View 1 RepliesI have a wired network with 4 XP pro machines on it. It also has a Western Digital 3 TB MyBook NAS. The Internet connection is a Virgin Media Superhub wireless router connected via a fiber optic 60 Mb connection in the upstairs part of the house. Downstairs on the network is a netgear wireless router connected to the virgin router by a 10/100 Ethernet cable. I have a new laptop running windows 7 home premium that connects via either router depending on where it is in the house due to signal strength. If the laptop connects via the Netgear router it can see the whole network including the nas. if it connects using the virgin media router it can not access or see any other computer/nas on the network.

When the router was installed I could also connect to the internet wirelessly on my Laptop which is running Windows Vista Home Premium. But of late I have been unable to connect to the Internet on the Laptop. When you place the mouse pointer over the Icon in the bottom right hand corner, the following message comes up : Currenlty connected to:Unidentified(virginmediaxxxxxxxx) (where xxxxxxxx is a numeric identifier for the modem). Access: Limited connectivity or sometimes it says Access : Local only.

Virgin Media just upgraded my broadband to 100mbps. My main PC is in a place where unfortunately I cannot hard wire it to ethernet, and also the wifi signal is a bit rubbish - therefore I have been using D-Link Powerline AV Homeplugs DHP-307 200Mbps (N.B. I am fully aware that 200mbps doesn't really mean that through homeplugs, please read on)
Ages ago when my I first set this up my connection speed from Virgin Media was 50mbps and, after installing, I tested it a few times and got about 45mbps, which I was happy with.
However, due to the upgrade I thought I would test it again, and now I'm only gettin about 20-25Mbps. I did some diagnistic checks as follows:
A laptop plugged directly into my router via ethernet got 97 Mbps My laptop sitting next to my PC connected via wifi got 54 Mbps My PC connected via wifi with the ethernet/homeplug disconnected got 26 Mbps (I think my wireless card in the PC and the aeriel are both a bit rubbish though anyway)My PC connected via ethernet homeplug with no wifi got 23 Mbps
What I don't understand is:
1 - In the configuration utility for the homeplugs it says that the link speed for this plug is 96 Mbps, so how come that's not coming through?
2 - Why would it have one time been higher and now not? If it wasn't for point 1 above I might put it down to interference in the elecrical circuits, but I thought that's what the link speed would be showing me
I guess the best option would be to try and get VM to install a proper ethernet port in my study, however I can't imagine how they would do this without running cables through the house, which I don't want, so I'm trying to exhaust other options. I'm happy to ditch the homeplugs if there is something better.
I can't get my Phillips wireless notebook to connect to my virgin media hub, it connected before with a router but not this new one.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up an Iomega Home Media Network Cloud NAS and I'm having problems with opening ports 50500-50599. I have opened port 80 and 443 successfully and included the above port range above as well, but when I check it on www.yougetsignal.com the ports 50500-50599 are still closed. I even tried to split the range in two parts, and still no success. I have been in contact with my ISP and confirmed they do not block any ports in the 50500-50599 range and that the cable modem (a Motorola SBV5120) is operating in Bridge Mode.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've enabled the Media Server on my E3000 router. My PS3 can see the server and play media from it by my PCs can't!
I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player? compatible media player for Windows 7?
I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.
I have a Virgin Superhub at home which is capable of 2.4 OR 5GHz wireless. I have a mixture of 2.4 and 5 GHz tech at home so would like to use dual band. My wireless settings on my Superhub modem look like this.As you can see it has settings for 2.4 OR 5GHz and wireless modes of 54, 144 or 300Mbps.
What setting should I be using for my EA4500 to operate in dual band mode? I'm guessing I should put by Virgin Superhub modem in modem mode at 5GHz/300Mbps.I will besetting up seperate SSIDs for 2.4 and 5GHz bands.
my mother in law thought she forgot her wifi password so i tried to do a reseti reset it then no internet at all and could not access the router gateway page (192.168.1.1)I had to set the internet protocol to default and 2 power cycles later i can access the internet. Then i used the linksys disc to set up the security and now it doesn't work can't access nothing through ie.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I'm building a house... in the living room there will be one server-like computer. This computer will also work with a NAS. So there will plenty of storage to place pictures and movies etc etc.Every room in the house will have a coax cable and CAT6. What I want is for fast file access to the server all computers in all rooms can use the CAT6 cable. That isn't the issue, because i will use network dives and mapping.e're planning on putting a TV in every room, so we want to perfect our media setup. But how can i make it, that the server will be able to stream different movies to different TV'S at the same time? The TV'S can get the video feed via coax? Or should I pull one more cable to all the rooms? So how can i have it that the media can be accessed at the same time? I can duplicate the monitors, but is it possible to have the server/computer play 2 or more different movies to different TV'S at once?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOur office has three networked computers. 2 xp pro desktops and 1 xp media edition laptop. When I set up Access to work with all three I found somewhere that said that xp media has to have a password for that configuration. I'm hoping that was wrong. We backup from the Laptop (Media) to a desktop (XP) and it is currently requiring a passwordThe 2nd destop does not need a password to use shared folders on the main computer. The laptop (media) asks for a password the first time I try to connect to the main computer. I'd like to eliminate the need for a password. I have double checked the settings for gpedit.msc and the "limit local account use of blank passwords" is disabled

Set up the WDR4300 with a USB drive connected (Platinum MyDrive CP 500 GB USB 3.0).Enabled the Media server, shared the entire drive, stuck an test .avi on there. My laptop has no trouble playing it from the attached storage, my Xbox sees the folders and files, recognizes them as playable formats but then does nothing once I hit play to get the file going. If I copy the exact same file to the shared folders on my laptop, navigate from the Xbox to that location it streams within the second. Also tried the same thing with a 16 Gb USB thumbdrive, same result.
New Router - Setup went easy. Create a folder named Media - copy a few formats in only 6 files all less than 2gb in size, 2 x avi (divx/xvid), mp3, mkv, mp4 and flv. All excited I scoot over to the PS 3 - righto we can do this!! Only to see no titles found. Great stuff Go to router - media server - scan - database updated - awesome let's try again! No titles found. Ok?!? Reboot router - reboot ps3. Still frowning - no titles found?
