Linksys Wireless Router :: Fluctuating Internet Speeds With E3200?
Feb 26, 2012
My new e3200 setup just fine with Cisco Connect. I have consistently good speeds with a direct ethernet connection, but the wireless speeds fluctuate widely. When I power cycle the router, I'll have perfect speeds for a few minutes and then it'll slow to a crawl (approx 0.5Mbps). Then for no apparent reason, it will speed back up to normal, and then back down to a crawl. I'm using the latest firmware and have allowed Cisco Connect to manage the router so far. This is actually my 2nd router, as Tech Support told me when I experienced this with the first router that it was defective, but I'm seeing the same problem with the 2nd router, so I know something isn't quite right.

My E3200 is set up with no encyrption/ security. The 5GHZ band is set to wireless N, channel width is set to Auto (20 or 40) channel is also set to auto. I have my 2 laptops connected on the 5GHZ band and both have excellent connection with 300mbps. I'm transfering some files between the 2 and an only getting 7MB (so ~56mbps). Both laptops are running windows 7 ultimate.
I've tried transfering music, videos, and some ISO's.

We have approximately 150 1142 LWAPP's deployed in our facility. Recently we started getting complaints about speed issues (90% are using G 10% N). Upon investigating we found that the speeds are fluctuating rapidly. Everything from 54Mbps down to 1Mbps and back up again. I've confirmed that this will happen while standing next to an AP (and confirming connectivity to it), however I cannot find anything wrong or anything that has changed with our configuration. We are a large facility and it is happening all over the campus, so I'm fairly certain it isn't any type of 'normal' interference.

Why my E3200 is (for lack of a better word) "throttling" my internet speeds.I'm signed up for my ISP's 50Mbps data plan. When I hook up my laptop directly to the cable modem (via LAN cable), I see close to 50Mbps as the internet speed (measure via speedtest.net). When I hook up my router to the cable modem, and connect via LAN cable to the router, the internet speed comes down to around a maximum of 26Mbps. NOTE, that I am still talking about a wired connection and not a wireless access. Speed tests with the wireless access do yield the same results as well. To rule out the obvious, I've confirmed that there aren't any other devices on the network and no other bandwidth hogging applications running while I performed these tests.

The problem I have was that last night I unplugged my router and replugged it back in. As soon as that happened, there was no connection between my router and the modem. This morning, I tested to see if it was the modem by connecting an ethernet cable from my desktop to it, and was able to get online. Then, II reset the router and a sucessful connection was made between the two. On my desktop my old network was gone, but the Cisco network was there, leading me to create a new network as if it was a new router. After setting up a new network, I am not able to connect to the internet.

I have purchased a new E3200 to replace my old Linksys router. It locates my computers and sets up a network, but cannot connect to the internet via my Comcast cable modem. I have read on this forum about Mac address issues, but it has located the Mac address. The internet IP address is all zeros, and releasing and renewing the IP does nothing

I have a Telus Wireless modem and got a linksys router to try and expand the range & strength of the wifi. However, whenever I plug in the router and try to set it up, I can get connected to the router but no internet connection.I have tried everything I can - restarted the modem and the router several times, connected and reconnected, rebooted the whole of the router system, connected with an ethernet cable straight to the router from my laptop. In the settings, I have tried to mess around with the settings and more, and whenever I screw up I reset the router to defaults again.

I currently use a Linksys E3200 and mainly direct connect it to my laptop. My current ISP is with Insightbb to which I use their 20.0 (20 Mbps) service. For the past 6 or 7 months I've had little to no issues with my internet connection until about a week ago. While directly connected to the E3200 I used to get up to about 20/21 Mbps at a constant rate. Yet now I'm lucky to get up to 13/14 Mbps. Also, the speed will sometimes fluctuate; shooting to as low as 8 Mbps and shooting as high as15 Mbps. I can verify that my ISP is not the issue. I've directly connected my laptop to the modem with success and received a healthy speed of up to 23 Mbps with no fluctuations. The problem only occurs once I directly connect to the router. Attempting to connect wirelessly shows the same, if not worse, problems.
I've attempted numerous factory resets and used the 30:30:30 method to no avail. I've tried power cycling the modem, router and laptop. I've tried disconnecting the router for up to 10 minutes. I've upgraded the firmware to the most recent update. I've tried setting a static IP. I've tried imputing the MTU manually. I've tried setting a MAC address clone. I've tried turning on/off UPnP. I've tried release/renewing my IP address. I've tried flushing my DNS. All of which I power cycled the router after each and every attempt.

Is it possible to connect the E3200 Router to the internet over the wifi (WLAN) interface?Actually I can only use the ethernet port called "Internet" to connect with my Fritz Box router (which is responsible for my internet connection to my DSL provider). But I don't want to use 10m or more ethernet cable across my flat so it would be nice to use just wifi.

We recently purchased a Linksys E3200 router, because our old router didn't take advantage of our internet speed. The router works fine, though the internet speeds again isn't as much as expected.
With a wired connection, we only get 80 Mbit/s of our full 120 Mbit/s, according to Speedtest.net. The Cisco Connect built-in speed test is even worse; only 40 Mbit/s. When we directly plug the computer into the modem, we get the full 120 Mbit/s, which indicates that the modem does have the connection speed. The router just doesn't give it to the computers attached.
I don't know about my wireless speed, as my wireless card in the laptop clearly is the bottleneck (it can only connect at 65 Mbit/s). Atheros AR9285 ftw.
We tried different cables, the one included with the router gives the same speed.

I have a problem with my E3200 that has happened at least 4 times since I first purchased, installed and configured it. Initially I thought it might be something with Comcast, but a) I never had the problem with my Linksys WRT54G router and b) It seems I can now duplicate the issue by saving a config file and restoring it.The specific issue appears to be somewhat random. At some point the connection to the Internet simply stops for no apparent reason. I am able to ping the router and connect to it. I am also able to drop and renew connections to the cable modem successfully. Furthermore, I can ping my network side of the router, as well as the external address handed to my router by the cable modem, and the cable modem gateway address, but still no connection to the Internet. The only solution to my problem has been to restore the factory defaults to the router and reconfigure it from scratch, which does seem to fix the issue for a time until it occurs again. FYI, I do not use the Cisco connect software because I have several custom port and QOS configs that are necessary for an IP Phone and other hardware on my network.

Ok, so I recently upgraded to a Linksys E3200. I am trying to get the QoS to work properly. I know that it is supposed to prioritize network traffic, so that if I have busy traffic but I am playing an online game, it should keep my gaming from stuttering while slowing other traffic down.
The problem is that every time I enable QoS everything slows down dramatically. I had a 200MB download that was going to take 5hrs with QoS enabled, that took 10min with QoS disabled. And with QoS enabled I can't even watch a youtube video without it pausing to buffer every 10 seconds. And that was the only PC/device using the network at the time. Again turning off the QoS WMM option solved the problem. I have noticed this problem with multiple routers and brands and usually just disable QoS as soon as I set up a router, however I heard that I won't get the full benefit of 300Mbps without QoS enabled.
I don't have any special Voice over IP needs, or video streaming etc. and I rarely am using multiple network devices at the same time. Is there really any reason I should enable QoS? Also I never really play with the settings for QoS, I just figure that since it comes enabled by default it should work for the average consumer.

I used these instructions to put my Fairpoint westell 7500 modem/router into bridge mode: [URL]. Then I hooked my new e3200 to the westell 7500, but no matter what I tried, I could not get any PCs hooked to the e3200 to be able to get to the internet.so able to get to internet too. My questions are:Is there any downside to doing it this way? (ie, not putting westell in bridge mode). Can this cause any slowness or conflicts? Any reasons why bridge mode may not have worked?

I justed purchased a Linksys E3200 router to replace my old router that gave up the ghost. I have it paired with a Motorola 2210-02 DSL modem. The software that came with the router has created two networks but is unable to connect to the internet. I have tried on both my PC and MacBook Pro and niether work. I have the modem connected directly to my Mac and can get to the internet, so I know the modem is working correctly.

I have a Linsys E3200 router for almost a year. It's been working fine until recently. It kept losing internet connection every a couple hours or even shorter. I have to power cycle the router in order to make it to work. However, sometimes that won't work either. I also tried to restore the router to the factory default but that doesn't seem to work.
I have updated the router with the latest firmware (1.04). I am using a cable connection and it never gives me any problem if I just connect my computer to it. I also test my network with another old netgear router that works just fine.

I recently replaced an old Linksys with a Cisco E3200. All our devices get "stuck" periodically and can connect to the E3200 but not the internet. We power cycle the E3200 and all is fine. But only for a period of time, then we need to power cycle again. The range is less than my 4 year old Linksys was also, devices maybe 30 feet lose their connection even more quickly, forcing more frequent power cycling.

E3200 works great until I enable QoS. The device uses QoS and works find until reboot. If QoS is enabled and the device is rebooted, its stops routing from LAN side to Internet side. Administration-->Diagnostics allow me to ping/trace route to Internet sites and local LAN clients but cannot reach Internet from local LAN.
Windows networking icon indicates "No Internet access". I can ping other devices on local LAN.
Disabling QoS restores routing and you can re-enable QoS after that and all is well. Unfortunately, if there is a power failure when I', not there to disable/re-enable QoS afterward, other household members can't use the Internet till I get home.
Wondering if any other QoS users have observed the same problem.

I bought a Cisco-Linksys E3200 8 months ago and it worked well until last month. I usually power down the router after midnight & power up in the morning and evevry time it can connect to internet through DSL modem without problem until this Feb. Most of the time after powering up the router it just can't connect to internet anymore. I am sure the AT&T DSL modem is working. I have to reboot/reset the router & DSL modem several time to get router to connect to internet again. The order of resetting/rebooting DSL modem & E3200 router seems to make no difference. It just appears suddenly the router can connect to internet by chance. I changed router IP and it didn't work either. It's really annoying becuase I have to spend 10~40 minutes to resetting/rebooting DSL modem & router to get internet connection every day.

I have both the WRT54G and a E1000 wireless routers and this problem is occurring for both of them.I use AT&T DSL and the speeds are fine when it is :
1. Not plugged into router
2. Wireless Network Mode is disabled through the router configuration page, having all devices wired.
However when wireless network mode is enabled, speeds drop significantly, 15~17 ms ping goes to 250~800 ping, and download speeds are way lower also. When the router is reset, the regular speeds will return for maybe 30 seconds to 1 minute, then it'll drop back down. I'm positive there's no outsiders connected to my network and this problem still occurs, only when the router is giving out wireless signals. Sometimes the problem randomly goes away for a while but it will always come back. I've tried many things, firmware upgrades, factory restore, none of them seem to work, the only solution so far has been to disabling it, but I need it to be on as there are other devices in other rooms of the house that need WiFi to connect to the internet.

My Belkin F7D4301 Router has the fastest wireless speed of maybe 2MBps but wired with a cat5e cable to my asus laptop of almost 7MBps. I have a one smart TV, one blue ray, one roku, and a nexus 7 using the 2.4 channel.
My Wireless 2.4 settings are channel 11, Extension channel 7, Wireless mode N (have tried with just g and b, g, and n modes), Bandwidth 20/40, Protected mode on, QOS off.
I've talked to Belkin tech support, they are the ones who had me set up my 2.4 channel this way but my wireless speeds stay just under 2MBps, they just want to keep sending me the same model Router because they think each of the new ones they send me is defective.
Am I doing something wrong or is 2MBps the best wireless speed I'm going to get?

Trying to convert a spare router (Linksys E3200) into a wireless access point toextend my wireless coverage. I thought knew how to do this but having a problem.Steps I followed are:1. Disable the E3200 DHCP server2. Change E3200ip address from 192.168.1.1 to something else3. Disable the firewall4.Make wireless settings5. Connect it lan port to lan port with primaryrouter. The problem I am having is that after I finish step 2 the routerreboots with the browser trying to access it at the new ip address. But thebrowser will not connect.I am doing this on a laptop that is disconnected from my network while I am working on the E3200. It is connected byan ethernet cable to an E3200 lan port. I also tried it wireless with the same result. Browser will not connect at any ip address except 192.168.1.1 and then only after I factory reset the beast to regain the 192.168.1.1 ip address

Recently the Comcast internet service in my area was upgraded to 50+ Mbps/10+ Mbps download/upload respectively. If I have my computer wired to the router, I see the advertised speeds of 50/10. If I go wireless, the speeds drop to around 30 Mbps download, but stay at around 10 Mbps upload. The router I have is a Linksys WRT160Nv1.I believe the issue has to do with "WMM Support" in my router's settings. From what I've heard, the router has to have WMM enabled for true wireless N speeds, but when I have WMM enabled, my wireless download speeds drop to around .5 Mbps. However, this is the odd part. My upload speeds stay at 10+ Mbps. This happens for all devices in my house.

I have been using an E3200 and it has been working great. I know have a need for wireless coverage in a distant part of my house and the current router won't get there. I also need wired in that spot of the house as well. I thought to buy a e1200 to use it as a WAP for that part of the house and also to have a few Ethernet ports come off it. Can I connect to my original E3200 wirelessly from the e1200 and then use the e1200 as a WAP and for Ethernet?
