Network Xp And Windows 7 Via Ethernet?
May 26, 2012
I have been using Windows 7 for about 3 hours, and I spent the whole time trying to set up a network. I have a HP Pavillion dv6 Notebook PC running Windows 7 SP1 and a old Compaq PC running Windows XP SP3. I am trying to network the two using a direct Ethernet connection. The HP Notebook connects to our family's wireless network. I'm trying to designate the HP Notebook as a gateway for the PC. I also want to activate File Sharing.

So usually I'm using my Windows 7 + USB Modem with ICS enabled to give my xbox 360 internet access and it's working fine. But after upgrading it to Windows 8, my Local Area Connection now becomes Unidentified Network so I can't give my Xbox internet connection again. In diagnose the problem it says that "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP Configuration.

I just reinstalled windows 7 on my Intel i3 M380 laptop, and now I cannot connect to the internet wirelessly and I can't connect with a ethernet cable. In device manager, it says those devices aren't installed. I can't install them because the laptop has no internet. I can't seem to find the drivers for them either on intel. Seems like the reinstallation deleted my network adapter.. I can't find the correct link on intel.. I've tried like 3-4 on my laptop and none of them seem to work..

I have a computer that runs windows 7, and I run an ethernet cable from netgear router into my computer. It used to run fine, but all of a sudden it stopped recognizing the ethernet cable, and I can not access internet.
I know it is not the cable because I can plug in the same ethernet cable to my laptop (runs XP) and it recognizes and I can access internet.
Also, I know it's not the slot on the router because because I switched places with my other ethernet cable that plugs into Netgear Powerline Ethernet Adapter for my Xbox, and the slot recognizes the adapter just fine.
So I am thinking it has to do something with Win 7 or the computer. My computer does have the wireless capability, and I am running it on wireless right now.

My Windows 7 desktop cannot use the ethernet connection for some reason while it works just fine on my Macbook Pro. When I run ipconfig in CMD I'm seeing a 169 IP address which from my googling of the issue I understand is invalid. When I run network diagnostics to try to fix it the result is that "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration, and that this is now FIXED. My network and sharing center screen even claims I have internet access for a few seconds (instead of a red x between the network and internet icons) before dropping out again.I've been trying all kinds of stuff to try to fix this like ipconfig /release and /renew but this doesn't work because it says an address hasn't been associated with the network endpoint and so no operation can be performed "while it has its media disconnected."

I'm using an ethernet cord to connect to my internet and it has been working well until Thursday morning when I turned on my laptop (Windows 8) to see a yellow triangle sign in the bottom right hand corner, in front of the ethernet connected symbol. Since then I haven't been able been able to access the internet from my computer. When I hover over it, it says that it is an "Unidentified network" and there is "No internet access". I've run the Windows 8 troubleshooting and it says that the problem found was ""Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration", but I'm unsure how to fix it.
I'm thinking that the problem is to do with my computer rather than my network, because I've tried another laptop (Windows 7) through the same ethernet cable and connection and the internet works fine on the other laptop. I've tried so many fixes that I've found online, with none of them actually working. Yesterday I even tried a full system reset, where I reinstalled Windows 8, repartitioned and wiped everything off the hard drive, but it still appears have the exact same problem.
Today I also purchased and tried a new ethernet cable which didn't work, so I then purchased a USB to Ethernet adapter, to make sure that it wasn't my ethernet port on my laptop that was faulty. That didn't work either, and the same problem still remains.

Just upgraded to Win8 Pro last night by wi-fi. Cannot access internet router via ethernet cable. Cannot access wireless either.
Using Network & Internet troubleshooting for Internet Connections, I get:
Problem with wireless adapter or access point Not Fixed X "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration Not Fixed X
If I do a ifconfig, I see that LAN has its media disconnected. But not wireless. HP Pavillion dv1190us Notebook PC.

i am experiencing some sort of issue with my Ethernet Controller. About an hour ago i had run a diagnostic report, (using my Norton 360 security program) while i scrolled down the report i came across an orange attention bubble that read "Inoperable Hardware Devices" then a chart lists hardware devices that aren't working, it looked like this:
Data Type Device Problem/ Description
-Device Type -Ethernet Controller
- Device Status -Device Drivers are not installed
(Code 28).
i tried to update the device but it doesn't work, it says that "windows was unable to install Ethernet Controller, ...Windows could not find driver software for your device"

I have had this issue for a while now and i have attempted many things even restoring Windows back to factory settings. My HP Windows laptop connects fine to my BT home hub 3 via wireless with no issues but the ethernet connection just recognises a local network and has no internet connectivity.my ethernet connection just never gets an IP address and always assigns itself a 169.x.x.x address.Originaly thinking it may be a hardware issue i booted into a Linux live cd to double check and the ethernet connection worked with no issues at all.I have tried numeorus things to try and resolve it-updated drivers / alternative drivers reset TCP/IP restored windows back to factory installation assiginged static IP address removed anti virus / firewall software different router

Today when I came home from school, I opened my computer like everyday. Suddenly I noticed that my Internet isn't working. It said I need to connect the Ethernet Cable. Well, my cable sometimes gets loose, so I tried to tighten it up a bit but that didn't work. I tried the cable with another computer and it works fine. I checked device manager and everything should be fine there.computer is running Windows 7 Professional.Drivers are up to date, and nothing changed in the computer since yesterday when it was still working. Could it be just that the Ethernet cable port suddenly broke down? I also tried another cable, and that didn't work either. I restored the system to previous saved point.

I recently bought an alienware mx14 laptop last week and i am having some strange issues with the Ethernet card. The connection seems to drop from time to time at random periods, altough wireless works fine, the wired connection just loses connectivity for brief moment. The only way i notice this if, i am streaming something and it just stops the buffer or if am at the lobby of League of Legends and get timed out or, any http transfer gets cut out.I have an atheros card and w7 64bits installed with the latest drivers from Dell and have uninstalled and reinstalled them a couple of times, and they seem to work for a couple of hours , after a while getting back to the some problem.
