Multiple Monitors Media Pc Networking Setup?
Jul 25, 2012
So I'm building a house... in the living room there will be one server-like computer. This computer will also work with a NAS. So there will plenty of storage to place pictures and movies etc etc.Every room in the house will have a coax cable and CAT6. What I want is for fast file access to the server all computers in all rooms can use the CAT6 cable. That isn't the issue, because i will use network dives and mapping.e're planning on putting a TV in every room, so we want to perfect our media setup. But how can i make it, that the server will be able to stream different movies to different TV'S at the same time? The TV'S can get the video feed via coax? Or should I pull one more cable to all the rooms? So how can i have it that the media can be accessed at the same time? I can duplicate the monitors, but is it possible to have the server/computer play 2 or more different movies to different TV'S at once?

what I want to do is setup a Tablet for use and share my one Internet connection with it and my desktop. I do not want the desktop and the Tablet networked with each other. there is a Tablet on Newegg: Velocity Micro Cruz Reader R103. the details say it's communication is 802.11b/g Wireless LAN. so I copy and paste that on Newegg and get: D-Link DIR-601 Wireless Broadband Router. not sure if that's what i need or what the configuration would be but I kind of know how to set it up.my question is can I connect a Desktop and a Tablet or any PC device to a router like this with out networking the individual units with each other? just to where it serves as more a splitter. is there any wireless alternatives to only "split" the Internet connection and not network the desktop and Tablet?

I'm trying to troubleshoot a wireless network at an Inn which is shared among three buildings. The internet at the main building works fine.
However there is a WDS set up for the other two houses that are part of the property. The network is a bit of a mess IMO. The main problem is that routers on the end of the WDS chain work for awhile after booting, but frequently stop issuing IPs. When a device tries to connect it says unable to configure IP or something like that. Rebooting the router always fixes the problem.
My networking knowledge is very limited but I think some settings must be incorrect. I will try to described the setup here..
All of the following routers are WRT54G's with DDWRT
Main router: 192.168.1.1 [different SSID that WDS], all routers forward DHCP to this router
WDS router 192.168.1.3 at main building is connected to an cantenna that shoots the signal over to 1st house. Gateway & Local DNS set to 192.168.1.1
WDS router 192.168.1.4 at that house is the main AP for that house and gets its signal from 1.3's cantenna. Gateway & Local DNS set to 192.168.1.3
WDS router 192.168.1.5 under the deck at the 1st house picks up that signal from 1.4 and uses a cantenna to send it to the 2nd house. Gateway & Local DNS set to 192.168.1.4
WDS router 192.167.1.6 under the deck of the 2nd house gets the signal from 1.5's cantenna. Gateway & Local DNS set to 192.168.1.5
The IP configuration problems happen at the 2nd house with 192.168.1.6. I believe 1.5 also has IP configuration problems but that router is not used other than to transmit to 1.6. Again rebooting the router fixes the issues temporarily. It works for a couple days up to a couple weeks before the IP problems start.
Mac addresses for the WDS are set of course. I have been trying to experiment with settings for awhile, but do not really know what I am doing. I am not the one who set this up.
Also under the Advanced Routing tab, here are the Static Routing settings:
192.168.1.3: Destination LAN NET: 192.168.1.0, Gateway: 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.4: Destination LAN NET: 192.168.1.3, Gateway: 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.5: Destination LAN NET: 192.168.1.4, Gateway: 192.168.1.3
192.168.1.6: Destination LAN NET: 192.168.1.5, Gateway: 192.168.1.4
Update: looks like STP should be enabled for WDS? Going to try enabling that I guess.

on my home network I currently only run an Airlink101 AR675W router. We have a couple issues with this. The router for one is in my basement and there are points in my house that have low signal strength, especially upstairs in the far corners of the home. Second is I am currently running my home PC as a media center but it is set-up wirlessly so streaming is clunky and jittery. Also on this network is 3 X-box's wired, a PS3 running wirless, 2 PC's wired in, 2 wirless laptops and the afore mentioned wirless PC. A lot of weight for the network. What I want to do is move the router upstairs, hardwire it into my wireless PC (the one doing the streaming) and connect a second router (an identical make and model I am buying this weekend) downstairs which will be basically used as an "expansion" of the wirless and a switch for the hardwired devices downstairs. would this be better than simply moving the wirless router upstairs (hardwiring my PC) and putting a 5 or 8 port switch in downstairs for the X-box's and 2 wired PC's there?

I am about to get a group of 5 public (external) IP addresses from my ISP. I have a Netgear WNDR3700v2 router. I was told that 1:1 NAT would be the way to assign static public IP addresses to some of my computers, while making the rest use private network IP addresses (issued by a DHCP server), and have all the computers accessible in the same domain network.
Is this possible using my netgear WNDR3700v2 router? If not, what do I need?I was looking at the Netgear FVS318G wired router, and I would then use my existing router as an access point. Does this make sense?

I am taking a camera class, everyone sits a desk with a fairly new Optiplex 780, with Windows 7 pro on them and 20 inch Dell Professional monitors.I want to be able to setup something easily so the teacher can share his screen on all of the computers in the class, the projector is terrible.Net Meeting does not exist. Vista had Windows MeetingSpace which would have been absolutely perfect. Windows 7 has SharedView, which is discontinued, is a separate download, and has to be used over the internet with a windows live login. Is there some VNC, free app out there that the teacher can put on his laptop, and have everyone connect to? Over the lan? There are many web-based options, but that probably be slow.
I can use the Bomgar and work and host a presentation, which is what I will probably do, but I have a feeling it is going to suck up a ton of bandwidth and run like crap. We want to display examples of photography in full color. He of course doesn't even know of these plans. But I want to utilize these computers we are sitting at.Could I bring in a Vista laptop, start a MeetingSpace, and have the Windows 7 computers connect to it?

I am trying to connect computers through internet connection. When I type the address on a browser (google chrome or mozilla) it says that the address is unreachable.[URL]"An attempted connection to 112.201.9.206:80 was refused. This typically indicates that there are no services available on that port, but that it is NOT being blocked by a firewall or your ISP."
Heres what I have done so far.
* Registered at DynDNS
* set-up/log-in DDNS on my router (D-Link WBR-2310). enter DDNS address, enter username and password.
* Set-up port forwarding (port 80(http) and port 443 (https)) on router
* open both port (80 and 443) on my computer and exmy windows firewall

I'm trying to set up an Iomega Home Media Network Cloud NAS and I'm having problems with opening ports 50500-50599. I have opened port 80 and 443 successfully and included the above port range above as well, but when I check it on www.yougetsignal.com the ports 50500-50599 are still closed. I even tried to split the range in two parts, and still no success. I have been in contact with my ISP and confirmed they do not block any ports in the 50500-50599 range and that the cable modem (a Motorola SBV5120) is operating in Bridge Mode.

I want absolute max throughput possible to be achieved in all focal points. We're all in internet related industries. Between gaming and web-development latency and throughput are major factors for us.
1) Garage (office). downstairs
2) Each bedroom x4. upstairs
3) Living room. downstairs
The fastest line we can get is Comcast 50mbdown/5up (Wideband).
I am looking for the best way to achieve wireless and wired performance for our setup.
Our gaming computers may be in our bedroom, and we also may bring it down to the office every now and then for LAN sessions. Most wireless will be happening downstairs with our laptops, but since we may do LAN sessions then hard wired latency may be important there too.
I dont know if placing one D-link DGL 4500 on the top floor would be enough; which I currently own. url...As far as I'm aware wireless signals transfer best top down. Would this wireless router be enough on top floor and that's it?

I am planning to imlpement an ASA 5505 in my home network and I am wondering if this is a valid configuration. I am wondering if it is necessary to have 3 separate internal subnets or if these can be cabeled together in a more efficient fashion?
I plan to keep the 2 servers (game, e-mail) branched off the ASA directly in a DMZ configuration. The rest of the clients connect through the wireless/wired router.
Any unforseen problems with a setup like this (Modem -> Firewall -> Internal Router)? I have read sites that say I will have to accept an IP via DHCP for the ASA's external interface.

Currently, I have 2 Apple Airport Extremes, and 1 Wireless Netgear ADSL Router. The 2 AAEs are connected separately to the router, and this allows us to get coverage in most part of the house (it's a large house with concrete and granite walls). I also have a HP Officejet 8500 'wireless printer' that is wired to the router as you can only print to the printer when it's in standby with a physical connection to the router (that's a different story). So my goal is to replace everything as the router is slowly dying and as a result of this, I want to be able to access the Internet wirelessly throughout the house, and be able to print from any where in the house without anything connected via cables. And as a bonus, I would like the Internet to be accessible 100 yards/metres down the garden (workshop is there). Basically, blanket coverage!

I've enabled the Media Server on my E3000 router. My PS3 can see the server and play media from it by my PCs can't!
I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player? compatible media player for Windows 7?
I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.

Anu network monitoring software that would monitors constant network connectivity? I am working with a company who uses an Access database that checks members in and out of a gym. 6-8 people work in the database at any given time. Several times a day the users will get a network error and they have to force the database to close. Sometimes this happens to all of the users and sometimes to just certain ones. I believe the problem lies with the database (due to poor programming) but I want to monitor the network connectivity to see if and when the network connection is dropped and determine if that corresponds with when users begin seeing network errors in the database.

I was actually looking forward to setup multiple routers at our college(I know its quite late) where we have quite a good network of ethernet cables. Also, almost every cluster/lab has its own switch and we use static IPs with proxy to one network address(192.168.130.2). The user should be able to travel across multiple ROUTER/AP zones without changing connections.
all I got was I have to do something with MAC cloning and SSIDs.

getting a secondary isp as back-up and redundancy...and work arounds for ddos's....I just thought that i could use a switch/bridgeable router that can act as a switch... and run that off the first in line off the #1 isp router. Instead of connecting the second into the isp port, i should be able to put the #2 isp line into that. and put #1 ethercable into one of the outgoing ports from the second. And keep all the pc's on the #1 as is....But it should still use both providers simultaniously...right? I have 3 or more routers that can do this, and i have used them like this and shared several pc's internet's other then the primary ISP. But it was shared through the pc. and separate NICS or wifi AP's. I currently have one that will autosense a gig, and have bought another router that can operate at a gig that i plan to put into the #1 position as it's the fastest one. And will keep 1 gig without variability. and also give me wifi n 450-700. And they both support bridgeing, repeating and network balanceing /shareing. This should be possible and i won't have to spend $4,000 on a router with 2 ISP ports, and only uses it as fail-over....=c this should use both simulataniously and balance workloads between each.

At my company, we lease 3 static public IP addresses from 1 ISP. We want to have 3 separate networks that each use one of the IP addresses. Network 1 is the computer network, network 2 is the VOIP network, and network 3 is the security camera network. I am trying to determine the best way to do this. I have come up with 2 solutions in my head, but I'm not sure if they will work or not. I would like to get some input. Solution 1:Solution 1 looks something like this. Fiber box -> Router-> 3 switches. There would be one WAN input on the router, that would have a static route to 3 different LAN ports. For example, address 24.244.208.101 would be assigned to LAN port 1, 24.244.208.102 would be assigned to LAN port 2, and 24.244.208.103 would be assigned to LAN port 3 (by assigned, I mean have a static route to it). Is there some type of router that is capable of doing this? Solution 2:Solution 2 looks something like this. Fiber box -> Switch -> 3 Routers. The ethernet cable would run from the Fiber Box to a switch, and then 3 routers would be plugged into the switch. Each router would have the Static information configured in them. Would both of these methods work? If so, which would be the best way to go?
