New Router - Setup went easy. Create a folder named Media - copy a few formats in only 6 files all less than 2gb in size, 2 x avi (divx/xvid), mp3, mkv, mp4 and flv. All excited I scoot over to the PS 3 - righto we can do this!! Only to see no titles found. Great stuff Go to router - media server - scan - database updated - awesome let's try again! No titles found. Ok?!? Reboot router - reboot ps3. Still frowning - no titles found?

Basically the problem is that the HD media steamed through the E4200 router has a significant lag on the TV. So details..I have the Linksys E4200 wifi router and want to stream the HD video from my computer to TV.The connection schema is pretty straightforward:Computer with 10/100 mbit network adapter-----(network cable)-->E4200----(WIFI)----->TV with 802.11n WIFI adapter. Also 10(ten) mbit Internet connection cable is plugged into WIFI router. The questions are:
1) Can the 10 mbit internet connection affect the speed of the media content being streamed through the E4200 router?
2) Does it make sense to buy the WIFI 802.11 n adapter and use it instead of the network adapter / cable in the connection schema mentioned above?
3) What can be other possible reasons of the lag?

I am very pleased with my purchase of the E3000 so far. However, one function seems to allude me. One of the main reasons for purchasing this router was because of its Media Server functionality. I wanted to be able to stream to my UPnP devices (ps3, xbox360, etc) without having to keep my power hog of a PC running. I have set up the HD using the Storage tab of the Advanced Router Settings, and created several Shares on the Media Server tab. The good news is that I am able to access the share on my PS3. The bad news is that I can't on my Xbox360s. As the Xbox360s has built in wireless N, I would really like to be able to stream to that system.

I upgraded my E3000 to a new E4200 several months ago. I use an SSL VPN to connect to work which worked fine on 1.0.01 and 1.0.02 but I upgraded to 1.0.03 to fix an issue where the router constantly reboots when I stream Netflix or Hulu and now the router reboots with Netflix, Hulu AND the SSL VPN tunnel initiation.

All I'm trying to do is play music files stored on my PC upstairs with my Dune Media Player downstairs which is part of my home cinema system. The Dune player is hardwired ethernet via Homeplugs and can "see" my PC and media library and the folders in there, but everything shows up as empty - photos/music etc. The Dune will "see" a netbook we have via wireless and displays the contents no problem. Netbook is running XP Home and the PC Win 7 64bit.Initially, all worked in that the Dune player saw the Win 7 PC and libraries. I could do a slide show of photos and see the music files but couldn't play them - unsupported Codec. All my music on the PC is lossless and in WMA Lossless format to make things easier when using WMP12. However, nothing really supports this format and most devices prefer FLAC/ non Microsoft - and here's the collision. WMP12 doesn't like FLAC - even with plug ins I've tried, it's hard work.Decided to dump WMP12, clear libraries and wipe it's database. Installed Mediamonkey version 4 instead as this will do all I want - apart from maybe photos. Have transferred some FLAC albums over to Music Library and Mediamonkey gets all artwork etc and plays them. Have enabled Mediamonkey to act as a UPNP server and it's running. However, the Dune Media player still sees empty folders in the PC Libraries - music and photos. All the folder are shown such as All Music, Albums, Artists etc, but there's nothing in them. When clearing WMP12 library and database, I stopped Windows Media Player Sharing Service in services.msc.I have restarted this in case it makes a difference. No change.
why can't the Dune Player (or Roberts Internet DAB radio we have) see what's in the library folder when using Mediamonkey. It's the same using WMP12 with FLAC files. It did see everything when WMP12 was fully loaded and set with WMA Lossless - but the codec isn't really supported by anything other thanm Microsoft.

Here's the key background info:
I've got an Asus RT-N56U router. Attached to the router is a USB hard disk with a bunch of music on it. The music is accessible to devices on my LAN over uPnP/DLNA; this works great. My WAN connection is provisioned at 100 Mbps down / 40 Mbps up. I want to use some of that upstream bandwidth to stream my music to myself wherever I happen to be. I could but don't want to leave a server running on my network 24/7 to accomplish this when the router is already able to share the content locally.
So what I want is some way to make the content that the router is already able to distribute across the LAN accessible over the Internet as well. I've looked around but haven't found any prebuilt solutions to this that don't involve hosting the content on a server behind the router, which I'd like to avoid.
The router does have built-in support for serving up the content over FTP, but I've tried that and found that it really does not play well with media players. It kind of works, but the seek time when switching between tracks is absurd, and some tracks just plain fail.
One thought I've had is serving up the content over HTTP by installing an Apache instance on the router (and/or editing the configuration of the built-in instance that provides the configuration portal, if that's possible?). The router appears to run some trimmed-down version of Linux (I can telnet/ssh into it, it has a filesystem, package manager, and similar things).

I've enabled the Media Server on my E3000 router. My PS3 can see the server and play media from it by my PCs can't!
I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player? compatible media player for Windows 7?
I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.

Just got a new HD Smart TV and trying to stream Netflix and Youtube. Netflix works decent most of the time, buffering occasionally but Youtube buffers all the time and is not watchable. Using a Netgear WGT624 b/g router located some 60 feet away a half floor upstairs. Internet downstream speed is about 5.5 Mbps on the hard wired main computer and laptops show the same speed when connected wirelessly. Wireless Network Connection Status on a laptop close to the TV show "Very Good to Good" signal strength and Speed at 11 Mbps. Why is the Yotube connection so poor on the TV? The Netflix could be better too. Laptop by the TV streams Neflix and Yotube fine but of course that is not HD. Do I need an upgraded router or powerline network adapter?

I have replaced Our Linksys WRT54GL with C1142 (W7 - Autonomous). While I was on the Linksys, i used to stream HD (720P) files over wifi from central servers to iPad's. But since i've moved to C1142 the video is very laggy and slow. When I moved the iPad back to the G network on the WRT54GL it was running good again. If i check on PC over wifi, its good. I use iPad's to stream often and i can't figure what do to played alittle with MTU without success. Also taught maybe the WPA2-AES is to heavy or something, changed to Open without encryption or key and still the same Aironet Extension disabled as well

Is there anyway to convert a laptop (with inbuilt wireless device) to a streaming device via wireless connectivity?Essentially I have a desktop and also a laptop in the house. I sometimes want to use my desktop in other places in the house, since my laptop is seriously old, I have most of my work data on my desktop. SO, I thought the idea of being able to use my laptop as a streaming device, acting as a wireless monitor, keyboard and keypad.

I have a wireless network in my home, mainly for internet access via any of the 3 or 4 machines we may be using. Normally, there's not a problem with normal surfing, email checking, youtube, etc.My wireless router is a Linksys WRT300N, and the wireless adapter card in my desktop is a D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter. In my previous home, the router was in the very same room as my desktop, and had no problems to speak of with this setup streaming Netflix. Now, however, I'm set up in an older home, and the router is removed from my desktop by a few walls and tight rooms. I've noticed that my network status icon on the bottom right of my desktop seems to always show "Signal Strength: Very Low".I like to use my desktop sometimes to stream Netflix. My Netflix streaming sometimes goes OK, but typically it just freezes and shows the Loading bar, and sometimes doesn't really start back. It is so bad sometimes, that I am not willing to wait it out, because I know from this experience that even if it starts back up, it will just freeze again. The video is not downloading and caching fast enough.

I have an ongoing problem with my WRVS4400N router. It reboots on it's own when streaming video through a wireless connection (computer, xbox, roku, tv). Once I make a wired conection, it performs flawlessly. The firmware is up to date. I have read some reviews of this router on Amazon stating the same problem, but I expected it to be solved with firmware update. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

My computer is a HP Laptop Model Number DV2815EA running windows vista 32 bit. Its a few years old. Recently i have had problems with my wireless adapter turning itself off whenever i watch videos online. It doesn't happen all the time, but if i am watching something for more than an hour it will cut off. There is a blue light and a switch on the front of the laptop, and when the wireless adapter is off, the light changes to red.
The light will change to red sometimes whilst watching video, and the only way i can turn the wireless back on is if i restart the system. Even if i activate and disable the wireless adapter using the external manual switch, or the internal controls using the wireless assistant. Also, not sure if this is relevant but i can no longer either watch videos on full screen as the image gets jolty.
Things i have tried:
1) restoring the system to a previous restore point - i tried this but for some reason the only restore points i could find were ones dated after i started noticing the problem.
2) reinstalling the wireless adapter driver and video card driver.
3) running a full 6 hour antivirus scan - I am using Eset NOD32 antivirus and also i scanned using comodo cleaning essentials.

I have iplayer on two other computers running through the same router and they work fine.Every thing worked fine with my old E1000 so I'm taking it that it must be a setting in the router itself somewhere that needs to be altered to allow it to work.

Been noticing this lately, thought a few times it was just random internet drops outs, but completely crushing bandwidth when streaming is normal for this router.
Its completely obvious when playing a game on xbox live or playing wow or diablo 3 on the pc, when streaming from youtube in 720p or higher the bandwidth is completely crushed. I downloaded a game yesterday also through games for windows marketplace on the pc yesterday and my brother couldn't play diablo 3 while I was downloading. I tried media prioritization and that doesn't fix the problem.
Interestingly enough I still own an E4200 so I hooked that router back up just to see how that handled things. I set my extension on chrome to always play youtube videos at 1080p if availible, and there was no lag or bandwidth crush. I logged onto xbox live while my brother was playing diablo 3 and downloaded a video trailer of a game and no bandwidth crush. Hmm I thought.... So I tried the EA6500 again and the bandwidth crush comes back and my brother can no longer play online games while Im streaming.
At this point Im just gonna suck it up and start using the E4200 again until EA6500 gets a good software update and can perform standard tasks. I have a 20mb download and a 2mb upload should this be happening with a router this expensive?

I got an Apple TV a few weeks back and we've been using it a lot, especially to stream Netflix. However, another application that I got it for was for streaming iPhoto slideshows and iMovie stuff to the Apple TV with Airplay's screen sharing. This event scenario has played out several times..... Screen sharing is up and going and it'll be working great. All of a sudden the TV will go back to the main Apple TV menu on its own. Upon further review at this point, NONE of my WiFi (iPhone, iPad, etc.) devices will connect to the network and I have to power cycle the router. Router lights are on, but no one's home. At this point, it'll boot back up and then everything will be fine, at least for a while.Tonight, I was showing vacation pictures to some family and this same process happened twice. Since I can't seem to figure out how to stop playing a slideshow in iPhoto and then start it again in the middle, it's very annoying. Here are some relevant troubleshooting points to consider:
1. This network problem (or something similar to it) has happened in the past, but whatever it is, streaming a slideshow really seems to aggravate it. This seems to be the only scenario that I can do to actually INDUCE the issue. Periods of long uploads or downloads are fine. Streaming audio from one device and similar usage seems to be fine, but this scenario fails pretty much every time, and not necessarily right away.
2. After having this issue tonight multiple times, I stopped trying to stream an actual iPhoto slideshow and just went into the album and scrolled through the pics one by one. I did this for at least an hour with no issue. But with an actual slideshow, it failed twice in 30 minutes or less. And it's happened before tonight as well.
3. It doesn't appear to make a difference what application I'm streaming from on the Mac. Whether it's iPhoto, iMovie, or even Facetime.
-MacBook Pro Specs - OS X 10.8.2 - Late 2011 Model
-Apple TV - MD199LL/A, v5.0.2
-Router - Linksys/Cisci E1000 - Firmware v2.1.02
I've got a fair amount of devices in my home that use WiFi, but there was nothing irregular going on in the house to generate an excessive amount of internal network traffic or anything like that. My gut says the problem is with the router, but it's only a few months old, and I've updated the firmware to no avail.

Everything is set up in the router software. The tuner detects the USB drive as a UPnP device, shows the directories I've set up for media share. If I select an AAC or FLAC file to play, the tuner loads it and plays. If I select an MP3 file, it loads, shows it as 100% buffered -- and hangs. Every time. The other devices on the router's network (wired desktop, wireless laptop, wireless tablet) can load and play the MP3s along with the other file types from the same USB-connected drive. That's why I figure the router isn't causing the problem.
