I have just setup a E2000 at home. All the wireless connections work and also my NAS server who i wired. But when i try to setup my wired media server it will not connect.

I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player? compatible media player for Windows 7?
I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.
My router has a main network name (SSID) and media network name (SSID). I know how to change the main network name (SSID) but I don't remember exactly how I can change media network name (SSID).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently replaced my Linksys WRV54G with a Linksys e2000 where I stream H.264 vido in 480p from one computer connected over gigabit to my Media Center running on Windows 7 64 bit connected at 10/100.
Before the router change, I was able to playback video over the network with no problems. If I connect the Linksys WRV54G again, the issue goes away. The Linksys WRV54G does not have gigabit and I have read related issues of video stuttering over gigabit.
I have an e2000 wireless router and have several devices connected by ethernet cable including private data on an external hard drive. I am planning to allow a tenant in another building connect via an ethernet cable connected to my router. Can I limit that computer (tenant's computer) from accessing all other devices connected by ethernet cable to my router? I know can password protect wireless access and limit access to the internet that way -- but my question is specifically to connections by ethernet cable.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco E2000. When i connect to my cable modem directly, I get 30-35 MBps down and about 10 up. When I plug in to my E2000 it does that at first... but slowly over time, the speed degrades, usually down to about 5-6 down and 3-4 up. If I unplug the router, it typically restores full speed, but not for long (a few days maybe). Also, when I unplug the router, it is pretty hot.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys E2000 router that is connected to my cable modem. I have a desktop computer that is connected to the router via an ethernet cable, and two laptops in the house that connect wirelessly to the router to get internet access.
This morning, all devices were connected to the internet just fine. I stepped away for a few hours and during that time the desktop 'lost' its internet connection. I have tried re-booting the router and removing-reconnecting the ethernet cable but nothing is restoring the connection.
The fact that my wireless devices are connecting means my internet service is fine, right? So what is preventing the desktop from gaining a connection?
Just replaced my older Cisco router with an E2000 and now none of the connected PCs can ping each other. I have two wired and two wireless nodes on the 192.168.1.X subnet (defaults) using DHCP. All nodes can access the Internet with no problems, but none of them can see each other -- no ping, no Network Neighborhood, nothing. Since this all worked fine before I swapped routers and I've made no changes on any of the nodes, I presume this is something about the router.
I've tried all the usual troubleshooting steps (spent 10 years working as Systems Engineering in IP networking) - no luck. I've also tried various settings of the router (e.g. turned off SPI) but no luck either.
my new router doesn't block connections between attached PCs on the same subnet ....
P.S. One strange observation : using Wireshark I can see the pinging node (.137) ARP for the destination IP (.102), and the ARP reply is sent by the destination node (.102) , but it looks like the Echo Request never makes it to the target machine -- i.e. I think the router is blocking it.
I have a problem with my download speed. I'm supposed to have a speed of 60 MBPS and when I collect my computer direct to the modem I received it but with my e2000 router, the 3 computer connected to it can't reach more than 30 MBPS. I just updated the firmware of the router to the newest version but nothing changed.

I have already tried to reconfigure the router and that didn't work either.
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust a day or two ago I was able to do what the title says, didn't make any adjustments to my E2000 while in it, had to find something though.Anyhow, connecting to http://192.168.1.1 results in "Unable to Connect", etc. Also tried it in IE9, Firefox Beta is my primary, and it still didn't work. Tried using Cisco Connect and it says it cannot connect to my router. I am wired to my E2000, which in turn is wired to my DSL modem (Actiontec GT701D-Its firewall not in use). I sitll have full connection to the internet as well as other wireless deveices do in my house.

However, when I downoaded the software to set it up again, it said it was not compatable with my Mac OS (X Lion 10.7.4). I am sure there is a way to manually set it up via an ethernet connection, but I am at a loss as to how to do that. View 1 Replies View RelatedSo my family has an E2000 setup near the modem in a room that litterally is a DEADZONE, signal bearly gets in or out of this room. I've argued until I was blue in the face that we ned to rewire the internets inlet to the house in to another room that isn't a deadzone and rune a router from there.They IT disadvantaged refused. We have also an E2500 they say hook it up, maybe it will work better (when your in a concrete and mettal room with a router sitting on a shelf surrounded by book and with a corless phone system hooks up and sitting on top of it... its jsut not going to work. is there a way i can take the E2500 and make it an access point for the E2000?
I figure if I can I would take the E2500 and put int in a better location and jsut have it relay the E2000 internet. Because of the IT limited thought process of most of the people living here I'd prefer that they share the same SSID or atleast make for a simple transition for the apes I live with.
I just setup the Linksys EA4500 router on my computer and I am able to hook up to the internet on my computer and on my Logitech Revue. How do I access the media server? It is not showing up on the Logitech Revue or my Samsung TV

I have opened port 80 and 443 successfully and included the above port range above as well, but when I check it on www.yougetsignal.com the ports 50500-50599 are still closed. I even tried to split the range in two parts, and still no success. I have been in contact with my ISP and confirmed they do not block any ports in the 50500-50599 range and that the cable modem (a Motorola SBV5120) is operating in Bridge Mode.

Set up the WDR4300 with a USB drive connected (Platinum MyDrive CP 500 GB USB 3.0).Enabled the Media server, shared the entire drive, stuck an test .avi on there.My laptop has no trouble playing it from the attached storage, my Xbox sees the folders and files, recognizes them as playable formats but then does nothing once I hit play to get the file going.If I copy the exact same file to the shared folders on my laptop, navigate from the Xbox to that location it streams within the second.Also tried the same thing with a 16 Gb USB thumbdrive, same result.
I recently switched from dsl to cable. I have a e2000 router that I would still like to use. The modem I have is a Motorola Surfboard SB6121. It has no options that I can modify. The modem has a built in DHCP server. However, I can't modify it and I don't like the ip configuration it uses. For the time being I have the modem connected to a switch which is working fine. What I would like to know is how to configure the e2000 to use the modems connection. I used PPPoE for DSL and had login information.

The only way I can get the Media Server to recover is to power cycle the E4200
I have 2 machines using Windows 7 and a Xbox 360. If I use the router for streaming media. Am I able to see the hard drive through the main computer it is hooked up to? Say if I dl something and want to put it on the external drive for media server. Can I save it to drive even though it is hooked up to the router? Overall. What does E4200 media server advantage have over something like windows media player to stream or windows media center?

I have a 500 GB Maxtor connected with external power.The media server serves smaller files just fine (although they are not MKV files). The disk is formatted as NTFS. I can access the large, MKV files via mapping network drive, so I know they are present on the disk and they are intact; but they media server does not show them.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have the E3000 and have attched a WD 1TB USB drive. I set it up for FTP and Media sharing and it worked fine but somehow recently I could not connect anymore. I checked the router and all of my setting for the FTP and Media server were gone. The disk drive still shows avaiable but now it shows the entire 1TB free (it was at least half used). This is the second time this has happened, first I tjhought it was a bad disk and replaced it but now it happened again. I did do a power cycle some time ago but I remember it still work after that. Not sure why I am losing my settings. This does not give me a comfort level as to storing anything valuable on that drive.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an NTFS formatted USB disk drive (Western Digital My Passport Essential Black 320 GB WDBAAA3200ABK) attached to the WRT160NL wireless router (Firmware Version 1.0.02), and I have video, picture and music files on the USB disk drive in three folders: Videos, Music, Pictures. Auto-scan is disabled, I scan the media files manually by clicking on the 'Scan All' button.
PROBLEM 1 The worst problem is that the router is very sensitive to files that can't be recognized by the router as media files. For example if there are subtitle files (*.str) between the media files, then strange and nondeterministic things happen: some valid media files are skipped and not included in the media database; some files included but the file names are mixed. The most irritating in the bug is that there is no log file, where you could find the problem, and so you never know which file cause the problem, and you have to browse through all the files hunting for the cause.
PROBLEM 2 When the router is in the process of scanning the media files, then the internet (WAN) connection often can't be used, although the router can be accessed and the status says it is connected to the internet.
