View 3 Replies View RelatedI've enabled the Media Server on my E3000 router. My PS3 can see the server and play media from it by my PCs can't!
I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player? compatible media player for Windows 7?
I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.
My router has a main network name (SSID) and media network name (SSID). I know how to change the main network name (SSID) but I don't remember exactly how I can change media network name (SSID).

I want to be ablt to use a specific DNS server rather than the one issues by my ISP.No matter what values are in the Static DNS 1, 2 and 3 the router continues to pull a DNS from my ISp. My POS old D-link 615 was able to utilize a custom DNS server with no issues so surely ther emyst be a way to do the same on the E4200.

I purchased the EA6500 a few days ago, and when I'm connected to Cisco Connect Cloud I am unable to select Folder Access / FTP Server / Media Server. I click them and nothing happens. Also, the Cisco light on the router keeps blinking.

All three VPN settings are enabled.PC is set to a static IP internally. 192.168.1.116 to be precise.PPTP port forwarding (1723) is set to the PC's static IP, though I have tried without port forwarding and it didn't work either. If I have my iPhone connected to the wireless network and point it to the internal IP address of the PC, I can connect to the VPN.If I bypass my router and hook my desktop directly to the modem (and point my iPhone to the IP that gets assigned to my desktop from my ISP) I can connect to the VPN.But if I have everything hooked up normally and try to connect to the VPN from my iPhone (using the IP address my ISP assigned to the router), I get a PPTP server not responding error.

I have 2 machines using Windows 7 and a Xbox 360. If I use the router for streaming media. Am I able to see the hard drive through the main computer it is hooked up to? Say if I dl something and want to put it on the external drive for media server. Can I save it to drive even though it is hooked up to the router? Overall. What does E4200 media server advantage have over something like windows media player to stream or windows media center?

I have the Music folder share working with a Roku Soundbridge, so now would like to copy my iTunes playlists to this folder as well. View 5 Replies View RelatedMy WRT610N media server is not serving up large, MKV files (>1GB). I have a 500 GB Maxtor connected with external power. The media server serves smaller files just fine (although they are not MKV files). The disk is formatted as NTFS. I can access the large, MKV files via mapping network drive, so I know they are present on the disk and they are intact; but they media server does not show them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the E3000 and have attched a WD 1TB USB drive. I set it up for FTP and Media sharing and it worked fine but somehow recently I could not connect anymore. I checked the router and all of my setting for the FTP and Media server were gone. The disk drive still shows avaiable but now it shows the entire 1TB free (it was at least half used). This is the second time this has happened, first I tjhought it was a bad disk and replaced it but now it happened again. I did do a power cycle some time ago but I remember it still work after that. Not sure why I am losing my settings. This does not give me a comfort level as to storing anything valuable on that drive.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an NTFS formatted USB disk drive (Western Digital My Passport Essential Black 320 GB WDBAAA3200ABK) attached to the WRT160NL wireless router (Firmware Version 1.0.02), and I have video, picture and music files on the USB disk drive in three folders: Videos, Music, Pictures. Auto-scan is disabled, I scan the media files manually by clicking on the 'Scan All' button.
PROBLEM 1 The worst problem is that the router is very sensitive to files that can't be recognized by the router as media files. For example if there are subtitle files (*.str) between the media files, then strange and nondeterministic things happen: some valid media files are skipped and not included in the media database; some files included but the file names are mixed. The most irritating in the bug is that there is no log file, where you could find the problem, and so you never know which file cause the problem, and you have to browse through all the files hunting for the cause.
PROBLEM 2 When the router is in the process of scanning the media files, then the internet (WAN) connection often can't be used, although the router can be accessed and the status says it is connected to the internet.
I have connected my LaCie rugged drive to the router and would like to use it as backup storage and as a way to stream video to my PS3.When I go to my advanced settings for the router and go to the storage heading I can see my LaCie and its specifications. There is a button next to it that says "claim", which I press, but nothing happens.I don't have the option to create a shared folder, and I can't access the drive from my Mac.On a somewhat related note, I've enabled the media server and can find it on my PS3, but there is nothing in the root folders. How do I put stuff (movies, music, etc.) into these root folders?

i've not seen anything that sugests this (also my E4200 is on order, pending delivery, so unable to look into it more), but is it possible to have a remote library with the E4200 media server? i currently have a server with alot of content on it, but it does not support uPnP/DLNA. would i be able to use the E4200 to connect to the server and access it via the E4200's media server?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed this router and connected the hard drive (Western Digital 1TB) which worked fine at first. When I moved some movie files to another folder they lost all of their data. The file names are still present, but all the media files show zero bytes and are no longer usable. Is there anyway to get these files back? I have been digitizing all our movies to the tune of about 90GB. What could be going on here? I disconnected the HD from the router and plugged directly into the laptop. Still shows the file names, but each file is still at zero bytes. Not a cool way to have a media server for your house!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 1TB drive attached to my E4200 that contains several videos sorted in a folder hierarchy, like this (these are just examples):
TV Shows
Supernatural
01. Episode 1.mp4
[Code]....
As you can see, all of my videos are in a carefully constructed heirarchy. This works with my old media server (Rivet for Mac). On the E4200, however, all of these MP4 files are merged together. My Xbox shows folders like "Albums" and "By Date", but these don't really mean anything -- all of my videos are jumbled into these folders and there's no way I can find anything.
Here's how the media server is configured:
If I can't find a solution, than the media server feature of this router is absolutely useless to me.
I'm using .01 firware and I notice that after I reboot the router I get duplicate filenames on the HD attached to it with the video files. What folder or config file can I delete so it will do a clean rescan? please fix the E4200 media server in .02 firmware
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo the problem is this: I have a Samsung TV (LE32B650) with the most recent firmware installed, connected via wire with the WRT160NL.The router also has a 320 GB disk plugged in with a bunch of movies. When I use the uPnP media server with Windows 7 PCs (wirelessly) or even a Samsung smartfone it all works very well. However the TV has an issue disconnecting from the media server in just moments from turning the DLNA function.Well to be more precise the TV says the the media served got disconnected. The router has the latest firmware, I have tried with HDDs ane thumbdrives (with just 1 AVI to make sure there is no conflict of unsupported file formats), I exchanged the wire (TV<->router), added guest user to access the partition with all scanned folders.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI decided to play around a little more with the media server feature... I've succeeded in getting SOMETHING consistent out of the 1.0.02 firmware. It's not 100% useful.
Here's what I did - whether it's pertinent, who knows:
1) I made the Media Server "Name" completely unique. My router's name was "Penguin" and that seemed to proliferate throughout the settings on the router everywhere (SMB server name, FTP, Media Server, etc.). I decided to just call the media server "Server." I then checked the option to DISABLE the server, and saved settings.
2) With the Media Server OFF, browse to the share on the USB drive, and completely delete the T wonky folder.
3) On the Media Server page of the router config, add your media sources.
4) Enable the Media Server, save, and you'll then see the T wonky folder come back, and if you go into that folder, you'll see some files being "built."
I tested a few videos and some music with the XBMC media player on my Mac book and a Windows 7 PC. I was able to add music and video sources on my small selection of test music and videos. I was also able to play them. MP3 tags and embedded artwork showed up properly, and the streaming over wireless was very good.
Now... Here's the kicker. This was just a VERY small sample of my entire collection. I had about 5 albums in MP3 format on the drive, and about 10 movies that I personally converted to MP4 with Handbrake (ripped each movie to about 1.4gb). When I threw my entire 90gb music collection on the drive and told it to scan (it, being the router Media Server page), it seemed to populate the albums up to a certain point, and then crashed. I saw the data files in the T wonky folder getting larger for about 5 minutes, then it stopped growing. At that same time, XBMC wasn't able to see any music or videos. Even after turning off the media server, then re-enabling it, I wasn't able to see anything. If I deleted the T wonky folder, and went back to a smaller subset of my collection, it once again worked "reliably."
So, one of several things is happening here.
1) There are certain files the media server cannot properly parse, and it's crashing the services that run it.
2) Something is corrupting the media database files which then prevents it from showing up.
3) There's a maximum number of files or file size that your collection can be.
If only there was a syslog we could get to on the stock firmware... Linksys.
