I'm new to the site and for the past couple of days I've been trying to figure out why my connection is so slow. I only get about 180kbps of download speeds so I originally thought it was my internet, but I went to test my connection speed on speedtest.net and I get around 1mbps. I also checked my network utilization through task manager and I'm not even using 1% Any Ideas as to why I can't make full use of my connection?
View 3 RepliesWe're since long having a problem with a DSL internet connection. The connection goes down periodically, for short times, and when performing speed tests, the connection speed varies and is usually lower (0.7 Mbit/s) than what the ISP promises (1.5-2 Mbit/s). Moreover, what modem is being used seems to have an effect.Now, I want to trouble-shoot this and get some hard facts on the behaviour of the connection. I would like to do repeated speed tests over say 24 h or so. They should be done every 3 min or so (to catch short glitches).
My question is: what software tool can I use for this? I have been searching the internet for hours, downloading a handful of applications, without finding anything that I could use. There are loads of applications that log and graph the current upload and download speeds, but that's something else - I need a tool that downloads/uploads files from/to a server, in intervals specified by me (3 min), logging the result and presenting it graphically.
Att says they are giving us 3mb/sec but we get 300kbps and speed tests from anywhere say we get 2.5 to 2.9 mb/sec yet even on unlimited bandwidth downloads(like torrents) with thousands of seeds connected and a few peers they never get faster than 340kb/sec.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I've noticed a big speed drop in my comcast internet. I went from routinely scoring over 20mbps on speedtest.net to around 11. Also, the upload test fails everytime. On every speed test site I've been to, the upload test completely fails. I haven't changed a thing so I have no clue why this would happen, but maybe it might have something to do with the speed decline.
I have an old WRT54G router that I've had for almost 10 years and I was thinking that maybe that was the problem. So I tried directly connecting my modem to my rig, but for whatever reason, I couldn't get it to work.
I can build unbeatable gaming rigs and program like crazy, but I just do not have networking in my skill set. It confuses the hell out of me and always seems to be completely random. What I can do to isolate and resolve my problem?
Oh, on one of the upload tests I got the following error.
"Trial measurement failed. Client can't send/receive UDP packs to server port 8601".
I bought an E2000 router as a replacement for my WRT54G router, since my internet speeds had been upgraded. But this E2000 router has been giving me nothing but trouble.
Wired through both the router or modem, I get my topspeed of 110mbps. However, as soon as I switch over to the wireless N function, my speed drops to only 25mbps. As far as I know, wireless N should have a much faster speed than that. Even my old WRT54G had faster speeds than this new router has. Mind you, that the distance between my laptop and router is about 3 inches away. The further I go away from my router, the speed exponentialy drops (20 feet, and the speed even drops to below 10mbps). Even with different laptops that have completely different wireless cards. Now honestly, I have tried EVERYTHING to get the speed up. Both 2.4 and 5ghz, 20mhz only, 40 mhz only, different channels (currently the router is in channel 11, being the only router in that channel), setting the network to G-only. I tried changing the Beacon interval thing in numerous settings, I even tried changing the MUT. Firmware is completely up to date. I have also tried placing the router on a completely different place, to make sure there was absolutely no interference (tough that shouldn't be an issue if my laptop is only 3 inches away) I tried changing the security mode to something different than WPA2/AES.
Nothing worked, if anything, it made it worse in some cases. I have litteraly tried every option I could find online, except for trying a third party firmware like DDWRT, which worked excellently for my old WRT54G, though I read that speeds can't be improved on this E2000 with a third party firmware.
Is there anything else I can do, or should I assume that my router is defective?
When I'm in my bedroom, I get a very poor connection and my speed drops to about 0.25mbps. Abysmal, so I bought a WiFi range extender to get me a better signal. It works, and it allows me to get a speed of about 5-6 mbps, without dropped connections. Still slow, but at least it works. The weird thing is, wired through my router or modem, I get about 9mbps upload speed. With this extender, I get the same 9mbps upload speed in my bedroom, though only 5-6 mbps download speed. You'd think that the upload speed would drop simultaneously with the download speed. How can my upload speed be higher (maxing out) than my download speed? I wonder if my transmitting antenna of my router isn't defective.
for some reason when I'm using high speed internet my internet explorer and i tunes work great. but when i use dial up my internet explorer tells me its unable to display every web page i type in. and when im on itunes when im using dial up i cant connect to the store, it says something like check your network connection and make sure its still active.

We had a Netgear router and attempted to replace it with a Linksys router.The firmware on both routers have been tested both old and new firmware.This happens to all computers/laptops connect to the network I do not receive a message stating that I was disconnected from the network, the internet simple cuts out for a little while and then comes back in.Cox says that they are 100% certain it is not on their end, nor is it the modem.The disconnects occur at random (there is no specific intervals). They last anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes.

With a wired computer (not wireless), connected directly to the router, the fastest internet download speed I get is 30Mbps. When I called Comcast's technical support, they are telling me I need a new router as the older routers can't handle these high internet speeds.

I've been gaming all day and my ping has been extremely high. I figured it was someone in my house downloading something but now it's... 1 a.m. I checked my whole house and shut down everyone's computers so I'm positive no one is stealing my bandwidth.

It was monday night when it started playing up. I literally have had it right now. To watch a simple 1 minute long video on youtube I will have to wait about 10 minutes before it is fully loaded. It takes about a minute to load an internet page and it is not just my computer, it is also happening on all other wireless devices and wired (3 laptops, 4 phones, ipad, ipos etc.)

My brother is spending far too much time on a silly internet game on his laptop (Maple Story) and its effecting his school and social life. We're trying to find a way to slow down how fast his internet speed is so his game runs poorly, hopefully making him stop playing. I've looked into blocking programs over routers but it seems like a tough job.

To be fair, it is in the middle of nowhere so the internet is probably very slow anyway, but here is my problem: Skype is so slow I can only just make a voice call, webcam chat is off the cards. I sometimes can't find networks that I know are there but this can be fixed sometimes by restarting. The biggest problem I have is the internet speeds are really slow. I'm running on an N router and I am only getting about 100kb/s when my other laptop is getting about 600kb/s to 1mb/s. I have no clue what is wrong. I was thinking of trying to change the wireless card but I don't want to be hasty.

my internet is being slow. It 'uplink' speed is 7mbps. when downloading or just surfing the internet 'task manager' says that the computer is using below 5% of the internet's speed capasity. it never gets higher than this, is there any way to change this so that i can us the full potential of the internets speed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently bought a 3G, 32MBit/sec (DC-HSPA+) connection with a ZTE MF680 Modem and a Dovado 3GN router. When I connect the modem directly to the computer I get around 20-25MBit/s which is great and acceptable. Problem is when I connect through the router I get max 3Mbit/sec.Connected via ethernet cable or Wireless (n/b+g+n) gives the same low speed results I have used the same APN (bredband.tre.se) in my router as is on the modem I have upgraded to the latest firmwares on the Router (latest firmware 5.0.5-3)I have swaped my modem to another one, to the Huawei E372 (latest firmware 11.203.05.00.00).
I have swaped my Router to another Dovado 3GN and updated to the latest firmware The modem is placed 2meters away from the router to reduce interference I have removed all my anti-virus and firewalls and I believe the router has no firewall and prior to that did a virus check, also with spyware doctor. I changed the SIM card, and got another from the ISP, no luck. The router's support says they recieve full speed (like 20Mbit) with the same hardware and firmware combination The 3G modem is exactly in the same place where I do the speed tests Speedtests done with [URL] and [URL] Pings are quite high in both cases when doing tracerts but while doing the speedtests they are between 45ms and 75ms?I have moved the config to another room, same results I have tried using no security on Wifi and also disabling WiFi. Recently I have noticed my internet get slow. I use a comcast cable internet connection that is directly connected to my dlink DR 655. I use the megapath internet speed test [URL] when testing my internet speed. Have a laptop that is usually on wireless and an XP workstation that is connected to the 655 directly with static IP.
I would be browsing the internet and all the sudden the internet would get really slow. This would happen on both my desktop and the laptop and my speed test on both machines would be around .3 Mbps. When this happens I would go and connect the laptop with the ethernet pot directly to the modem. Of course a reboot of the modem has to occur before a connection can be made so once I do that all the sudden my internet is back up to par (12 Mbps). I go ahead and put my network back to the way it was and it all goes back up to 12 Mbps. I have called comcast several times and they are telling me it my router.
This picture shows a snapshot of some windows from the laptop. The CMD ipconfig on the bottom left shows the laptop network settings when connected directly to the modem. The CMD ipconfig on the upper left is the network settings when connected to the router. The web page on the right shows the WAN network settings when the 655 is connected to the cable modem.
Notice the DNS servers, they are different when the 655 is connected to the modem versus when the laptop is connected to the modem. Could this be part of my problem? I have not seen were I can manually change 655 DNS entries ... is there a way to do this? Or should I not even be worried about it?
Webpages sometimes load quite sluggish and when playing an online game I am experiencing much more lag. However, if I try loading the same webpages a few minutes later, they will being loading fast again. It seems as if my internet is periodically slowing down. Using speedtest.net, it shows 10Mbps download and 9Mbps upload. However, sometimes when I run speedtest again, the download portion will hang and the test won't complete.My internet provider is COX Communications. I do not think I am using a router as it is university provided internet so I connect my Ethernet directly into the wall jack.

It seems to be the case that after we have had a router for about a year, my wife begins having trouble with her internet connection; slow speed, no connection, weak signal, etc. Resetting the router and cable modem will fix the problem, but the fix is only for a short time (an hour or a day). We purchase and install a new router, and everything is fine for about a year, then the problems re-emerge.I can't believe that a router "wears out" after a year or so, but that is certainly how it appears.My wife has a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7, I have a Mac, and our son has a Samsung with WIN 7. I don't experience these problems, and my son does not to the extent my wife does. There is obviously something going on with the Toshiba or its interface with the router, but rebooting the computer doesn't have any effect.

If I am downloading a file (1gb) on Desktop A and for some reason I have to stop it, then internet connection is desktop A , desktop B and laptop is almost killed. To get the speed back, I need to reboot Desktop A. All computers are on Windows 7.

I`m new here I recently purchased the dir-615. I started configuring with cd but i couldn`t get past the step where it should verify if cables are plugged in , so I did it manually. Some pages won`t load , internet speed is slow ( Both wireless and lan speed ) . I am using a PPPOE connection , I even got my ISP to check my settings, and he said it was alright but it reduces my speed by a lot. Usually I download with 1 MB/s with the router on wi-fi I hardly get 50 kb/s and on lan max is 100 kb/s.

I installed Comodo's Firewall and during installation I accepted to install the Secure DNS too. Afterward I noticed my web-pages loaded slower than usual. They weren't extremely slow but definitely slower than what I've been accustomed. I tried some OPENDNS servers and others to see if it made any difference but it didn't. I also went to my router's setup page((http://192.168.1.1/)so I could manually add the previously mentioned DNS servers. I finally decided to revert back to my old DNS list. To disable using the Comodo DNS servers I did the following:Wireless Network Connection Properties-> Internet Protocol Ver 4 (TCP/IPv4)-> Properties -> Select "Obtain DNS server address automatically"I also went into to my router's setup page (http://192.168.1.1/) to set my DNS list to zeros so that I can get back my default ISP's DNS servers (207.69.188.185,186,187). However, website loading is still sluggish.I thought the issue might just be a temporary hiccup from my ISP but my roommate doesn't have these issues. We tried a speed test at dslreports.com and the results were weird. On my laptop the results were 8500+ Kb/s with a 279ms latency. I was 10 ft away from my router.
