Slow Net With 1 Computer And Home Wifi
Jan 13, 2013
I have cable internet that is connected to a belkin wireless router. one computer gets slow internet access when connected to this. multiple other computers get better speed. the one affected computer gets fast speeds when accessing the internet at other locations, like a friend's house. also, the affected computer gets fast speeds when connected to the router by a cable.so the problem seems to be very specific to the connection between these specific devices.the laptop in question is a thinkpad e420 running windows 7.

Normally use internet explorer 9, but I've tried Firefox and Chrome also. For some weird reason the Wi-Fi on my computer is super slow. My roommate has no problems at all. Same issue when only one of us are connected. What's really weird is that it's only on my home network the speed is a problem. At school and at other family members houses everything is working perfectly. I now use wired internet connection, and when I take a speedtest it is around 13MB, so the speed is pretty good.
I can mention that sometimes if my computer has been closed and the cable is taken out, when I turn the computer back on the Wi-Fi is suddenly working perfectly. Only for a while though, and then it's not working anymore. Has happened more rarely recently.I've been having this problem for around 7weeks now. When I first discovered the problem I tried to uninstall the latest updates (among windows updates), and it actually worked. But I want my computer to be up to date, so it's not a go to use those settings.
I have tried to reset the router to factory settings, but that did not work.We share internet with our landlord, so to privatize what we do, it's set up like this: Landlords modem -> switch in our apartment -> wireless router But that should not be problem. It's working on everyone else's computers. My mobile phone as no issues either;I've tried to update the driver on the wireless card, but it's up to date.

When I try to go to certain websites on my home PC they take up to several minutes to load. It does not matter what browser I use. When I visit the same sites from work (or any other place, literally) the sites load without delay of any kind.

I've got a 200mbps down/100mbps up fiber connection at home. When I do a speedtest I get around 192mbps down which is more then enough. However my problem lies around my upload speed, but only on ONE computer.

Here's my setup:
1. 15mbps comcast xfinity cable broadband connection
2. Motorola cable modem
3. Netgear wireless router
4. Dell Inspiron 1520 w/ Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
5. Windows XP
When I plugin with an ethernet cable to the router, I have no problems and I get the full 15mbps speed when doing speed tests and downloads. IE, Firefox, and Chrome all work fine. When I use the wireless, I only get 5mbps in IE and Firefox, but I get the full 15mbps again when using Chrome.I'm starting to wonder if there are shared Windows components being used by Firefox and IE, but not being used by Chrome. I have reinstalled my wireless adapter driver and it didn't affect anything. I've disabled Windows Firewall, checked for malware, confirmed no proxy was setup in Internet Options, on and on...

I am having troubles connecting my laptop to my wireless router. Currently, I am hardwired to my internet (totally defeating the purpose of having a laptop...). My computer sees the network, but when I try to connect it, it says "UNABLE TO CONNECT", yet I can connect to other networks... All the other computers in the house along with game consoles connected just fine once I put in our password

I recently got my laptop fixed after it being out of commission for about a year (it turns out there was just too much dust collecting in it) and when I got home and tried to connect to my wifi network, I didn't have internet access. I received a message that said I had sucessfully connected to my network but it was only a local connection - no internet. It also shows up as "Unidentified Network." This is peculiar to me because my boyfriend's laptop is able to connect to the internet wirelessly just fine, and I am currently using the wifi on my iPhone. I ran the ipconfig and several ping tests in cmd and used a wifi inspector.

I have several different computers that connect to my home wifi connection through my router and they are either Windows Vista or Windows XP. This is the only Windows 7 I think or maybe not, I have a new little mini that has Windows 7 I think, however, I am not able to get this computer to connect. I have unplugged the modem, unplugged the router, restarted my computer, checked my wifi connection and no matter what I do it will not connect.

I've been having an issue with my computer for a few months now. I'm quite capable of handling computers and repairs but this has me stumped. I have no issues connecting to the wireless internet at my office. It's tied directly to the company server so that's no surprise. While using Holiday Inn's internet this is also NO problem. When I'm at my house it's another story. If I boot my computer with wifi shutoff and ethernet disconnected the computer runs just fine. When I engage the WIFI or connect the ethernet the computer becomes non-responsive. The curse still moves but nothing is opening, closing, clearing off the screen. When I ctrl+alt+del, click task manager my desktop image appears but NO windows tool bar nor task manager appears. Not only does this occur on my home wifi, but my girlfriends parent's house and at an official Google job site.
It may also be worth mentioning that when coming back from a hibernation, (the black screen with the load bar on the bottome "resuming windows") it loads about 20% and stops, never loading the rest (I've waited hours before, NOTHING). My initial thoughts where that the Symmantec Endpoint Security had blocked certain router IP addresses and was causing the freezes. But this didn't seem to be the issue since my company deleted the Symmanted software and installed McAfee to fix my issue. I can connect to wifi at my office and holiday inn express BUT NOT at my home, other private networds, nor the Google jobsite wifi. My Smmantec Norton Enpoint Security was removed and replaced with McAfee Security. My laptop is an HP ProBook 6460b running Windows XP (5.1 with service pack 3).

I use a Dell 2010 laptop. I have consistently been able to use wifi. On 1 Jan I moved into a new apartment shared with a friend. My friend allows me to use the wifi by sharing the password. My friend's computer is a MacBook. But I cannot access wifi! Why is that? I am able to see the available connections and to see the one that my friend is using. But I am unable to access it. I tried manually adding the new wifi network. It shows up with "limited access" -- it does not enable use of internet.

My Wifi network has a wpa2 password that is a random string of characters and numbers and yet last month a rogue IP Address kept popping up on my DNS list. It has to be coming from my neighbor who's bedroom is about 15 feet away from my router. So unless someone is sitting out on my front lawn to do this then it must be him.I've been looking for software that will notify me when a connection my router is attempted and kudos if it also asks my permission first would be great. There are wifi packet sniffers out there like Cain&Abel, Airsnort, that sort of thing but I am not quite savvy enough nor do I want to turn this into a complicated hobby but just need a basic warningin case something gets past my passwords again

I am using a Windows 7 64-bit machine to connect to the internet. I'm using a Netgear WNR834M Wireless Router. With the hard line to the modem, speedtest.net gives me around 22 Mbps. With the hard line through the wireless router, I also get the same. Wirelessly, I get around 0.5, but my girlfriend's Win XP computer is getting around 19-21.why there's a huge slowdown in wireless connectivity with my machine?

I just installed a wifi card in the back of my computer. it only seems to recognize about half of the networks that my laptop recognizes (sometimes it doesn't seem to find my own wifi for a while), but shows everything with full green bars. connecting is difficult but can be done. it shows that my connection is healthy, but the internet is very very slow, it takes about a minute to load google. i am comparing the connection on my machine to the one on my laptop, and they seem pretty much identical (this is info i've gathered through ipconfig /all and also network connection details in windows 7). the only different information is that the IPv4 addresses are slightly different for each machine (which i think is correct). when i diagnose the connection it says that ''the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding"
i've tried flushing and renewing and releasing my IP in command, i've rebooted and reset the router about a billion times to no avail, i've got the latest drivers for the wifi card ('sabrent wireless-g 802.11g pci adapter / ralink turbo wireless lan card).. i tried changing my preferred/alternate DNS entries to google and the other one everyone recommends.. nothing is working. the internet is still exceptionally slow and the connection occasionally drops for a second or two.

I've got 3 computers. All running Windows 7 Home Premium. My desktop has an entire drive shared. I initially was having problems accessing the drive from both my HTPC and my laptop. I flushed the dns and reset winsock. reset IPv4 TCP/IP,and reset IPv6 TCP/IP.This fixed the problem from the laptop to the desktop, but the HTPC is still having problems accessing the desktop. The desktop however has no problems accessing the HTPC.Also have disabled auto tuning and the rdc.Forgot to add: Laptop is wireless the other two are wired.

the internet today became insanely slow (I have wireless fyi) , something like 100 kb/s which used to be 2.0 mb/s. I can't even load a YouTube video at 360p. A few things have happened recently which may be the cause. First, I left my computer on all night, but since it has been off, so I don't think thats it. My mom recently turned off my computer by holding down the power button. I have searched my computer for viruses with 4 different programs and nothing has come up. I have also restarted my router and modem multiple times and nothing has happened. AND, I did a 3 hour long fragmentation of my hard drive/ cleaning of the computer.

I bought a sony vaio I3 2.1 ghz 4mb ram laptop yesterday, and it has a very unstable wireless internet connection. The internet might be super slow at first, then drop entirely to where it says "you are not connected to the internet," then after not changing anything it will have a normal connection speed for a few minutes before repeating this cycle again. I have a macbook pro that I've had for two years connected to my wireless internet, and it has never had a problem. Even now it runs as usual on the wireless internet. I also have two ps3s that are working fine on the wireless, so I know it's not the router or signal.

Last month I decided to upgrade my network and switch everything from 10/100 to 10/100/1000 (gigabit). My setup I'm struggling with right now :
Desktop Running Win 7 x64 with a 1 gigabit NIC (running latest drivers from Intel)
Linksys E3200 Router w/ Cisco 10/100/1000 x 4 ports (Latest firmware)
USB 2.0 NAS with a WD 160SB HD 7200rpm (100MB/s)
On file transfers from the NAS connected to the Router, connected to the desktop with a CAT 5e 5ft cable, I'm pulling 9.5 MB/s MAX
Everyone I talk to say, "wow, that's what 10/100 runs" and that I'm not running one gigabit. They say I should be seeing at least 20MB/s. What am I doing wrong here? I've trying play with buffer size, settings on the NIC, MTU on the router. I'm lost at what to do.

I have a homeplug network as follows:
6x 85Mbps homeplugs in different rooms, each connected to a 5 port switch
2x rooms contain a PC
5x rooms contain a Squeezebox of various types
Router connected to homeplug
I have realised that I am only getting very slow network speeds of between 10-15Mbps (LAN SPeed Test)which affects Squeezebox's ability to play several devices synched up at a time playing 320Kbps MP3s
I have done some proprietory testing in my home by switching devices on & off & testing network speed accordingly but no significant gains seem to be made. One PC seems to report far lower speeds though at 5Mbps which is 3 times lower than the other PC. They are set up to read/write files from eachothers shared folders (but not simultaneously).1st question is, am I being realistic about the speed of data throughput I expect on a network of this type? I was expecting a much higher speed like 50Mbps.I wouldn't mind investing in the faster Homeplug system but having to buy 6x adapters isn't worth it if I will only get a marginal improvement.

I've just setup a box with Windows Home Server 2011 RC. It's a AMD X2 with 3GB RAM. Everything is fine with that, but I'm noticing my internal network speeds are pretty slow. I'm seeing on average 0.8MB/s transfer speed between my PC's and the server, and between the PC's themselves. I have everything wired through a Linksys WRT54GS router. Is this as much as I can expect from this setup? It's painful trying to copy media files (music, pictures and HD video) to the server at such slow speeds! What would I need to do to get better speeds? I'm assuming a different router could do better.

When connected to my router on my main desktop, I get download speeds of about .3-.85 mbps, I have comcast and a linksys N router, as well as a N wireless adapter in my desktop. If I use my laptop, I get around 10 mbps download speed, (Speeds are as of [URL]) but they still remain at .3 mbps on my desktop. I have tried two different wireless adapters in my computer. One is the Linksys AE2500 Dual Band N adapter, and the other is an ASUS N13 N Adapter. I have gotten the latest drivers of both adapters, but speeds stayed very low. When I connected the computer via ethernet cable, it ran at 16mbps. So I think that something must be wrong with some wireless settings, since I've tried 2 different adapters and was getting the same result, unless both were faulty I suppose. I also don't think it's my router's issue, because the wireless is working great on other wireless devices. I am using windows 7 on the desktop.

It jumps up to 1000. Also when I go on any website at all, my ping goes super high. It happens mainly on websites which have flash on it. I have a Belkin F6D4050 Enhanced Wireless USB Adapter. I thought it was the USB but it wasn't, because when I put the USB into another computer, the internet was fine. The ping didn't skyrocket or anything. It was constantly low.

It should be known that this is not MY specific issue, it's a friend's issue... but I am posting it for him as I know nothing about networking. Don't worry though, anything you post here I will relay for him to do.Is this a wired or wireless connection issue?

How to run and post an ipconfig /all output of the computer(s) in question for review. Here it is:

So here's the deal, my friend has horrible down speed, usually less than 1MB/s according to Speedtest.net, sometimes it hits 2MB/s. However, his brother's in the house have at least 17MB/s, which I can assume is their actual speed that my friend should have... however, he specifically does not.He had a very old wireless card that was installed on his motherboard (desktop PC) that I assumed was the issue upon him first telling me, and from the issues I was personally able to see. For example, he'd constantly disconnect... his internet would just die for him specifically, and then come back. His brother's never lost internet when he did.
After that, I figured his very old wireless card that was installed was just kicking the bucket, so I instructed him to replace it. He went out and bought a new wireless USB adapter, and then uninstalled the network card.Even after all of this, his internet is still poor in terms of down speed. HOWEVER, rather than his internet dying for a few minutes at a time every so often, his internet "stays connected" if that makes sense? For example, we'll be on Skype in a conference call, and his internet will be loading pages very slowly, and Skype will constantly show that it's going from "green - online" to "gray circle - connecting". During this, he's still in Skype, but it's very poor quality from him speaking, and laggy as well.

In the past few weeks, my desktop's wireless connection has become impossibly slow and laggy. It takes long times to load and routinely drops or stutters in its connection, which makes online gameplay very inefficient if not impossible. Prior to this, it was running fine.My wife's netbook and my work laptop both run normally and fine off the connection. The ping rates for those computer, tested at the exact same time as my desktop, are both good while my desktop's ping and jitter are horrible. So I have the feeling it is not really a networking issue, but more something with the wireless card or another issue with my desktop itself. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 531, probably about 3 years old, which as I mentioned ran fine with the wireless before. I am running Vista. In the past several months, the computer fan would kick in really hard and often at graphically intense moments though it doesn't do it any more (yes, it is still running at normal speed), so I'm not sure if the card itself was overheated and damaged? Since the others run fine?

Ok I have 8 computers 2 computer will have a camera attached to it importing photos as they are being shot. (2 photo stations) Trick is I need to transfer all photos taken in real time to the remaining 6 computers at the same time. What is the best way to do this and what software to export all photos to the six computers. I'm running windows 7. I set this up as a home group but it was really slow. When I tried to use a network printer it would freeze the network? I need it to monitor new files as the photos come in. Also all photos also need to be copied to 6 different computers so guest could access their photo on any computer. This is how I currently have it set up. I have 2 Computers with cameras attached that takes the photos and sends them to PC1 (My Server Computer) The server computer also has the network printer attached. Each photo is about 300K-500K size.
Different photo is transfer every 15 seconds. The server computer is also connected to the other 5 Computers. The guest goes to one of the computers, scans a card and their photo pops up which is located on the server computer, they also have an option to print the photo. The problem is when the guests scans their card the photo is very slow to pull up ( about 15-20 seconds ) Second is when they hit print it freezes up sometimes for up to 2 minutes. I connected as a home group and first did connection wireless Then connect everything through a Ethernet cord which speed it just a little not much. Questions Do I need a better server computer?
