View 3 Replies View RelatedAll I'm trying to do is play music files stored on my PC upstairs with my Dune Media Player downstairs which is part of my home cinema system. The Dune player is hardwired ethernet via Homeplugs and can "see" my PC and media library and the folders in there, but everything shows up as empty - photos/music etc. The Dune will "see" a netbook we have via wireless and displays the contents no problem. Netbook is running XP Home and the PC Win 7 64bit.Initially, all worked in that the Dune player saw the Win 7 PC and libraries. I could do a slide show of photos and see the music files but couldn't play them - unsupported Codec. All my music on the PC is lossless and in WMA Lossless format to make things easier when using WMP12. However, nothing really supports this format and most devices prefer FLAC/ non Microsoft - and here's the collision. WMP12 doesn't like FLAC - even with plug ins I've tried, it's hard work.Decided to dump WMP12, clear libraries and wipe it's database. Installed Mediamonkey version 4 instead as this will do all I want - apart from maybe photos. Have transferred some FLAC albums over to Music Library and Mediamonkey gets all artwork etc and plays them. Have enabled Mediamonkey to act as a UPNP server and it's running. However, the Dune Media player still sees empty folders in the PC Libraries - music and photos. All the folder are shown such as All Music, Albums, Artists etc, but there's nothing in them. When clearing WMP12 library and database, I stopped Windows Media Player Sharing Service in services.msc.I have restarted this in case it makes a difference. No change.
why can't the Dune Player (or Roberts Internet DAB radio we have) see what's in the library folder when using Mediamonkey. It's the same using WMP12 with FLAC files. It did see everything when WMP12 was fully loaded and set with WMA Lossless - but the codec isn't really supported by anything other thanm Microsoft.
I'm currently looking for a fast, non-wireless router. My current router is cutting down on my download speeds(Yes, I have forwarded ports, disabled firewalls etc.)Musts: Gigabit ethernet, preferably no wireless, relatively cheap I can disable the built-in firewall completelyIt will mainly be used for surfing, downloading and streaming of high quality movies.

I've got an Asus RT-N56U router. Attached to the router is a USB hard disk with a bunch of music on it. The music is accessible to devices on my LAN over uPnP/DLNA; this works great. My WAN connection is provisioned at 100 Mbps down / 40 Mbps up. I want to use some of that upstream bandwidth to stream my music to myself wherever I happen to be. I could but don't want to leave a server running on my network 24/7 to accomplish this when the router is already able to share the content locally.
So what I want is some way to make the content that the router is already able to distribute across the LAN accessible over the Internet as well. I've looked around but haven't found any prebuilt solutions to this that don't involve hosting the content on a server behind the router, which I'd like to avoid.
The router does have built-in support for serving up the content over FTP, but I've tried that and found that it really does not play well with media players. It kind of works, but the seek time when switching between tracks is absurd, and some tracks just plain fail.
One thought I've had is serving up the content over HTTP by installing an Apache instance on the router (and/or editing the configuration of the built-in instance that provides the configuration portal, if that's possible?). The router appears to run some trimmed-down version of Linux (I can telnet/ssh into it, it has a filesystem, package manager, and similar things).
I have a Sony SMP-N100 streaming media player that I'd like to attach my old Buffalo Gigabit Linkstation (HD-HG400LAN) NAS via the USB ports that are available on each device. They each have USB A female ports, so I need a USB cable with A-male connectors on each end, right?Should it work?
View 1 Replies View RelatedNew Router - Setup went easy. Create a folder named Media - copy a few formats in only 6 files all less than 2gb in size, 2 x avi (divx/xvid), mp3, mkv, mp4 and flv. All excited I scoot over to the PS 3 - righto we can do this!! Only to see no titles found. Great stuff Go to router - media server - scan - database updated - awesome let's try again! No titles found. Ok?!? Reboot router - reboot ps3. Still frowning - no titles found?

Basically the problem is that the HD media steamed through the E4200 router has a significant lag on the TV. So details..I have the Linksys E4200 wifi router and want to stream the HD video from my computer to TV.The connection schema is pretty straightforward:Computer with 10/100 mbit network adapter-----(network cable)-->E4200----(WIFI)----->TV with 802.11n WIFI adapter. Also 10(ten) mbit Internet connection cable is plugged into WIFI router. The questions are:
1) Can the 10 mbit internet connection affect the speed of the media content being streamed through the E4200 router?
2) Does it make sense to buy the WIFI 802.11 n adapter and use it instead of the network adapter / cable in the connection schema mentioned above?
3) What can be other possible reasons of the lag?
I am very pleased with my purchase of the E3000 so far. However, one function seems to allude me. One of the main reasons for purchasing this router was because of its Media Server functionality. I wanted to be able to stream to my UPnP devices (ps3, xbox360, etc) without having to keep my power hog of a PC running. I have set up the HD using the Storage tab of the Advanced Router Settings, and created several Shares on the Media Server tab. The good news is that I am able to access the share on my PS3. The bad news is that I can't on my Xbox360s. As the Xbox360s has built in wireless N, I would really like to be able to stream to that system.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've enabled the Media Server on my E3000 router. My PS3 can see the server and play media from it by my PCs can't!
I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player? compatible media player for Windows 7?
I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Buffalo LS-XLBB2 Linkstation NAS streaming wirelessly to a Sony SMP-N200 media player. For some reason, whenever I add or edit a file on the NAS via my PC the file list is not updating on the media player.I have the database set to refresh at 20 minute intervals, but some files and folders never show up and some do after a few days. There are no problems with file type as I can play them back fine when I connect a USB drive to the media player, it just seems like the media player isn't getting a copy of the new database. When I manually refresh the database, it makes matters worse. All of the files disappear on the media player list, except for one folder (the same folder every time). The original file list comes back again if I restart the NAS and media player, but the new files are still not listed. I can access the new files on the NAS fine with my PC or laptop, so the files are there, the media player just isn't updating the file list.
Things I've tried:
- Checking that both the NAS and media player firmware is up to date
- Retarting both units
- Resetting both units to default
- Trying different files types (the first file has never shown up, the second file showed up in the list 5 days later)
- Changing the database refresh intervals on the NAS
- Manually refreshing/initialising the NAS database
The main advice on other forums seems to be to set up a media server on the PC and stream though that, but the whole idea of getting the NAS was so that I could watch videos on my TV without having to have the PC on all the time.
I purchased the EA6500 a few days ago, and when I'm connected to Cisco Connect Cloud I am unable to select Folder Access / FTP Server / Media Server. I click them and nothing happens. Also, the Cisco light on the router keeps blinking.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor some reason today my desktop stopped being able to share media with other computers and devices.I mainly use PS3 Media Server to stream and download content to multiple devices including my PS3, Xbox 360, iPad, and iPhone. Now none of those devices can see the server. I tried restarting it, restarting my computer, and updating to the latest version.I've also tried turning on other media servers like TVersity and Windows Media Player and none of my devices can detect any of those either, so there must be something wrong with my desktop's networking (but it can still get internet). I haven't made any changes to my home network since yesterday (the last time I used my media server). My desktop runs on a wireless network with a Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter, my router is a Netgear WGT624v4, and my cable modem is a Toshiba. I'm using Windows Vista 32bit.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using the e4200 for about a week. So far, so good! However, a primary reason I purch it was the ability to share via USB across my network (Files and such). Read the approved USB drives that r compatible and although my specfic drive was not listed (WD, my Passport) I connected it to the e4200 and set a folder called "movies"to share. In this folder I have both bluray rips (25-32GB) and standard rips (5gb or less). Regardless of source, the content was not playable. It buffered like crazy. So, is it as simple as using an approved USB drive and I will be able to share appropriately?
The same folder plays great when connected directly to one of my media streamers USB drive, so don't think the drive/source is bad.
Actually i need a streaming server that supports both audio(mp3) and video formats(mp4,avi..).But it should work in multicast and should possible to stream with VLC media player.now i'm trying helix media server. In this what are the procedures to configure helix sever in multicast.and how to stream media from it.Or Any other streaming server is there that suits for my need.

View 5 Replies View RelatedGot my E4200 a month ago, and have since been experiencing problems with movie streaming between my server and my Popcorn Hour A110. All kinds of movies stutters randomly and becomes unwatchable. Streaming of the same movie from my server to my laptop (connected wirelessly) causes no stuttering.
I have been doing some troubleshooting and determined that it is not the server's fault (it achieves transfer speeds of 60+ MB/s through Samba). I have also ruled out the possibility that the Popcorn Hour is the faulty component.
Lastly, I just tried switching from the E4200 to my old D-Link DIR-655. This has effectively removed the stuttering, leading me to conclude that it is the E4200's fault.
I have latest 3.3 dlink d-view cam software and a dcs-932l ip camera.I noticed the remote streaming and remote recorded viewing (ports 5150 and 5160) as part of the server software.
