I have a friends laptop running Windows, either Vista or 7 where the video subsystem isn't working. But it is running and I plugged it into my network/router. I would like to get to the hard drive to get files off. I have both Linux Mint and Windows 7 on my computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI can burn a video file to USB stick and then insert that stick in my new HDTV's usb port, and the television recognises and plays the file. So it seems reasonable that a wireless (perfect) or wired (ok too) connection could be made to stream the content. No?I keep looking at the USB wifi sticks that allow filesharing between laptops and wonder why I couldn't just use a pair of them to link the two devices. But I can find no information out there at all on this.My problem is that movies burned to dvd or usbstick fail to play about half the time via the television usb port or via the blu ray player. "Error, no video file detected". And subtitles are very very dicey. Samsung's firmware (latest updates installed) just doesn't seem to handle files nearly as well as most software based players. VLC player on the laptop (and most players for that matter) play movies without trouble. Included subtitle files always sync up just fine via VLC without any prompting. So I'm looking for a link for watching movies via vlcplayer on my laptop and streaming them to my HDTV or Blu Ray player.

Have HDMI on the laptop and on the TV. Unfortunately, my Nvidia card will not do audio in Linux. A known issue. View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer is a HP Laptop Model Number DV2815EA running windows vista 32 bit. Its a few years old. Recently i have had problems with my wireless adapter turning itself off whenever i watch videos online. It doesn't happen all the time, but if i am watching something for more than an hour it will cut off. There is a blue light and a switch on the front of the laptop, and when the wireless adapter is off, the light changes to red.
The light will change to red sometimes whilst watching video, and the only way i can turn the wireless back on is if i restart the system. Even if i activate and disable the wireless adapter using the external manual switch, or the internal controls using the wireless assistant. Also, not sure if this is relevant but i can no longer either watch videos on full screen as the image gets jolty.
Things i have tried:
1) restoring the system to a previous restore point - i tried this but for some reason the only restore points i could find were ones dated after i started noticing the problem.
2) reinstalling the wireless adapter driver and video card driver.
3) running a full 6 hour antivirus scan - I am using Eset NOD32 antivirus and also i scanned using comodo cleaning essentials.
Every time I play League of Legends, Rumble fighter, or Maplestory, about 20-30 minutes into the game, my laptop disconnects from my router. Then, when I try to reconnect, the router connection thing magically disappears from the settings. This forces me to restart my laptop. When I DO restart my laptop, the connection is there again. Everything is fine when I surf the web.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI was on vacation last week in Arizona.While there, I transferred my camera pictures to the hard drive. Meanwhile, i configured the laptop to shut down upon lid close. I had to go out for 4 hours and was in a hurry do just closed it. Apparently, it didn't shut down and the heat from the LCD screen radiated into the keyboard, overheating the video chip, frying it. Now I get just a white screen. I want to get my contents off onto a new laptop. VGA output doesn't work. How can I transfer files to new laptop without disassembly?

Then I have my beast/monster desktop gaming PC with a kick-ass geforce gtx 650 Ti, and an i7 processor, etc etc.... The thing it DOESN'T have is WiFi, or any internet capabilities at all (until I get a WiFi card in it or something).I have some 4 GB movies in my laptop, and so far what I been doing to transfer those movies to my desktop PC is saving it in a USB memory stick from my laptop, then taking the memory stick to the desktop PC and saving it there. I would like to be able to access the working files on each computer from the other. I have changed the workgroup name on my Win 7 laptop to the same name as the workgroup on my XP desktop. I have connected both PCs to the router and has made changes to the file sharing enability to both. However, when I changed the ip address to 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 respectively, the one using the ip add 192.168.1.2 could not access internet. And if I set both to default networks, my laptop failed to see the shared drive.

And when I go to Network and Sharing Center, on "View your active networks" part, I click joined to give check mark on Pictures, Music, Videos, Documents, and Printers (the default setting: only printers that got checked). After I checked those all, I click "Save changes". But, if I go back to click "Joined" It was set as default, it is like it doesn't save my setting.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop computer, Sony VAIO laptop, and a Motorola router. The computers are both running Windows 7 Professional. The desktop computer is running 32 bit Windows and the Laptop 64 bit.
My network appears to be Windows Homegroup which got setup after a crash of the desktop. Previously, I ran a network setup with Motorolas tech support and it ran fine (before crash and reinstall on desktop computer). I had access back and forth between both computers. I would rather not run Windows Homegroup but it looks like I am stuck with it if there is no way to remove it and resinstall another network or unless I can have two networks on my computer.
The error message that I get when trying access my laptop from the desktop is
"Windows cannot access \name-VAIOackups You do not have permission to access \name-VAIOackups"
I have set file sharing on both computers and am running all files as administrator. How can I regain access between these computers?
Recently my laptop, which is successfully connected to the wireless network, has failed to recognize shared folders on my desktop and the external hard drive connected to it. Laptop running 7, desktop running XP Pro. 2 days ago it was working fine. Yesterday it stopped working. I have made no changes that I can think of. All of the folders on the desktop and external drive that I want shared are set up for sharing. So, my question is, what do I need to do to again be able to read and write to these folders, especially the ones on the external hard drive. I believe the adjustment has to be made on the desktop, either in the network connections or the file sharing, but the laptop may need adjusted as well.

Internet connectivity on my laptop is lost shortly after beginning to upload/download files over the internet to my cloud storage provider. I also lose connectivity when transferring files to or from the laptop within my LAN to a desktop computer connected via wireless router as part of a workgroup. Connectivity is only restored once I restart the laptop or uninstall, then reinstall drivers for my wireless network card. The event is non-profit so spending as little money as possible or none at all is the best option for us. We use a 3G card/dongle and a laptop with 2 or 3 webcams for the video feed....The results/scoring system in use at the event is controlled by the organisers and they have setup a VNC server where teams can connect with their laptops via a wireless network to view results, what I would like to do, is to include the results screen in my video feed. So somehow, I need to trick my computer into thinking that the VNC viewer software is a video input device.I have looked for something similar last year but didn't have much success, If separate laptops are needed, I have 3 windows laptops at my disposal and a macbook pro which will be on the same network. Whichever one will be most suitable for the task will be used.

Netflix works decent most of the time, buffering occasionally but Youtube buffers all the time and is not watchable. Using a Netgear WGT624 b/g router located some 60 feet away a half floor upstairs. Internet downstream speed is about 5.5 Mbps on the hard wired main computer and laptops show the same speed when connected wirelessly. Wireless Network Connection Status on a laptop close to the TV show "Very Good to Good" signal strength and Speed at 11 Mbps. Why is the Yotube connection so poor on the TV? The Netflix could be better too. Laptop by the TV streams Neflix and Yotube fine but of course that is not HD. Do I need an upgraded router or powerline network adapter?
