Type of Wireless Adapter I have: Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN When I click on (Properties) and then click the (Advanced) tab, there is a list of properties on the left and a list of values to choose from on the right. I'm curious on what each property does and, which property/value would be most "effective" or "appropriate" for a certain location/situation I'm in.

This past Christmas, my family got about 4 new wifi devices which they added to the network bringing the total number of devices on my home network to 10. I wanted to know if there are any advanced settings in Cisco Connect that I can tweak to make my wifi speeds faster because right now I'm getting about 55 Mbps on most of my devices. I was also wondering what the typical range of the e2500 router was and if the e4200 offers a large improvement.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a DIR-655 that I use as a wireless access point/switch (dhcp off) behind my Actiontec Verizon Fios router. The DIR-655 is in the basement and has my PS3 and Xbox hard wired to it.I've got playon server setup on my pc upstairs which is connected wireless to the Actiontec router. If I connect my ps3 wirelessly to the Actiontec, it immediately sees the playon server and streams movies without issue. However, when I hardwire the PS3 to the DIR-655, it will not pickup the playon server connected to the Actiontec router.I've got dhcp turned off and multicasting turned on under advanced settings of the Dlink.

I've got a WPA wireless network set up that utilizes a total of 4 WRT54GL routers as access points (on channels 1, 6, and 11 [the two APs furthest from each other both utilize 11). Each AP generally supports about 5 clients at a time (though sometimes as high as 10).Generally, everything is working, but the clients furthest from the access points occasionally lose their connections, and some users have reported periods when they are completely unable to obtain an IP. I am virtually certain that this is based on poor signal strength resulting from distance from the APs and/or RF interference from other APs in the building. I have done everything possible to improve signal strength by router placement, optimizing channel usage based upon RF surveys, and upgrading to high-gain omnis.
This leaves nothing to do apart from tweaking the advanced wireless settings to marginally improve problems related to weak signal and/or RF interference, so I've been reading everything I can find on these boards and elsewhere about changing Fragmentation Threshold, RTS threshold, and beacon interval. However, I'm left with the following questions.
1) There seems to be disagreement about Fragmentation threshold and RTS threshold settings. Some (including the Linksys Technical Troubleshooting Wizard) recommend that both be set to 2304. I have also seen people insist that Fragmentation be set to 2306 and RTS to 2304. A few recommend 2306 for both thresholds, and some advise 2306 for Fragmentation and 2307 for RTS (though by my limited understanding, it simply disables RTS when the value is higher than the fragmentation threshold value). Which of these settings is best? And more importantly, WHY is it the best? Generally, I understand what the settings do, but I am reluctant to change them when there doesn't seem to be a consensus about exactly what they should be.
2) With respect to beacon interval, I've seen both 75ms and 50ms recommmended to replace the default of 100ms. For a network of my size (4 APs, averaging 5 users each), will increasing the number of beacons (and hence the RF traffic even when the network is idle) pose a problem? Also, I'm a little less clear as to how this would improve connectivity.
Since these settings will affect all users, I want to make sure that I'm using settings that will be beneficial on the whole. The last thing I want to do is inadvertantly make things worse, and since I can't test things directly from the standpoint of each user.
I use to use 2 routers, one for me and my dad, another for my brother and sister. We decided to get rid of the other router, and make our cisco E2000 our main router, but, everything on the router settings got removed so we had to reset it up. I remember reading an advanced setting guide on making my wireless speed go from 13.5MBPS to 216 MBPS, but i forgot what the settings was in advance settings.

I am attempting to upgrade my internal wireless adapter to the Intel Advanced N 6235 card.After installing the new wireless card and loading the latest drivers from Intel, the card is not working correctly. The problem is that my computer shows "no connections available". Device Manager says the card is installed properly and that it is working properly however there are no wireless connections for me to connect to including my own.

For the past couple of weeks the strength of the signal as measured by the Intel proset tools goes from excellent to poor in the space of 60 seconds, back and forth. It seems to do this on all channels from 1 to 13. It definitely is affecting Internet performance. I have the security set at WPA-Personal in an attempt to try and stabilise the network. I have also been using iSSIDer to try and find the best channel since there are about 10 other wireless networks from other houses around me. I have a D-Link 645 router which is admittedly about 10 metres and 2 or 3 walls away. However, until a fortnight ago, the network was dead stable showing a strong signal (4 or 5 bars (-50). Now it is all over the place. Could it be a damaged card?

It randomly gets disconnected from my router (Zyxel P-2601HN-F1) and home network, works fine though if i using cable. Right after it gets disconnected it reconnects and works fine until it gets disconnected again. I have an HP laptop connected at the same time and no problems there.It works fine in the network in our office (work laptop). I tried our IT dept but they were clueless and told me I had to figure it out by myself, as it works in the office..
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Time Warner Cable business class service with no static IP, with a wireless modem which is plugged to a CAT5 distribution panel. On the jacks (2 other rooms on the house) I have a Linksys E3000 and a Linksys Valet router for signal boost and gadgets usage (TV, cameras, etc).The main router (TWC) has it's own external IP which TWC assigns to me and internally distributes via DHCP the range 192.168.0.x. With that said:
- The E3000 has a 192.168.0.6 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The Valet has a 192.168.0.7 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The main router has the 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and web-interface
Whenever I connect something to the E3000, it is distributing the 192.168.1.x range and the valet 192.168.2.x range.That works perfectly for my home based business until I decided to use more stuff on the network such as a IP printer, IP cameras, etc.
- The IP cameras are connected to the E3000 due to signal strength and I have manually assigned them the 192.168.1.15 and 192.168.1.16 IPs and ports 9001 and 9002.
- The printer is connected to the E3000 and I have manually assigned the IP 192.168.1.30.
Issue 1: Port forwarding On the main router (TWC - UBEE) I have tried to setup a port forwarding by informing the Local IP as 192.168.0.6 (E3000 IP), Internal Port 0, Public Interface IP (0.0.0.0), Ext Start Port 9001, Ext End Port 9001, Protocol - Both, Enabled Yes. On the E3000 I did the same config (screen shot attached e3000.png).This is not working properly. I can't get into the camera.
Issue 2: Printer/ The printer is only accessible if I connect to the E3000 (because it is on the 192.168.1.x network)
Issue 3: How to configure all the devices on the same subnet? If I want everyone to be on the 192.168.0.x network, how to configure properly the E3000 and the Valet? I have tried to force them into the same network but it would not work properly. It would not get an IP from the UBEE router (main).
I am trying to access the settings webapge so that I can delete computers from the scan list. When I select the settings link it attempts to open the page but then the lights on the adapter start to flash and it seems to lose the connection with it ....... The other links e.g. status, information and security seem to work OK provided they are aceessed before I select the settings link. One the lights have started to flash I have to switch off the adapter and switch back to restore the connection to the network. The adapter is connected to a BTHomehub. Other than this issue the printer works fine through the network.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI use my desktop for streaming media throughout the house. I found it was causing lag for gaming most likely because it was taking up all the bandwidth for the router. We had a 2nd router laying around as well as a 2nd wireless adapter so we set up a 2nd network that was not connected to the internet for strictly media streaming.I attempted to change the network settings so the internet connection appeared as a public network so that streaming of media was hopefully diverted to the non internet wireless adapter.I want a faster way of transferring large video files from my laptop to my desktop. I recently bought a crossover cable to do this through direct connection.Both use the same user name and password as well as run the same win 7 pro however the desktop is the 64 bit version. I set up both ipv4 with the same addresses.When it has worked I am only getting a connection speed of just over 10mb and once I connect the crossover cable between the computers it knocks out my internet connection on the wireless card.

I am running ACS 5.2 (more detail below) eval demo version for a proof of concept and noticed an oddity.. It appears that if you create a Endstation Filter and click the CLI/DNIS tab, click Create and then click DNIS and enter your info ex: *coolssid and hit submit it shows everything correctly, but if you go back and edit it. it swaps them.

We purchased a Cisco 541w router for one of our customers.
The main reason was to provide them with 3g backup solution for their business.
In order for the router to recognise the 3G router the firmware was upgraded SRP540_1.02.01_023_081211_1136.
We arrived on site last night to do the install but couldn't make any changes to the already configured router. Every time we attempted add a vlan or adjust the dhcp scope the router would return "The values are invalid".
Worked at this for over 1 hour and then decided to factory reset the router to see if that would revert the router to use the original firmware.
This didn't revert to the previous firmware but we magically could now make network changes without problem.
So everything was good, we reconfigured the router, tested 3G and failed the wan1 interface back and forth and the customer was very happy.
Customer arrived onsite this morning and the router was running on 3G. Every 8 - 10 minutes it was attempting a failover between connections.
I decided to turn off the failover for the time being and investigate further but yet again i was back to "the values are invalid"
We've had to pull the router as the customer is about 2hours away and revert back to their BT router.
Found this document for another SRP model - A warning message may appear in the Basic Wireless Settings screen with the text “The values are invalid” when modifying the wireless profile. Set the SRP 521W to its default setting (CSCtd49614).

I have a WLC 2106 with 3 APs. Everything works and users can connect, but the throughput seem to be lower than it should (it is around 8Mbps and should be around 30-50Mbps). And all speed and duplex has been accounted for.
I am trying to understand the stats that I see for the 802.11 MAC counters I under the Wireless APs.on the controller.
That screenshot is attached. I see high numbers for the following areas:
- Tx Failed Count
- RTS Failure Count
- FCS Error Count
what these mean and what could cause this? Maybe these are normal and not a concern.

The docs say to create a TACACS Shell Profile, and add the TACACS A/V Pairs as needed... . nowhere could I find a listing of AV Pairs I can use to grant authorization. The IOS version in question can only be installled on an 8MB version of this switch, I have tried to confirm the amount of memory present in the device but I am getting conflicting values depending on where I look.The model number would indicate that this device is a 4MB version, therefore not compatable with the upgrade.Running the show version command from the CLI shows Processor having 8192K/1024K bytes of memory.Accessing the switch via the VMS management interface displays a value of 4MB.

Are there multiple OIDs that would correspond to the multiple SSIDs? I'm running 2 SSIDs on all of them, and it would be extra nice to be able to track number of stations on each SSID, though the total number would also be acceptable as well.
