When the router was installed I could also connect to the internet wirelessly on my Laptop which is running Windows Vista Home Premium. But of late I have been unable to connect to the Internet on the Laptop. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a wired network with 4 XP pro machines on it. It also has a Western Digital 3 TB MyBook NAS. The Internet connection is a Virgin Media Superhub wireless router connected via a fiber optic 60 Mb connection in the upstairs part of the house. Downstairs on the network is a netgear wireless router connected to the virgin router by a 10/100 Ethernet cable. I have a new laptop running windows 7 home premium that connects via either router depending on where it is in the house due to signal strength. If the laptop connects via the Netgear router it can see the whole network including the nas. if it connects using the virgin media router it can not access or see any other computer/nas on the network.

My main PC is in a place where unfortunately I cannot hard wire it to ethernet, and also the wifi signal is a bit rubbish - therefore I have been using D-Link Powerline AV Homeplugs DHP-307 200Mbps (N.B. I am fully aware that 200mbps doesn't really mean that through homeplugs, please read on)
Ages ago when my I first set this up my connection speed from Virgin Media was 50mbps and, after installing, I tested it a few times and got about 45mbps, which I was happy with.
However, due to the upgrade I thought I would test it again, and now I'm only gettin about 20-25Mbps. I did some diagnistic checks as follows:
A laptop plugged directly into my router via ethernet got 97 Mbps My laptop sitting next to my PC connected via wifi got 54 Mbps My PC connected via wifi with the ethernet/homeplug disconnected got 26 Mbps (I think my wireless card in the PC and the aeriel are both a bit rubbish though anyway)My PC connected via ethernet homeplug with no wifi got 23 Mbps
What I don't understand is:
1 - In the configuration utility for the homeplugs it says that the link speed for this plug is 96 Mbps, so how come that's not coming through?
2 - Why would it have one time been higher and now not? If it wasn't for point 1 above I might put it down to interference in the elecrical circuits, but I thought that's what the link speed would be showing me
I guess the best option would be to try and get VM to install a proper ethernet port in my study, however I can't imagine how they would do this without running cables through the house, which I don't want, so I'm trying to exhaust other options. I'm happy to ditch the homeplugs if there is something better.

At minimum, there is a cmpatibility issue. cannot find one article that resolves issues of wireless interuption, slow speeds, and disconnects. I'm ready to dump this 70 GBP device and spend another on netgear.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a friend with a secure wireless network in his house. When I first took my laptop over there I couldn't connect to it even with his network password. I spent some time tweaking his router by updating the firm ware via his laptop. I was able to get connected with great speeds with my laptop but his laptop couldn't do anything. I contacted the router support and it was recommended I do a hard reset on the router. So I did that. Now we can both get connected to the router and his laptop does fine but my laptop won't load a single page of anything. It shows I am connected at 54Mbs but the page times out before it loads a single bar in the IE progress window. Heck, even on dial up at home it only takes 15 seconds to fully load my home page. I double checked the frequency to see if that would make a difference. Doing that verified I'm on the right frequency. He still has the security set up on the router which does keep me from connecting until I add the security key. Then it connects fine but as I said with no thru put.I have a Sony Vaio FE660 with XP Media Edition. He is running Vista.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor some reason today my desktop stopped being able to share media with other computers and devices.I mainly use PS3 Media Server to stream and download content to multiple devices including my PS3, Xbox 360, iPad, and iPhone. Now none of those devices can see the server. I tried restarting it, restarting my computer, and updating to the latest version.I've also tried turning on other media servers like TVersity and Windows Media Player and none of my devices can detect any of those either, so there must be something wrong with my desktop's networking (but it can still get internet). I haven't made any changes to my home network since yesterday (the last time I used my media server).My desktop runs on a wireless network with a Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter, my router is a Netgear WGT624v4, and my cable modem is a Toshiba. I'm using Windows Vista 32bit.

2. NAS Zyxel NSA310 with latest firmware 4.50(AFK.0)D0_20120405 running Twonky Media Server (TMS) Twonky 7.0.5 Special connected to X3000 via network cable.
3. Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) with latest firmware 4.11 connected to X3000 via WIFI.
When PS3 is connected via WIFI to X3000, TMS is not visible in PS3. When PS3 is connected via network cable to X3000, TMS is visible and working as hell. No static IP's, whole network based on DHCP. UPnP is ON.Problem mentioned on that different forum was solved by firmware update. Can I expect firmware update also here?
I have an E4200 with a USB hard drive connected to its USB port. I want to use the E4200 media server to stream divx and other video files on my Sharp Aquos HDTVs.I have an LC-70LE732U and a LC-52LE832U wired to my network. Both of them seem to discover and successfully connect to my media server however only MP3s and certain MPG files are detected. None of the AVI files show up.I have upgraded my E4200 firmware to 1.0.03 hoping that would fix the problem but it didn't. I don't want to run a Windows based media server as I don't have a computer that I can leave on all the time.

A few days ago it just stopped connecting. I had the network setting on my TV for the IP adress on auto, but I input manual settings (router ip adress) to see if it would work, no success. Everytime I try and connect it says

I can use the internet with my computer/phone/portable gaming device, just not the TV. I tried disabling my firewall on my computer to see if it was causing an issue but that didn't work. I can't get my Sony VAIO to connect to the Internet via wireless or ethernet. It was working fine and then suddenly lost all Internet connectivity. Under the status it says "connected with limited access." I have an iPad and my smartphone running on the network so I know it's not a network issue.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new actiontec modem/router, used to have a D-link modem/router and all my devices, computers worked fine. now everything connects except the Sony TV with Sony USB wireless lan adapter. I have read a lot of posts and one here was sort of the same. The problem is I get the 169.254.72.161 which I understand is what it sets to when it won't connect to the router and get a new Ip address. I haven't been able to manually put the ip in. Also even connecting with the cable direct to the modem/router still doesn't connect.The member who also had this problem was with his xp win computer. My problem this is with a tv device so I can't release ip or anything. They said his problem was a" be that Winsock2 is corrupted."

I'm currently experiencing an issue where the on/off switch to my Sony Vaio VPCCW21FX is currently a little bit loose. I don't recall ever applying any type of shock to the computer but realized when I pulled it out of my bag, it was somewhat loose which was strange because I always handled my laptop with great care. So I'm attempting to connect to my WiFi network and when trying to turn it on and off, I don't get a response from the computer indicating it's now ready to search for a network, it acts like I intentionally turned off the WiFi and kept it off even though I have it turned to off.
I attempted to run the troubleshooting process on the laptop but it states that I need to turn on my WiFi to fix the issue but I already have it switched to on.
Now I know at this time that I wouldn't be able to get this repaired without being charged an arm and a leg so I wanted to see if it was possible to turn on the WiFi from within the laptop, somewhat like using software to turn it on instead of the hardware on/off switch for the wireless connection.
Basically when I try and connect to my wifi (netgear router) I get a very strong signal but local only access & an unidentified network. I have my desktop & 2 more laptops running off this router so it can't be that.After failing to connect to wifi I tried to use an ethernet connection to try and update my drivers in hope that would fix the wifi problem. After plugging the ethernet in I was in exactly the same position, I kept getting 'Identifying' appear in network connections which then turned to unidentified and wouldn't allow me to connect to the internet either!The laptop is about 3-4 years old I think so I did update the drivers but that didn't do anything either,

I have Netgear router and can't connect to Sony TVI thought earlier comments would solve my problems with my Sony KDL32EX713 but No.I didn't do anything at the router admin side as I couldn't see what could be changed (I'm on Vista). View 8 Replies View Relatedi just bought a new Sony Vaio VPCSB 490 X Laptop. I should preface this with the fact that my old vaio i had to get rid of because it stopped connecting to any wireless networks (among other reasons.) I had it looked at and was told the wireless card was broken.
My problem with the new one is that i can only get limited connectivity to the network, even though all other wireless devices in the house are fine. Here's the ip configuration i brought up when the computer was connected to the router with an ethernet cord:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've enabled the Media Server on my E3000 router. My PS3 can see the server and play media from it by my PCs can't!
I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player? compatible media player for Windows 7?
I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.
