My son tried to "speed up" our connection by unplugging modem&router. now can't get both talking to each other. Tried numerous steps! Bought Router 8/11/11, so NO Support from Cisco(only 90 days-POOR!). Website useless. Modem works fine with PC wired in.
View 3 RepliesI'm not that great at networking, I'm pretty much a novice but I'm trying to connect a modem and router to my computer but get around bridging the modem if possible. You see, I am working with AT&T and their dsl modem access page only works for me if the modem is unbridged. If I bridge the modem, I cannot get on the page again to unbridge it while I am trying to hook up my router. When I need them to unbridge the modem, I have to stay on hold for hours. One guy even told me that he did unbridge the modem, but since my internet persisted not to work, he told me my ethernet card went bad of a sudden on my computer. I knew this was incorrect so after a few more hours on hold, I had a lady debate with me that she was not unbridging my modem since it was my ethernet card that was bad and not the bridging. Finally, laughing to herself, she unbridged the modem for me and it worked

As of right now, I just have a LAN with my modem plugged in through an ethernet cord to my PC. Is there a way of me hooking up my Linksys router to my modem and PC without bridging the modem? If so, where can I find out instructions for this?
I've been trying to port forward my modem and router for Xbox 360 live. Only problem is, I know absolutely nothing about networking or configuring modem / router settings.Anyhow, I was told to put my modem into Bridged Ethernet mode. The software that came with the router has created two networks but is unable to connect to the internet. I have tried on both my PC and MacBook Pro and niether work. I have the modem connected directly to my Mac and can get to the internet, so I know the modem is working correctly.

I am posting while connected directly to the 2210 vial Ethernet cable. When I connect the cables between the linksys and the moto the light on the front says it sees the internet; however, I cannot ping anything except myself and it. The WRT54G ran perfectly, but did not support wireless N, so I replaced it with the Linksys E1200. The router is physically located in a good spot, up high and centrally located in my house.Problem is, my download speed on my android tablet, xBox, iPhone is very slow, yet my upload speed is screaming fast.
Wireless: Ping: 30ms, Download 1.93Mbps, Upload 6.27Mbps.
Wired: Ping: 14, Download 17.88 Mbps, Upload 6.7Mbps.
I've changed channels on my router, changed channel width. Connection type is DHCP. My security is WPA2. I use the wireless MAC filter (allow only these MAC addresses access). No parental controls, I don't use port forwarding or triggering, and my firmware is up-to-date. why my speed changed from the older router to the newer router?
I recently switched from dsl to cable. I have a e2000 router that I would still like to use. The modem I have is a Motorola Surfboard SB6121. It has no options that I can modify. The modem has a built in DHCP server. However, I can't modify it and I don't like the ip configuration it uses. For the time being I have the modem connected to a switch which is working fine. What I would like to know is how to configure the e2000 to use the modems connection. I used PPPoE for DSL and had login information.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI set up an E1200 about two weeks ago to replace our old DI-524 because our net speeds were getting throttled (the old router wouldn't support anything higher than 10mbps). The same day, we started getting modem resets (We have an SB6120). This never happened on the old router but it's constantly happening with this new one. It'll happen multiple times a day. I called Cox Tech Support and they pushed an upgrade onto the modem but it still reset. I don't think it's the router, since I don't understand why it would force the modem to reset, but this never happened before I installed it. The firmware is updated to the latest version on the Cisco site (1.0.02).
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy parents are using a speedtouch 546 modem for their wired internet connection, but they would like wireles in their home. I therefore bought them a linksys e1200, and tried to get their wireless internet working.
I connected the e1200 to the speedtouch via kabel, used the cisco software to install the wifi network, and so far so good. The laptop has no problem connecting to the e1200, but no internet connection, whatever I do.
There seems to be a signal comming into the back of the e1200, since the led on both the speedtouch and the e1200 are responding, indicating that the two are sharing some information.
Looking for information on the net, I came onto 3 possible solutions.
One is cloning the MAC adress of the to the speedtouch connected wired computer to the e1200. The second has something to do with interfering IP adress ranges. The third was uninstalling the cisco software, reconnecting and resetting the modem. Let windows find the hardware and just install the e1200 drivers.

I have no problems with internet connectivity when connecting directly from my harddrive to the Verizon modem. I am also not having trouble connecting to the Linksys routher as I am able to see my wireless connection with no problem. Pretty simple connection. Just a ethernet cable between the cable modem and E1200 internet port (Cable modem <---> E1200)

Hardware: Modem-Motorola SBV5222 Router-Linksys E2000(Cisco brand name? I didn't buy the router) I use a PC with windows xp with sp 2 and 3 installed.Problem: I can use the internet just fine when I am connected to the router, my pc is connected directly to the router via cat 5 but when I directly connect to the modem I get limited to no connectivity. I'm not using a proxy server and before the router was set up(I live with roommates who set up the wireless network.) I could connect to the modem just fine. I can't repair the connection since it seems to be unable to renew the ip address. I've also tried to manually configure my ip address though I'm sure it wasn't the issue.I've racked my brain to think of a simple solution and it doesn't seem one is apparent and I'm almost sure it's something to do with xp and I'm not so great with software.

I am trying to hook up a 2nd router to our network to extend range and allow extra ethernet connections points. The new (2nd) Router is a Linksys E1200. I have been told by multiple sources it should be possible to hook the Linksy's router to the modem/router, but I am still not sure how to. All of the directions I have read involve disconnecting the old router (in my case, the Q1000) and then connecting the new router (E1200) in order to configure it. But I am not sure how to do this with out the internet access provided by the old router. how to cascade like this while using a modem/router

The internet suddenly cut out one day and when I did my usual unplugging thing it came back unbearably slow.Right now I'm running off a motorola SB5100 Surboard modem and a linksys WRT54G2 router and its not my computer, everyone in the house is getting terrible speed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedInternet went out for 3 days straight and calling frontier about 20 times they finally gave us a new model 7500 modem to replace the previous. The linksys e1200 router which had worked perfectly fine before the new modem has decided to not allow me to connect online. Sometimes it says im connected to internet but web browser does not connect, sometimes it says no internet access. I have no idea what i am doing so im not sure if it is a modem or router issue. I have done full reboots of both and powered on correctly. plugging in the modem into ports 1-3 do not light up the modems ports lights, only port 4 seems to light up when plugged in however computers light up all the ports when hard wired to E1 - E4.i also downloaded the latest firmware update for the linksys e1200 router.All fire walls are shut off and no WEP ( we live in middle of nowhere so a key is not needed )

Plug gigabit computers into the switch, non gigabit/wireless devices into the e1200 router.
If e1200 can't handle DHCP for the switch, could I configure a DHCP linux server directly to the switch?
I don't want to limit my network to my e1200 speeds when I have a gigabit capable modem and a gigabit capable switch.
I recently borrowed a friend's desktop and I am having issues with connecting with the router through an ethernet cable. I go to troubleshoot the problem and I get "Local Area Connection 2 doesn't have a valid IP configuration". Its nothing with the router because when I plug my laptop in with the same ethernet cable, I am able to connect perfectly.

This Linksys E1200 belonged to my neighbor, but he recently passed away, and left me all his computer devices.In the Wall phone jack, I have a DSL noise filter as part as a two female plug,
1) for the Green DSL on Modem, and the other
2) to my phone handset. The way I usually plug this in BEFORE this router was this: The green DSL plug from Modem - into phone jack DSL Filter, and the Yellow ETHERNET cord from Router to the back of Computer. I powered on computer, plugged in all cords, except for E1200 power cord, disabled antivirus/security software, I then inserted the Cisco Connect CD and waited , and waited, but it said I was not connected to the Internet. ERROR CODE# 82BD0304. I'm using win7 64 Pro. before i called ATT, I wanted to know if there is an easier way to conect the right cords to the right plugs.
I am trying to get my parents Kindle Fire to work. They recently purchased a Motorola Modem/Router which is hooked into the desktop and works fine. I want to get their new kindle to work and can not seem to figure it out. Their operating system is Vista which I can upgrade to Windows 7 if that would make it easier. When I click on setup the WiFi part of the installation wizard cd that came with the Motorola it says there is not a network adapter. I know what that is however I do not know why I would need it when the desktop is hooked directly into modem/router and I just need the WiFi for Kindle.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a 192.168.1.xxx network connected to Verizon FIOS via Actiontec MOCA / router. I also have a 192.168.15.xxx network connected to Comcast via Motorola VT2442 router (used for Vonage) and a Motorola SB6121 cable modem.
Each network has it's own gigabit switch connected to each router. The two networks are physically separated but switches and routers are physically side by side.
What is the best configuration to allow devices on 192.168.1.xxx network to communicate with devices on the 192.168.15.xxx network (share printers, NAS, etc), but still have each network served by it's respective ISP, and each device still get it's dhcp, dns, gateway, etc from each respective router?
I have a Linksys E1200 modem and I am only getting less than 1.0 mbps download speeds. When connected via ethernet cable to the router, my download speed is > 50 mbps.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got a new E2500 and out of the box the system uses the same SSID for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Obviously you CAN configure them to use different SSID's, though. Should I make them different or keep them the same? I don't really want to mess around with having 2 different SSID's if I don't get a real benefit.Will most devices that support both (like a new laptop) find and use the 5 automatically?
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe EA4500 web-settings application asks for a username and password. The username is "admin" and the password is my long (60 character) wpa key. I see where I can change the password but it says I'll lose all wireless connections. This doesn't make sense to me. I would think the router administration username and password are completely separate from the ssid and wpa key. This was the case with my earlier LinkSys router. I'd like a router administration username to be something other than the generic "admin" and a password that is easier than my long wpa key. I want a separate ssid and wpa key (what I currently have).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an E3000 Dual Band. On my 5Ghz channel, I can select Auto(DFS) or I can manually select a channel.First of all, what does the DFS stand for? My 2.4 GhZ channel only has Auto, not Auto(DFS).
Second, when I select Auto(DFS), my wireless speed defaults to 144Mbps, and is only a single channel (I can see it in the in SSIDer utility). When I manually select a channel, no matter what channel it is, I get 300mbps and I can see that the signal is two channels (for instance, 36+40). Why Auto(DFS) doesn't automatically select the best channel and fastest speed?
I got my WRT54GL v1.1 yesterday and connected it to my pc [wired] and netbook [wireless]. I thought all was well until I noticed that my Magic Jack VoIP telephone began dropping calls after about 1 minute. My first course of action was to disable SPI firewall in router and reboot. That had no affect on the situation, then I noticed that my send light on my cale modem [ no manufacturer listed on unit] was not blinking as it has done before the router installation. I reverted to my cable modem to pc only set up and my Magic Jack worked just fine. I need to use the router for wireless, so I need to find a solution to this problem. I took a look at my firmware version and saw that it was not current, but I wanted to bring my problem here for a possible solution be for I flashed new firmware.
