Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT160NL DLNA Media Server Unstable
Oct 1, 2010I have an NTFS formatted USB disk drive (Western Digital My Passport Essential Black 320 GB WDBAAA3200ABK) attached to the WRT160NL wireless router (Firmware Version 1.0.02), and I have video, picture and music files on the USB disk drive in three folders: Videos, Music, Pictures. Auto-scan is disabled, I scan the media files manually by clicking on the 'Scan All' button.
PROBLEM 1 The worst problem is that the router is very sensitive to files that can't be recognized by the router as media files. For example if there are subtitle files (*.str) between the media files, then strange and nondeterministic things happen: some valid media files are skipped and not included in the media database; some files included but the file names are mixed. The most irritating in the bug is that there is no log file, where you could find the problem, and so you never know which file cause the problem, and you have to browse through all the files hunting for the cause.
PROBLEM 2 When the router is in the process of scanning the media files, then the internet (WAN) connection often can't be used, although the router can be accessed and the status says it is connected to the internet.

Aug 1, 2012I'm very disappointed with this EA4500 DLNA feature this is one of the main reasons why i got this router.My Sammy TV can detect the USB that is attached and is able to view the files in the drive but when you play any video file larger than 1gb it does not work even shuts down my TV.Only on smaller files does it work flawlessly I know its not the TV because I have played those files on my previous Router (Netgear WNDR3800) and they even work when i connect the hard drive directly to the TV has any one else had this issue happen to them?

Mar 25, 2012When I try to stream a movie through the media server or through my computer to my xbox 360 the video will play fine for a couple minutes then it well get choppy and then the sound will not sync with the picture. I have the latest firmware and reset it also. Tried switching channels and changed mtu didn't do anything. tried steaming on 2 different xboxs and its the same thing.

Aug 4, 2011I recently replaced my Linksys WRV54G with a Linksys e2000 where I stream H.264 vido in 480p from one computer connected over gigabit to my Media Center running on Windows 7 64 bit connected at 10/100.
Before the router change, I was able to playback video over the network with no problems. If I connect the Linksys WRV54G again, the issue goes away. The Linksys WRV54G does not have gigabit and I have read related issues of video stuttering over gigabit.

So, I thought since that all the things that I'd like to watch are on my laptop (Win 7 64-bit) which is in the same room, within reach for an ethernet connection. I have plugged in the ethernet cable, but predictably, they won't talk to each other. And I have no idea how to make them do so. I messed around with matching the IP Addresses, and Bridging the connection with my Wireless connection, but to no avail.

Apr 18, 2012I've enabled the Media Server on my E3000 router. My PS3 can see the server and play media from it by my PCs can't!
I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player? compatible media player for Windows 7?
I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.
Why Can't Link Video Via Laptop To HDTV Usb
Apr 16, 2011I can burn a video file to USB stick and then insert that stick in my new HDTV's usb port, and the television recognises and plays the file. So it seems reasonable that a wireless (perfect) or wired (ok too) connection could be made to stream the content. No?I keep looking at the USB wifi sticks that allow filesharing between laptops and wonder why I couldn't just use a pair of them to link the two devices. But I can find no information out there at all on this.My problem is that movies burned to dvd or usbstick fail to play about half the time via the television usb port or via the blu ray player. "Error, no video file detected". And subtitles are very very dicey. Samsung's firmware (latest updates installed) just doesn't seem to handle files nearly as well as most software based players. VLC player on the laptop (and most players for that matter) play movies without trouble. Included subtitle files always sync up just fine via VLC without any prompting. So I'm looking for a link for watching movies via vlcplayer on my laptop and streaming them to my HDTV or Blu Ray player.

Sep 6, 2012My computer is a HP Laptop Model Number DV2815EA running windows vista 32 bit. Its a few years old. Recently i have had problems with my wireless adapter turning itself off whenever i watch videos online. It doesn't happen all the time, but if i am watching something for more than an hour it will cut off. There is a blue light and a switch on the front of the laptop, and when the wireless adapter is off, the light changes to red.
The light will change to red sometimes whilst watching video, and the only way i can turn the wireless back on is if i restart the system. Even if i activate and disable the wireless adapter using the external manual switch, or the internal controls using the wireless assistant. Also, not sure if this is relevant but i can no longer either watch videos on full screen as the image gets jolty.
Things i have tried:
1) restoring the system to a previous restore point - i tried this but for some reason the only restore points i could find were ones dated after i started noticing the problem.
2) reinstalling the wireless adapter driver and video card driver.
3) running a full 6 hour antivirus scan - I am using Eset NOD32 antivirus and also i scanned using comodo cleaning essentials.

May 31, 2012Every time I play League of Legends, Rumble fighter, or Maplestory, about 20-30 minutes into the game, my laptop disconnects from my router. Then, when I try to reconnect, the router connection thing magically disappears from the settings. This forces me to restart my laptop. When I DO restart my laptop, the connection is there again. Everything is fine when I surf the web.

Because from other server via router all OK. USB drive in NTFS format, maybe I need to use a ext3 or other file system for DLNA?

Feb 11, 2013When I plug in the power cord to my EA6500 all the LED's on the back, and the white Cisco on the front come on solid, then the lights on the back go out and the white Cisco light starts blinking faster than every second. I can't get it to stop blinking no matter what I've tried so far.
It won't let me connect to it at all. I've tried everything I can think of, and have tried almost everything I could find in Troubleshooting in Cisco Community. The Linksys Smart Wi Fi Router setup says "We could not find your router."
I've also tried using the red Reset button and the light never stops flashing. I've tried pushing the button quickly, holding it down for ten seconds, and holding it down for more than 30 seconds, but the light continues to blink. I've also unplugged it and waited more than 10 seconds, but nothing seems to work.

Jul 11, 2012I just upgraded to the EA4500 for added range, etc. I'd like to let TiVo have the 5g side and use the 2.4g side for everything else. How can I even tell which band TiVo is using?
I tried setting TiVo up manually but it won't accept the password/key for the 5g band. I gave up and used the "push button" method, but I have a feeling that puts it on the 2.4g band.I do have two different SSIDs and two different passwords.
