My computer is a Dell Inspiron with Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1. A few weeks ago, it stopped working and would not let me log in. I fixed that problem by launching Setup and downloading the Windows 7 installation from a jump drive. The new problem is that I cannot connect to the internet at all. My wireless connections will not show up and when I hook up my ethernet cord, it will not show up either.

The E4200 broadcasts a wireless network.In my basement, I have a Wii / entertainment center. The E4200 signal from upstairs isn't strong enough to stream video.
I bought the WET610N and have successfully set it up to interact with the E4200 wirelss network. I can hardwire my laptop to the WET610N and verify the internet works greatHowever, the Wii must connect over wireless. I have other equipment in the basement which would benefit from an internet connection. So, I want to A) connect the ESXS88W 10/100 8-port workgroup switch I have to the WET610N *AND* also broadcast a wireless signal in my basement (assuming the wireless network I see in the basement is the same "old" one from upstairs which has not benefited from the WET610N).
How can I set up my WRT54G2 to broadcast a wireless signal in the basement so that it leverages the E4200 signal served by the WET610N, while also having the workgroup switch offer hardwired connections to my other equipment (like Dish Network receiver)? It doesn't seem to work by just plugging the WRT54G2 into the workgroup switch.

I started out installed on the CD and then I kept getting messages about not being set up and finally it kicked me out. So I started out with the basics, changing out ethernet cables and checking connections. I then tried cycling the modem, router, computer and still no go. As soon as I plug the modem straight back into the computer it kicks back on. So then I tried some other trouble shooting ideas on the forums with the last being MAC address clone, save changes, release renew IP, and finally another round of cycling and I still can't get it to work.

The router stopped working for wired connections. I can still go online using my laptop via wifi, but when I connect a network cable to the laptop and turn off wi fi, connection does not work. View 5 Replies View RelatedI come home from work on my lunch break to discover that my dog spilled her food on my router and I'm pretty sure thats how she discovered that cat5 cables are fun to saw on with her teeth, she chewed clean through 4 of them...she also chewed through the power cable and somehow cheated death in that regard.
After repairing and crimping all ethernet cables and substituting a brand new one for good measure, the DIR-615 will not see any ethernet connections, ie the lights on the front do not come on when the cable is plugged in, however I plugged my internet Cat5 into it and the little globe lights up saying that it is getting the internet. The wireless works fine as I connected to it with my phone. I know I repaired the cables properly but to rule that out I have used a brand new un-chewed cable and the router won't see that either. Is it possible that something was fried when the dog chewed through the power cable?
The ethernet ports across the entire campus including the halls all host multiple networks via one port. I connect to the port and I get one connection, and my friend connects to get a second connection through the same port, and a third person connected via the same port to get yet another connection. I think there may be 4 connections being hosted through this in total. Now, the university have 3 main streams of internet: 1 for Staff/postgrad, 1 for students, 1 for exchange students. The fourth connection type is intranet with only access to a portal. The purpose of the portal is to submit your mac address for wireless and ethernet to be assigned an IP address for both. The issue we are having is my friend needs to connect to the exchange students connection for actual internet access, but the ethernet cable will only connect her to the portal (all her details have been submitted). I have cycled through every window in the networking control panel and usually issues like this I can resolve within a couple of hours but how to identify other networks that are available through ethernet.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt's a Dell Inspiron N4050, running Windows 7 Home Basic, Service Pack 1. I haven't been able to connect to the internet via an ethernet cable nor wirelessly. The wireless indicator is on (duh!) and the ethernet cable works with a PC sitting next to the laptop. I have a ARRIS modem (yes, the third world) and it works fine wirelessly with other devices here such as phones and laptops. When I plug in the ethernet cable it tells me that it can't identify the network. I do see all the wireless connections but it's the same, unable to identify network. I've tired all sorts of things, having studied computer science myself I'm not a total beginner, but the OS is in Spanish so it's really hard to make sense of things. If I can't fix this soon I will be forced to reformat the computer. The pros of doing that is that I will get the OS in English and lose all the rubbish Dell pre-installs on their products. The setback is that I won't have the drivers installed for the NIC and other things (although they should be on the optical disc that came with the notebook). Perhaps the problem is the modem, maybe I need a driver for it. Somehow I don't think that is the case because I brough my own hard drive from my country of origin and I put it inside the PC and it connected instantly with the internet via the modem.

When my desktop is online via Ethernet, wi-fi stops working. A signal is detected, but is very unstable and often doesn't connect to the Internet at all, on any device. As soon as the desktop is no longer trying to access the Internet, all other wireless connections work without a problem. Base computer is Windows Vista Home Premium with all latest updates installed.Other connections include 2 laptops (one Win7, one PCLinuxOS), 2 Kindle Fire, Wii, iPod Touch, four cell phones, and Sony Media Player. They're never running all at once. But any number of them can run fine-- as long as the desktop isn't online at the time.

I've tried connecting the modem directly to my Mac and it works just fine (that's how I'm sending this message now). But when the modem is connected to the router, I get no data. It connects to both the 5 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz networks, but it refuses to send data through the pipe. I've tried power cycling both the modem and the router to no avail.

Network troubleshooting via my Windows 7 Dell 8300 said I was not connected and to check the cable. I did that with several different cables and tried the usual router and modem reset. Only through trial and error did I find that I could connect to port 4 which is why I am able to write this post. What could have changed to disable ports 1-3 and can I get them working again? No issues with wireless connectivity.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed two AIR-AP1142N-E-K9 access points, running a fairly simple config, WPA2 PSK, with AES cipher, both the same SSID.The two access points are connected to Cisco 2960G switches, which are in turn connected to each other, again without any fancy config options, no VLAN's ed.
After a random while, varying from 30 minutes to 15 hours, the access points will stop sending/recieving traffic on the ethernet interface.The units don't stop at the same moment, this also varies seemingly random. It's not related to load or the amount of clients (1 to 15).Only turning on one unit doesn't make any difference.
The units keep sending out their SSID, you can associate to them, but the DHCP requests aren't passed on to the DHCP server which is connected to one of the 2960G's.If you wirelessly connect to the AP and set a manual IP adress you can reach the webinterface and telnet/ssh to the access point. The ethernet link is reported as being up on the access point. Also the switch reports a link on the port to which the access point is connected.Resetting the link does have no effect. The log doesn't mention any errors or warnings.Power cycling or reloading the access point will put it back in working order for a varying amount of time.

Daughter is at college with brand new Vostro 3450. Was working on school network during summer but drops the connection multiple times during the day. She runs the Troubleshooting which then allows her to connect and 30 minutes later the connection is dropped again. The laptop works fine when connected to the internet via the ethernet cable. Here is what has been done by the IT support at the school.
1 - Deleted the Intel wireless utility as they thought it was "fighting" with the Windows software for control over the wireless.
2 - Increased the power for the wireless card to "high performance".
3 - Reinstalled Windows 7 to eliminate that there is a software issue.
4 - Replaced the Intel Wireless Card with new part sent by Dell.
Now the IT supports recommendation is to "get a new system" and that perhaps the Vostro's wireless card is "not compatible with their network". For Dell computers they sell the Latitude to the students.
My daugther likes the Vostro. She doesn't want to give it up. Wants the system to work. She had the laptop during the summer session and had problems with connection. The Windows software was reinstalled thinking there was a virus (although no evidence of one) and then she had no connection problems for the whole summer. She came home for 2 weeks and returned back to school and then the system would not work again.
I don't know what to do. Can I buy a USB wireless adapter for her to temporarily use until I can figure out how to fix this problem. Personally, I think there is a design flaw with the vostro.
I bought my Sony Vaio notebook about 2 years ago and have since had problems connecting to certain networks. The laptop will connect to the network but when i open my web broswer it doesn't let me access any web pages. Basically there's no internet connection even though im getting a full strength wifi connection.
This problem only happens in certain locations. My parents house its fine (using a sky router), my old house in London fine (sky router again), my friends house (doesn't work), my new house (doesn't work - BT router), on the train (no again)
Its very frustrating, although it was manageable before as it worked in both my houses. However now it doesn't work in my new house its pretty much pointless me having the internet.
I'm running XP and have Bell-Aliant modem SIEMENS Gigaset SE567 running to DI-624 router. It has been working for years but after the internet was down in the area for most of the day, it has failed to reset. I've done the usual un-plug/wait/replug routine a few times but cannot connect. I can connect directly through the SIEMENS but when I introduce the DI-624 back into the mix, I'm not able to connect to the internet. How do I make it happen. I'm not tech savvy so go slow.

I can connect to the wireless with other machines fine. Something is up with this computer. I just wiped and reinstalled the OS. i have updated everything from windows update including chipnet,.Net, flashed the bios, and did a scan, and updated drivers. i have tried to update drivers from the original CD.problem: I cannot seem to get the computer to realize it has an internal network card. there is no switch on laptop. i have tried manually updating drivers, performing scans, etc. when i go to Dell website, it says to go to network connections, and click on the Wireless Connection to set it up, but that option is not there (only LAN). i am on internet through LAN but cannot see anything wireless to set up.when i am finally able to see wireless options, i want to connect to my existing network, so i do not need to set up a new network.
