View 2 RepliesA few months ago, I purchase, installed and configured a WRT 160N V3. And I couldn't be happier. I now would like to go back and change the passphrase that a user needs to enter when they connecting to my router. Currently it uses the default value. And I would like to make it a bit more friendly. I found a number of postings dealing with setting retrieving or changing the Admin password.
But I was not able to find anything on changing the “passphrase”. There probably are a number of postings on the subject, and I simply overlooked them.
How do I change the IP address on the router?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a WRT160N that I've been using with my HDTV for months. Now I want to connect a BluRay player to it, but the setup requires me to enter a security code, and the one I had for the router doesn't work. Can I change the number, or at least double-check the number I do have?
View 4 Replies View RelatedBeen using the WRT160N for a while now and it works great except for one issue. Every few weeks the wireless can't be accessed by the other computers unless I change the SSID name. It was frustrating to figure out, but simply changing the name makes it accessible again.

I connected the Router to the modem, and all the wired connected PCs were working perfectly. But then, i went to the setup page to configure the Wireless settings, and as soon I changed the SSID name, the connection internet connection droppedThe only way i had to fix this was by making a Hard Reset.after that, I also tryed changing values and settings from all the configuration tabs, and the wired connection was working properly, but as soon i changed any value from the Wireless tab, the internet connection dropped (even, in the diagnostics section, i could not do a ping to google. It says unknown host).
How do you change channels on a router or modem???
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a new iPhone and need access to our home network. Can't find or remember the wi-fi password. Want to change it. We have a Linksys WRT160N V3
View 2 Replies View RelatedI set up EA6500. All kinds of problems with anything on the 2.4 MHz band. My wireless desktop on the 5.0 MHz band was flawless. So I ran Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector (freeware). The router is transmitting two 2.4 MHz signals! One is the SSID I set up and named. The other one is identical in every way except that the BSSID is slightly different. It is a non-broadcasted SSID that shows up on every device as "Other Network." I was on the phone with Cisco Support tonite, and they were great as usual but had no answer. If you change the channel on the 2.4 MHz band, the shadow network also changes to the same channel (this blew the Tech's mind). We reset the router to factory settings and started over. They are calling me back tomorrow. This router has great features on paper, but so far, it has not delivered.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe Cisco E4200 is supposed to support something called DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection). These are wifi channels that, due to radar operating on the same frequencies in certain areas of the US, the FCC requires devices using them to do what's called "radar avoidance" -- they're supposed to scan the channel periodically and, if a radar signal is detected on said channel, they have to vacate the channel for a specified period of time (typically around 30 minutes). Because of this, a DFS channel cannot be selected manually by the user -- it has to be selected automatically and vacated automatically in case radar is detected. So, I have my E4200 channel set to "Auto(DFS)"
The list of WLAN channels is here: [URL]
More background: each allowed 5 GHz channel is 20 MHz wide in the US. However 802.11n does what's called "channel bonding" -- it actually uses two channels side-by-side for increased throughput. E4200 owners will notice a channel width setting and one of the options is 40 MHz or Auto (20 MHz or 40 MHz) -- this is what uses two channels combined. I happen to have this option set to "Auto (20 MHz or 40 MHz)".
I discovered, through experimentation, that the router will ALWAYS select channel 149/153 as the operating channel if there are no other wireless APs in the area (channel 149 as primary and channel 153 as secondary). I always wanted to see the AP select a DFS channel, so I brought home a bunch of access points and started occupying spectrum. I put AP #1 on channel 149/153 and rebooted my E4200, at which point it picked channel 157/161. So I put AP #2 on channel 157/161 and rebooted the E4200, and it skipped channel 165 (note that there's not enough spectrum up there for 40 MHz, which is probably why it got skipped) and selected channel 36/40. I put AP #3 on channel 36/40 and rebooted the E4200 and to no surprise it picked channel 44/48. So I put AP #4 on channel 44/48 and it picked...channel 149/153?!?!
Just to be certain that there isn't a certain threshold required to force the AP to select a DFS channel, I moved all 4 APs RIGHT NEXT TO the E4200 such that their signal strengths exceeded -40 dBm, and then rebooted the E4200. It STILL picked channel 149/153!
Just what are the criteria required for the E4200 to select a DFS channel?!? DFS is advertised in the user menu, but I can't find any way to get the AP to select one of those channels. Does the AP *really* support them, or does it just say it does? If the E4200 does NOT really support DFS, then Cisco/Linksys should remove the term "DFS" from the user menu -- it is deceptive!!
Oh, I should mention that I'm in Santa Clara County -- Saratoga, CA. I checked the FCC database on radars and as far as I can tell, there are NO radars on DFS frequencies around here.
What Radio Channels are available for selection when operating the EA4500 in Wireless-N (5 GHz) mode only? I need to find a router that can be specifically set on channel 120 in the UK
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo anyone can use this channels without any restrictions and without register this AP.So how can i use this channels on my newely purchased EA3500? from drop down menus only low range is available.ive tried 2 different FW from linksys site (Cisco FW and Smart WiFi FW) in both i cant use this frequences .Also for this router no alternate FW available because inside Marvell chipsets (im not understood correctly why, but i suppose all about "closed FW").Also ive tried to change timezones (in hope that this range is magically appear), but magic not happened. So i have question: why i cant use this 5gHz range when its legal in my country?May be Linksys support watch on this problem and release new firmware for Russia with support of this channels? Also i knew that E3200 have this range enabled on default FW, but not on EA3500.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have read various forum postings saying to get the best performance from a wifi router you have to use channel 149 or greater and that 36-48 have a weaker signal strength and thus less range/speed.I live in New Zealand and when I select the wireless channel drop list for the 5GHz band it only lists 5 options - Auto (dfs), 36, 40, 44 and 48. I have read forum posts of people stating you should switch to 149 or greater and I have seen screenshots showing the drop list with 149 selected. But I don't have that option. If I check the Status > Wireless page it shows that channel 36 is being used (for Auto).Am I doing something wrong? Do E3000's in this part of the world not support 149 etc?I spoke in a live chat to a support rep who told me that all E3000's are the same everywhere in the world and there was little to no difference in firmware between them. I was also told that channels 36-48 are high gain channels and so there is no need for the other channels, which contradicts other articles I have read which state 36-48 are weaker channels.
View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing firmware 1.0.01, has anyone successfully gotten the E4200 to bond two channels using the 2.4GHz spectrum? I just can't get it to bond. I assume it's a firmware issue, yet to be fixed. I've tried settings Auto (20 or 40), and nada. It has never bonded. The 5 GHz bonds fine. There are a few interferences by the neighbours wifi, but nothing substantial that should prevent bonding. I have this router at school too, and the same thing happens there, with the same firmware, so I doubt it's an interference issue. I'm using WPA2 Personal encryption. I tried auto channel, and setting channels to 1, 3, 5, and 11, nothing changed.
I know I'm not bonded because A. Max link speed is ~144Mbps, and B. using a program like inSSIDer tells me I'm only using one channel on the 2.4Ghz spec.

View 7 Replies View Relatedconfirm if the highest speed I can get over WiFi with WRT160N v3 is actually 270 Mbps (and not 300 Mbps as advertised), And there's one more thing - is it normal to have Signal: -51; Noise: -93, SNR: 43, Signal quality 53% if I am only 2 meters far from a router? TX power is set to 28.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a wrt160n v3. This is the 3rd one - both the first 2 were defective. I have spent approximately 8 hours troubleshooting the other 2 only to be told they're defective. So, I got a new one. Now, this one keeps cutting in and out. I want as my iPhone constantly switches from 3G to wifi on and over every minute. It really ticks me off! What can I do to fix this? This is a different issue than the original one (very slow) and 2nd (no signal). It's disappointing for a $90 router to do this. I also see the wireless icon on the router flash.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a WRT160N v3 Linksys Router and it keeps disconnecting and then reconnecting. It only disconnects wirelessly. LAN still works fine.I have tried a lot of different methods to solve this issue, but none seem to work.I am very dissappointed in the quality of the product. It has done this every since it was bought. I personally would have sent it in for repairs, but others in my household would not have agreed to that.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a FIOS setup with their Router/modem providing DHCP and Wireless routing. The problem I have is that I have a mix of older equipment and newer equipment. The newer equipment is capable of supporting WPA2, the older is not. I would like the benefits of WPA2, but still would like to at times be able to use the older equipment. My solution was to use a WRT160N v2 router that I had as an access point and it also gives me switch capabilities for wired systems as the FIOS router in on a different floor than the Linksys router. Wired access works just fine and the wireless worked fine until just recently.Since both routers have the same default IP addresses I changed the Linksys to a different static IP and turned off DHCP. I left all of the other defaults the same. I set up the Linksys for WEP and created the key for security. Everything worked fine for the better part of a year, but recently I am having problems where some of the computers cannot find the network or find it then lose connection.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am considering to purchase a Linksys Wireless router, but I just don't know which one to select. There are so many different types that seem to have very similar (if not equal) specs. If I just limit myself to the WRT120N, the WRT160N and the E1000, they all have 4 ethernet ports (10/100), and they all support 802.11 b/g/n for the wireless part.Obviously they all promise a blazing performance, and wireless coverage throughout the whole house, without (many) blind spots. But if their specs are the same, why are they different types?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a WRT 160N v2 router. There's 1 computer wired to it, that works fine. Then I have 2 laptops and a pc wireless to it. One laptop is a mac and that seems to be fine, another is a Compaq notebook that has trouble connecting and the pc has the same problem. The signal strength is very good to excellent so thats not the issue. What happens with the pc is, it will connect but at times its only for a few seconds then it disconnects. Sometimes restarting the computer fixes it for a while but it will eventually start having the problem again. It detects the wireless network just fine, and the router's firmware is up to date. I have a feeling that its the settings in the router but im not sure what to change.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two computers on hard line and two laptops. All computers on the line work fine and flawlessly. But when I try to connect the laptops to the computer, they say there's a problem with the certificate. Both detect the connection, and with strong enough signal strength. I've tried WPA and WEP encryption methods, and disabling encryption methods. All had no change. I believe the problem lies with this Wi-Fi Protected Setup stuff, which I have no clue as to what the hell it's supposed to do. I've tried disabling it by turning it to manual, which all computers then lose internet connection entirely. Browsing the FAQ's, I havn't found a solution. I've been working on this thing for a solid 7 and a half hours straight, and phone support is trying to make me configure static IPs, which proved extremely inconvenient in the past.
