1. Apple extreme router. Newest model. Full updates.
2. HP media smart server 495 running WHS 2011. Upgraded memory. Very stable and full updates.
3. Typical Win7 gaming machine from last year. It was about $1200 at the time, no issues.
4. Cat5e cabling.
5. A gigabit switch, but both the win7 and server are connected to the router.
I'm only asking about WIRED issues. When I'm copying files from my computer to server using teracopy I'm only getting about 10-11 Mb. Consistently.
I had made a thread earlier about getting a new synology server but could I have a more fundamental issue? Reason I'm asking, I copied a file from my wireless laptop to my server and it was almost 1/2 the time for the same file from win7 to server. I'd love to get the synology but kinda hard to justify $1000+ when things seem to be stable.
I have an issue with my N750 Wireless router, F9K1103. I have a Windows Home Server, HP Media Smart Server – EX470, that at times causes the router to lose connection, with the front panel light going from Blue (connected) to Orange (disconnected). When I pull the net cable from the server, after about 30 seconds the blue light comes back on.
I recently Installed AVG 2011 and AVG PC tune-up 2011. When i just start my computer the internet is working fine, but after a open my game Flyff, The internet is still connected but cannot use it.
I've enabled the Media Server on my E3000 router. My PS3 can see the server and play media from it by my PCs can't!
I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player? compatible media player for Windows 7?
I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.
I have had a heck of a time getting this server up and running and it looks like I finally have it, except for one thing. Everything works except for the vpn. I do not have the vpn portion on the router configured since the SBS server will be acting as the vpn host, but maybe I need to configure the vpn elements on this router for it to allow vpn connections in?The other thing that is "off" as the title of this post indicates is that the server is not showing up on the router's attached devices under the correct name. It's showing as some generic WIN-****** nameI am doing this project for a non-profit without compensation and the networking part of it has been a nightmare. So any solution that doesn't entail me reconfiguring the server. Everything else appears to be functioning properly, dhcp, dns, ingoing, outgoing mail and the web interface.

I just got the TL-WDR3600.
It seems to work fine and my Smart TV recognizes my network drive or usb hdd connected to the router.
However, the files on the network drive or usb hdd don't seem to appear/work. The folder the files are stored in are recognized, but not the files themselves.
I've plugged the usb HDD directly to the TV and it recognizes and plays the movie files fine, however when trying to find them via the wireless router, they don't appear/work.
Are there some settings i need to change to allow the TV to see/play the files?
It's exactly the same situation like was described in link below in... 2008 on different forum.PS3 doesn't see the NAS in Wi FI.
1. X3000 Annex A with latest firmware v1.0.01 build 002 Nov 22,2011
2. NAS Zyxel NSA310 with latest firmware 4.50(AFK.0)D0_20120405 running Twonky Media Server (TMS) Twonky 7.0.5 Special connected to X3000 via network cable.
3. Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) with latest firmware 4.11 connected to X3000 via WIFI.
When PS3 is connected via WIFI to X3000, TMS is not visible in PS3. When PS3 is connected via network cable to X3000, TMS is visible and working as hell. No static IP's, whole network based on DHCP. UPnP is ON.Problem mentioned on that different forum was solved by firmware update. Can I expect firmware update also here?
I purchased the EA6500 a few days ago, and when I'm connected to Cisco Connect Cloud I am unable to select Folder Access / FTP Server / Media Server. I click them and nothing happens. Also, the Cisco light on the router keeps blinking.
I have a pc that i have setup right now as my media server with tversity that is connected to my lan and uses my cable modem. the problem with that is that when im downloading torrents it eats up all the bandwith and the media server lags. i also have a separate dsl modem in my office that i used to need for work but is no longer being used. how would i go about connecting my media server pc to the dsl modem to use that connection just for it, and still have the pc hooked to my lan so i can access it with my xbox.
I have a micro-server at home running Server 2012 which is going to have a few virtual machines on hyper v.I also would like to use the server to watch films on which will be connected to by tv using a hdmi cable..I wanted to know is it ok to play films off server 2012 and watch them on the tv?

I run a media server to share two devices in my home (PS3, WDHD). I used to run these over a wireless connection. Now I run them over a wired connection and have encountered numerous problems by combining that wired connection with my new dlink dir-655 router. To begin with, my PS3 wasn't finding the media server unless I restarted the media server while the PS3 was on.Once I restarted the PS3 it could no longer find the media server again.I opened a TCP port on the windows firewall that was used by the media server app. The PS3 started finding the media server.
I just upgraded my dir-835 to the latest 1.03 firmware and it still not working.Plugged an ntfs firmated drive with films on it into the router and windows media player can see and stream from the router but xbox 360 is not detecting the media server !I tried with a dir 857 and xbox works fine but with the dir 853 no go
We live in a large ranch styled house. Conversely, we installed two broadband connection at opposite ends of the home. One cable and one DSL. Reason: Kids share DSL and Parents have the cable all to themselves. We are currently wanting to setup a media server where both networks would have access to a database of media files. It would be in the middle of the house and each network would connect to it wirelesslyI guess first off, is this possible
I am trying to set up to watch a live webcast and get the the following essage,"Windows Media Player cannot connect to the server. The server name might not be correct, the server might not be available, or your proxy settings might not be correct." I have tried to verify proxy server settings and it still gives me the message.
I have a wireless N router (DIR-655) in bridge mode connected to a TWC combo modem/wireless G router. I have Tversity media server running on a computer connected to the TWC, but my PS3 which is connected wirelessly to the TWC combo can't see Tversity. What am I missing? Do I need to forward some port from somewhere? FYI, I'm set-up this way so my N router can deliver full N speed, and my G devices connect to the slower TWC router. Everything sees the internet with no problem. Also, to note that devices connected to the D-link can see Tversity, but devices connected to the TWC cannot see Tversity

I just setup the Linksys EA4500 router on my computer and I am able to hook up to the internet on my computer and on my Logitech Revue. How do I access the media server? It is not showing up on the Logitech Revue or my Samsung TV
I have a Netgear DG470N gigabit modem and I am streaming 1080P films from a 2TB networked hard drive onto a LG 42inch Smart TV viat wired ethernet. Sometimes the films crash and the TV cannot reopen the network folder with the film in until a reset is done on the modem. Is there a high speed gigabit switch that I can use to improve this or should I get some media controlling software?

I have set up the router with a USB FAT32 Stick 8gb shared six folders with about 5gb of music inside the server only streams the first folder to the network and inside that folder all the MP3 files and another 2 sub folders but not others. Connecting E4200 media server (external hard drive connected to USB in router) to PS3.mapped External HD to media server folder. and enabled UPnP Media Server. after trying all options I can't see media server in PS3.
I have a WD USB with approx 70,000 songs on it. When I try and scan the Music, it gets approx halfway though the songs, then the Media Servers stops all communications. The only way I can get the Media Server to recover is to power cycle the E4200
I have 2 machines using Windows 7 and a Xbox 360. If I use the router for streaming media. Am I able to see the hard drive through the main computer it is hooked up to? Say if I dl something and want to put it on the external drive for media server. Can I save it to drive even though it is hooked up to the router? Overall. What does E4200 media server advantage have over something like windows media player to stream or windows media center?
How to get playists to work on the EA4500 Media Server? I have the Music folder share working with a Roku Soundbridge, so now would like to copy my iTunes playlists to this folder as well. I've tried creating a .m3u file in the Music folder but the Soundbridge doesn't recognize it. I put the following one line in this file, which just points to the file stored on the disk connected to the EA4500.
I am having difficulty getting my HP Officejet Pro 8500(A910) configured to save digital faxes to my Iomega 2TB Home Media Sever (cloud edition). My home network is setup through a Linksys E4200.I was able to successfully configure it to save to a folder on my PC, but I do not want to leave it running 24/7.I believe the breakdown is in the Authentication part of the setup... It asks for the Windows username and password, which works fine for the PC setup but not for anywhere else. Do I use the UN & PW for the home media server if I'm saving to one of its folders? If so, how do I correctly type the path? It is communicating with the folder and leaving an alphanumeric file saved inside the folder when I use the 'save and test' option, but it breaks down from there.
Region : UnitedStatesModel : TL-WDR4300Hardware Version : V1Firmware Version : ISP :Is there a way to disable the router DLNA media server? Media service is stopped in the config page. I've never used it so ideally it wouldn't appear in a PS3, Smart TV, etc.
My WRT610N media server is not serving up large, MKV files (>1GB). I have a 500 GB Maxtor connected with external power. The media server serves smaller files just fine (although they are not MKV files). The disk is formatted as NTFS. I can access the large, MKV files via mapping network drive, so I know they are present on the disk and they are intact; but they media server does not show them.
