On start-up my laptop is slow to connect to the WiFi (about 1.5 mins). After connecting it works fine. When new laptop used to connect to WiFi much quicker, but now initial connection is slow.

I boot my computer at my company and if I immediately try, I can connect to the internet with IE or Chrome'm on my company's network. A few minutes after computer start up, I can no longer connect to the internet (times out). However, if I then open VPN, connect to the company network and turn right around and close VPN I now can connect to the internet. I've queried my IT group and they get a 'Huh?' expression on their face

I have an Dell Inspiron 1520.
My WRT54G2 v1 does not automatically connect to the internet on computer start-up. The computer will say "Connected, No Internet Access" In order to fix it I have to unplug the router and then plug it back in. This happens to any computer that tries to get online from a cold start-up. The router must always be unplugged, then plugged back in, then it will have internet access (and will generally maintain it throughout the session and even if the computer is restarted, i.e. warm boot). I have downloaded the latest firmware uprade.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden the wifi on my laptop has been really slow lately. I remember before I could stream 720p videos without any buffer on Youtube. Now I'm lucky if I can somewhat stream a 340p without the occasional stutters/buffers. Sometimes I would be getting 39 Mbps or 52 Mbps (if I'm really lucky) , but most of the times I would get either 26-19 Mbps. On all my other devices (iPod, Family Desktop, iPhone) the internet speed seems just fine as they can stream in 720p and browse without any network problems. Also I am upstairs with the router downstairs in the family room.
My results from Speedtest.net - 25 ms, 2.56 Mbps Download Speed, 0.38 Mbps Upload Speed.
This result is VERY UNSTABLE, sometimes I couldn't even get 1 Mbps download speed (more like 0.8). I would also have like 50 ms. I am running Windows 8 Pro with a Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop.DHCP is enabled. IPv6 is not. I made sure everything was updated using Windows Update. And I'm only using the windows defender firewall which I made wasn't blocking anything by disabling it and seeing if it cleared up any problems - which it did not, the same thing happened.
In University, the Wifi on my iPod is exceptionally fast. At home, I can't even load a Youtube video (music, no video) without having to give it about 20 minutes to let it buffer half way through, and the same thing on my Android phone. My Laptop is also on the network, but it is no where near as slow. I noticed the internet isn't as slow as Youtube is, so I guess it is just mainly streaming media that is slow. I have the D-Link DIR-185. I don't want to reset it, as it took me ages to get my printer set up on the network but if there are no solutions I might have to. As I am typing, the video has buffered 1/2 of the way there. I type 110WPM, so give it two minutes.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought the Asus N65U about 9 days ago. I had a terrible time trying to install it and using the automatic install it kept failing. I followed the directions and it kept telling me that 2 or more wired connections were detected. I only had the cable modem plugged in to the wan port and then the laptop directly to the router as the picture specified. I skipped it and did the QIS from the web interface and I got the router to work and everything is connected now. We are having a lot of issues with the connection dropping and on my desktop upstairs it is really slow (2mbs) and we currently have Time Warner 15 Mbs. My wife's laptop gets 20Mbs from speedtest .net but when watching videos and normal surfing it is slow. This is the same on my PC. Is there a setting or a way I can configure this to get this to work? I paid a decent amount of money and based off of good reviews I bought it but it is very unreliable.
I also tried to connect my work computer to it and it was good until I had to connect through a VPN to get to my work and from that point on I had to shut down the connection as it wouldn't stay online.
I have cable internet that is connected to a belkin wireless router. one computer gets slow internet access when connected to this. multiple other computers get better speed. the one affected computer gets fast speeds when accessing the internet at other locations, like a friend's house. also, the affected computer gets fast speeds when connected to the router by a cable.so the problem seems to be very specific to the connection between these specific devices.the laptop in question is a thinkpad e420 running windows 7.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI live in a townhouse in a college campus which means we all have the same ISP. I checked the channels and checked wifi stumbler. They both look good. For the last few days I have been getting really slow internet speeds after 7 pm till 1 am. I am paying for 25 mbps but around that time I get 0.5 mbps. I have the latest firmware for the router. I talked to customer support twice and all they did was reset my router and tell me to power cycle it. It can't be range of the router because my laptop is right next to it.

I have a 10 Mbps Internet connection, if I connect my PC directly to my modem I get the 10Mbps sometimes more, also I get them if I connect my modem to my switch and from the switch the computer.The problem comes when I connect my modem to the D-link DIR-600 router and from the RJ-45 connectors of the D-link I connect my computer, i get 0.80, 1.5 max. and my wifi devices gets the 10mbps. What is happening with the D-link RJ-45 slots or im missing something in the configuration?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy HP laptop connects to the router via wifi always. However page loading is very slow. The google home page can take 30-40 seconds. The other laptop we have works fine. If I connect the HP laptop to the router using a cable it runs very quickly always. I have nortons security installed on the HP laptop.I ran ipconfig/all. I pinged the router default gateway address and got back 192.168.0.1. This worked. I then opened a browser and tried to load a page. It was slow to load.I ran ipconfig/all again. The default gateway address had changed. When I pinged the original default gateway address it was losing 1-2 packets and the other packets were very slow. It seems like the router or wifi is losing packets and the default gateway address keeps changing.
I turned off the wifi and used a cable to the router. I ran ipconfig/all. I pinged the router default gateway address and got back 192.168.0.1. I did this several times and the same address came back. Unlike the wifi example above nothing was changing.It must be this laptop's settings as our two smartphones connect to the wifi router and the other laptop as well and speed is not an issue.
I have 3 laptops, an ipod and an Xbox connected wirelessly to my router. I have no troubles with either of them but one laptop which runs really slow through wi-fi. I have been reading on people with similar examples and here are some stuff I noticed.
1. The laptop is new and I ran it as a virus check with no viruses
2. I did notice two wifi adapters as follows. Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter and Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #2. They both show that they are working properly and I have checked for updates.
3. My router is a Netgear DGN1000 modem/router. It is also updated on firmware.
4. I have the right password etc.I do however have my xbox set up as DMZ and ports forwarded on the static IP for my xbox
My laptop has started to run slow on wifi - It used to speed test at around 13 meg consistantly but for the last couple of days its speed testing at between 0.5 - 1.5 meg on wifi If i plug in the ethernet it speed tests 13+meg the wireless router seems all ok as all my other devices still run at full speed, Iphone, blackberry,xbox etc

When I am using my Laptop, an HP Pavilion dv6 running Windows 7 with an AMD quad Core cpu, not the fastest of computers!, I seem to get WIFi speeds as low as 1700 whilst at other times can get 5000. Laptop! Is the speed drop a "computer problem" or a router one? If I connect the Laptop to the LAN the speed will always be at about 5100. My desktop computer is connected to the LAN and has a speed of 5100.I have the usual security set on the Router.

I've tries a lot of things already, resetting my Bell 2Wire modem outer, disabling and re-enabling my wifi, chaning the wireless network name and password, and even chaning the power settings for maximum wireless performance. Though I have noticed a little increase in speed with the last action, its still slower then it was when I first got my netbook back in september. I know the network is fine because my two computer connected by wires work just fine.

I'm using Comcast's xfinity gateway and i'm only getting speeds up to 5mbps on my wifi devices (iphone, ipad, apple tv, laptop) while on my desktop that is hardwired, i'm getting 50mbps.

I see this mostly on two BlackBerry Z10s, but also just saw it on my Wifi-connected PC when trying to download the latest DIR-655 firmware. The Z10s are screaming fast on Wifi at my work. They also do fine on YouTube and any other high bandwidth applications (I just tried Speedtest and got 11Mb/s). I think I can say that the slow speed is only when I'm downloading apps or updates on the phones.
I just updated my DIR-655 to the latest FW and have spent an hour flicking settings trying to find something that makes a difference. No luck. As it stands now, I'm downloading the latest OS upgrade to BB10 (345MB) at 100kB/s.
i'm overal content with the router. But i bought myself an ipad and an app to go with it,what it does it, you access your computer from your laptop. You can than transfer files onto the ipad.But the max speed while transfering is 4150kbps, kinda slow imo.

My wired connection speed stayed the same but my wireless speed degraded significantly - roughly from 5-8mbps to 200-300kbps.I measured my wireless speed both on win7 laptop and iPad. My Roku box is also struggling. All devices were in the proximity of the router.I tried changing encryption (WEP/WPA2/no encryption), mode (from b/g/n to b/g to just g), and different channels. Nothing worked, the speed is still very slow.

When I plugin with an ethernet cable to the router, I have no problems and I get the full 15mbps speed when doing speed tests and downloads. IE, Firefox, and Chrome all work fine.When I use the wireless, I only get 5mbps in IE and Firefox, but I get the full 15mbps again when using Chrome.I'm starting to wonder if there are shared Windows components being used by Firefox and IE, but not being used by Chrome. I have reinstalled my wireless adapter driver and it didn't affect anything. I've disabled Windows Firewall, checked for malware, confirmed no proxy was setup in Internet Options, on and on...
I have a Linksys N Router connected to a Windows 7 computer. My wired connection through Comcast is an average of 25 Mbps. In the bedroom above me I have another computer with a Linksys N Adapter on Windows Vista. I am receiving a strong WiFi signal on an average of 240 Mbps. However, my internet downstream is less than 1 Mbps and the upload is over 3 Mbps. I've updated the router's firmware and reset it twice. I've also tried changing the channels and switching to broadcasting "N" only. Linksys won't facilitate because it's out of warranty.
View 3 Replies View RelatedNormally use internet explorer 9, but I've tried Firefox and Chrome also.For some weird reason the Wi-Fi on my computer is super slow. My roommate has no problems at all. Same issue when only one of us are connected. What's really weird is that it's only on my home network the speed is a problem. At school and at other family members houses everything is working perfectly. I now use wired internet connection, and when I take a speedtest it is around 13MB, so the speed is pretty good.
I can mention that sometimes if my computer has been closed and the cable is taken out, when I turn the computer back on the Wi-Fi is suddenly working perfectly. Only for a while though, and then it's not working anymore. Has happened more rarely recently.I've been having this problem for around 7weeks now. When I first discovered the problem I tried to uninstall the latest updates (among windows updates), and it actually worked. But I want my computer to be up to date, so it's not a go to use those settings.

I recently installed a new SSD and a fresh windows install.After reinstalling everything,I connected my LAN cable and had issues that it would constantly connect and disconnect.Even the lights on the back were flashing on and off.If it stayed on long enough it would establish a connection. I am using my motherboard build in lan adapter.I have a Asus P8P67 Pro, which has the Intel� 82579, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller. I was able to establish a connection perfectly fine through my wlan stick.I went to the Asus website and downloaded their drivers for the Lan Controller. This did not fix anything.I attempted numerous install and deinstall of the drivers. At that point I went directly to the Intel website and downloaded their most recent drivers. After installing the Intel drivers, I was able to keep a connection, but it was very very slow.Through Lan connection i am barely able to open up Google, but every time I attempt a speed test, the connection is too slow. Though when I connect through Wlan,I get the full connection speeds.The router I am using is a Netgear DG834G v4. Also tested various cable just incase that might be the issue. Also,when i use the same cable and connect it to my Laptop, I get the full connection and no issues.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought an alienware M18x, and set it up a few days ago. all of the drivers are up to date. Yet my internet is still slow (about half the time). I run a speed test, and it says my download speed is 0 mbps for a few moments, then it skyrockets and averages out to about 8. The upload speed is more consistent, but only at 0.3 mbps. I have centurylink at up to 12, and they've told me that the connection itself is fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wrt54g (firmware old - v1.00.6) has run fine for years until my daughter got a laptop with win7. All my other systems still run XP or win2k. I only run wireless with her win7 and one netbook with xp, all the other connections are wired.
Going to speedtest.net and after I reset (pull power) the router, I get 20Mbps download. After the win7 wifi runs for a bit, download speed drops to 2 Mbps or less. It seems to be after she goes to you tube and starts watching videos. If I reset again, it immediately goes back to the full speed of 20. I measure this after she's taken her laptop off the network. So, whatever her win7 is doing, it stays that way after she disconnects (i.e. slow on my other systems) until the reset. I also measured the speed on her win7 system and it also would slow there as well and speed up after a reset (for a while).
My N150 wireless router sees 25mb+ speed from my internet connection but my wireless connects at 1mb. Why is the WiFi being resricted?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Sony Vaio laptop is experiencing slow internet speed even though the signal level shows as excellent. This is only when using it upstairs, where it is normally used. In the same room as the router it is fine. This has only just starting happening and it was OK anywhere in the house until a couple of days ago. To make it even more confusing my wife's notebook and my iphone work fine on the network in the bedroom.
