to disconnect the router and go directly from the modem to even make this post.

I've upgraded the firmware and I thought it was fixed because the internet seemed to be moving at a decent pace (loading pages, speed tests), but then it went back to moving incredibly slow if not timing out altogether. There was a problem with random disconnects but that was something that the firmware upgrade did seem to fix outright.

Here are my network speeds with The e1000: (wireless) And here are the speeds with my old wrt54g: (Wireless) Here are the results directly hooked up to the modem: (wired)

I've tried setting the MTU to 1500, did a RMA with Linksys to see if it was a hardware problem, did a firmware update to the e1000, disabled DHCP and SPI, reseted my router and my modem....none of those things have worked

Linksys Wireless Router :: Slow Internet Speed With WRT160N?

Aug 7, 2008

I've recently purchased a WRT160N router, and I'm using it in conjunction with a WMP54G wireless PCI card. I've set the router up to my requirements, and can get a stable wireless connection.. but internet speed seems excessively slow. While I'm able to get up to around 4MB/s transferring files over the network, running speed tests, it consecutively shows my download speed to sit around 400KB/s, whereas I'm able to get a steady 1.1MB/s on another desktop that is wired. Disabling the LAN adapter on that computer, and connecting via wireless, brings down the speed that that computer is able to get to around 400KB/s as well. Hence, I don't think it's my wireless cards, but something to do with the router itself.I'm also experiencing lag spike issues in online games, which I can only attribute to the current wireless setup, because I've previously had no issues with it. All relevant ports are forwarded, so that is not an issue. After doing some Googling on the subject, someone had suggested running SpeedGuide's TCP Optimizer, and changing the RWIN - I ran it, and set it to the 'optimal' settings, and after a reboot the wireless seemed fine - I was getting just a tad under what I should (about 950KB/s).. but after a short while, it just went back to 400KB/s. After further investigation, it seems that Vista automatically changes that RWIN value to optimize network traffic.. but I never had this issue with my old wireless gear, so I can only assume that the way Vista is reacting is based on the way the router is interacting with it.

Linksys RT31P2 Router - Internet Speed Suddenly Unbearably Slow

Nov 28, 2011

My internet speed is usually instant when browsing online or gaming. At the moment it takes me 2 minutes just to load Google. So far I have been able to rule out a few reasons for this slow speed. It's not my ISP (Which is Comcast). My brother and my dad have fast connection and they are hooked up to the same router. (It has always been like that). I think it's not the router or the modem because my family's other computers are doing fine. It's not my wireless link because I jacked my brother's link and installed the software on my computer for it and the slow internet still existed.

I have a Linksys Broadband Router.Linksys Broadband Router RT31P2 Router - 3-port switch (integrated) - EN, Fast EN.I have a D-Link Wireless Router hooked up the broadband for our wireless internet connection.D-Link Wireless 2.4GHz (802.11b) Router.I have a Netgear WNA1100 Adapter for the Internet Connection. Hardware: Modem-Motorola SBV5222 Router-Linksys E2000(Cisco brand name? I didn't buy the router) I use a PC with windows xp with sp 2 and 3 installed.Problem: I can use the internet just fine when I am connected to the router, my pc is connected directly to the router via cat 5 but when I directly connect to the modem I get limited to no connectivity. I'm not using a proxy server and before the router was set up(I live with roommates who set up the wireless network.) I could connect to the modem just fine. I can't repair the connection since it seems to be unable to renew the ip address. I've also tried to manually configure my ip address though I'm sure it wasn't the issue.I've racked my brain to think of a simple solution and it doesn't seem one is apparent and I'm almost sure it's something to do with xp and I'm not so great with software.

Hook Up A Motorola 2210 Modem And Linksys WRT120N Router Without Bridging?

Sep 28, 2011

I'm not that great at networking, I'm pretty much a novice but I'm trying to connect a modem and router to my computer but get around bridging the modem if possible. You see, I am working with AT&T and their dsl modem access page only works for me if the modem is unbridged. If I bridge the modem, I cannot get on the page again to unbridge it while I am trying to hook up my router. When I need them to unbridge the modem, I have to stay on hold for hours. One guy even told me that he did unbridge the modem, but since my internet persisted not to work, he told me my ethernet card went bad of a sudden on my computer. I knew this was incorrect so after a few more hours on hold, I had a lady debate with me that she was not unbridging my modem since it was my ethernet card that was bad and not the bridging. Finally, laughing to herself, she unbridged the modem for me and it worked

Here is what I have: My modem is a Motorola 2210 Style: MSTATEA My router is a Linksys WRT120N

As of right now, I just have a LAN with my modem plugged in through an ethernet cord to my PC. Is there a way of me hooking up my Linksys router to my modem and PC without bridging the modem? If so, where can I find out instructions for this?

2.  Simply power off the router and then on again.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Motorola SB6141 Link Speed LED On Cable Modem Never Glows Blue

Feb 26, 2013

when I connect my DIR-655 to the Motorola SB6141 cable modem I notice that the link speed LED on the cable modem never glows blue indicating a gigabit connection, it only glows amber indicating a lower negotiated speed.  I am using a Cat6 cable between the two devices and have also tried a Cat5e cable.

When I try and force the WAN port speed to 1000Mpbs in the router interface the cable modem link speed will not light at all with no connectivity. Only resetting to Auto WAN port speed restores functionality albeit at the lower negotiated speed setting.

I'm running the DIR-655 rev B1 at 2.03NA firmware level.

I did connect the modem directly to my PC that uses an Intel Gigabit ethernet card and still had the lower connection indication (Amber) so it seems that the modem might be faulty.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 V1 - Access PPPoE Modem With Wired Ethernet?

Oct 13, 2011

I am using the WRT54G2 connected to a cable modem that requires a PPPoE login.  I followed the Service Providers instructions and cloned the modems MAC address to the WRT54G and setup the PPPoE user id and password.  I can then plug my PC into one of the Ethernet connections on the back of the WRT54G and everything works as expected.  First I connect to the WRT54G2 and then I open a PPPoE connection in my network settings and it logs into the service provider and everything works as expected.  But when I connect to the WRT5G2 wirelessly I connect to the AP fine.  When I open the same PPPoE connection to the service provider it fails, the message says I have the wrong userid or password or that the protocol is not supported.  Of course I know the userid and password is correct because it works when connected with Ethernet cable.  I have tried disabling the security on the wireless network but that did not seem to work. The modem is a HomePNA HCNA Voice Endpoint.I am at the latest firmware 1.0.04.

Problem is when I connect through the router I get max 3Mbit/sec.Connected via ethernet cable or Wireless (n/b+g+n) gives the same low speed results I have used the same APN (bredband.tre.se) in my router as is on the modem I have upgraded to the latest firmwares on the Router (latest firmware 5.0.5-3)I have swaped my modem to another one, to the Huawei E372 (latest firmware 11.203.05.00.00).

I have swaped my Router to another Dovado 3GN and updated to the latest firmware The modem is placed 2meters away from the router to reduce interference I have removed all my anti-virus and firewalls and I believe the router has no firewall and prior to that did a virus check, also with spyware doctor. My normal speed is around 15 Mbps but now it has dropped to about 0.85 - 1.0 Mbps. At first I thought someone might be using my connection without my knowledge so I changed the password but it was still slow. I then changed my wireless channel (I heard that if too many people are on the same channel it can cause interference) and it worked. However, a little bit later (sometimes a few hours and sometimes a few days) my connection would become slow again. I have also tried upgrading my firmware but no luck.
