Linksys Wireless Router :: Cisco EA4500 How To Increase NAT Timeout
Oct 29, 2012
I purchased and installed a new EA4500 wireless router. At the same time i had a new Voip phone system installed as well which i'm having issues with. The main issue is that my phones communicate with the service every 240 seconds....the issue is that my NAT timeout is below that 240 threshold. Thus my phones go in and out constantly. increasing the NAT Timeout.

I have my router and modem in an upstairs office. I get terrific signal strenth and wifi connections throughout 80% of my home. I would like to shore up that remaining 20%.
I cannot realistically move my EA4500 to a "more central" locationBefore purchasing this router, I used a netgear + netgear extender. They worked horrifically together along with my wifi devices - they dropped signals every 4-5 minutes, even with bare-bones data usage. (I've had no connectivity issues, thus far, with the Linksys product)My home has two levels - no basement, no crazy concrete walls or anything. I figured on installing an extender OR another EA4500 downstairs to extend my signal. How two EA4500's work together, if anyone has a similar set up, compared to how (and what model) an extender may work to boost my signal distance in this situation. Primarily, in that "20%" deadzone, I need to use an iPad / iPhone - nothing that would consume tons of bandwidth.

The GUI times out after 60 seconds.
Since the the "exec-timeout" setting has a default of 10 minutes (if I'm not mistaken), I don't think I could change the timeout value with that command.
Under the "Association" tab of the GUI, there is an "Activity Timeout" subtab and settings for 5 device classes, all set at 60 seconds.
I would guess the setting in question can be configured here. Is the client station device class what I'm after?

I've been using the WRT310N and noticed that the range is quite poor--I've noticed this in two different houses.I've tried using an old repeater but it is a G repeater so it seems to actually make things worse i.e. a remote device will work slightly better with an unrepeated N signal than a repeated G (router is a in mixed mode).

I have a cisco WAG120N with me.wifi range is very less, means my devices won't catch the wifi even if they are 5 meters away from the router. Ways to increase the wifi range of this router. I dont want to use any repeater or any such stuff, just want to achieve a far more range with te existing device.

We have a new e1000 router that was having trouble reaching the TV for Netflix movie streaming. Too many walls and too much distance. A simple solution was to direct the signals from the router by placing aluminum foil behind the router so all the signal was going towards the TV rather than in an 360 degree circle. Now the streaming works great! After the movie is done I remove the foil and everything looks just like it should.

I have a Cisco-Linksys WRT310N V2 Wireless-N Gigabit Router and was wondering if there is a setting (which I could not find in the admin control panel) to increase the range to catch internet connection. My house is large, and one portion has a bad connection to it because the router is sitting upstairs on the other end. If there is no setting, is there a external add on I can get to increase the internet range?

if Linksys will be increasing the size limitation of the E4200 USB storage devices? Will the next firmware allow larger drive sizes? I only bought the thing to share via the router my digital content that is stored on an 8TB external device. What is the perpose to the limit in the first place? Is this a hardware or software limitation of the device?

I have an Cisco EA2700 router and a Motorola SB6121 modem. If I'm connected to the router wirelessly or through any of the lan ports, I can't visit the modem's diagnostics page at 192.168.100.1. If I connect directly to the modem, it works fine. Also I cannot ping the modem through the router, just get a timeout. My ISP is Comcast.

I was able to connect to my 5ghz and 2.4ghz networks just fine. Now today I get a message that the connection timed out whenever I try and connect to the 5ghz. I have done a 30/30/30 reset, and still no joy. The one thing I haven't done yet is a 30/30/30 with a configuration from scratch. I will probably try that later. I've done the usual things like change the channel and all that, still no go. Other things I've done, change the network name, change the MTU, restart my machine. However, this is happening on other devices as well. The 2.4ghz network, solid as a rock.

I've looked all over the internet for this and can't find a definate answer. Waited for live chat and got kicked before I got to talk to someone... Just sold my computer and the plan was to buy a newer mac but we've been getting along fine without a computer with just using our iphones. So my question, I see that Cisco has the Connect Express app for the iphone, and I've read about all the features it has like changing settings, router features, etc. But I can't find anything on using the app for the initial set up of the router. I'm currently on an older linksys router (set up before we sold the computer) but it's time for a needed upgrade.

My new EA4500 (fw ver 2.0.36) won't obtain an IP from a Brighthouse TM502G cable modem. The EA4500 replaced a functioning WRT54G which would obtain an IP from the ISP. I've tried upgrading firmware and have used both straight-through and crossover cables between the EA4500 & TM502G to no avail. The EA4500 would issue IPs to it's clients, but not obtain one from it's TM502G. At the moment, all 3 are daisy-chained together with the old WRT54G in the middle in order to make the EA4500 work. Both WiFi and LAN ports function in this configuration.

I downloaded and installed inSSider for Windows and, under the 2.4 Ghz tab, I can clearly see the Router SSID, on Channel 6, exactly as configuredbin the Router. However on the 5 Ghz tab, nothing? I can see Channels 36, 40, 44, 48, 52 and so on BUT no trace of any wireless signal here?I carefully reviewed the wireless settings options and it is indeed enabled.

In my apartment, I can receive the wireless signal of free scholl wireless, which is accessable without user name and password. Although the signal is not good, but we used to use a router EA3000 to relay the signal. Now my roommate is leaving with this this router. So I bought EA4500 and try to do the similar job. However, I find that the configurations on 192.168.1.1 are different between EA3000 and EA4500. Many options cannot be found in the EA4500 page, such as the wireless client.

I'm hoping to get this router to allow WOL (actually wake on WAN) but it seems to be blocking the necessary broadcast magic packet even though the settings appear correct. It's not critical, but the reason is this: I'd like to shut down the home PC, but when necessary be able to start it up and use a VPN to access any info I need remotely.
From within the LAN, I can verity that WOL works. I have NIC and PCI WOL enabled in the BIOS. The NIC (a Marvel Yukon Gigabit) has WOL enabled as well as "allow this device to wake.." using magic packets under power management. The target machine's local IP is reserved through the EA4500 DHCP Reservation table. Just for troubleshooting, I opened port 9 in windows firewall. More importantly, I have ports 7-9 forwarded to my target LAN address. Single port forwarding... it just has been less reliable (?). I'm using a mask of 255.255.255.128 in order to enable broadcasting on .127 at some point as it seems it must be necessary. Broadcasting on .255 is not possible, despite some workarounds I found on the web. EA4500 firmware is the latest, 2.0.37. I have turned off the multicast filter and the anonymous internet filters under the security tab.
So, with these settings, I can WOL from inside the network no problem either targeting the LAN address, or by using a dyndns address. So far so good. With these same settings, I can go to WAN using Depicus or the Cloud Connect Pro app over 4G on an iPad. With all these same settings, WOLsniffer confirms the magic packet still getting through over WAN (obviously using the dyndns address). Even better, I can shutdown the target PC and STILL wake it up within a few minutes from WAN. Let me restate that! Wake up over WAN works, but only for the first few minutes after a shutdown.
However, if I wait 20 minutes or so, WOL stops working. If I change the port forwarding to .127, not only does it not work, but WOLsniffer will fail to see the magic packet. My conclusion is that the ARP table is getting purged, which is undertandable, and so the target LAN address isn't in memory. However, frustratingly the EA4500 will not broadcast no matter what settings you use. This limitation is undocumented, and counterintuitive since the software allows you to disable multicast filtering and does not notify you of an error when forwarding to xxx.xxx.xxx.127 with a 255.255.255.128 mask.

I bought 2 weeks ago a Linksys EA4500 after searching the best Wi-Fi Router all over the net... I choose this cos all over people writed that it was amazing, fast a nd very good coverage all over the house.
Before I had a Buffalo AirStation Dual Band, wich worked perfectly. But since I have several tv and a central NAS whit all films in MKV, I wanted the BEST product for my system, so I choosed Linksys EA4500!
Well, the result is that (when it works it is greate) but sometimes it disconnects and I have to restart it... And second thing that makes me MAD is that the coverage in my house is WORST!! Before my Wi-Fi was present in all the house, now in some parts doesn't work! The position is the exact same of the Buffalo, so it's not a problem of position... I tryed also a router of 40€ and it has a better coverage! How come? how is it possible that a person pays more than 200$ (in Italy it costs 185€) and the result is so BAD??? I'm totaly freak about Linksys now.

I'm in the process of wanting to upgrade my wireless network but I'm not really agreeing to the Cloud Connect, I don't need to have my settings on the internet. I want to manage everything on my own. I've found the following link on the community to be able to put the classic firmware before the cloud connect feature {URL}.
My question now is : If I buy a brand new EA4500, will it still be possible to downgrade to that firmware? No problem with this one? I'm hoping Cisco will continue to publish bug fixing if any to this classic firmware.
