I can't get the connection to work between my laptop (Windows 7) and my Xbox360. I am on a college-based connection as I am away at school. I can't find the router IP or how to even go about finding it. What I've tried:
- Bridge-ing the connections, no success.
- Upgrading the drivers on the ethernet side, no success.
- Enabling "Internet Connections with ICS", no success.

I have 3 computers in my home network: the main computer, a laptop, and an old computer used for streaming vids and pix to the TV. I recently upgrading the main computer from XP to Win7, as well as upgraded the TV computer from Win98 to XP. The laptop and main computer are fine. The problem arises when I try to access files from either the laptop or main computer from the TV computer.I've also read something about that the user name and password has to be the same on all the computers on the network, but that doesn't really make sense. The laptop and main computer don't have the same user name and they work fine. Besides, before I disabled password file sharing, I entered the proper name and password for the main computer and it still wouldn't let me connect.

I'm running a desktop pc with Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit, connected to the network via ethernet, and a laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit connected to the network via ethernet and wireless. The homegroup name is the same on both machines.
When I go to network places on either computer, the other is not visible. I tried pinging the desktop's IP address from the laptop, and the request timed out. I tried pinging from the desktop to the laptop, and it timed out.

I have in a workgroup a Windows 7 Ultimate X64 laptop and a Windows XP Pro SP3 desktop PC. If i try to share a partition from W7 i can see it over network in XP but i can't access the files or folders from it, the error being this one: "\ComputerNamePartitionName is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if yout have access permissions. Access is denied." In W7 i've set Everybody with full access (read and write); both computers have Windows Firewall and BitDefender Internet Security installed on them but doesn't seems to be important since i've tried to use the shared partition from W7 with Firewalls and BitDefenders On and Off and the problem was the same!

new laptop running windows 7 home premium? i connect to the internet using mobile broadband device which works fine but i have been trying for a week now to share that connect with my local area network connection to access my ps3 (as i did with xp) to no success. 1st the LAN states that is is an "unidentified network: so when i tried to set up internet connection sharing, it would say that the wimax network adapter was "shared" but there would be no internet or network access though LAN. now i cannot even start ics as i am getting an error message that states "an error occurred while Internet Connection Settings was being enabled (null)..

I booted into Windows 7 today after not using it for a while, and I saw "some network drives were unavailable" in the corner of my screen. I disconnected the drives, and used map network drive to add a new one. It sees the server, but when I get to "Enter Network Password" every username/password combination results in "Logon failure: Unknown user name or bad password." There are only 2 user names and passwords that are used on my various computers in the house, and no combination of them worked. What's really strange is that the mac server is set for everyone to have read and write privileges.

I have a new Windows 7 laptop that is replacing an older XP machine that has successfully operated for a number of years with internet connection sharing from an XP desktop host computer. I am unable to set up the new machine to access the internet. The SysInfo data for the new computer is:
Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, 32 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2328M CPU @ 2.20GHz, x64 Family 6 Model 42
[Code].....
The client has its IP address set automatically by the HOMENET wireless router, along with a manually set gateway address to route internet signals through the host computer rather through the router. I am new to Windows 7 and have not been able to set up the client to see or share files between the host and client when connected by wireless. When connected by a LAN connection to the router, I can see both computers and share files between them, but have not been able to connect to the internet. The Win 7 machine can connect directly to RESNET and access the internet that way but the incoming signal averages about 45% which is far below the level needed for acceptable use.

I have a Toshiba Win 7 laptop and a custom-built (JNCS) XP desktop. Both access the Internet thru a D-Link router. I would like to be able to access the working files on each computer from the other. I have changed the workgroup name on my Win 7 laptop to the same name as the workgroup on my XP desktop. I have gone thru the instructions Microsoft gives you, but they are FAR from clear because things don't happen or choices are not available that they reference.

When I looked up "setup home wifi network windows 7" I had no idea what I was reading after I got as far as setting up an ad hoc connection on my windows 7 laptop.I need to take beyond what I've done to get this going? I basically want to have my router set up to not only provide my devices (so far my laptop and my phone) with internet but a means of sharing files.

I've got an office network that I would like to add a NAS drive to in a Windows 7 environment.
However, I want to make sure the NAS is both encrypted and password protected on the network to make sure someone doesn't just walk off with our company data (by taking the whole NAS with un-encryped info) or logging on through our network.
What would be your recommendation for a NAS setup that would offer total data encryption, great security from non-authorized people on the network, and 100% Windows 7 compatibility?

I have plugged the cable from router to switch, and connected both PC's to switch and now I have internet on both PC's.My question is, can I "control" or share files on windows xp with Windows 7 (main computer) and in same time have access to internet? Or to use windows 7 to connect to internet?

I have a Windows 7 PC and a Windows XP PC that I’m sharing files on. All was well for a while, but I’ve started to lose connectivity between computers when one goes into sleep mode. Not sure at this point if it’s the XP machine or the Windows 7 Machine that’s causing the problem.

I've been running WHSV1 for at least 3 years now without any problems. Upgraded my client to Windows 7 and stream movies etc.. no issues at all. I gave "guest" account enabled with full access on the WHS server machine and just mapped theshares on my laptop..Anyway, I did some updates on my windows7 laptop and now the computer can no longer see the "server" machine."Server" appears in "other devices" in windows explorer but I can't do anything with it. Just takes me to a page server.com by godaddy. Also, I can no longer use RDP from within my own network! Says the SERVER machine does not exist.I can log in to the server just fine using logmein.
Also, made sure the windows machine has the network that it joined set to "home." I've had a similar problem years ago when I used to use zone alarm but I don't know how to fix it now. It's as if a firewall is blocking it or something.
