Dell Inspiron 531 / Slow Wireless On One Computer
Jan 7, 2012
In the past few weeks, my desktop's wireless connection has become impossibly slow and laggy. It takes long times to load and routinely drops or stutters in its connection, which makes online gameplay very inefficient if not impossible. Prior to this, it was running fine.My wife's netbook and my work laptop both run normally and fine off the connection. The ping rates for those computer, tested at the exact same time as my desktop, are both good while my desktop's ping and jitter are horrible. So I have the feeling it is not really a networking issue, but more something with the wireless card or another issue with my desktop itself. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 531, probably about 3 years old, which as I mentioned ran fine with the wireless before. I am running Vista. In the past several months, the computer fan would kick in really hard and often at graphically intense moments though it doesn't do it any more (yes, it is still running at normal speed), so I'm not sure if the card itself was overheated and damaged? Since the others run fine?

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15R at the weekend and I am having problems with the wireless internet speed.I have Virgin Media broadband in the UK, my package is 50Mbps. This is via a Virgin Media super hub and is only 1 month old.The internet speed on my new Dell is very slow in comparison to my old laptop (an HP) so I tested the connection using Speedtest.net. [code]
As you can see the HP is consistent on both the wireless network and hard wired but the performance of the Dell is excellent on a wire but terrible on wireless. Some further info - I bought Norton 360 with the laptop, the above results were achieved with that installed. I have since uninstalled that and there was no difference to the speedtest.net. I then turned off the windows firewall and again it made no difference to the results.

Just received the above laptop from Dell Outlet. First of all I have a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen - will be taking this up with Dell as its really off putting especially on brand new laptop. My second issue is with wireless - did have problems initially with wireless disconnects and generally slow speeds. Im not entirely sure but removing Mcafee seemed to work with the disconnects at least - load of rubbish imo. Now my only other major issue is with wireless speeds on the 1703 card. I seem to max out at about 45mb on all broadband speed tests - while on another laptop I get the full speeds of 80mb on the same server at the same location.
Im only getting a link speed of 72Mbps in the networking tab of Task Manager and this does seem rather slow - the other laptop gets 450Mbps (better wireless card - to go with my Asus N66U Router)Anyway my thought process is that the 1703 wireless card is not up to much in the inspiron 14z- I understand that the 1703 card is wireless and bluetooth - with I think 1 antenna for bluetooth and one for wireless connected to the wireless card. Now I don't use bluetooth much if at all - so does it make sense to buy just a wireless card and connect the two antennas to the card and therefore losing bluetooth connectivity but gaining better wireless connection??? any wireless card recommendations??I think I have an Intel Centrino WiFi Ultimate N 6300 in the other laptop by the way.

I bought my Inspiron 15R 5520 yesterday evening. Today when I was using my laptop on wireless network then I realized that it's very slow. Then I used application speedtest.net to check the download speed, it's just 9.09 Mbps instead my old HP laptop was receiving 43 Mbps.
I have Network Adpater : Intel Centrino Wireless N 2230 having version number 15.5.7.52 which is latest.

I recently bought a new Inspiron 15R Special Edition less than 3 weeks ago. It has recently started playing up with the internet. I've reset the router, and deleted and reconnected to the internet connection but it has stayed the same.
I have also been having problems with some computer programs. McAfee and windows threat both decided to shut down along with the firewalls. The security seems to be up and running now but my firewall doesn't seem to want to turn on.

Bought a brand new Dell Inspiron 15r N5110 a week ago. I've looked through all the posts. I tried 3 different browsers, I updated drivers, firmware, BIOS, re-seated the wireless antennas under the memory module, even got a new router and modem changed settings on the router, yet still! Every solution I could find, I've executed but still have a wireless speed test yielding less than 1.0 mbps. My 4 year old laptop runs smooth, my iPad runs smooth, all other devices run smooth.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 running Windows Vista with a Broadcom 440x10/100 Integrated Controller. I've had the computer for 5 years, and have always connected to the internet using wireless with no problem. Just moved to a new place, don't have a router yet, and now when I try to connect via the ethernet cable my internet is sooo slow, taking about a minute to load a page. My roommate's computer runs great using the ethernet.

I have a Dell Inspiron One 2320 with a WiFi problem.
I say this because my old Toshiba laptop, using my house wireless router, achieves 20MB/s on a download speedtest and the Inspiron happily does this when directly connected to the router.
I have downloaded the latest WiFi driver etc.

A few months ago, I had a trojan on my pc. I got it all squared away, however, since then I am having trouble with upload times. I am a photographer and I upload to 4 sites frequently (walmart, facebook, zenfolio and mpix). But ever since I had to revamp my pc, just to upload my pictures to a site could take hours which is just ridiculous!
My dad suggested doing a factory restore but that would create hours of work just trying to get all of my programs back. I have run the diagnostics on this site and they all have showed up 'passed'.Here are the specs of my pc...Inspiron 560 with Windows 7 home premium

Just got Dell Inspirion 410 Zino delivered today. Thought it will start rolling right after I unpack it and push the start button, but this wasn't the case.
It's about the wireless adapter, it's so miserably slow one can't use it even on local network, getting online is out of the question. Constantly loosing the connection too. At first I suspected there could be something wrong with my router, but checking and double checking all the settings didn't work. Besides, I've got several other computers online and everyone's happy except Zino. Even little ipod is faster than Zino which I wanted for streaming the movies in the first place. Well, right now I can hardly get to google home page...

I'm using Dell Inspiron 1525. i just reformatted it because of some hard disc's problems. the first night after it is repaired, everything is okay. the internet is fast. but the next day, the internet is just running really slow, i dont even think i have loaded a complete page for the past 3 days, let alone downloading stuff.
well, i've tried most of the solutions i found online like turning off IPV6 and something else but the internet is still slow. and im using a ADSL modem, not a wireless one. the internet works just fine with other laptops. i called my technichian and asked. he said its the matter about laptop brands. every laptop has different.. i dont understand what he's talking about. so..
i used to have slow internet connection before reformatting but i thought its cause by my overloaded laptop memory, but now that it's reformatted i hardly have any software in it so what can i do?

A month after i had this laptop(bought new) its started have insanely slow connection times after booting up. The little blue circle starts to twirl meaning its searching for a wireless network. It then freezes and takes about 1 min- 5min to actually come back to normal and connect to a network. If i hibernate or standby there is no such problem, only after a fresh reboot. For this reason i usually never turn off my laptop, thus avoiding a lot network connection wait.

I have a Dell Inspiron 2320 computer. I have only had it for 9 months and it is running extremely slow. If I click on a website, it takes forever to load up. When I get frustrated from waiting, I'll hit CTRL + ALT + DEL and go to task manager. When the task manager pops up, all of a sudden the website that I was trying to load, will finish loading. It is very annoying. The computer is only used for searching the internet, a little bit of internet banking, and a few books have been down loaded from amazon to a kindle.

Older model Inspiron 1545' using the 1397 WLAN card. Has been working fine, until perhaps the past two weeks. Now it frequently drops out, requiring manual disconnect and reconnect. Tonight Internet very slow on that laptop.
There are other devices using the same wifi (including this iPad used to post this), which connect to the wifi and Internet no issue. To me, its pointing to the laptop - either the WLAN card itself, or something in the laptop starting to fail (the laptop does have issues restarting - where it won't do that unless left for say 30 mins).
I'm suspecting a recent windows update or mcafee security update - no other software has been installed or updated.
I've tried changing antenna setting from auto to aux with no change to the above. Have checked for newer drivers - the laptop reports the version we have is the latest ( from 2009) - although they are the windows driver. Running windows 7, 64 bit - as supplied by dell when laptop was brand new. should I give up on the 1397 card and use another USB wifi adapter ?

My grandma has a Dell Inspiron 1520 running Win XP and has a Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n W LAN Mini-Card. The other day I reformatted her computer for her to clean things up and since then I have been unable to connect to the internet. Her computer will recognize the wireless network and connect to it but after a few minutes of trying to authenticate network address it will pop up a little window that says "limited or no connectivity." I've read countless forums on the internet using my computer and have come to the realization that it's an invalid ip address. In one post I read someone provided an ip address, subnet mask, default gateway, and a preferred DNS server code that I typed in which then showed that I was connected with wifi but still says authenticating on the WLAN card.

I am using a Windows 7 64-bit machine to connect to the internet. I'm using a Netgear WNR834M Wireless Router. With the hard line to the modem, speedtest.net gives me around 22 Mbps. With the hard line through the wireless router, I also get the same. Wirelessly, I get around 0.5, but my girlfriend's Win XP computer is getting around 19-21.why there's a huge slowdown in wireless connectivity with my machine?

Internet VERY choppy on one computer, has happened on more than one network, both wireless and wired. I've even reinstalled Windows 7 on the machine from scratch the problem is still there. The internet goes VERY slow like 10 minutes a page sort of slow. Almost feels like its being choked but from what i can see theres no programs taking bandwidth etc.I've searched all over the net and can't find anything. I can give any information needed. The machine is currently on wireless but the wireless signal is great as i use other device on it in the same area and there perfect.

It should be known that this is not MY specific issue, it's a friend's issue... but I am posting it for him as I know nothing about networking. Don't worry though, anything you post here I will relay for him to do.Is this a wired or wireless connection issue?
Wireless
How to run and post an ipconfig /all output of the computer(s) in question for review. Here it is:

So here's the deal, my friend has horrible down speed, usually less than 1MB/s according to Speedtest.net, sometimes it hits 2MB/s. However, his brother's in the house have at least 17MB/s, which I can assume is their actual speed that my friend should have... however, he specifically does not.He had a very old wireless card that was installed on his motherboard (desktop PC) that I assumed was the issue upon him first telling me, and from the issues I was personally able to see. For example, he'd constantly disconnect... his internet would just die for him specifically, and then come back. His brother's never lost internet when he did.
After that, I figured his very old wireless card that was installed was just kicking the bucket, so I instructed him to replace it. He went out and bought a new wireless USB adapter, and then uninstalled the network card.Even after all of this, his internet is still poor in terms of down speed. HOWEVER, rather than his internet dying for a few minutes at a time every so often, his internet "stays connected" if that makes sense? For example, we'll be on Skype in a conference call, and his internet will be loading pages very slowly, and Skype will constantly show that it's going from "green - online" to "gray circle - connecting". During this, he's still in Skype, but it's very poor quality from him speaking, and laggy as well.

I bought this computer thinking it was wireless. It says it has Wireless-N capability. I can find no wireless in my network connections. I have a Netgear router and all my laptop, NOOK and cell phone have no problem connecting to this router. When I search in connections the only thing I see is a broadband connector, no "wired" showing in network. How do I fix this so I can use my desktop as wireless?

1 newer build computer connected to D-link 655 via Cat6.1 laptop computer connected to same D-link 655 via Wireless N minicard. (Intel) (130Mbps connected) Router on a 10 foot shelf, always have full bar in wireless strength on 2nd computer.
Both computers can upload and download as expected from the internet. Transfers between the two computers though are slow. Both computers are loaded with Windows 7. Transferring files to or from the laptop transfers at 1.5MB/sec to 2 MB/sec.

I have been experiencing quite a bit of wireless problems with my Inspiron 17R SE. Only about half the time can I connect to my router and even then it only stays connected for a couple hours. It seems intermittent and the problem will go away for a week or so, but right now it is back in full force. Typically it will either connect and say that there is limited connectivity or it won't connect at all. Resetting the adapter via the Windows 7 troubleshooter only fixes it about half the time.
The thing is that the wireless and everything else works just fine on my Ubuntu partition, which makes me think that my driver is a bit wonky. I have tried downloading the one directly from Dell, and that has come to no avail. I have even tried using the Dell software support suite, and that hasn't found anything wrong either.
