View 2 Replies View RelatedI pay for a 50mb service and reguarly check the download speed I was getting. I would always get between 45-50mb. However I went on holiday for a few days, and so I turned all the plugs off at the wall(something I never do) and since I got home im getting speed of around 20-25mb. I called the engineer out but he wasnt able to do anything because when he connected it to his laptop, he was getting speeds of 47mb. He said he didnt know why i was getting such a slow speed through my desktop, just said it must have something to do with my computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I have anything else connected to the network (anything being my Xbox 360, or my smartphone) and I turn on/wake up my computer, the entire network crashes and I have to power cycle the router and modem in order to get it to work again. What would even cause this? I often forget to turn off the wifi on my smartphone before I turn on the computer, which results in a lot of very tedious power cycling. It's also frustrating if I'm playing some vidya on the 360 and my wife gets on the computer, resulting in me getting kicked off and her unable to even do what she wanted to do in the first place.
The stranger part is that if I have my computer already on, and I turn on the 360/smartphone, it works fine. So there's something going wrong in the process of my computer connecting to the network, I guess. I have set a static IP, and I also made sure to turn off the energy saving feature of my wifi card, but neither of those things solved the problem.
My NIC card started flashing last night. The computer was turn off, and the network cable to the cable modem was unplugged. Also, I installed some free software that day and wonder if there is a connection.
View 5 Replies View RelatedUpon turning on the computer, the wireless will not connect. It seems to not recognize the configuration of the wireless. I have to go in and put in the key every time... and then there are times that it says "limited or no connectivity". We just had a new router/modem installed in our network just yesterday. This router/modem is in conjunction with cable tv difficulties we were having.

Whenever i turn off my computer, internet access stops for the entire network, anyone who is conencted, however, local access is still possible.I am also having a problem with the wireless in my laptop also. Whereas every computer on my network is able to access the router wirelessly, my computer (the one that seems to chut down internet access) won't do that, i send packets, but none are received.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Comcast cable going through a Netgear wireless router (WNR1000V2) with 2 PC's connected to it. (both desktops are wired directly to the router)When ever my computer is on and I game, I get a steady low latency ping, usually <50ms.But when my roommate turns on his PC, every 5-6 seconds or so I get a surge upto ~250ms.I disconnected the ethernet cable from his PC while I was gaming and the surging stopped and I had a very smooth connection. But as soon as I plugged it back up I started getting horrible ping. This leads me to believe that some program on his PC is interrupting the internet latency.
I am completely lost on how to track down what is sapping my internet. His PC is not running any bit torrent clients or P2P programs at all.We both are on a 2 month old copy of win7 x64.Are there any programs that I can use that would tell me what is using the internet to the point of lagging the whole network?
there has been issues with this router, and I wonder if any of you have issues connecting to the 5ghz when you wake your pc from sleep longer than an hour. For some reason when I put my computer to sleep at night and wake it up in the morning, my computer will not connect to 5ghz. It will work fine with 2.4, both are set in auto, so I dont see any issues. I did try to put 5ghz to a manual setting; wpa2, 40 mhz, and channel 161. I still get the same results. I am doing something wrong or is the router's 5ghz faulty? Also when is the new firmware coming, I am getting sick of my Harddrive being awake 24/7, its killing the harddrives life span and wasting electricity. I should put this in another post, because they should really change the media server to Wild Media Server or Serviio it would be alot better.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an Asus Rt-n56u router to replace a netgear that bit the dust. I have three xbox 360's connected wirelessly to the network, that me and my roommates typically use simultaneously. When any one of us turns off our xbox, we completely lose the internet. Sometimes it comes back in a few minutes, and other times we have to reset the modem and the router to get it back. I emailed ASUS and got suggestion to try port forwarding, without real clear instructions on what to do.

Yesterday I got a new TP-Link TL-WR1403ND Wireless N router. And after trying for ages to try to connect my Galaxy Nexus and iPad (both Wireless N devices), I finally called the TP-Link Support. Both devices could see the wireless, but would never let me join.Anyway, support told me to try connect a laptop if I had one, which I did (a very old one) and it also could not connect. The first thing the tech got me to do was set the mode from mixed-b/g/n to mixed-b/g. This got it to work, and the tech basically said there you go, works. But the main reason I got this router was to use wireless n.Anyway, I told her that was not acceptable, she then told me to set it back and change the security to WPA-PSK (it was WPA2-PSK). I did this and she also told me to disable WMM.Anyway that worked, so I was happy. I then went and change the security back to WPA2, and it still worked. So the main issue stopping me from connecting to the WiFi from my devices was WMM.So after all that... I looked up WMM, and can see it basically a QoS feature. So why does it not work with my phone, ipad and laptop? I have searched the net, and from what I can see, it is a very Important thing to have WMM turned on. So why won't it work with my devices? All three of them can see the wireless network, I can put the password in, but then they don't connect.I am on the latest firmware (can't check the actual name and version as I am not at home), so is there something wrong with this particular router? Is it a known problem? Do I have a faulty unit?
When my RV016 is restarted (for instance after a power failure) the gateway to gateway VPNs do not connect. I have to go the router's VPN summary page and click on connect to get them started. Is there any way for that to happen automatically?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am setting up two identical workstations at the company I work for. They are both brand new HP computers running Windows 7 64 bit. I set up one computer fine and added it to our domain. I tried connected the second computer and I can add it to the domain but for some reason it says "No Internet Access". I can ping our server and anything else on the network, but any website I try won't come up.
Most of the related issues I've searched for were all viruses but since this is brand new and has never been online that is not the case...unless an HP tech decided to play a cruel joke of course!
Could it be the network card? I didn't think so since it connects locally but who knows. I also disabled and enabled, took our sonicwall down and tried to obtain settings automatically, nothing works!
the internet connection to my computer was fine. Nothing wrong with it at all. I turned my computer off and went to bed. When I woke up the next day morning and turned my computer on, there was no internet connection. I turned my computer back off and went to school.I tried unplugging and plugging the Ethernet cable back in, but it will no longer connect with the Ethernet cable. I have managed to get it to work wire lessly.
View 17 Replies View RelatedMy computer will not connect to the internet, it was working fine then all of the sudden disconnected, I have tried all the basic things like restarting the modem and using a different Ethernet, but none of those worked, so I am convinced that the problem is with the computer itself. I have it set up so that my netbook(which I am using right now) is wirelessly connected to the internet, and I have a ethernet cable going from the netbook to my desktop, giving the desktop internet(until it had this connection problem). I am using windows xp professional, and I have spent a lot of time browsing to try and fix the problem, but so far it is to no avail. First I'll start by saying when i try to repair the connection it comes up with the message " the following steps of the repair operation failed: renewing the IP address" I tried using ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew, but when I do this it says "an error occured while renewing interface local area connection: unable to contact you DHCP server. request has timed out" when I type in "ipcofig" it says my IP address is 169.254.xxx.xx, after researching more i found out that this is bad, but when i try to renew to get rid of it it gives me the "unable to contact DHCP" message. I even tried reformatting with a different windows disc but the connection problem still persists.

My main concern is why all of a sudden the computer doesn't connect automatically to the internet?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAnd I have tried everything I can to fix it in the last 3 days. It has always worked on my home network as a home network, and one day it seems to decide it's a public network. My computer has some limitations even with it being with administrator rights because it works from a school domain. And it happens to be that one of the few things that are limited is the ability to change a network status from public to home/work. Other Windows 7 computers like the one I'm using now can change its options, so why not mine? I have tried everything I can to fix the problem.
I started from the basics, resetting router, wireless, and all. Also, I tried a local area connection directly, of course this made no difference. I then went through every possible thing I could in the troubleshooter, still nothing.I then went straight for manually making my own static IP by finding the IP and DNS through the cmd and all, it made no difference. I even went to changing the option of "unidentified networks" to be recognized as private, but that didn't work either.I did this combofix utility process, but nothing came out of that either.
I have a HP pavilion p6736f-b. It has wireless capability. It has wireless lan 802.11b/g/n. I know personal it can connect to the internet because I have done it before. Now when i try to connect to the internet it shows that no networks are available. This problems goes away when I use my wireless adapter and it can find my network name fine and I can connect to the internet. I want to be able to use my computer wireless without any usbs since it goes faster and I also use plenty of usb so I dont have the ability to always use a usb for my wireless adapter. I think the problem might be connected to me connecting my xbox 360 manually setting the ip address default gateway etc.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect to the internet through a Netgear wireless N-300 WNR3100 USB adaptor, but whenever I try to connect to the network, it says "The connection was unsuccessful. This computer currently has limited connectivity to MyNetwork." I have absolutely confirmed that it is not an issue with the device itself, because I went through an all-steps process with a Netgear representative trying to fix the issue, and once we tried to install and use it on my laptop it worked without a hiccup. But wait, there's more. My computer ALSO refuses to connect through a Netgear Wireless N WN111v2 adaptor, so it's very clearly not an issue with the adaptor. And I've saved the best for last: The computer won't even connect to the internet when plugged in directly to the LAN through an ethernet cable.
I've confirmed that the port and cable both work by trying to connect my laptop to them, and it works just fine. So the only option left is there's an issue with the ports on my desktop. They apparently only have problems connecting to the internet however; plugging in any other USB device has them work just fine, and even when the adaptors are plugged in, they have at least some connectivity capabilities, since the network shows up and allows me to attempt to connect to it.
I have a Belkin F5D8636-4 v2 N Wireless Modem Router. For some reason, it will only connect to the internet if the wired computer is plugged in and on. I tried starting the router without it plugged in and it kept trying and failing to connect to the internet. As soon as I plugged in the wired computer it connected to the internet. jhb019 has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
