I just came upon an old inspiron 6400 and i'm trying to get the wireless internet on it.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 running Windows Vista with a Broadcom 440x10/100 Integrated Controller. I've had the computer for 5 years, and have always connected to the internet using wireless with no problem. Just moved to a new place, don't have a router yet, and now when I try to connect via the ethernet cable my internet is sooo slow, taking about a minute to load a page. My roommate's computer runs great using the ethernet.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy laptop won't find an ip address and connect to the Internet right now I'm using my iPod. I know the Internet is working. I have a Dell inspiron 6400. Two days ago I had an Internet connection but I had to switch it so it would automatically find an ip address. I cAn get a connection at my moms house and it works just fine but any where else it can't find an ip adress. I've gone to start>run>cmd>ipconfic then I go type in that ip and it connects but won't let me connect on a browser or messenger.
My laptop won't find an ip address. I'm only 14 and I've tried everything I could think of. Two days ago it would connect to the Internet but wouldn't connect on a browser or messenger so I hadda change the tcp/ip to automatic then it worked but now with different wireless Internet it can't find an ip address
I am running a rather old Dell Inspiron 6400 on Vista. Recently Virgin installed their latest Hub / wireless router for me and since then i cannot make a wireless connection to the internet. Before that I use to be able to connect to my old router (Linksys Wireless-G 2.4Ghz) no problem! I can connect via the ethernet cable no problems. The WiFi is on and even when I disconnect the ethernet cable, the bottom right hand corner symbol says that I am connected but I cannot load the internet and keeps giving me this message:"The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded."The Virgin Media support team ran a check and told me that my wirless adaptor is out of date and needs updating so I went on Dell Support, downloaded and installed the follwoing drivers but still no joy!

3)Dell Driver Wireless 1390 WLAN Minicard
I have also ran a wireless WLAN utility diagnostic check through the control panel. In the Connection diagnostics, the Gateway IP Ping 'failed' and I think as result of that the Internet IP Ping, DNS IP ping and internet website domain name ping all 'skipped' but all else passed.
i just reinstalled windows on my laptop and i figured i could just download drivers from the dell website. after following the installation order specified on the website.. installing first the NSS and then the chipset, etc.. I realized there wasn't a driver for the NIC on the website. i also noticed that the steps didn't include a step for ethernet drivers, so i replaced the NIC step with installing the broadcom integrated controller. unfortunately, after completing the rest of the installation steps, my Network Controller driver is still not installed (looking in the device manager), a hardwire connection through the ethernet cable gives me "limited or no connectivity" and there is no wireless capability whatsoever.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop running and with a Dell 1390 WLAN mini-card installed and a Broadcom 44/10x100 integrated controller.
Unfortunately I've never been able to get this laptop to function with my wireless Internet.
Everything's working out nicely, and the computer connects to the network smoothly. After 5-10 minutes of full and unproblematic Internet connection the computer crashes the wireless network i.e. the Inspiron and all other computeres connected to the network is disconnected and my wireless network no longer shows up on the list of available networks.
The network works perfectly with every other computer I've used with it.
I've installed the newest drivers for both the 1390 and the integrated controller from this site. And my Vista is of course also fully up to date.
I've also tried turning the antennae settings to "aux" - Alas, to no avail.
My Inspiron 6400 network card keeps disconnecting from my wireless network. In order to get it working again, I have to turn off the wireless fn key and turn it back on again. This usually works for a few minutes than I lose connection again. Is there anything I can do to correct this?

I had to do a clean install of the laptop. Until then good connection no problems BUT since the clean install I am experinecing intermitant problems Wifi connecting to the router. The wireless finds the router without fail but won't always connect. When is doesn't, a reboot makes no difference but power cycling the router always works. After hours of strong connectivity the connection drops out unpredicatbly.
I have tried updateing the driver for the wifi NIC and the Proset software direct from intel which seems to make no difference.
I recently purchased dell laptops inspiron 14r.When i press the "A" key for activation of wireless network, it does not work. As my mouse and headset not function.

I bought this computer thinking it was wireless. It says it has Wireless-N capability. I can find no wireless in my network connections. I have a Netgear router and all my laptop, NOOK and cell phone have no problem connecting to this router. When I search in connections the only thing I see is a broadband connector, no "wired" showing in network.How do I fix this so I can use my desktop as wireless?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been experiencing quite a bit of wireless problems with my Inspiron 17R SE. Only about half the time can I connect to my router and even then it only stays connected for a couple hours. It seems intermittent and the problem will go away for a week or so, but right now it is back in full force. Typically it will either connect and say that there is limited connectivity or it won't connect at all. Resetting the adapter via the Windows 7 troubleshooter only fixes it about half the time.
The thing is that the wireless and everything else works just fine on my Ubuntu partition, which makes me think that my driver is a bit wonky. I have tried downloading the one directly from Dell, and that has come to no avail. I have even tried using the Dell software support suite, and that hasn't found anything wrong either.

It takes long times to load and routinely drops or stutters in its connection, which makes online gameplay very inefficient if not impossible. Prior to this, it was running fine.My wife's netbook and my work laptop both run normally and fine off the connection. The ping rates for those computer, tested at the exact same time as my desktop, are both good while my desktop's ping and jitter are horrible. So I have the feeling it is not really a networking issue, but more something with the wireless card or another issue with my desktop itself. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 531, probably about 3 years old, which as I mentioned ran fine with the wireless before. I am running Vista. I have had problems with this laptop ever since i recieved it, i have an old laptop with a worse card which picks up my signal perfectly fine and the speed and signal stays constant. Every time I try I get an error the the network adapter isn't found. The trouble shooter can't even fix it. Everyone else in the house has no issues connecting with a wireless connection.The wireless connection has worked maybe twice for me since I purchased the laptop (May 2012). First I started the WLAN AutoConfig service under services.msc. After starting/enabling this service - nothing.
I searched the forum and found a post for Quickset. I followed the instructions given and restarted. When I press Fn+F2 the screen flashes the wifi symbol and my wifi LED comes on. My wife has a Dell Inspiron 1300 which crashed. I was able to start it again using the Dell Operating System Reinstallation CD for XP Professional but the wifi (wireless) does not work. Before the crash it had a working wireless connection. It appears that I need to reinstall a driver for it. How can I get a driver when I have no internet connection on that computer? I've been trying to connect to the wireless network at my college, but the instructions they give say to go to network connections and start by clicking the "wireless connection" icon. There is no such icon. I've tried all sorts of different drivers from dell for this model and none of them seem to do the trick. I know i have a wireless card becuase I've opened a little panel on hte bottom of the computer and seen it myself.
