Is Wireless Gaming Adapter The Same As A Network Bridge
Nov 29, 2011
is this type of device TEW-647GA Wireless Gaming Adapter the same as a network bridge? If so, why don't they call it a network bridge, which is a more general purpose device and appeal to more buyers?If not, what is it about this gaming adapter that makes it better than a network bridge for connecting to xbox, tivo, etc?

I've recently upgraded my computer from a XP machine to a Win7 machine. Back in the old days of my XP machine I would almost only use it to play a Battlefield 2 mod called Project Reality.When I first purchased the wirelsess USB adapter I had a problem with the game losing connection for a little while every 30 second, which of course was extremely annoying. I later solved this problem by disabling Windows Zero Wireless.
But if I turn off WLAN autoconfig in Windows 7 I'm not able to connect to my WIFI at all. It turns off my third party wireless software as well?By the way my USB adapater is a D-link 160 and my router is a D-link 615 (Maybe... I'm at work so it's just out of my memory)

My router/modem is at one corner of the house and my computer is supposed to go in the other corner of the house. I am looking to play Battlefield 3, CS:GO, CoD:4, DayZ, and some other online games that require good connection to even do decent. I am going to be downloading different things and uploading videos to YouTube. I need a VERY FAST WiFi adapter that is comparable to wired connection, and remember, my computer will be all the way across the house.

I've tried so many settings I cant even remember where i left off but one general question, troubleshoot to the next step with the wga54g; sometimes the connection shows 'acquring address' but never connects. I've fiddled with things so that i can get the GA to acquire an address but the internet comes through. Also the GA never shows up on the client table. So is the fact that i can get a network address a good thing or doesn't that necessarily mean i'm 'connected' to the network. Its frustrating to have the G light lite up yet no connection also at one point I did get the GA to show up in the client table when it was directly connected to the linksys 1200 but when i walked into the room and attached it to the PC, no dice I've turned off all firewalls temporarily and the 1200 is set on wpa/wp2 mixed. when i tried setting it just to wpa i got a warning then I lost my internet. I had to reinstall the 1200 again.

As the title says I'm having really annoying 3 second disconnects every 3 minutes or so. I don't notice this when I'm browsing, just when I'm gaming. I realize that wireless and gaming don't mix but it's my only option at this point. What I'm looking for is a steady connection so I don't keep lagging out. I usually don't lag out from the server but it will say "There is a problem with your connection" for a second than resume as it takes a few more seconds to fully recover. The router in which its connected to is a room away though I live in an apartment so I'm not sure if that's part of the problem. The receiver I'm using is a dlink DWA-160.

• A long range Wireless adapter, PCI or PCIe
• A wireless bridge with long range

I am currently playing Football manager 2011 with a friend via a network game. The game will work perfectly if I connect my Laptop to the modem directly and bypass the Wireless. However if I try to play the game while connected to the wireless then my friend is unable to connect to the game. This is becoming an issue as for me to be able to play the game I have to turn the wireless off which is getting on the nerves of other family members

I've tried up-dating the driver files form the C: drive(Window) and also from the net but with no joy.. Network adapter is a Realtek RTL 8187B. I hate admitting defeat as Im sure the solution is probably something simple..

A little background on me: I do performance testing for a large corporation, so networking is like an old hat for me - but this has me spinning because it makes no logical sense to me.Here's the layout of my home network:CableModem(passthrough) -> WRT120N -> ENH200 (Access point) -> ENH200 (Client Bridge) -> Netgear N600Both the WRT120N and the Netgear N600 are providing wireless access to clients at both locations. N600 is set not to route or DHCP, and the WAN port isn't used.Initially the WRT120N wasn't in play because the cable modem was serving DHCP, but it wouldn't successfully send DHCP to most clients on the other side of the client bridge. So I installed the WRT120N (old, I know) and it was able to serve up DHCP to any and all systems... for a while. Now DHCP doesn't appear to be working fully again on the Netgear side of the bridge. One device registers in the WRT120N, the client list shows the mac as getting assigned an ID, but the device never actually pulls the address. Static works fine. Those that already have DHCP addresses work like a charm, so I know the link is stable. pingtest.net reports near perfection.

I want to setup a Linksys EA4500 in bridge mode behind my separate firewall to access the domain LAN. I'd also like to supply a wireless guest network for clients. In bridge mode the EA4500 doesn't seem to offer a separate guest network. Is there any solution other than adding another Wireless router just to serve up the Wireless Guest Network?

We are connecting a cisco router (819) to wireless lan network (lwapp) through its wireless interface.
clients ---> 819 ---->AP (WGB) ------ lwapp ----- AP ---> LAN ---> servers.
since the clients are on the same subnet as the the VLAN on the lwapp, everything works great.When we add a new L3 VLAN on the 819 router, and we try to ping the clients from the servers, the packets can reach the clients but never received by the servers back. it seems like the bridge is dropping the packets when they go back from the client to the servers.when we use a GRE tunnel from the 819 to the LAN, everything works great.

I have a router that is capable of wireless N at 5.0GHz but can't run simultaneous with it's 2.4GHz band a/b/g (Cisco Linksys E2000), so I have a second router acting as gateway for my b/g devices (and a few wired only that are nearer to it). They are connected LAN port to LAN port with 50ft of cat6 and the DHCP server running on only one router. I know this is pretty standard for multiple access points, and it works very well. But I'm moving, and in the new house, the internet access will be on one floor with the wireless N router, and the other router will need to be in the basement on the opposite end of the house, and running networking cable through the floor and walls is just too much trouble. My question is, can I replace the previous wired method with a wireless N bridge attached to the LAN port of the router in the basement and have it function in the same way as it did when it was wired, with only the DHCP server running on the wireless N router, and all devices attached to either router able to see each other? I would assume so, but I would like to know from anyone who has experience with it before I go buying the bridge.

I have a small home network, in which the DSL modem is some way away from the room in which I do my work. Currently, I use a pair of WAP54G access points to bridge between the two locations, and everything works OK, if slowly.Today, I bought a WRT320N router and a WET610N bridge to replace the access points, but I having a real problem configuring them to work. I think the basic problem is with the IP addresses that they use. The current configuration is:
DSL Modem -> Access Point -- several yards -- Access Point -> PC
and I want to go to:
DSL Modem -> WRT320N -- several yards -- WET610N -> PC
I guess my basic question is this a reasonable idea or should I be using something different for the WRT320N end? I don't want to change the basic IP address subnet (192.168.1.*) and I want to keep the DSL modem as the default gateway (192.168.1.254). When I installed the WRT320, it assigned itself an IP address of 192.168.0.1 and the WET610N an IP address of 192.168.0.101, and I think the DSL modem also assigned the WRT320 an IP address of 192.168.1.99, so I am a little confused as to which IP addresses I should be setting where.
