I recently had to reinstall Windows XP on my Panasonic Toughbook but when I did, I now don't have any way of getting a wireless internet connection. I don't see the wireless card in the hardware list and there's no wireless connection listed in the network connections. (This laptop came with Vista Business but I wanted XP since I'm more familiar with it.)
View 1 RepliesI recently bought a Medialink Wireless N router and configured it as per the instructions. I have a desktop computer connected to the router now and it works great with a wired internet connection. However when I try to connect to the wireless network with my laptop, the network does not appear in the available list of networks. The broadcsting SSID feature for the router has been enabled. I am not able to figure out if it is a problem with the wireless network or my laptop, because my laptop has been acting weird lately. Is there a way to test that the wireless adapter on my laptop is working fine. I am able to see other wireless networks on the list. How do I know for sure that my wireless network is set up right?

My laptop used to connect to wi-fi but i think somehow the adapter was uninstalled or just plain broke... is there any easy way to find out if i can just reinstall it or if i need a usb adapter now?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Optiplex running XP wired to a Netgear router. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1501 running Windows 7. When I got the new router everything programed easily and I could retrieve files from my desktop and print remotely. Sometimes I would have to "refresh" before the laptop would detect the desktop but now it will not detect the desktop or the printer. I suspect that a Microsoft Update did this but just guessing. I went back and deleted the updates that downloaded around the time that this stopped working. I have tried every thing that I can think of to get it back working but can not get it fixed.

My wireless stopped working. I had problems in the past, not sure how I got to work then. But the other day after handling the modem/router-combo, I guess it became unplugged. I plugged it back in and have not had wireless since. I turned off computer, restarted. My wireless network is not even listed. I can connect vie ethernet. No adapter is listed under Broadcom Wireless.
I am attempting to add my HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless printer to my HP elite book. The printer is showing up in control panel as being my default printer. It is showing up as being offline, even though the drop down menu does not show it as being offline. No printers are listed in the device manager.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently had an issue with my laptop that required a complete reinstall of windows. As if this wasn't bad enough, I lost the password that I had for my router. Thinking it was no big deal I just went ahead and reset the router back to factory settings assuming I would be able to set up a network and encrypt it as I had before. Just testing the functionality, I was able to access my router while it was not encrypted and with the DSL modem plugged in, I also had internet access. I did this both wireless and with Ethernet cable.
Happy to see this, I decided it would be a good idea to re-encrypt my router to prevent any outside access. So as I had done before I went to the setting page where I set up a network with a web key. The only thing I entered at all was the paraphrase for the key then saved the setting to test it out. I refreshed the available wireless networks and mine was there and was now listed as secure. I then proceeded to click on the network, entered the key, and then waited for it to connect. The problem is, it never would connect. It continuously tries to connect, and says it is trying to "acquire the network address" but never does. Since then I have been on the hunt trying many different suggestions I have seen online, but none of the situations were quite like this one.
I recently have been reading into QOS and have been fiddling with it on my Linksys WRT54G router. But there are a few things that seem limiting (at least on this version) so I have some questions.I live in a house with three other roommates all sharing the same internet connection. We don't have a bandwidth limit, so I don't care how much they're downloading. When I want to watch Netflix when they're all on the internet however, either my movies will come up in low quality, or will be interrupted.Under the Device Priority I put in my MAC address and set my priority to high. My first question is, what is the priority of a device that is not listed at all? There's only room for two devices so I can't put all three of my roommates in. I would assume their priority would automatically be the lowest.
I wanted to set certain common ports to be at a high priority. So far I just have port 53 for DNS entered with the highest priority, while my computer is set to high. Would this mean any computer making a DNS request would have a higher priority than my computer making a non-DNS query? I would like DNS to be a higher priority than myself streaming video.Finally, are there are ports that streaming video commonly use? I know there are ports for Netflix but I was also thinking of other Flash/HTML5 videos I might come across. Or do they tend to just use port 80?
As I write this my iPad is connected to my Linksys router. However, my iPad is nor listed as a device in the list of all connected devices. All my other devices are listed just fine. Why I can't find my iPad?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that my E4200v2 Smart-Wifi cloud doesn't show all the devices that are connected to my router.To test, last night we turned on EVERYTHING....4 iPod Touches, 2 Xbox's, 1 Blu-ray player connected to Netflix, 1 Directly receiver, 4 laptops,1 desktop,1 iPhone, and made sure all of them were connected to the Wi-fi and actually streaming / downloading/playing something the Smart WiFi only recognized about half of them as being connected. I rebooted the router and it picked up a few more but never accounted for all the devices connected.
If you can't account for all the devices connected to your network, setting-up up reliable Parental Controls is almost impossible.Very disappointed and about ready to start looking for another brand of router. Sad, as I've been with Cisco/Linksys for over a decade and been very satisfied in the past.
Iam using dell inspiron n4010.....wireless card not listed in my device manager....cant find the driver at dell web sites.....Driver listed is not compatible with ma laptop...

It stops connecting to Internet randomly i.e. any URL typed in from the browser times out.I connect various devices such as desktop, laptop, ipad2 over wired and wireless connections and the behavior is the same from all devices when this problem occurs. If I make a direct connection to the DLS modem, it works fine for the whole day, without these issues.I also observed IP address conflict messages and my desktop does not connect to Internet if I am running VPN on my laptop, at the same time, occasionally.When this occurs, I am able to login to the router and can see the WAN status and the DHCP address being allocated to the router. I can even do DHCP release and renew, but that does not fix the problem.

Somehow the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi combined two separte i devices (iPhone 5 and a 4th generation iTouch) to one user.The devices actually have different names, but the Smart Wi-Fi is combining them into one device. So I can't use Parental Controls on one of the devices.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a NAS connected to my network and all the computers/laptops can use it if connected via the ethernet (all use various operating systems, no static ip's). as soon as I try and use them on the wireless none of them will see the nas, they are all connected to the network and can use the internet, just no connection to the nas.My Router Ip is 192.168.1.1 and my nas IP is 192.168.1.254, I have tried setting the nas to automatically getting an ip from the router aswell but this still doesn't make any difference.

I can connect to the wireless with other machines fine. Something is up with this computer. I use Virtual Boxes on here and see that there is a "Virtual Box Host Only Network" that I've never noticed.I've disabled this but my wireless is still not finding anything.

I just wiped and reinstalled the OS. i have updated everything from windows update including chipnet,.Net, flashed the bios, and did a scan, and updated drivers. i have tried to update drivers from the original CD.problem: I cannot seem to get the computer to realize it has an internal network card. there is no switch on laptop. i have tried manually updating drivers, performing scans, etc. when i go to Dell website, it says to go to network connections, and click on the Wireless Connection to set it up, but that option is not there (only LAN). i am on internet through LAN but cannot see anything wireless to set up.when i am finally able to see wireless options, i want to connect to my existing network, so i do not need to set up a new network.

I fixed that problem by launching Setup and downloading the Windows 7 installation from a jump drive. The new problem is that I cannot connect to the internet at all. Of course its hooked up the the modem, but i also have it hooked up directly to my desktop considering the router is on the desk where my computer is.I recently moved to a new house.One of the rooms has a huge brick wall in it, unfortunately the computer is in that room.AND, its on the far left side of the house, so the other side of the wall barely gets any signal (Enough to work, but it bounces and only gets about 2 Megabytes Per Second, which is awful, because the router sends out 20 megabytes per second due to our internet plan.) Now, my room is all the way on the far right side of the house, in my room, i get barely any connection at all, 20% is normal in my room. I have my Playstation 3 in my room, so I had to wire an ethernet cable from the wireless router, up through the attic, to my PS3. I can now get 20 MBPS while playing video games. While that is great, i still don't have a wireless connection back there.
What i want to know is, can i plug in another wireless router to the ethernet cable in my room, sending out another signal. So basically, im plugging up a wireless router to another wireless router, and want them to both send out internet.I plan on getting a gaming laptop in December and will be playing it most of the time in my room. I need to know if this is possible, and if it is, how do i do it?First off, let me state that moving the computer or router in front of the brick wall is completely out of question.Also, know a lot of stuff about computers, but know almost nothing about networking.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn the near future my company is looking into the option of adding a second network connection (exclusively for customers visiting our facility) to our pre existing WLAN network. We are currently using a Cisco 2100 series Wireless LAN Controller and probably 6-8 APs. Our main connection is made up of 4 T1 lines and the second connection will more than likely be a cheap DSL connection. I'm wondering if this technology supports two separate connections on one controller and APs. For example, is there a way within the controller web interface to separate what is currently our "Guest" connection from the main Internet line? I was thinking of just plugging from the DSL router directly to the controller and save the hassle of changing routing and VLANs.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI purchased a e4200 in hopes that its dual band capability would allow us to run a 2.4ghz network for certain devices and a 5ghz for everyone else. I am able to setup the router and connect but it seems when the 2.4ghz network drops the router drops all connections.
At first I had the networks setup with the same ssid, then changed the 5ghz network to a new ssid but was still losing connection when the 2.4ghz network dropped. This may be a simple routing issue i am overlooking (bit of a network newbie).
I am trying to extend my home network into my basement with both wired and wireless connections. I have a WRT120N upstairs, which is connected to my cable modem. I have an E1200 in the basement, which I have connected with a LAN port. DHCP is turned off, and all wired connections are getting an address from the upstairs router, and connecting to the internet successfully.I've configured the wireless with the same SSID on both routers, but the clients that connect to the downstairs wireless are not able to access the internet. They are getting an IP address from the upstairs router, but can't get past the gateway.

I'm having to reboot what is now my 2nd router every 1-2 days in order for all connections to resume working. My 2nd router was working great since Saturday afternoon, and just now I needed to reboot in order for my laptop to connect to the network.Now that it seems pretty clear the router in general isn't faulty, I suspected that the issue was IP lease related, so I was looking at DHCP settings and changed the lease time to 2880 (max setting), from 120 (default). However, this should only prolong how often i'll need to reboot the router. So, what is it that's causing my devices to disconnect or not being able to connect to the router for a prolonged period of time?
1. I recently purchased an Asus X53-sx1159v laptop (Windows 7 64 bit os - other detals at bottom ).
2. While it has a wifi network connection (which works fine), it doesn't seem to have any listing for ethernet (ie wired) connection. (even though it has the port for wired access.)
3. When i look under computer/device manager/networks, all i get is the wifi atheros 9485 network adaptor. There is no other listing. (see attched file for screen grabs)
4. Am i missing something obvious with all this? The Asus website has examples of this model with screen grab which includes an ethernet adaptor as well (see attached file)
Note that laptop is labelled as an X53 series but in the computer it get listed as a K53e

This may sound ignorant but I cannot get either of the antennas off my 615. They are listed as removable reverse SMA but they are so tight I am afraid of damaging it. This is my second 615 after not being able to get one of the antennas off the first. D-link said they should just unscrew but I cannot get either of them to budge. D-link support said the one I had first must have been manufactured wrong so I returned it to new egg and got a new one. Same issue. I need to have an external antenna on the unit.

It has IOS 12.0 and doesn't support even some basic commands, like int ranges or even the do command in global config mode. And it doesn't seem to support VLANs either.I have looked through Cisco's site and couldn't find what I was looking for. I dont know if my switch supports the newest IOS, or which version IOS that it does support. The switch isn't listed in the IOS software advisor.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi am having a problem with my desktop right now, just recently i re-installed Windows7, a clean format... but then i suddenly noticed that i cant connect to the internet, no network adapters are detected on the Network Connections, its empty i looked at the Device Manager and saw a yellow warning on realtek rtl8139/810x family fast ethernet nic, i download the driver using my laptop (wireless connection)... and installed that driver on my desktop pc then checked the device manager once again, but it still has a yellow warning.i dont know what to do anymore, and at the last screenshot theres this error message: This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12) If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.i have two lan cards, one at the motherboard(not in use) and the other PCI-E lan card (tp-link ) ...im just wondering if that Realtek i just installed is the lan driver for the motherboard?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just replaced a hard drive on my computer, installed win7, hooked up the linksys according to the guide but it is not recognizing anything attached. My devices indicates an unknown ethernet controller. I have installed no drivers for anything, no drivers were listed as needed for wcg200.
The same linksys is hooked up to a second computer (which I am posting from) so I am assuming it works fine. Also I had the thing set up on the last harddrive with win7, the only difference was the harddrive was loaded up with the OS by the computer shop. I have never done this before and wanted to try it out. I swapped ethernet cables to make sure nothing changed with the cables, but no luck.
