When I plug my desktop into my wireless router I have slow internet but when I plug directly into the modem I have no connection at all. It says "cannot connect to primary DNS server". I'm using a Motorola SURBOARD SB6121 and a NETGEAR WPN824V2 Wireless Router. When I do ipconig /all this is what I get:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 192.168.1.xxx network connected to Verizon FIOS via Actiontec MOCA / router. I also have a 192.168.15.xxx network connected to Comcast via Motorola VT2442 router (used for Vonage) and a Motorola SB6121 cable modem.
Each network has it's own gigabit switch connected to each router. The two networks are physically separated but switches and routers are physically side by side.
What is the best configuration to allow devices on 192.168.1.xxx network to communicate with devices on the 192.168.15.xxx network (share printers, NAS, etc), but still have each network served by it's respective ISP, and each device still get it's dhcp, dns, gateway, etc from each respective router?
I can't seem to get DIR-655 to communicate with Motorola SB6121 cable modem. Don't know if it has anything to do with the old firmware 1.21?? Should I update the firmware? If so, which version?
View 14 Replies View RelatedRecently changed modems because of ongoing issues with Mediacom's loaner. I now have a Motorolla SB6121 and use an Airport Extreme router. I've used the Dell in the passed with the apple router, and several different modems and all was fine... but for some reason this hookup is not working for my Dell Studio. It sees the network, but will not connect to it. I did nothing different other than plug everything in. No other computer has an issue with this connection - only the Dell.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Motorola SB6121 DOCSIS 3 modem is connected to a Medialink n-band router. Sometime in the morning (usually between 7am and 9am, the router loses the ability to see the modem. I can access the router's control panel, and I see 0.0.0.0 for WAN IP, Subnet Mask, and Gateway. Primary and Secondary DNS server are both blank. Connection Mode is Dynamic IP.I lose the ability to access the modem's control panel directly (192.168.100.1), even though the PC I use is hardwired to the router. So, I unplug the modem, unplug the router, wait, plug in the modem, plug in the router, and everything works again.I've had more than twelve service calls. Every Charter tech looks at the line, puts in boosters, takes out boosters, replaces splitters, and seems to only look at signal. I've BEGGED Charter to let me speak to an engineer, because my suspicion is that it's something to do with the DHCP server.
I did, by the way, replace EVERYTHING.I have had 5 different modems...same problem. I have had 5 different routers...same problem, including a modem/router combo.I've tried different brands, too.I've disconnected all wifi devices from the router, and rebuilt my PC's operating system. I've even unplugged the refrigerator, because one Charter tech claimed it was "upstream noise."I've been online only a few times when the system actually goes down. What I notice in the router logs is this: [code] So at 9:34, no ranging response - T3 timeout, followed by Unicast Ranging Received Abort Response;
then the Cable Modem Reboot due to T4 timeout, and the system time goes to 1/1/1970 at midnight. No ToD.
The last piece of information: Charter installed a second modem as a "test." That was originally in the same room. A month ago they did another line from the box directly to the test modem to skip the splitter on the house.That modem shows the same problems, EXCEPT -- not perfectly in sync. I might see the same error, but the time will be a few minutes and seconds off. And sometimes I'll see the errors, but the modem won't go down.Sometimes the first modem goes down, sometimes the second. I'm accustomed to a router "healing" itself when the modem goes down.It might be off for a bit, but then will re-establish. This Medialink doesn't do that. It forces a physical restart every day. There are other outages too, and all I get from Charter is "the signal strength is good."
Swapping cable modem SB5101 that has been working for years for newer one SB6121. F5D8235-4 v2000 router has been working with SB5101 for years. When I connect using same cable/etc. Router cannot get DNS/IP from ISP (Comcast). Cable modem works directly connected to my laptop. Switched back to SB5101 and works again flawlessly. FW on router is 2.01.07. Had comcast tech support as well as comcast tech onsite- no resolution. I did activate new modem thru ISP (even with them here doing it).

This isn't the first time I've had the issue also this is about the 5th time its happened and the first few times I was able to simply Configure my laptop to an earlier date and it went away or restarting but not anymore, last month it happened and it took two weeks of not messing with my laptop for it to go away.I have two other computers that are desktops that can connect to the internet still just my laptop wont no interweb love for my laptop T-T.

I will be connected to the internet and then it seems at random i will lose connection. It says Im still connected to the network and I have 5 bars however it says im not connected to the internet. When I trouble shoot the connection it says that I cannot connect to the primary DNS server. This is occurring on all devices wired and wireless that are connected to this network. I have updated the firmware on my wireless router but not on my modem since COX has to do that.

I get the error message Cannot Connect to Primary DNS Server when I try to connect to the internet wirelessly. When plugged directly into the router, it works just fine. But when I try to connect thru a wireless connection, it does not work. First, it gave me that error message, and I went thru all of the potential fixes on other threads, and it still didn't work. Now when I try to connect, it simply says that it cannot connect.

I have a dell inspiron 1420 and sometimes the internet is fine and then it doesnt work at all and says cannont connect to primary dns server. Also i ran a diagnostics on my wlan wireless card and it says gateway ip ping, internet ip ping, and dns ip ping all failed. The wireless says it has 5 bars but I usually have to disconnect and reconnect for it to work and it only works for about 15 seconds before it slows down again

The router always inserts its’ own address as the primary DNS server for the all DHCP clients even though you have set the DHCP server on the router to assign manual external addresses?

Let me elaborate a little so I am clear what I am saying. On the router setup page go to the section that is labeled “DHCP server settings” enter 3 static DNS servers. Say 2 Google and one open dns.

Apply your settings.
Release your ip on your workstation, then renew it. And look at your DNS, the routers address is still the first entry.

I suspect this was probably a design decision so that they could allow a user to open their web browser and type something neat like [URL]. Which for the average user is fine and dandy. If my ISP didn’t suck and try to redirect everything to cached copies I probably wouldn’t have noticed it. But since I end up using the router for DNS and it picks up DNS from my ISP I end up getting Akamai IP addresses, and they have problems with SSL certs…. So you get errors.
I know I can go set the DNS server settings on the workstations. But I really don’t want to do this on all of my devices as they are mobile and switch networks, and on some networks not using the local dns breaks things. Like on the corporate network.
I can't connect my router (WRT54GL) to my new cable modem (Motorola Surfboard SB6120).
Some info:
1) Cable modem works perfectly when connected directly to computer ethernet port
2) ISP is Optimum Online
3) Using Automatic DHCP setting on router
4) Using MAC cloning on router
5) I can access the router's admin screen from the PC
6) I can connect to the router wirelessly, but no internet access
7) I've tried powering down everything multiple times, still no internet access
8) I upgraded the router firmware to 4.30.14
9) The "link" light on the cable modem never lights up when connected to the router
My network is Cable modem -> RVS4000 (does my VPN) -> E3000 (does my wireless)Cisco connect seem to deal with this issue and I want to use the guest feature of the wireless.

The computer recognizes the network wirelessly as the correct name and will only have "local access". When it is hardwired to the router it connects just fine, it also will connect to the unsecured (guest)network. I have comcast internet that is connected to an ooma box that is cconnected to the router. My laptop and the playstation find and connect to the internet just fine. The toshiba is running windows vista with a atheros ar5007eg adapter.

I have a network that is currently set up in the following way:Modem -> vonage Motorola router -> wireless router Most computers are hard wired to the Motorola router. Some other ones connect via the linkseys wireless router. All computers are able to connect to the Internet. The problem I have is that I will be setting up a home computer as a file server connected to the Motorola router. The network acts as though it is two meaning that computers on one router can't see computers on the other router. What steps should I take in order to make all computers accessible through both routers.When I type 192.168.1.1 from a computer on the Motorola router, I get nothing, when I type in my actual ip address, I get the Motorola router. When I type in 192.168.1.1 from a linkseys connected computer, I get access to the linkseys router.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Comcast cable and prior to a couple days ago, it has always been smooth @ 36mbps download and 5mbps upload. I have a Netgear WNDR3700 and Motorola 6121 connected to my PC via Ethernet cable. Up until a couple days ago, I've been getting lag spikes where my games would completely freeze for a good 2-3 seconds and resume, as if the entire connection dropped and reconnected. I did a speedtest and I was getting around 4mbps download and 1-2mbps upload with huge fluctuation in speed.
I called Comcast and they said they were seeing a "red" signal error from their end so they sent out a tech to my house. He came over, changed some cables outside because they were corroded and that's about all he did. I tested my connection while he was still there and I was again getting 36mbps download and 5mbps upload. It was a quick 1-2 test so everything seemed normal until I started to see lag in games again.
I am getting the same lag spikes, albeit it's not as bad as before but it's still pretty annoying. Using speedtests, I am still getting 36mbps download but the graphs show that there are inconsistencies where there would be sudden drops in speed and picks back up still to show 36mbps. These drops are what I assume are the lag spikes. The upload is also suffering now, dropping down to 2-3mbps and it takes the test about 20-30seconds to load the upload portion of the test. Even loading web pages, sometimes it locks up for a few seconds longer than it should, which is normally instantaneous.
I have tried connecting my PC directly to the modem to bypass the router and am still getting the same lag, probably a little LESS but still the lag is there. My router is has always been updated to the latest firmware.

The problem is that surfing the internet has gone all kinds of wrong. Every page takes at least 20 secs to open and the response to online games has the same, or even more, delay. and ipconfig/ release and ipconfig/ renew none of this has made any difference. I can successfully ping the default gateway but cannot ping google. So I don't even know if the problem is with the hub or the laptop.
My wireless connection showed connected but Internet Explorer kept showing the page cannot be displaced. When I clicked the diagnose connection problems, the message kept coming back with "Cannot communicate with primary DNS server (65.32.5.111)".
