View 1 RepliesI have an NTFS formatted USB disk drive (Western Digital My Passport Essential Black 320 GB WDBAAA3200ABK) attached to the WRT160NL wireless router (Firmware Version 1.0.02), and I have video, picture and music files on the USB disk drive in three folders: Videos, Music, Pictures. Auto-scan is disabled, I scan the media files manually by clicking on the 'Scan All' button.
PROBLEM 1 The worst problem is that the router is very sensitive to files that can't be recognized by the router as media files. For example if there are subtitle files (*.str) between the media files, then strange and nondeterministic things happen: some valid media files are skipped and not included in the media database; some files included but the file names are mixed. The most irritating in the bug is that there is no log file, where you could find the problem, and so you never know which file cause the problem, and you have to browse through all the files hunting for the cause.
PROBLEM 2 When the router is in the process of scanning the media files, then the internet (WAN) connection often can't be used, although the router can be accessed and the status says it is connected to the internet.
I'm very disappointed with this EA4500 DLNA feature this is one of the main reasons why i got this router. My Sammy TV can detect the USB that is attached and is able to view the files in the drive but when you play any video file larger than 1gb it does not work even shuts down my TV.Only on smaller files does it work flawlessly I know its not the TV because I have played those files on my previous Router (Netgear WNDR3800) and they even work when i connect the hard drive directly to the TV has any one else had this issue happen to them?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running "PLEX Media server" on a PC and have a "Roku" client working perfectly on my home network
I am trying to use the "My PLEX" feature of "PLEX" to stream my content to the internet and access it on a Nook or iPod from any internet hot spot. This requires that the router supports DLNA. I am not sure what this is and am not successful at this so far.
Although it may sound like I know what I'm talking about I am at my limit and do not know how to determine if my router will support DLNA.
Is it time to get a new router or is there something I need to do to the router so it supports DLNA?
I want to setup my home network to run a DLNA server for videos, music, etc. I know that there are many new routers and NAS devices out there that now have the capability to run a DLNA server built-in. My question is, which would provide a better DLNA server: one that is built into the router or one that is built into the NAS device?

Set up the WDR4300 with a USB drive connected (Platinum MyDrive CP 500 GB USB 3.0).Enabled the Media server, shared the entire drive, stuck an test .avi on there. My laptop has no trouble playing it from the attached storage, my Xbox sees the folders and files, recognizes them as playable formats but then does nothing once I hit play to get the file going. If I copy the exact same file to the shared folders on my laptop, navigate from the Xbox to that location it streams within the second. Also tried the same thing with a 16 Gb USB thumbdrive, same result.

I have the video mover box checked and when it is, I can see the LaCie hard drive under network locations drive z in My Computer (Windows 7). I can open it and explore it, and see the media on the drive. But when I use one of the DLNA devices in my house (Vizio smart tv, Roku, and PS3) the only drive that shows up is the router's root file "Play N600 HD Dual video oot" not the LaCie drive or any of the contents. Is there any way to share the contents of the USB drive with these devices?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've enabled the Media Server on my E3000 router. My PS3 can see the server and play media from it by my PCs can't!
I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player? compatible media player for Windows 7?
I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.
I currently have a HDD connected to my Netgear Router which acts as a media server using Mini DNLA. It is picked by the XBox 360 over the wired network and also by other media streaming gadgets (o2 Jogglers) over the wireless network. What I am looking for is a gadget that would enable me to stream to a TV's HDMI input. It needs to be able to detect the mini DNLA server either wirelessly or via LAN and then connect to the TV's HDMI input. Does such a standalone gadget exist?

So there will plenty of storage to place pictures and movies etc etc.Every room in the house will have a coax cable and CAT6. What I want is for fast file access to the server all computers in all rooms can use the CAT6 cable. That isn't the issue, because i will use network dives and mapping.e're planning on putting a TV in every room, so we want to perfect our media setup. But how can i make it, that the server will be able to stream different movies to different TV'S at the same time? The TV'S can get the video feed via coax? Or should I pull one more cable to all the rooms? So how can i have it that the media can be accessed at the same time? I can duplicate the monitors, but is it possible to have the server/computer play 2 or more different movies to different TV'S at once?

I'm only asking about WIRED issues. When I'm copying files from my computer to server using teracopy I'm only getting about 10-11 Mb. Consistently.
I had made a thread earlier about getting a new synology server but could I have a more fundamental issue? Reason I'm asking, I copied a file from my wireless laptop to my server and it was almost 1/2 the time for the same file from win7 to server. I'd love to get the synology but kinda hard to justify $1000+ when things seem to be stable.
