Ethernet Access Not Working After Windows 8 Upgrade?
Feb 8, 2013
I get the message "unidentified network - no internet access" on my computer since my upgrade to Windows 8. I'm using an Actiontec GT704-WG DSL modem/router connected to an ASUS M4A79XTD-EVO motherboard. I can get wireless access to my computer - a desktop - from the modem but not from the cabled DSL. Wireless is slower and less reliable it seems
Perhaps once a week my ethernet port stops working. That is, it is still displayed as 'working properly' in the device management screen, but it is unable to connect to dns. System restore does not solve this problem. plugging the ethernet cable in and out (10 times) does not solve this problem. Modem reset does not solve this problem either. I decided that perhaps ethernet controller is faulty, or perhaps the ethernet port in itself- so I bought a 'usb to ethernet' adaptor and surprisingly the internet connection problem persisted (during the instances when my laptop ethernet port had problems connecting to DNS, the adaptor was also unable to connect to internet).
What does solve this problem is this: I have another notebook - I plug the ethernet cable into that computer. Obviously, internet works without any problems with my second notebook. After that, I plug the ethernet cable back into the laptop which is now unable to connect to DNS. Quite often the Not being able to connect to DNS issue still remains the first time I do this, so I have to connect ethernet cable back into my second notebook and then plug it back into the notebook with a connectivity problem. After I do this 2 or 3 times, my windows 7 laptop is finally able to connect to internet.

I have two Windows 7 computers and neither one will successfully upgrade a 1242 AP to LWAP. However, I go to a coworker's XP machine and run the tool without issues. On Windows 7 I keep receiving the error message of ACL or Firewall is blocking. I have added rules and then even tried disabling the firewalls completely on both computers and still no success.
We currently have 2 6509s with redundant Sup720-3b's and PFC3B daughter cards which are connected together over dark fibre using the Gb fibre connectivity built into the supervisors.
The requirement is to upgrade this connection to 10Gb as inexpensively as possible.
Do I need to purchase new supervisors in order to do this properly or can I use a separate 10Gbe module (we have a spare slot), i.e. can I get away without using the connectivity built into the supervisors?
The other idea I had was putting a couple of 3750-X switches at each end to sit in front of the 6509s and provide the 10Gb connectivity between sites. I could then use the existing Gb uplinks on the supervisors whilst also providing connectivity for some devices that currently connect to the 6509s but could just as well connect here.
I was using desktop computer and got infamous blue screen of death Rebooted and everything was fine except could no longer could see LAN connection or connect to internet The desktop computer also has a wireless card that allows me to connect to router wirelessly but only get "connect with limited access" I have a cable connection through a router and tried connection dsl directly to ethernet and bypassing router but no change Router works for other laptops to connect wirelessly I can see both network adapters in the device manager and both say devices are working properly Here are the results of ipconfig /all:

Basically a while ago last year some time in December my desktop got turned on one day and the internet wasn't working. I tried using my wireless to connect but even that was stuck on "acquiring network address". Ive played around with it abit since then and now my etherent cord shows up as connected but when I go into properties it says no packets getting sent / received. In device manager all my network adapters are cool and dont have any "!" next to them.Ive also tried the cord in my laptop and it works cool.
I have two ethernet cables, a long one and a short one. The short one works fine, but the long one does not work with my computer. It has worked with other laptops, so I am fairly sure the cable itself is fine - is there anything I can do
I have recently upgraded a customer ASA5510 to version 8.3.
After upgrade web access etc is working fine however VPN is down. The config looks very different after the upgrade plus what looks to be duplicate entries.
I suspect its an access list issue but I'm not sure. hostname ciscoasa domain-name default.domain.invalid enable password NvZgxFP5WhDo0hQl encrypted
Ive been using my Sony Vaio laptop (windows 7) to connect to my uni halls internet connection by ethernet cable (and keysurf login) for months with no problems, now all of a sudden my ethernet cable is not being recognised. its not a problem with my connection or cable as other people's laptops work on it. and its not a problem with my hardware as my laptop works in other people's rooms. its just the combination of my laptop and my connection. My friend did something along the lines of resetting the IP address, but not really sure what he did. So i've done a full recovery of my computer.
I am trying to connect a pc with a cable modem using a cat5 UTP cable.I initially checked all the wires of the cable with a meter and then punched the RJ45 connectors to both ends and also checked them with a cable testing device and the straight through mappings were correct, but when i connect the two ends to the cable modem the respective lights do not show up. I have not tried the wire from the pc to the cable modem yet. The cable length is 72 meters.
"Ethernet Connection has stopped working".Its stopped working again and I've run the Network Test and the results are in the file REG.txt attached. I can connect to the internet via wireless OK but I had wireless turned off to run this test.I've proven the ethernet cable OK by connecting another pc to it which works OK.
My custom built desktop is not recognizing an ethernet cord. The lights are not coming on when I plug it in. The device manager does not show network adapters. Im not sure where to find it/ not sure its there.
I was just browsing the net when all of a sudden internet lost connection.I am using Windows 7 64-bit Home Edition.I tried these solutions, but didn't work;
---reboot pc ---turn off the modem, wait 10 minutes and turn it back on ---ipconfig /release, /renew in admin mode ---built-in Windows troubleshooting ---updated drivers ---use different ethernet cables
I contacted a floormate (I'm in college) yet his wired internet works. I have tried wireless. It worked.I have been using the connection for months and this is the first time it has happened.url...
When we had 8.2.2, we bought a Mobile license to make the iPads running AnyConnect happy. I applied it, but since we'd only purchased one license, it broke failover. 8.4 lets you share tracking licenses, and since we were planning on the upgrade to 8.4.x anyway, I figured no big deal, I'll get that straightened out when I do the upgrade.
Did the upgrade this weekend, and I still can't get things happy, the boxes don't see one-another:
Here's a show failover on the primary:
Failover OnFailover unit PrimaryFailover LAN Interface: failover GigabitEthernet0/3 (up)Unit Poll frequency 1 seconds, holdtime 15 seconds Interface Poll frequency 5 seconds, holdtime 25 seconds Interface Policy 1Monitored Interfaces 6 of 160
Just upped our external ASA-5540 pair to 8.4(1), and now one of our nat's is busted.
Here's the lowdown:
Our public IP for our IronPorts ends in .167. That IP is natted to a VIP on our ACE, which load balances to the IronPorts.
The outside interface of the ASA uses .162, which has been the pat for all outbound traffic for a few years... except for the subnet that houses the IronPorts. Due to reverse lookup, that subnet uses the .167 IP address for all outbound traffic.
After the code upgrade, the nat won't work. No email sent or received. Nothing but Deny's on the ASA with flags reading either "SYN" or "RST". IE: Apr 27 12:56:11 10.22.151.41 local5.crit %ASA-2-106001: Inbound TCP connection denied from 69.25.174.17/36917 to 207.236.211.167/25 flags SYN on interface outside
If I return the subnet pat back to the outside interface, then inbound traffic works fine, though reverse lookup fails and anyone running a reasonable spam filter won't send to us.
after an upgrade of NCS 1.1.1.24 to CPI 1.2 on green field, it was not possible to reuse the GUI. During the upgrade, I''ve shortly seen an oracle DB error, but the upgrade was going through, without problems. At the end, it was not possible to use the GUI, and every trial to start the services was stopped with errors.I've found the following severe Bug ID's in the support forum: Bug CSCuc29378 Prime Infrastructure 1.2 won't start after a db restore/Upgrade from NCS1.1.1.24 Oracle DB bug as well: CSCtw59460.I see only a new installation from scratch (1.2) as solution, but the bug is not resolved in V1.2, as seen in the bug tool.
- As the customer has an v.1.0 license who worked with NCS 1.1.1, do I need an upgrade order to be able to activate an installation from the v 1.2 ova (new PAK)??
- I'm searching for a one year CPI partner license, because I heard about in some Cisco Live sessions, but I did not find a way to acces´s to it.
I have an ASA5510 which was running version 8.31. SSH was working fine on version 8.31 but since i upgraded it to version 8.41 the SSH stopped working.
An ASA5510 (with 1 webserver behind it, just starting to build the cluster) was functioning OK with version 8.2: I was able to log in using RDP to the server bhind it from some trusted IP's.
I updated ASDM to the latest version 6.4.7, and then the ASA-software to 8.3.2. After reloading, I could not access the server anymore. I saw that changes were made to the config. Then I updated to version 8.4.3, same results of course, and this is the config. [code]
we recently upgraded our ASA 5510 active/standby cluster from ASA Version 8.3.2 to 8.4.1(11). Unfortunately the standby ASA is now crashing a few seconds after the configuration was synchronized from the active ASA.
Also completely disabling HA, bringing the default config to standby ASA again and activating HA afterwards did not work. Also tried through the Wizard provided by ASDM to be sure to have no errors with requirements.
How to solve this without doing a downgrade back to 8.3.2. ?
I recently installed Arkham City on my computer played it for a while, tried google chrome, gave me a corrupt profile error or something (internet still worked and was connected at the time) restarted my computer and now it's telling me there isn't an ethernet cable connected to my computer.
Here's what I tried so far:
-Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver
-Updating the driver
-Using the network troubleshooting for windows 7
-Doing a system restore before I installed the game (gave me an error saying could not complete restore)
-Currently scanning my computer in safe mode with networking (seeing if that might work, doesn't) with malewarebytes
-Unplugged and replugged the router and modem
-Checked the router on another computer to see if there's a connection (there is none)
-Checked the router to see if there is a light in the port connected to the ethernet, it's blinking at a very slow a steady pace, unlike the ones around it which are solid green lights
-Tried the ethernet cable on another computer, works fine.

Windows 7 64-bit home premium edition Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P NETGEAR router WNDR3700
The other night we had a thunderstorm. It kicked me off the internet. Now, I can connect directly to my computer to my laptop (wired), but when I try and establish the connection between the Cable Modem and the Router...it will show a connection between my PC and my netgear WND3400, but not between the router and the cable modem. Also, the ethernet port on router does not light up when connected to modem.
I was having a cleanup of the desk and unplugged the cable shortly, and after plugging it back in it could no longer find any connection. The only way I seem to be able to get connected to the internet now is to run a cable to my ethernet switch, and then onwards to my computer itself. Even when doing this the net seems to be very slow, won't connect through Chrome etc or just flat out won't connect.
So I have an HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop with window 8 installed and when I try to connect to the internet I keep getting an error that says the "Ethernet" Adapter is not working properly. I used to be able to go on the internet and then my dad had my computer for a while and now it's not working.
My computer is a Dell Inspiron with Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1. A few weeks ago, it stopped working and would not let me log in. I fixed that problem by launching Setup and downloading the Windows 7 installation from a jump drive. The new problem is that I cannot connect to the internet at all. My wireless connections will not show up and when I hook up my ethernet cord, it will not show up either.
I have a Dell Studio running windows 7 sp1. yesterday i was on the internet as normal. Today i was able to connect via my schools wifi, but not my ethernet cable. Device manager shows that my ethernet port should be available.
My sony vaio E series VPCEB34EN ethernet driver does not work. It's a one year old machine. The hard disk crashed and my recovery disc also did not work. So, had to re-install. Now, no working ethernet port.Wireless works fine, but I need ethernet connection for my work?
when i connect an eth cable to my pc everything says its doing its job righht ie driver up to date etc but i cannot get it to show as connected , all i get is that a cable is unplugged warning .
Region : India Model : TL-MR3220 Hardware Version : Not Clear Firmware Version : 3.14.2 Build 120822 Rel.57775n ISP : BSNL EVDO
I have one BSNL EVDO data card which was working fine before firmware upgrade to latest 3.14.2 Build 120822 Rel.57775n. Now it is keep on saying device unplugged after identifying the device. The device is working fine while connected on my laptop.
Yes I had just upgraded my BEFW11S4 and now I can't log back on using 192.168.1.1, I went to the version 1.0 firmware but now I'm thinking that's not what I should've done.
I am trying to upgrade CP Express to 2.5 and after the upgrade I bring up the webpage to login and I am prompted for my credentials, I enter them and I am authenticated. However the CP Express home page never loads. I have tried to reload 2.0 but it does the same thing.
We have a 5510 ASA that was running 8.0 and were using it for clientless VPN access. Through this, we published bookmarks that linked to an internal Microsoft 2008R2 RemoteApps server, which users logged on to and then launched RemoteApps (basically being RDP sessions to apps on the server). All worked fine until we upgraded to 8.4 over the weekend and we now can't launch the RemoteApps. We can still login through the ASA, still click a bookmark to take us to the RemoteApps server's webpage, still then authenticate against the domain fine and still see the published apps. The problem now is when we launch the apps we get "this computer can't connect to the remote computer" messages and the app fails to launch. Nothing has changed on the RemoteApp server side, only the upgrade to 8.4.
