Sharing Internet Connection To Wireless Router?
Jul 1, 2012
We have highspeed internet that comes in at our house, but we want internet in our shop. We have a wireless dongle outside of the building and it picks up the signal for the main computer from the main wireless router. Because it is a metal building we cannot get a wireless signal inside the building otherwise. I want to hook a wireless router up to the computer in the shop, share the internet connection, and broadcast the signal throughout the shop so I can use wireless in the shop.

I have 3 computers running Windows-7. One computer is directly attached with wired connection to broadband internet modem and other 2 computers are attached through a Wireless router attached to modem. The problem is this that both wireless computers are running internet well while the directly connected computer shows internet connection but no data flow happens. When the Wireless router is turned off the directly connected computer starts working internet.

So I'm trying to set up my computer to act as a virtual router so I can connect another device to the network.I can successfully create the network but it doesn't seem to be sharing my internet. I believe the problem may be that on the sharing tab for the initial internet connection there is no drop down menu like the one below.

My ISP provides static ip based internet connection. I have setup my D-link DWR-113 router to access internet through it. I have also turned on DHCP in the router. But when I try to access internet using both of my computers simultaneously it doesn't work - none of the computers is able to load a webpage. And when I leave one computer I am able to surf without any problem.

I live in an area that has no cable or dsl internet available. The only options are basic dial up or wireless internet through one of the cell phone companies.Right now I use verizon with a usb adapter.I have had this since moving here.It gets good speed and I share it witht the other 4 pcs in my house through a 5 port switch using windows xp's ics(internet connection sharing)We mainly use the internet for playing games together online.Recently though i have wanted to upgrade to a wireless network.I feel as if I 'm living in the stone age because everyone else I know is using wireless.Last night I went out and purchased a netgear n750 duel band router(model number wndr4000-100nas) after reading several guides online about how to set it up.It sounded easy enough but after 3 hours I still could not get it working.
Here is what I am trying to do.I want to basically turn the router into a switch by disabling it's routing function and let the pc that has the verizon wireless card be the host and hand out ip addresses to the other pcs.(like it is doing now)Problems I am having
1- keep getting the work offline popup when I click on anything in the router control panal(it say you are not connected to the internet would you like to connect or continue to work offline I hit work offline and it just pops up again when I click something else)
2- I think I found how to change the router's ip address and disable DHCP under lan controls but when I hit save it pops up saying I need to manually change my pc's ip address and it will not save.
I am using winxp32 sp3 and right now 5 gigabit wire lan cards.(though if I get this working I'm going to pick up wireless card for 4 of the pcs.)

I recently moved my internet provider to Sprint 4g and I am using their USB modem (U600) I have successfully set up Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) between two Windows 7 pc's using an ethernet cable. Would ICS work with a wireless PCI adapter? effectively making my desktop that the modem is plugged into a wireless router.

Im planning on implementing a forefront tmg on my server, normally id connect the modem straight into the switch but to make sure all the traffic goes through the software firewall ive connected it through the servers integrated nic.So now ive got lan access to the modem and its webgui but no Internet access the ip of the nic is (192.168.0.11,255.255.255.0,192.168.0.10) and the modem is set to 192.168.0.10But again no Internet access is detected and i cant ping the isp's dns servers.Just so you know where im going with this i plan to use a static route and nat (built into forefront tmg) to forward all wan traffic through the integrated nic. Ive already tried to use PPPOE with the above setup and im able to share the internet over the entire network using routing and remote access in server 2008 but installing forefront on top of this configuration isnt supported as forefront takes over routing and remote access with no demand dial support.

I newly installed win 7 in 2 pc's. I had used the internet connection sharing when I had Win xp installed in them before. So I gave the static IP address,192.168.0.1 to the pc with the internet connection, and had the other pc obtained the IP address automatically. File sharing works fine, but somehow the 2nd PC could not be connected to the internet. When I checked its connection details, the Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address was 169.254.224.63. I think this IP address should be something like 192.168.0.xxx, but it's configured to auto, so I can't really do anything right now

i have a "not so fast" DSL connection at home and i need it for work. unfortunately for me, i have 3 siblings, each having their own laptops who abused the bandwidth by downloading stuffs and streaming videos. i have the idea to share them connection by reconfiguring the current network topology (internet--modem--wifi router--my desktop--3 laptops.) to (internet--modem--NIC 1 of my desktop--NIC 2--wifi router--3 laptops.) using windows ICS and bought ANTAMEDIA BANDWIDTH MANAGER in order to prioritize the connection to my Desktop.

I have been wanting to share the wifi on my laptop with my desktop. However whenever I enable ICS on my wireless connection and then plug in the ethernet cable to my laptop and my desktop, the wireless automatically turns itself off and only the LAN connection between my laptop and desktop is active. I have done a lot of googling and read a lot of forums, but unable to find a way wherein I can let my wifi remain enabled even after plugging in the LAN cable.

I have a laptop (Win XP SP3) which connects to the Internet via wireless connection. Configuration is as follows:
Laptop connects to AP1 (wireless) AP1 connects to AP2 (ethernet cable) AP2 connects to AP3 (wireless)(AP3 is somewhere in the neighbourhood, i dont know where) Some of the APs or all of them may work as bridges, i dont know since i do not have access to their interfaces. I have a desktop, which is connected to my laptop with a crossover ethernet cable.
Wireless connection details:
IP: 192.168.1.72
Mask: 255.255.0.0
Gateway: 192.168.3.2
DNS: 192.168.3.2
LAN details:
Laptop's IP: 10.10.10.1
Desktop's IP: 10.10.10.2
Mask: 255.255.255.0
I want to share the Laptop's internet connection with my desktop. Tried ICS, bridging, etc. but nothing seems to be working.

I'm trying to connect my Xbox 360 to a VPN with internet sharing, but whenever I click "allow internet sharing" on the VPN I get errors like error 800 or error 714 that say things like "couldn't esablish vpn connection" or something like "security settings not compatible." I've also tried remaking the VPN and turning off the firewalls but nothing works. Also, I've heard that I can use a bridge connection instead, but don't I need a wireless connection for that? If so, how can I do this?I'm using a PC with Windows XP and a DSL/Broadband wired connection for my PC and Xbox. My local area connection is: Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller.

I, like OP, use my PC to sign into Xbox LiveI've never had problems with it before, not ones that I couldn't solve, and have set it up a number of times after reformats or new installations of Windows, so I usually am able to figure out the problem on my own without necroing old threads. But this time my luck seems to have run out. All of a sudden a few days ago, my Xbox refused to sign into Xbox Live. There seems to be a problem with my Xbox recognizing my PC's internet connection, because when I do tests they never get beyond the 'Xbox 360 to Network' stage. I did the usual steps that are given in the troubleshooting section but to no avail.
I looked at my network connections in the control panel, and it seemed my Xbox connection was set up for ICS, rather than my computer. It dawned on me when I figured out that the reason the 'Sharing' tab wasn't showing up for my PC's connection (in the Properties tab) was perhaps because the other connection had it enabled. Sure enough when I disabled it for the Xbox, the Sharing tab showed up in the Properties for my PC's connection. Only, when I go to click it to enable it and press OK, it gives me a message: "An error occured while ICS was being enabled. The dependency service or group failed to start." I thought perhaps it meant my Xbox connection but that doesn't seem to be the case, as the message appears whether its turned on or off.
At this time I'm also awaiting a new video card, as my current one died on me yesterday, which was a day or two after this Xbox connection problem arose...great timing, right? I'm currently operating in safe mode with networking, and I know that certain windows operations don't work in safe mode. Perhaps this error message I'm receiving is due to me being in safe mode? I have no other options until the new card arrives, as starting Windows up normally went from being a really fubar screen to being a completely black screen upon start up. So I guess my question is...am I unable to enable ICS while in safe mode? And if so, why was I able to disable it while in safe mode for my Xbox's connection? That's really annoying.
Some of the things I've seen while looking foXbox ethernet can go bad, i.e. through static shock frying it. I've had some problems with my surge protector that are quite strange. Sometimes it will start to beep continuously really loudly until I disconnect it. And then I have to unplug everything from it, plug the protector back in, and reconnect everything, in that order otherwise it beeps at me in disgust. But there's no pattern to this. It once did it twice within a week, then the next time it did it there was about 3 weeks in between. Perhaps this is partially to blame for the video card crapping out...perhaps it did something to xbox? But one would think it would cause something like a RROD, rather than something so specific as the ethernet port.

Internet Connection Sharing. On one of my pc's with Win 7 I try to use ICS and it does not work. I have tried forcing the ip address on the LAN connection on the host computer (192.168.0.1 or something) and it will not assign an IP address to any device hooked up to it.On my macbook running Win 7 and all the settings the same, all of the same devices work fine. I tried using a cross-over cable and switch (not at the same time) with no luck. Not using any firewall and I've tried for days.

I'm working on getting into Internet Connection Sharing (ICS from now one). I'm doing this for a number of reasons: I do have a network switch I hook my computer into. But, for a period of time each night, I have to unplug it. Don't ask me why. It's a long story. I do have wireless adapters that I use. However, they stopped being fully functional when we got a new wifi. But, we're not returning the wifi because all the laptops and smartphones can connect without any issues. Instead, I have opted to connect my desktop to my laptop via ICS and share the laptop's wifi. I was able to configure the IP addresses and Mask so that I could see the shared folders between the two computers. That's about as far as I got. How do I make it so the laptop shares it's internet connection with the desktop? [code]
I thought I might need to tweak the setting in ICS under the Settings button. But, I wasn't sure which IP address to use (most online instructions state that DHCP will assign the addresses and don't go in-depth or they have a rather bizarre IP setup).

I live in an apartment and I am forced to only use the apartment's internet service to go online. There are two ways to access the apartments network; via ethernet port or wifi. Once im connected and try to browse, I will first be taken an http login page to enter my username and password. The problem with this is I can only use the username and password for one computer at a time. Trying to get my second laptop to access the web using the same user and password will give me an error saying it is currently being used. As I have two laptops (work and personal), I would like to share the internet connection using a device that will allow either or both machines to connect simutaneously. What device will I need?

I am connected to a public wifi in my building thru built-in adapter of my laptop. I am running Windows 7 Home Basic. The connection allows only one device to run on one login name. I need to share this connection with my other device by turning my laptop into hotspot or thru ethernet. I have tried using Virtual Wifi Miniport and Connectify. I have tried LAN also. But I encounter the same problem in all the cases. As soon as I turn on internet sharing thru the properties of my public wifi connection, the Virtual Wifi or the LAN turn "Unidentified" and there is no internet on my other device. I even tried using a usb wifi adapter to connect to public wifi and sharing the internet over my laptop's adapter and vice versa but to no avail.

A Seimens Gigaset SE568 Wireless Router connected to a DSL Line and broadcasting a WIFI signal throughout my house. I receive this WIFI internet connection on my laptops using their respective WIFI adapters, and on my desktop using a GASKY GS-28USB Wireless USB Adapter, and use this internet connection simultaneously in both desktops and laptops. Now, I am shifing to a new 3G USB Mobile Broadband service:
Where I can directly connect the 3G USB Mobile Broadband Stick to my desktop or my laptop and use the internet directly, but not all at once through my router as was previously configured. Is there a way using the existing hardware, can I configure my desktop to share this internet connection and broadcast from the GASKY GS-28USB Wireless Lan Card to the Seimens Gigaset SE568 router and then throughout my house for simultaneous access, or directly share the internet through the GASKY adapter itself, or is there some other configuration I can use ?My Desktop has Windows 7 installed as an operating system.
