Linksys Wireless Router :: Macbook Air Slow With E1200?
Mar 25, 2012
I just got a Macbook Air and couldn't get connected at home so I went and bought a new router (our other router was old!!). We purchased the E1200. Our Dell desktop seems to have a fine connection, but my MacBook Air and my husbands laptop are really slow when on the internet.

I just purchased an e1200 wireless router. Wireless speeds seem to be very slow. I'm trying to transfer 1 file to my media server, and am only getting 221kb/s. Also, internet connection seems to be slow as well (though if I plug directly into the router or the modem, I get speeds of 25Mbps, however when connecting wirelessly via the router I get speeds closer to 2Mbps (according to speedtest.com).I've played around with the settings as per other posts, and seemed to get the best speeds with the following config (however it is still very poor):
- security mode: WPA2 Personal
- network mode: B/G (have also tried N, which gave worse speeds)
- channels 1,3,6,9, and 11

Both the router and modem are new. Connecting directly to the modem I get Mbps, but the router speed is Kbps. I upgraded the firmware and made various changes per Google searches

why I am having a slow connection? Before purchasing Linksys E1200 wireless router, my internet speed was perfectly normal with Netgear wireless router. Everything ran smoothly but once I installed Linksys, it began to have slow connection. It also has drop connection sometimes. How do I fix my connection speed and the drop connection?

I have an E1200 acting soley as an AP. Everything works just fine, but when I try to copy files from one wired computer(both Windows 7) to another one on the same router(the E1200 in this case), the network utilization is only about 4%. If I take one of the computers off its wired connection and make it wireless, the utilization goes up to about 50%. Also if I take one of the compuyters off this router, and make a wired connection to my main router(which is connected via a wired connection to the E1200), the network utilization goes up to 50%.

I have an E1200 that will work fine for a while, then suddenly the download speed for all wireless devices will drop to between 20-30 KB/sec. It happened last night when we were watching videos on Hulu. We were blazing along fine, when all of a sudden the connection was horrible enough that we had to stop watching. We have no idea what changed - there are only two of us in the house and we were both passively watching Hulu.
This has happened before, and usually changing something like the wireless channel has fixed it, but not this time. The PCs we have that are connected to the router via Ethernet get between 1-3 MB/sec, so I know it's not the modem or the ISP.The signal strength is good (4-5 bars). I have tried repositioning the router and the wireless reciever but that hasn't worked.I have the latest firmware for the router as far as I know (v2.0.02).
I have tried every channel available (including "Auto"). I have tried switching the Channel Width between Auto and 40 MHz. I have tried resetting the router to factory settings and re-uploading my configuraiton. I have tried setting QoS.

I just installed a new e1200 router last night and my ethernet connection is really slow. I've been reading where people's wireless is really slow, but mine is the opposite. I'm getting around .5 mbps download wired, but around 25 mbps download when its connected wirelessly. Is there anything i can do make the ethernet faster or is the router faulty?

I upgraded my old router to a Linksys E1200 about 2 months ago. Like others with Comcast, I now have a lot slower internet speeds. I've updated everything, disabled WMM. I'm still getting slow speeds. My download speed is 3.12, which is not that bad for me. However, my upload is just below 1.

I bought a brand new Linksys E1200 v2 and I encountered a big problem.
Without the router I am able to reach over 90 Mbps doawnloading torrents on wired connection, but through the router I can't obtain more than 55 Mbps.
Is the problem in settings or that's just the maximum speed that the router can handle for wan2lan ? Do I need an upgrade?

I just bought a Cisco e1200 router... and the wireless connection is way too slow, when navigating through the web, but when using speed test, the connection seems fine, but still it even takes more than usual to open simple pages, lets say Google... i usually watch streams and now that i cannot do... when i connect directly i can do everything as usual...as i have read, i change channels, but still no improvement, i have the latest firmware, on my range there are only 2 more available connections... i even tried disabling/enabling the WMM... We all know that having extremely slow internet must be the real "Mayan apocalypse"

I just bought this router and set it up using its CD. It looked like everything was fine until I connected my laptop using wireless. The wireless download speed is absolutely ridiculous. My wired desktop shows 35mbps while my laptop is 0.5mbps. Upload is same for both. Clearly something is limiting my download wireless.
Contacted Cisco support and they told me to change the mtu to 1400, change channel to 11 and reboot. Nothing worked. I have the latest software.

I have been having a problem with my router for the past two weeks and my ISP (RCN) has done nothing to fix it so maybe with our nerd power combined we can find a solution! My router runs fine about 60% of the time, I get 20-24Mbps down and 2Mbps up connect wirelessly. the other 40% of the time the download speed suddenly drops to 1.5-2Mbps down and 1Mbps up. There is nothing in particular that I will be doing at the moment it just suddenly dies.Things I have done that have not worked.I have changed my channel to 1,6,and 11.Updated firmware.Factory Reset (New broadcast name/password).Set up static IPs.I have tried disabling WMM Support and this just kills any connection wirelessly to the router. Is there anything else you can think of to fix the issue, or should I just be demanding a new router the next time they come

I have the E1200 and since I installed this router, the wireless download speed on my iPad and iPhone has been only around 4 to 5 Mbps when my other wireless devices could get to 7 Mbps and ethernet gives close to 10 (my ISP gives 10 Mbps max).I know many people experience slow download and normally disabling the WMM would solve the issue. But this doesn't work for me and I've made sure i'm on the latest firmware.

The wireless router, which is a linksys E1200 is completely new. I setup the entire wireless and there was no problems on that front. The problem is the wireless connection. Even when I am within a few inches of the router, I couldn't even load a youtube video properly. It buffers every 2 seconds. But when I plug the cable into my computer, it works completely fine. The signal strength is excellent all the time.
I tried using inSSIDer to look for the number of connections within my area for the one with the least inteference and found that I'm already on the good one, or actually, all of them looked more or less the same. But I tried changing anyways from 1 to 6 to 11, and none of them made a difference.I then tried changing my Wireless Security to WPA2 Personal. Then I tried changing the Wireless Network Mode to Wireless-G Only instead of Mixed and the wireless speed increased.

I recently purchased an E1200 to replace a broken router. I have had good experiences with this model in the past which is why I bought it. However this has not been so pleasant. For some reason the internet connection over wifi is INCREDIBLY slow. I don't know why. It is fast when connected via ethernet to the router. I changed the MTU on the router to 1400, I set the wireless width to 20MHz and the channel to 11. I set security to WPA2. And yet it is still very very slow. It's not a matter of how many users are on the network; I live in a house with five other people and it's slow regardless of whether everybody's home or nobody is home. It's like this on Macs, PCs, phones and even the Xbox 360. I just did a speed test. Wired was about 14MBps down, wireless was around .7MBps down. I simply cannot comprehend this discrepancy. The old router was very unreliable in terms of connectivity but at least it was always fast. And my laptop is fast at my mom's house where she has an E1200. I use a MacBook Pro from 2009 but like I said, this seems to be affecting everybody in the house regardless of hardware. The modem is a Ubee modem from Comcast. I'd upgrade it to a SURFBoard but my landlord controls all the utilities and I'd rather not have to explain to him how to call Comcast and tell them to register the modem's serial number to the account or whatever.

I recently set up a new E1200 router to replace my old one. We are having problems with very slow download speeds (often <0.10 Mbps) even while the upload speeds are OK (8-10 Mbps). Our previous download speed over wifi was 10-15 Mbps. When I first set it up, the download speed was very poor on the initial computer. After fooling around, it was fine. I don't know what I did that made it speed up. However, my wife's computer has had very poor download speeds. After rebooting my computer, the download speed has also dropped bak to <0.10. I was able to stream Hulu on my Wii just fine an hour ago.

My newly installed E1200 only sends speeds of about 16 mbps wireless, but sends the ful 60 mpbs when wired. What is going on. Firmware is up to date. Changing the channels didn't do anything. Is there a way to figure out if the problem is with my laptops wireless card.

I currently have a Linksys E1200 router and I am getting anywhere from .3-.5 of a megabit per second download speed while upload speed ranges from 2-5 Mbps. This is very strange to me as I have never seen a connection this slow or one that had a higher upload speed than download speed.

Router -> Linksys E1200 v2
I have a question about slow speeds over wireless on my home network. For some reason my read and write speeds are incredible slow (approx 1 MB/S) and sometimes lower when copying files from one PC on my network to another. When I do this wired into the router, file transfers are 10x to 15x faster. This is odd since internet speeds (both up and download) far exceed the wireless read/write speeds on my own network. When I say slow network speeds I mean transferring files from my laptop (wirelss) to another computer (wired) or my Network Attached Storaged (wired).
I have tried the following
- Upgraded to latest firmware
- Disabled WMM
- Literally put my wireless laptop 1 foot away from the router to make sure there wasn't interference slowing things down.
I use my NAS for the storage of all my music and video. Moving of hundreds of pictures or songs at slow data transfer rates can be really painful.

I have the Linksys E2000 and set it up on MacBookPro no problems. My iPhone 3G and my gf's iPhone4 connect no problem. Also, I have an XBox 360 connected via ethernet cable. Her MacBook however is constantly not getting an IP. I set her up with an EZ Key, but every time she connects we have to go through the EZ key process where I run Cisco Connect from my laptop. Why can't she just log in every time? This is frustrating me as all other aspects of this router work fine. I had her plugged into it as well with no problems. Again, it works after a dual computer Cisco Connect cycle, but my computer isn't always home.

Any success with a recent vintage Macbook Pro connecting to the 5.8Ghz channel on a WRT610N. I can connect with the 2.4 channel without a problem but I cannot maintain a connection on the high channel. Linksys support told me that the hardware was not compatible with the high channel.
