I have a situation where a legacy and vestigial Linksys RTP300 that's unconnected to any phones but only to the LAN seems to screw up call transfers between Vonage numbers on phones attached to a single Vonage V-Portal that's also on the same LAN. Inbound and outbound calls are unaffected. Removing the Linksys RTP300 seems to fix the issue.why this would be happening considering the RTP300 isn't connected whatsoever to any phones?
And why only call transfers are affected (attempts to transfer calls just sends calls to voicemail even if the other line isn't off-hook or otherwise in use). The network is flat where the Vonage V-Portal, the Linksys RTP300 and a single small 8-port switch are directly attached to the five built-in switch ports of a firewall router, with the WAN port of the firewall router attached to a T1 CSU/DSU.

I got a brand new wireless router and made it the first in line with my cable modem. This is necessary because I want to take advantage of all the features in the new router. I put the RTP300 behind the first router and switched off DHCP and connected the internet port into one of the 4 regular ports on the back (typical configuration for a pass through router). So everything works perfectly for any computer attached to the router (they can access the internet etc). The only problem I have is the VOIP doesn't work. If I pick up my phone it says this device is not registered to a phone number.

A few months ago I purchased an e2500 Cisco Linksys router to use in my home. This past Christmas, my family got about 4 new wifi devices which they added to the network bringing the total number of devices on my home network to 10. I wanted to know if there are any advanced settings in Cisco Connect that I can tweak to make my wifi speeds faster because right now I'm getting about 55 Mbps on most of my devices. I was also wondering what the typical range of the e2500 router was and if the e4200 offers a large improvement.

Manually type http://192.168.1.1/Wireless_Advanced.asp and the Advanced Wireless Settings tab appears! (I found this info in dd-wrt forum). A lot more settings to play with here, including transmission power for both 5GHz and 2.4GHz.

I've got a WPA wireless network set up that utilizes a total of 4 WRT54GL routers as access points (on channels 1, 6, and 11 [the two APs furthest from each other both utilize 11). Each AP generally supports about 5 clients at a time (though sometimes as high as 10).Generally, everything is working, but the clients furthest from the access points occasionally lose their connections, and some users have reported periods when they are completely unable to obtain an IP. I am virtually certain that this is based on poor signal strength resulting from distance from the APs and/or RF interference from other APs in the building. I have done everything possible to improve signal strength by router placement, optimizing channel usage based upon RF surveys, and upgrading to high-gain omnis.
This leaves nothing to do apart from tweaking the advanced wireless settings to marginally improve problems related to weak signal and/or RF interference, so I've been reading everything I can find on these boards and elsewhere about changing Fragmentation Threshold, RTS threshold, and beacon interval. However, I'm left with the following questions.
1) There seems to be disagreement about Fragmentation threshold and RTS threshold settings. Some (including the Linksys Technical Troubleshooting Wizard) recommend that both be set to 2304. I have also seen people insist that Fragmentation be set to 2306 and RTS to 2304. A few recommend 2306 for both thresholds, and some advise 2306 for Fragmentation and 2307 for RTS (though by my limited understanding, it simply disables RTS when the value is higher than the fragmentation threshold value). Which of these settings is best? And more importantly, WHY is it the best? Generally, I understand what the settings do, but I am reluctant to change them when there doesn't seem to be a consensus about exactly what they should be.
2) With respect to beacon interval, I've seen both 75ms and 50ms recommmended to replace the default of 100ms. For a network of my size (4 APs, averaging 5 users each), will increasing the number of beacons (and hence the RF traffic even when the network is idle) pose a problem? Also, I'm a little less clear as to how this would improve connectivity.
Since these settings will affect all users, I want to make sure that I'm using settings that will be beneficial on the whole. The last thing I want to do is inadvertantly make things worse, and since I can't test things directly from the standpoint of each user.

I am interested to know if there is anywhere (even in the code) where i can play with the guest network settings?
*. ability to change the default webpage login for guest network
*. Ability to set a lease time for guest network
*. Ability to use special characters in the password (@!$%)
is it even possible or an open source firmware is the way to go?

I use to use 2 routers, one for me and my dad, another for my brother and sister. We decided to get rid of the other router, and make our cisco E2000 our main router, but, everything on the router settings got removed so we had to reset it up. I remember reading an advanced setting guide on making my wireless speed go from 13.5MBPS to 216 MBPS, but i forgot what the settings was in advance settings.

I am using the WRT54G2 connected to a cable modem that requires a PPPoE login. I followed the Service Providers instructions and cloned the modems MAC address to the WRT54G and setup the PPPoE user id and password. I can then plug my PC into one of the Ethernet connections on the back of the WRT54G and everything works as expected. First I connect to the WRT54G2 and then I open a PPPoE connection in my network settings and it logs into the service provider and everything works as expected. But when I connect to the WRT5G2 wirelessly I connect to the AP fine. When I open the same PPPoE connection to the service provider it fails, the message says I have the wrong userid or password or that the protocol is not supported. Of course I know the userid and password is correct because it works when connected with Ethernet cable. I have tried disabling the security on the wireless network but that did not seem to work. The modem is a HomePNA HCNA Voice Endpoint.I am at the latest firmware 1.0.04.

I'm curious on what each property does and, which property/value would be most "effective" or "appropriate" for a certain location/situation I'm in.

I have a problem with RV042. My ISP gives me automaticly IP address and i had no problems using different types of routers, including linksys routers. With RV042 i just can't get the IP. It says, the port is up, i see the packets/traffic, front control light is blinking but it never receives the dhcp settings, doesn't matter if i use wan1, wan2, dual wan mode or single wan. I have the newest firmare 1.3.12.19tm. System statistics says "disconnected" but the packets come in and go out. Log shows absolutely nothing. I also disabled firewall but it didn't work. I can't seem to find the older 1.3.12.6 firmware.

If I connect my ps3 wirelessly to the Actiontec, it immediately sees the playon server and streams movies without issue. However, when I hardwire the PS3 to the DIR-655, it will not pickup the playon server connected to the Actiontec router.I've got dhcp turned off and multicasting turned on under advanced settings of the Dlink.

I purchased and set-up the EA4500 on Thursday. Friday my ISP (Charter) was out and worked on connection for over 2 hours due to slowness issues. Connected directly to modem I get normal ping times on whichever computer is connected. When I get the computer connected by the router (hard wired) I get very long ping responses up to 900ms. They are all over the place 30ms (I can live with that), up to the 900's. I contacted Linksys support last night, who had me update to the cloud firmware and change MT U to 1300, have not noticed a difference. I did end up doing a hard reset on the router last night after I lost tech support. We were disconnected with router rebooted, and I didn't have the patience to connect again last night.
It was so slow on my work computer, a pint to yahoo timed out. The computers connecting to router are
XP SP3 (mine)
Win 7 Home (IPV6 turned off)
Work laptop that uses VPN and VOIP

I have an e2000 wireless router and have several devices connected by ethernet cable including private data on an external hard drive. I am planning to allow a tenant in another building connect via an ethernet cable connected to my router. Can I limit that computer (tenant's computer) from accessing all other devices connected by ethernet cable to my router? I know can password protect wireless access and limit access to the internet that way -- but my question is specifically to connections by ethernet cable.

My E4200 router no longer accepts any WIRED connections. I can connect from the modem to the computer and everything works as expected. I can connect other computers wirelessly to the router. I cannot connect any laptops WIRED to the router. Nothing has changed on the systems to restrict internet access. There is something wrong with the router and the WIRED ports. I tried going through the troubleshooting on this site but it was of little to no assistance. The Cisco Connect utility doesn't appear to accomplish anything either. My guess is because I cannot connect to the WIRED ports on the router to connect to the internet to allow for whatever troubleshooting that needs to be done.

I have a home network with a wired BEFSR41 that, for a variety of reasons, MUST be manually IP configured (DHCP off). All computers and other devices connected to it are manually IP configured. I desire to add a device that cannot be manually configured, and needs DHCP. I therefore need to daisy-chain two routers with the second one DHCP on (and manual IP connection to the main network). The new device needs two-way internet access, but doesn't care if it sees any other current network devices. I've tried several configurations, none seem to work.

I have a WAP54G in my basement shop, wired to our main router upstairs, which is a Linksys BEFSR81. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the WAP or the router.
I only use the laptop computer in the shop every couple of days, but I leave the laptop plugged in and on most of the time. I used to have the power settings such that it didn't power down completely even after a long time. With that setup, if i didn't use the computer for several days, it would find that the connection to the router had died. The wireless link would report that it had a solid connection, but I couldn't connect to anything. Power cycling the WAP always fixed this.
Recently, I decided to save some wear & tear on the laptop drive, and adjusted the power settings to go to standby after a couple of hours. Now, it seems I can't even go one day without losing my connection.
I am running the latest frimware in the WAP, and the router is version 3.1. I can't check the firmware version on the router at the moment, because the web interface is giving me a blank screen. I know from past experience that I will have to power cycle it to get it to talk to me again.
In any event, it seems like the router connection to the WAP is timing out. I set the router "client lease time" up to 10000 a while back when I first had this problem, but that is clearly not doing the trick.

I installed a Linksys WRT54G2 router earlier this year and set my Siemens modem from AT&T(Actually from SBC before the two merged) in bridge mode. I did this so I could change the NAT setting on our internet, which was interfering with my Xbox. It worked for about 4 or 5 months with little to no problems. Recently, however, the internet has been disconnecting and when I check the status page on the router it says it is disconnected. Sometimes clicking on the connect button will work, but usually it will say "Connecting" and keep refreshing the page for a little while without any change, then give me a message saying it couldn't get the IP from the PPPoe server. Turning it and the Siemens modem on and off and fiddling around seems to solve the problem, but only temporarily. Interestingly enough, I don't think it ever interferes with my Xbox. Until recently, the Xbox was set as the highest priority on the QoS page, but I changed the computer to the highest priority and it hasn't worked. In addition, the small, thin green light bar just below the Linksys logo on the top of the router has just recently started changing to orange occasionally

I've been using my EA4500 since it's original launch date as a PPPoE router through another router/modem which is the Netgear DG834G V4 set to Modem Only mode which was working fine for a long time!A month ago, a friend wanted to borrow the Netgear Router and after he gave it back I reset it like I always do and entered my settings in router mode(i.e. username and password) to check if I havewe working Internet connection and that the router is working properly and it was working properly like it was before I lent it. Now comes the problem, if I keep using the Netgear router as the PPPoE handler and make the EA4500 work as "Automatic Configuration DHCP" it works flawlessly but if I set the Netgear router to modem mode and make the EA4500 handle the PPPoE connection, the report in the troubleshooting tab keeps on saying "Connecting" endlessly!
Note: I've replicatedthe settings that I used on both router before and after lending it to my friend so there's no difference in settings!
