I'm using Comcast's xfinity gateway and i'm only getting speeds up to 5mbps on my wifi devices (iphone, ipad, apple tv, laptop) while on my desktop that is hardwired, i'm getting 50mbps.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyway, a neighbour is letting us share their broadband by way of a wifi connection (on a very long USB lead into the front garden...) but this only works on one PC.The PC is right next to the Orange router (Brightbox) but so far I've failed to do anything like bridge the connections from wifi to ethernet to the router and beyond. Should I persevere with this? I don't understand how this would work in terms of DHCP and routing IP traffic.I'm prepared to buy new kit if necessary (but not much). Most of my equipment is wifi enabled but due to the signal strength of my neighbour's wifi you have to be on the front lawn to get a signal.

In the bedroom above me I have another computer with a Linksys N Adapter on Windows Vista. I am receiving a strong WiFi signal on an average of 240 Mbps. However, my internet downstream is less than 1 Mbps and the upload is over 3 Mbps. I've updated the router's firmware and reset it twice. I've also tried changing the channels and switching to broadcasting "N" only. Linksys won't facilitate because it's out of warranty.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed a new SSD and a fresh windows install.After reinstalling everything,I connected my LAN cable and had issues that it would constantly connect and disconnect.Even the lights on the back were flashing on and off.If it stayed on long enough it would establish a connection. I am using my motherboard build in lan adapter.I have a Asus P8P67 Pro, which has the Intel� 82579, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller. I was able to establish a connection perfectly fine through my wlan stick.I went to the Asus website and downloaded their drivers for the Lan Controller. This did not fix anything.I attempted numerous install and deinstall of the drivers. At that point I went directly to the Intel website and downloaded their most recent drivers. After installing the Intel drivers, I was able to keep a connection, but it was very very slow.Through Lan connection i am barely able to open up Google, but every time I attempt a speed test, the connection is too slow. Though when I connect through Wlan,I get the full connection speeds.The router I am using is a Netgear DG834G v4. Also tested various cable just incase that might be the issue. Also,when i use the same cable and connect it to my Laptop, I get the full connection and no issues.

I recently purchased an E1200 to replace a broken router. I have had good experiences with this model in the past which is why I bought it. However this has not been so pleasant. For some reason the internet connection over wifi is INCREDIBLY slow. I don't know why. It is fast when connected via ethernet to the router. I changed the MTU on the router to 1400, I set the wireless width to 20MHz and the channel to 11. I set security to WPA2. And yet it is still very very slow. It's not a matter of how many users are on the network; I live in a house with five other people and it's slow regardless of whether everybody's home or nobody is home. It's like this on Macs, PCs, phones and even the Xbox 360. I just did a speed test. Wired was about 14MBps down, wireless was around .7MBps down. I simply cannot comprehend this discrepancy. The old router was very unreliable in terms of connectivity but at least it was always fast. And my laptop is fast at my mom's house where she has an E1200. I use a MacBook Pro from 2009 but like I said,this seems to be affecting everybody in the house regardless of hardware.The modem is a Ubee modem from Comcast. I'd upgrade it to a SURFBoard but my landlord controls all the utilities and I'd rather not have to explain to him how to call Comcast and tell them to register the modem's serial number to the account or whatever.

I've just bought a TP-Link TL_WR1043ND and when I was configuring the wireless settings first I had a +- 40Mbps connection,a little later the connection dropped to 4Mbps and was constantly dropping the speed.Sometimes it went to 15Mbps and then it drops back to 4Mbps.Right now its only 1Mbps.

I bought comcast xfinity internet about a month ago, and I cannot get any upload speed. It's jammed up at about .40, and I'm paying for 3-4 mbs. My plan is 15/3, but the download speed is always over 20 mbs, while the upload is .40.
Comcast has been here twice with two new modems, and ran brand new cable under the house, because they said the signal was weak. Now it's strong, the modem is fine, and there is STILL no upload. I can barely upload pics to photobucket. Comcast basically told me there is nothing wrong on their end, and there is nothing they can do. The signal is strong, the modem is fine, the cabling is fine, and they are providing their service on their end.

I switched to xfinity and I really don't feel like renting their gateway for $7 dollars a month. Gateways are crap anyways. So do any of you know of a good router and modem that can be paired up to work well with xfinity and has good speed?

I have a phone line that comes into the house and then into gateway (10.0.0.2) then ethernet from that to linksys wifi router (192.168.1.1). So I did the following ping and repeated what you see below a few times to see that these results were broadly consistent, which was the case. One other person is connected to linksys via ethernet cord and they might have been on at the time. Questions are.... are these results consistent with contention caused by other user on the linksys? and why can I ping gateway but not the router? That makes no sense to me! I am not annoyed with the other person if he is hogging the network...I like him. I just wonder whats going on. When the internet works results from pinging are all as one would expect

I just recently purchased comcast internet today and self installation kit that came with the modem and all..... got it all set up no problems activated did speed test directly from cable modem to laptop computer wired and was getting 10mbps down and 3mbps up well went out and bought a linksys e900 wireless router.... connected it no problems... however my laptop wireless and phones connected to the router with speedtest is only getting 300kbps down average!!! but the upload is still 3mbps.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo here is what happened, it started two days ago. I use a wifi connection at work, it's an unsecure wifi and I don't know where it comes from. But I am able to get on here at work and do stuff... two days ago I tried and it let me on like normal, but then I couldn't get on websites, it said local access only... so I was like mmm that's odd and the little CD looking thing wasn't there it was just two computers on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. So I restarted after attempting a few times... same problem, finally after a while it let me online but it was very slow and kept kicking me off. When I would try to reconnect sometimes it wouldn't let me and it would give me the option to diagnose the problem or try a new network, I'd move around and finally get on.
I restored back to a day when it was working fine, I did a disc clean up, I used my CCleaner, I defragged my laptop. Still the same problem, my laptop is a Gateway computer running on Windows Vista... so today at first my wifi wouldn't work unless I was standing and holding it... which I found the higher in the air the better it stays connected it seems sometimes.I chatted with gateway and they gave me a few links to download which failed to download once they got to like 30% or so, so I am all out of options I downloaded the wifi link here Download free driver for notebook Gateway ML3109 (Windows 7, XP, Vista) - DriverPack Solutio since that is my laptop
Built in wifi causing blue screen of death. Disabled built in wifi and purchased USB N150 adaptor and blue screen of death has stopped. Download speed are 75% back to normal but surfing is extremely slow using chrome, IE, safari. Ethernet browsing is normal with no bugs or bluescreen.

View 1 Replies View Relatedhrome threw me a DNS lookup failed. I go into my network settings and I noticed that I had limited connectivity. It would switch between no network access and no internet access every few seconds. After a bit of fiddling around, I got it to connect through assigning myself a static IP. This isn't exactly convenient because I use this computer on multiple networks. When I try to have it on automatic IP, I get no IP address or default gateway when I do an ipconfig /all. It would appear that my router quit assigning my laptop an IP for no reason whatsoever. DHCP is enabled on the router, and all other devices work fine. What could possibly be the problem here? I'm 99% sure it's not an IP conflict either. It's not being MAC filtered because I'm on the thing right now posting this through a static IP. It's not my A/V because it's worked great in the past. Perhaps I should also mention it occasionally says "unidentified network" instead of the SSID

It gives the "Limited or no connectivity" message, even if the ethernet cable is unplugged (no "a cable has been unplugged" message)
The laptop is plugged in to an EWIRE modem/router. Desktop connects fine via ethernet, as does my PlayStation 3 console via wireless. So I don't think it has to do with the modem/router. It's a Compaq from 2005 or so. Windows XP Pro SP3.

I have a general knowledge of fixing the typical internet connection problem (obtain DNS automatically, repair connection, unplug modem for 20 seconds, etc) but I've never been this stumped before.
I have a server (Windows Server 2003) that randomly looses connection with the default gateway and anything on the outside. When this happens, the server cant ping the gateway (A Juniper SSG5 firewall/router) and the gateway cant ping the server. But the server still can ping anything else on the network and everything inside the network works fine with it. The most reliable remedy is to reboot the router. Rebooting the server or resetting the network card sometimes works. I have tried both onboard network cards and a separate PCI network card on the server. There are no router log entries that correspond to the problem. This server is used as a Terminal Server for a remote office and as a file server.

What im thinking is we hook each gateway up to a host pc (server) and go out from there to a switch (one line dedicated input, the other output as to not clog throughput), then from the switch out to two pc's in the house. phones xbox ect can use its own router(s) in theory would this work.
