Whenever I play video games my internet is completely interrupted and eventually disconnects.I thought it was a steam issue but recently I bought dragon age 2 and the exact same thing happens for it.
What is strange is that it continues to happen even if I run the game in a window and pull up a program in front of it, but the moment I minimize the game (windowed) the internet picks right up 2 seconds or so after I minimize it. I verified this by running speed tests and minimizing and reopening the game window to see what would happen.
I am completely confused on where to begin. I remember playing Arma 2 6 months ago and I didn't have this issue but something has changed since then and I don't know what.I have U-Verse internet, ATI Radeon HD 5700, Intel i5 cpu 2.67ghz, windows 7 32 bit, and 4 gb ram.
I've been gaming all day and my ping has been extremely high. I figured it was someone in my house downloading something but now it's... 1 a.m. I checked my whole house and shut down everyone's computers so I'm positive no one is stealing my bandwidth.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy internet/gaming/netflix has been slowing down lately, some parts of the day there are no problems, other parts (4-10pm) its impossible. I live with one roommate, I have my own router and he has his own router. Mine is a Netgear router, not sure what his is. Ourinternet, with no problems is: 65ping, 4.8 mbps, and .60 upload. When its busy: 180ping, .30 mbps, and .09 upload. I constantly get kicked off xbox live and its super frustrating. The thing is, when my roommate is gone I am able to stream netflix in HD without any problems. However, when he's using netflix the quality of mine drops to the lowest signal and most times disconnects me from xbox live. I'm not sure if this is an ISP issue or a router issue

I've tried so many settings I cant even remember where i left off but one general question, troubleshoot to the next step with the wga54g; sometimes the connection shows 'acquring address' but never connects. I've fiddled with things so that i can get the GA to acquire an address but the internet comes through. Also the GA never shows up on the client table. So is the fact that i can get a network address a good thing or doesn't that necessarily mean i'm 'connected' to the network. Its frustrating to have the G light lite up yet no connection also at one point I did get the GA to show up in the client table when it was directly connected to the linksys 1200 but when i walked into the room and attached it to the PC, no dice I've turned off all firewalls temporarily and the 1200 is set on wpa/wp2 mixed. when i tried setting it just to wpa i got a warning then I lost my internet. I had to reinstall the 1200 again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI play some games online casually, primarily League of Legends, and about every second sitting the internet has frequent 'blips' of going down for long enough to make the game have connection issues. I've noticed it is the sending that goes down and if the receiving goes down at all, then it is very quick. (The game still plays and I see everything that is happening but cannot respond. This happens in Rift too the rare time I play it and the even rarer flash games I play). Though I have tried many things to fix this issue, it hasn't truly bothered me that much until recently when I realized I play even less than I normally would out of fear the game session will be ruined by the internet.About half a year ago the internet was in very bad shape. It crashed often and stayed down for a long time. My ISP is Comcast (Or Xfinity...), and it took me many weeks of harassing their customer support (off and on) for them to fix it. Then it ran smoothly for a couple months before it started having these blips.
The details:When it has a blip, before, during, and afterwards (I've sat by the modem to watch it happen), there is no indication of the internet having trouble on the modem indicator lights. Nothing changes, and they flash at about the same rate as normal. The router I have is a Linksys, and nothing seems to change on it either during a blip.I have the games port forwarded. All my firewalls including the windows firewall are off. I have updated my wifi and internet drivers on my computer and am using the firmware recommended to me by my ISP for the router.
I recently installed a NetGear router to my PC in order to do online gaming. Now my laptop does not connect to the internet. I have spent over 9 hours on the phone with Centurylink (the internet provider); Netgear (the router) and HP (the laptop). Each one says its not their problem. The laptop can find our connection, it says "Connected". However it then says "Internet access denied".

Forgot to mention the router is just on the other side of a wall, its about 5 feet away.
I've recently upgraded my computer from a XP machine to a Win7 machine. Back in the old days of my XP machine I would almost only use it to play a Battlefield 2 mod called Project Reality. When I first purchased the wirelsess USB adapter I had a problem with the game losing connection for a little while every 30 second, which of course was extremely annoying. I later solved this problem by disabling Windows Zero Wireless.
But if I turn off WLAN autoconfig in Windows 7 I'm not able to connect to my WIFI at all. It turns off my third party wireless software as well?By the way my USB adapater is a D-link 160 and my router is a D-link 615 (Maybe... I'm at work so it's just out of my memory)
So my router is in a place where it cannot be moved as i have an old house which has small hallways and one central living room way the hell out in the boondocks relatively speaking. my brother just recently added a belkin dual band range extender to his room and i know it will be terrible for online gaming..is there an access point or range extender that i can use to hard wire my xbox 360 into that will still give me somewhat wired performance?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently playing Football manager 2011 with a friend via a network game. The game will work perfectly if I connect my Laptop to the modem directly and bypass the Wireless. However if I try to play the game while connected to the wireless then my friend is unable to connect to the game. This is becoming an issue as for me to be able to play the game I have to turn the wireless off which is getting on the nerves of other family members

When I exit the game all goes back to normal...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI manage Wi-Fi on a college campus, and we have implemented 802.1x with RADIUS authentication running on a Windows server, and that works well. The issue is that the college is looking at removing wired connections in the dorms in favor of just deploying wireless, and the gaming consoles (Xbox, PS3, etc. ) cannot support 802.1x. We use Cisco 5508 Wireless LAN controllers with 1142 and 3602 APs.
I would like to enable MAC address authentication for these gaming consoles, wherein we (IT) would enter the MAC address of the console for a single connection and allow that console to connect to Wi-Fi, but I do not want to use WEP or any other TKIP passwords, because once the students would know the password they would use WEP/WPA instead of authenticating through RADIUS for their PC/tablet connections. .
I have recently purchased an asus rt-n66u dual band gigabit router. What are the best settings for wireless gaming? The wireless adaptor I'm using is an asus usb-n53 dual band. Do I need to set it for auto mode or n only? and 20 or 40 mhz or 20/40 combined? do I need aes/tkip encryption or just aes?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the E4200v1 and if I remember correctly I think its on 1.0.0.3 (cant remember because I went back to my wndr3700). I had not had any problems with it until yesterday when I returned to playing The Hunter (first time playing it on the E4200) and my girl hollered upstairs saying that she lost connection on the laptop. I reset the router and she reconnected and I went back to playing the game. 2 minutes later she hollers again. I stopped playing the game to try to figure out the wireless issue and everything looked normal. No more loss connections for the next few hours..........Until I started playing the game again...so I took it out of line and put the 3700 back in line and played the game for hours with no connection drop to the wireless. Is this a knows issue on the 4200? Are some setting changes necessary to game on it? btw I was playing the game wired and it didnt effect the connection at all?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just had Comcast setup my internet and it is really fast. 30 down, 10 up, 40 ping, my connection to my computer (wireless) is very fast and my online gaming (wired) is not laggy at all.The problem lies with the connection dropping when I am online gaming. I connected directly to the modem and there's no problem at all. I connect to my Linksys EA3500 and once I start playing in an online game, I disconnect from Xbox Live and am dropped from the game... anywhere from right away until about 10-15 minutes into the game. This is the only time where my connection falters at all, otherwise it is great. But I play online a lot, and competitively, so I obviously need a stable connection.I have not had this issue with my previous ISP in New York, Time Warner and that connection was much worse. I'm thinking it must be a setting on the router that is causing this, but I can't pinpoint what. I tried automatic AND static connections from my xbox to the router. On the static connection, I even put a DMZ on it, but to no avail.

I have wireless 25mb internet in my house but the router is not in my room it is about 25 meters away in my parents room. I experience latency with my current set up while gaming online so I have decided to switch to wired. What is my best option for doing so? Running a wire through from the router to my room would be possible but I need to know if the length will effect performance and what type of Ethernet cable I would need (including estimated price). The other option is to move the router from that room to mine but im not familiar with how this would be done and what the costs would be
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to a new computer, it runs beautifully as expected however I encounter this problem with gaming. Whenever I hop in a game such as Dead Island, Arma 2 : CO (Day Z), Stalker : CoP, even Skyrim ( with SKSE, standard it ran okay. ) my connection will drop for my entire local network. I can still connect to my router, and it shows that I disconnect and reconnect with a new IP, from the logs it seems to be unprovoked. A few games will operate normally, however with Stalker, I play completely offline, and my connection still drops. It's not an instant disconnect, and it generally varies in time. However, when I'm not gaming, I get a steady connection with no issues, I get advertised speeds and can stream videos, and download perfectly fine. I've tried a USB wireless adapter to cross my motherboard off the list, and it encountered the same issue. But this problem just started occurring when I got the new computer.

CAT5E and CAT 6 Cables... Would having two types in the same connection make the connection weird?I just want to really make my connection overall sufficient for gaming.. I don't want to worry about lag coming from client side at all.
1. I lose connection a lot, and I doubt it's on Time Warner's end cause I have called them multiple times about this..
2. I have to power cycle a lot with this router.
3. The Time Warner Cable people came out and put in new cable lines and connectors, so I doubt it's the cable lines.
4. No I don't suck at gaming, I am a pro E-sports athlete so I am very good I am just concerned about client side network lag, cause even on perfect registration servers from Eoreality that have a dedicated server boxes, I still get updated a lot... I have times where I shoot and I get the kill, and other where I know I should have gotten them?
